    One of the things I like about Microsoft's RDC Client is that the resolution of the experience is set by the client and not, say, a physical monitor connected to the host, as is the case with VNC; the latter being the protocol used by Mac. This means that even though I'm connecting to a notebook with a 1280x800 physical resolution, via RDC I can run it at 2560x1600 on my 30" monitor. However, that only seems to work for RDC. Does anyone know of something I can run on the Mac that will allow me to remotely control it at a different resolution than what is physically set? TIA, Mark

  • Mac OS X: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM

    I am trying to use the new LiveConnect features introduced in Java 6 Update 10. Code looks like this (copied from the applet tutorial): Class<?> c = Class.forName("com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM"); Method m = c.getMethod("getDocument", java.applet.Applet.class); Document document = (Document) m.invoke(null, this); But all I am getting is a ClassNotFoundException for the entry-point class. This on the Mac, 10.6, with both Firefox and Safari. Java Plug-in 1.6.0_22 Using JRE version 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM Is this not implemented on the Mac? Or do I need to configure something? All I need to do is get and set the value of form elements on the page, so I would be fine with an older (pre-6u10) API if that works better.

  • Suggestions for VS+Resharper keyboard shortcuts on a Mac

    I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro as my development machine but still primarily develop .Net applications with Visual Studio and Resharper (via VMWare Fusion). By far, the biggest obstacle I'm running into is getting used to the keyboard layout change (ex. not being able to do ALT-Insert). Do any of you Windows-on-Mac veterans have any suggestions on how to ease the pain of transitioning (without moving to an external keyboard)? Are you changing mappings via VMWare's keyboard preferences? Or are you using something like AutoHotkey? Any other windows development tips for a Mac newb?

    I created a subversion repository, imported an empty structure, checked out the repo, added a file to the working copy and tried commiting the working copy with the following commands: svnadmin create mysvn svn import -m "initial empty structure" test/ file:///tmp/mysvn svn co file:///tmp/mysvn mywc svn ci -m "test" The commit failed with the following error: Transmitting file data .svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: While preparing '/tmp/mywc' for commit svn: no such table: rep_cache I am running Mac OS X 10.6.3 and subversion 1.6.5. Did I miss any steps or Mac specific commands? Thanks for your help.

    Hello I've been a Rails developer on Windows for quite some time now, but I recently completed my biggest project yet (it's quite extensive, took me over a year to build) but I am having trouble deploying it. The combination of it's size, complexity and a windows environment is making it needlessly complex to deploy. I am thinking about getting an old mac mini and using it just for rails development. Is there any way I can port my app to this mac, without having to start over? I can't find any resources on the internets about this.

  • Can I install Whizzy for Emacs on a Mac (is Mac OS X a unix environment)?

    I think my question is pretty stupid, but here it goes: I am using Aquamacs, and I want to install the Whizzy mode. The website for Whizzy says that "it is designed for Unix platforms". I read that Mac OS X is unix certified, but does that mean I can install Whizzy on my mac? If yes, can I install and use it with Aquamacs or do I have to use the Emacs running from the terminal? PS: I don't know whether this question should be posted here or on SuperUser, but as Emacs users seem to hang out here more often, this is the place I chose.

  • WebGL on older Mac OS X versions (say 10.4)

    Not really a programming related question but... I'd like very much to experiment with WebGL on my spare time. My current 'spare time' machine is a MacBook running Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.xx) and I'm unable to find a new browser supporting this OS. Firefox dropped support, Chrome too, and Safari idem. I read somewhere that this is due to a Quicktime bug that Apple won't fix. Does anyone have more information on this issue ? Does anyone have a clue or track to find a running implementation of WebGL on Mac OS X 10.4 ? Cheers,

  • PHP Frameworks: Codeigniter vs. Yii vs. Custom?

    Hi everybody, I have used codeigniter for a some years now. Why I chosed to work with codeigniter back then? Pretty much for the extensive documentation that were available and the big user community. It made me as a totally newbie to the MVC pattern able to get a site up and running really fast. I think what is priorited from my side is that the framework doesn't affect performance too much, which Codeigniter seems to be pretty good at (when compared to other frameworks out there) and Yii, an even better option. Since the time has gone from when I started out with codeigniter, the project sizes have also increased and thereby the demand of the framework and it's footprint on the code. I have thought a few times about writing a whole new MVC framework to do only the thing's I want it to do, but it feels like reinventing the wheel and I cannot yet justify it. I am not sure whether or not it's a good solution to build a site that have the potential to become really big on either Yii or Codeigniter. I have tried to find as much as possible documentation about this comparision/issue online before posting here, but have found very few real-life arguments and stories from people that have shifted between the two PHP frameworks or have been in the same situation as me. So - what's your thoughts about Codeigniter vs. Yii vs. going custom?   • My framework will utilise other frameworks, but I'd like this to be transparent to the end-user

    I'm building a framework, which aims to provide a new development environment for the user, but I need to use things like RegexKit and almost certainly some other established frameworks in order to do this. Any functionality exposed from such frameworks would be abstracted through classes and methods in my own framework for maintenance reasons (allowing me to change my mind on which dependencies I want). In an ideal world I just want to ship a single .framework. However I'm aware that unlike with standard bundles and applications it is not possibile to embed a framework inside the framework bundle. Do I have any other option other than to tell the end user that they must also install RegexKit and any other dependencies? I have a feeling this lessens the appeal value of the easy to use embedded framework I'd envisaged building. Right now I'm feeling like I have some limited options: Force the user to install the dependencies. Write my own classes that provide the same functionality -- ugh! If at all possible, try to statically link the third party frameworks (is this possible??) My end-product is ideally a single .framework bundle that uses @rpath and so can be installed in the system or simply bundled with the app that uses it.
