  • Java OutOfMemoryError message changes when trying to create Arrays of different sizes

    In the question by DKSRathore How to simulate the Out Of memory : Requested array size exceeds VM limit some odd behavior was noted when creating an arrays. When creating an array of size Integer.MAX_VALUE an exception with the error java.lang.OutOfMemoryError Requested array size exceeds VM limit was thrown. However when an array was created with a size less than the max but still above the virtual machine memory limit the error message read java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space. Testing further I managed to narrow down where the error messages changes. long[] l = new long[2147483645]; exceptions message reads - Requested array size exceeds VM limit long[] l = new long[2147483644]; exceptions message reads - Java heap space errors I increased my virtual machine memory and still produced the same result. Has anyone any idea why this happens? Some extra info: Integer.MAX_VALUE = 2147483647.     I use MS Outlook as email client. When I receive email from certain email addresses(sender within my company/domain itself), and I use the reply button option to reply it, all the menus like - Font type, Font size, Text color, Bold, Italics, Text indentation, Bullets, numbering, are disabled. It doesn't allow me to use any of the above features. This happens only for some email id's where I receive mail from. Not all. Then when I checked in the message properties, it was Plain Text , rather than HTML. But shouldn't outlook allow me the formatting of the messages I reply/compose based on My settings which are HTML? How can I enable to have Rich text formatting enabled while I reply to a text mail?

    I am looking at my server's spamassasin and have stumbled across the "problem" that my outgoing email sends out its own X-Report and X-Score in the header (programs used are Outlook 2007 as client and exim4 with the vexim plugin and Spamassasin). On the one hand I want to get rid of the sent X-Report which gets sent out with every email and on the other hand I still want to have it for incoming mails. While I was trying to fix this (which I still haven't) I stumbled across this "error" which makes my email less trustworthy: 1.4 MSGID_MULTIPLE_AT Message-ID contains multiple '@' characters How do I get rid of the multiple '@' characters?

  • Using Session Bean provided data on JSF welcome page

    I use JSF managed beans calling EJB methods that are provide data from database. I want to use some data already on the welcome page of the application. What is the best solution for it? EJBs are injected into JSF managed beans and it looks like the injection is done after executing the constructor. So I am not able to call EJB methods in the constructor. The normal place for EJB call is in the JSF action methods but how to call such a method prior to loding the first page of the application? A possible solution would be to call the EJB method conditionally in a getter that is used on the welcome page, for example: public List getProductList(){ if (this.productList == null) this.productList = myEJB.getProductList(); return this.productList; } Is there any better solution? For example, in some config file?

  • Java constructor with large arguments or Java bean getter/setter approach

    Hi, I can't decide which approach is better for creating objects with a large number of fields (10+) (all mandatory) the constructor approach of the getter/setter. Constructor at least you enforce that all the fields are set. Java Beans easier to see which variables are being set instead of a huge list. The builder pattern DOES NOT seem suitable here as all the fields are mandatory and the builder requires you put all mandatory parameters in the builder constructor. Thanks, D

    Hi, I am working on a page which mainly consists of Charts and Grids. Thought that Flex would be the best fit with some cool effects. But however, I now feel that ExtJs grid looks better than Flex data grid. My question is whether there is any possibility / mechanism to embed Ext JS grid into a Flex page. Lets say my main page has a Flex tab panel. In first tab, I would like to see 'Flex Chart' and in second tab I would want to see 'ExtJS grid'. I would also want to know of any Flex Data grid plugin (if exists), which looks/works just like Ext Js grid. Thanks & Regards Shafi

I have to imagine that someone out there has written a framework I can use to simplify the creation of these kind of simple GUIs. Doing a quick google, the following look like the key players in .net: ASP.Net dynamic data framework SubSonic NakedObjects for .net Has anyone worked with any of these and have any preferences? More importantly, are there other frameworks that would be good to evaluate in this space?

  • Outlook new message size nearly 1mb

    I've been using Outlook 2010 for several weeks with no issues. Suddently, a few days ago, the size of my outgoing messages got huge. Looking at thsi it appeas that a huge CSS style is beign created with around 14,000 definition for list items, making the message almost 1mb before I even typed in one word. Emails before that point were very small. Needless to say I can't remember changing anything, nor can anyone around here provide any possible explanation... Any ideas?

    I have this line in my .vimrc, which means "when I save a .rb file, run it through ruby -c" (the ruby interpreter's error checking). autocmd BufWritePost *.rb !ruby -c <afile> When I save that file, I always see output at the bottom of the screen, so I get used to it and start ignoring it. What I want is to only see output if there are errors. I can see that when there are errors, after it says what they are, at the bottom, it says "shell returned 1." How can I modify this line so that it only shows a message if the shell returns 1? Is there a way to conditionally surpress output from a shell command run in vim?

  • Distributed Message Ordering

    I have an architectural question on handling message ordering. For purposes of this question, the transport is irrelevant, so I'm not going to specify one. Say we have three systems, a website, a CRM and an ERP. For this example, the ERP will be the "master" system in terms of data ownership. The website and the CRM can both send a new customer message to the ERP system. The ERP system then adds a customer and publishes the customer with the newly assigned account number so that the website and CRM can add the account number to their local customer records. This is a pretty straight forward process. Next we move on to placing orders. The account number is required in order for the CRM or website to place an order with the ERP system. However the CRM will permit the user to place an order even if the customer lacks an account number. (For this example assume we can't modify the CRM behavior) This creates the possibility that a user could create a new customer, and place an order before the account number gets updated in the CRM. What is the best way to handle this scenario? Would it be best to send the order message sans account number and let it go to an error queue? Would it be better to have the CRM endpoint hold the message and wait until the account number is updated in the CRM? Maybe something completely different that I haven't thought of? E.g. the URL of the page the portlet resides in is http://example.com/mygroup/mypage?foo=bar Is it possible to read the "foo" parameter from a portlet that is on that page? Portlet Container is Liferay 6.0.5. P.S. I have already tried: com.liferay.portal.util.PortalUtil.getOriginalServletRequest(com.liferay.portal.util.PortalUtil.getHttpServletRequest((javax.portlet.PortletRequest) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequest())).getParameter("foo") but I always get null for productId Thanks!

  • jQuery-driven app. won't work without alert()

    I have seen a lot of articles on this, but none dealing with jQuery, so here I go... I am implementing a version of a script from http://javascript-array.com/scripts/jquery_simple_drop_down_menu/ into an existing application; however, I cannot get it to work without adding alert('msg...') as the first method within the $(document).ready() call. This has nothing to do with load time... no matter how long I wait, the menu does not work.     I am using IIS as a webserver on my development machine for PHP webdevelopment. Or at least, I am trying to. When there is a syntax error in a PHP script and I open that file in my webbrowser, I just get an 503 "internal server error" and the default IIS error page for this error. Some browsers dont open that file at all, possibly because of the 503 HTTP Response Header. I would like IIS to act in that case just like the apache webserver: display the PHP file with the error anyway, so that the error message gets printed out. How can this be done? EDIT: PHP settings: display_errors is on and error_reporting is set to E_ALL

  • NSFetchedResultsController not processing certain section driven moves

    I utilize a NSFetchedResultsController (frc) with a Core Data store. I implement all the frc delegate methods. The table is sporadically updated by background threads. All the inserts, deletes and updates work fine, with the exception that updates to the frc's index key for rows toward to the bottom of the table (50 rows), do not result in a section move. e.g. if "name" is the index key and the name "Victor" is changed to "Alex", the victor row now shows the name Alex, but is not moved to the top of the table alongside all other names starting with A. As I noted, this is only for rows towards the bottom of the table. If a row like "Andy" is changed to "Ben", the move is indeed processed correctly by the frc. Any suggestions to fix this would be appreciated. I do not use a frc cache. Thanks

  • JSF Open new window and display bean data

    I am running JSF 2.0 and the latest version of Primefaces 2.2RC1 I believe. I am trying to create a printer friendly window. When the user clicks on a p:commandLink I want a new window to open and display a xhtml file I have named printView.xhtml. Now I can get the window working fine using JavaScript window.open but when I open the new window it will not render any values it just displays everything as #{myBean.value}. Does anyone know how to properly open a window and extend the current scope of the application into that window so I can call all of my managed beans properly and display the values etc. etc.

The RegHandler just uses the name field to refer to the value in the form. Any Idea how I could access the select box's value?

  • PHP driven site needs password change.

    I have inherited a website that needs the password changed that accesses the database. I can see that there are two tables within the database but neither of them have username or password info. The previous web guy moved out of the country and can't be reached. I am not up-to-speed enough to figure this out. I have gone through all the files to try and find the answer but can't get it. It's hosted by goDaddy.com and I have changed the passwords there but it didn't change this login info. www.executivehomerents.com/cpanel <-this brings up the prompt for the username & password which I won't give out but the page only gives you 5 choices and none of them deal with changing the password.
