  Given, when a user requests /foo on my server, I send the following HTTP response (not closing the connection): Content-Type: multipart/x-mixed-replace; boundary=----------------------- ----------------------- Content-Type: text/html <a href="/bar">foo</a> When the user clicks on foo (which will send 204 No Content so the view doesn't change), I want to send the following data in the initial response. ----------------------- Content-Type: text/html bar How would could I get the second request to trigger this from the initial response? I'm planning on possibly creating a fancy [engines that support multipart/x-mixed-replace (currently only Gecko)]-only email webapp that does server-push and Ajax effects without any JavaScript, just for fun.

• Locking NFS files in PHP

  Part of my latest webapp needs to write to file a fair amount as part of its logging. One problem I've noticed is that if there are a few concurrent users, the writes can overwrite each other (instead of appending to file). I assume this is because of the destination file can be open in a number of places at the same time. flock(...) is usually superb but it doesn't appear to work on NFS... Which is a huge problem for me as the production server uses a NFS array. The closest thing I've seen to an actual solution involves trying to create a lock dir and waiting until it can be created. To say this lacks elegance is understatement of the year, possibly decade. Any better ideas? Edit: I should add that I don't have root on the server and doing the storage in another way isn't really feasible any time soon, not least within my deadline.

• Is it possible to cache JSP bytecode to avoid recompiles w/ Tomcat?

  Hi, Is there any way of caching the bytecode for JSP webapps/ In particular, using Tomcat as the Java servlet? I'm getting really fed up of Tomcat taking up all the CPU for 10 minutes while it compiles 4 different webapps every time I restart it.... I'm already using Jikes to "speed up" the compiles, but it's really killing me. The code does not change unless the webapp is upgraded (very rarely), and I cannot believe that there is no way to cache the compiled java bytecode instead of recompiling it each and every time. I'd appreciate any advice on the matter!

• [Gdata] GetAuthSubToken returns None

  Hey guys, I am a little lost on how to get the auth token. Here is the code I am using on the return from authorizing my app: client = gdata.service.GDataService() gdata.alt.appengine.run_on_appengine(client) sessionToken = gdata.auth.extract_auth_sub_token_from_url(self.request.uri) client.UpgradeToSessionToken(sessionToken) logging.info(client.GetAuthSubToken()) what gets logged is "None" so that does seem right :-( if I use this: temp = client.upgrade_to_session_token(sessionToken) logging.info(dump(temp)) I get this: {'scopes': ['http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/'], 'auth_header': 'AuthSub token=CNKe7drpFRDzp8uVARjD-s-wAg'} so I can see that I am getting a AuthSub Token and I guess I could just parse that and grab the token but that doesn't seem like the way things should work. • Cloning just a particular directory with hg?

  I come from a Subversion background, but I am slowly migrating to Mercurial. When starting on many of my projects, I would setup a development environment that was configured to a particular starting point in developing an app/webapp/program (much like a Maven 2 archetype, but not necessarily Java/Maven). Later I would checkout this archetype/template project out of my svn repo by its particular path; and than export the working copy from version control by the repository; so that I could import the working copy back in to another repository without adding the changes that I made to the working copy to the base the template/archetype project. I've tried doing the same thing in Mercurial, and I've run into a wall since I can't check out, er..um..no, clone a specific path from the hg repository. If I want to achieve the same sort of functionality using Mecurial, what should I do? Use tagged branches? The archetypes/template projects are very different, but I'd like to keep them in the same repository.

  Hi All, I need to open an internal web browser from a custom eclipse wizard I have created - and so I am using IWebBrowser webBrowser = browser.createBrowser (IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.LOCATION_BAR | IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.AS_EDITOR | IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.NAVIGATION_BAR | IWorkbenchBrowserSupport.STATUS, null,"TestBrowser", "TestBrowser"); URL url = new URL("http://localhost:8080/app"); webBrowser.openURL(url); Now the problem is - the openURL needs time to complete as it tries to load a page for a webapp and as I am not able to get the progress of the 'load page' operation of the URL - my wizard progressmonitor completes before the URL can be completely loaded . Is there any way to get the status of the page load operation - (to check if its complete or it failed) or add a listener to indicate completion of page load? It is okay for me to use some other implementations of internal web browsers - so please suggest some other approach we cannot add a listener to IWebBrowser.. Thanks for ur help !!

• Maven copy project output into other project resources

  There are two projects: 1) applet project that outputs jar file 2) web app project that should host the jar file. After (1) finished building, the applet jar file should be copied into the webapp folder of (2). The purpose is that (2) will host the applet (1) on the Internet. A lot of examples explain how to use another project as a library dependency. Other examples, show how to use ant plugin to copy files. I am unsure on how to properly set this up, so that 'mvn install' on the parent project will do the copying at the right time.

• Maven Release Plugin with JAXB issues

  Hiya, We've got a project set up to use the Maven Release Plugin which includes a phase that unpacks a JAR of XML schemas pulled from Artifactory and a phase that generates XJC classes. We're on maven release 2.2.1. Unfortunately the latter phase is executing before the former which means that it isn't generating the XJC classes for the schema.   Is there a way to find out how much memory is being used by a web page, or by my jquery application? Here's my situation: I'm building a data heavy webapp using a jquery frontend and a restful backend that serves data in JSON. The page is loaded once, and then everything happens via ajax. The UI provides users with a way to create multiple tabs within the UI, and each tab can contain lots and lots of data. I'm considering limiting the number of tabs they can create, but was thinking it would be nice to only limit them once memory usage has gone above a certain threshold.

• XML format for blogs and/or CMS

  I'm writing my own blog/CMS engine (using WebApp and Google App Engine), and I'm looking for a light-weight XML format to use for content storage. Is there some already existing format that could be used for this purposes? Maybe some subset of the DocBook or ePub format? I had a look at those and they seem to be a little of overkill for what I want to do. Then again WXR (Wordpress eXtended RSS) or the one from Pluxml (pluxml.org) might be suited as well. Any ideas?

• http/html/ajax: show result before site is completely processed

  hi! I am looking for a way to show in a webapp in front of a task a wait-message and after it hide the message. The task is running a longer time. I dont know if it is possible at all. The problem is, so far I can see, that the site will be returned to the users browser AFTER the task is completed because the task is part of the site as a inline code replaces by the webserver interpreter (no matter if php, perl or whatever). The only solution I can imagine is to parallel the task with threads or processes and requery the state with ajax in the website. Any idea to do it less complex? Thanks for help! regards chris

• best way to statistically detect anomalies in data

  Hi, our webapp collects huge amount of data about user actions, network business, database load, etc etc etc All data is stored in warehouses and we have quite a lot of interesting views on this data. if something odd happens chances are, it shows up somewhere in the data. However, to manually detect if something out of the ordinary is going on, one has to continually look through this data, and look for oddities. My question: what is the best way to detect changes in dynamic data which can be seen as 'out of the ordinary'. Are bayesan filters (I've seen these mentioned when reading about spam detection) the way to go? Any pointers would be great! EDIT: To clarify the data for example shows a daily curve of database load. This curve typically looks similar to the curve from yesterday In time this curve might change slowly. It would be nice that if the curve from day to day changes say within some perimeters, a warning could go off. R

• Whats wrong with this task queue setup?

  I've setup this task queue implementation on a site I host for a customer, it has a cron job which runs each morning at 2am "/admin/tasks/queue", this queues up emails to be sent out, "/admin/tasks/email", and uses cursors so as to do the queuing in small chunks. For some reason last night /admin/tasks/queue kept getting run by this code and so sent out my whole quota of emails :/.   Hello everyone, I am just switching from Ant to Maven and am trying to figure out the best practice to set up a EAR file based Enterprise project? Lets say I want to create a pretty standard project with a jar file for the EJBs, a WAR file for the Web tier and the encapsulating EAR file, with the corresponding deployment descriptors. How would I go about it? Create the project with archetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-webapp liek a war file and extend from there? What is the best project structure (and POM file example) for this? Where do you stick the ear file related deployment descriptors, etc? Thanks for any help.

  Hey guys, For our webapp testing environment we're currently using watin with a bunch of unit tests, and we're looking to move to selenium and use more frameworks. We're currently looking at Selenium2 + Gallio + Xunit.net, However one of the things we're really looking to get around is compiled testcases. Ideally we want testcases that can be edited in VS with intellisense, but don't require re-compilling the assembly every single time we make a small change, Are there any frameworks likely to help with this issue? Are there any nice UI tools to help manage massive ammount of testcases? Ideally we want the testcase writing process to be simple so that more testers can aid in writing them. cheers

The problem we're left with is the following: the flash API is streaming the content of the video to a webpage, this page saves the photo as a jpg.   Every time I start working on a new J2EE web application, I need to create the various Eclipse projects that I'll fill up. This includes the top-level project that generates the EAR, a WAR project, etc. I usually only have to do this every couple of months, so I never remember the exact steps - specifically, which Eclipse Project Wizards to use for each project in the webapp. I have enough old J2EE projects laying around that they could serve as good reference if only I could actually see which Wizard created them. Is there a way to recover this information?

• Tap, Pan for a map & fixed headers - event conflict

  I'm currently developing a small WebApp that makes use of Google Maps (front-end uses jquery-ui-maps) jQuery Mobile with a fixed header & footer Now I encountered a conflict that appears on touch enabled devices as well as on desktop/mouse controlled "click" events: When I "tap" or "click" the map to actually "pan" it, then my header/footer toggles it's visibility. As I want to keep the toggle behaviour, I can't simply deactivate it, but showing/hiding the header/footer on every "pan" of the map is odd. After thinking some time about it, I think I got a concept that should work: Question: How I can I add a delay to the visibility toggle for the header/footer? So when I don't release the finger/mouse after XYms, the header/footer doesn't show/hide? • Update Nexus repository with local artifacts

  Hi, i recently downloaded some maven artifacts directly to my local repository (.m2/repository). Now i installed the Nexus Repository Manager and need to fill its storage without to download all the artifacts again. Is there a way to update the Nexus repository with the local one. I don't want to simply copy them because Nexus separate artifacts concerning their public servers (central, codehaus, etc.) and the local repository structure doesn't. Update: Meanwhile i copied the the artifacts from the local repository to the Nexus storage (public repository). I can browse to the artifacts via the Nexus webapp, but Maven somehow can't resolve the artifacts from Nexus. Do i need to register them particularly? I re-indexed the public repository and restarted Nexus multiple times - no changes.
