• Help to resolve 'Out of memory' exception when calling DrawImage

  Hi guys, About one percent of our users experience sudden crash while using our application. The logs show below exception, the only thing in common that I've seen so far is that, they all have XP SP3. • Does GetSystemInfo (on Windows) always return the number of logical processors?

  Reading up on this, and specifically reading the Microsoft docs, it looks like it should be returning the number of PHYSICAL processors, and that you should use GetLogicalProcessorInformation to figure out how many LOGICAL processors you have. Here's the doc I found on the SYSTEM_INFO structure: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms724958(v=VS.85).aspx And here's the doc on GetLogicalProcessorInformation: (spaces added to get through spam filter) http:// msdn.microsoft.com/ en-us/ library/ ms683194.aspx Reading up on it further though, in most of the discussions I've found on this topic, developers say to that GetSystemInfo (and the SYSTEM_INFO structure) report the number of LOGICAL processors. When I search again, I find that MS did release some info on this (and a hot fix), here (spaces added to get through spam filter): http:// support. microsoft.com/ kb/936235 Reading that, it sounds like on Xp, pre-service Pack 3, GetSystemInfo reports the number of LOGICAL processors in the SYSTEM_INFO structure. It also reads to me that on Windows Vista and Windows 7, GetSystemInfo should be reporting the number of PHYSICAL processors (different to Windows XP pre-service Pack 3). Does anyone know what it actually does? Does GetSystemInfo really report the number of physical processors (on the same computer) differently, depending on which OS it's running on?

• Problem with setVisible (true)

  The two examples shown below are same. Both are supposed to produce same result e.g. generate the coordinates of images displayed on JPanel. Example 1, works perfectly (print the coordinates of images), however example 2 returning 0 for the coordinate. I was wondering why because, I have put the setvisible (true) after adding the panel, in both examples. • Object-oriented GUI development in python

  Hey guys, new programmer here. I have an assignment for class and I'm stuck... What I need to do is a create a GUI that gives someone a basic arithmetic problem in one box, asks the person to answer it, evaluates it, and tells you if you're right or wrong... When I run this code, I just get a blank Label. Why is that? How can I put a something like "7+7" into the box? • C++ std::stringstream seemingly causes thread to hang or die under SunOS

  I have an application developed under Linux with GCC 4.2 which makes quite heacy use of stringstreams to wrap and unwrap data being sent over the wire. (Because the Grid API I'm using demands it). Under Linux everything is fine but when I deploy to SunOS (v5.10 running SPARC) and compile with GCC 3.4.6 the app hangs when it reaches the point at which stringstreams are used. In more detail: The main thread accepts requests from clients and starts a new pthread to handle each request. The child thread uses stringstreams to pack data. When the child thread gets to that point it seems to hang for a second and then die. The main thread is unaffected. Are there any known issues with stringstream and GCC 3.4.6 or SunOS or SPARCs? I didn't find anything yet... Can anyone suggest a better way to pack and unpack large amounts of data a strings or byte streams? Apologies for not posting code but this to me seems more involved than a simple syntax error. All the same, the thread crashes: std::stringstream mystringstream; //not here mystringstream << "some data: "; //but here That is, I can declare the stringstream but when I try to use it something goes wrong.

• Using hashing to group similar records

  I work for a fulfillment company and we have to pack and ship many orders from our warehouse to customers. To improve efficiency we would like to group identical orders and pack these in the most optimum way. By identical I mean having the same number of order lines containing the same SKUs and same order quantities. To achieve this I was thinking about hashing each order. We can then group by hash to quickly see which orders are the same. We are moving from an Access database to a PostgreSQL database and we have .NET based systems for data loading and general order processing systems, so we can either do the hashing during the data loading or hand this task over to the DB. My question firstly is should the hashing be managed by DB, possibly using triggers, or should the hash be created on-the-fly using a view or something? And secondly would it be best to calculate a hash for each order line and then to combine these to find an order-level hash for grouping, or should I just use a trigger for all CRUD operations on the order lines table which re-calculates a single hash for the entire order and store the value in the orders table? • Is there a good way to copy a Gtk widget?

  Is there a way, using the Gtk library in C, to clone a Gtk button (for instance), and pack it somewhere else in the app. I know you can't pack the same widget twice. And that this code obviously wouldn't work, but shows what happens when I attempt a shallow copy of the button: GtkButton *a = g_object_new(GTK_TYPE_BUTTON, "label", "o_0", NULL); GtkButton *b = g_memdup(b, sizeof *b); gtk_box_pack_start_defaults(GTK_BOX(vbox), GTK_WIDGET(b)); There is surrounding code which creates a vbox and packs it in a window and runs gtk_main(). This will result in these hard to understand error messages: (main:6044): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_hide: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed (main:6044): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_realize: assertion `GTK_WIDGET_ANCHORED (widget) || GTK_IS_INVISIBLE (widget)' failed ** Gtk:ERROR:/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.18.3/gtk/gtkwidget.c:8431:gtk_widget_real_map: assertion failed: (GTK_WIDGET_REALIZED (widget)) Along the same lines, if I were to write my own GObject (not necessarily a Gtk widget), is there a good way to write a copy constructor. Im thinking it should be an interface with optional hooks and based mostly on the properties, handling the class's hierarchy in some way. I'd want to do this: GtkButton *b = copyable_copy(COPYABLE(a)); If GtkButton could use a theoretical copyable interface.

• Given a typical Rails 3 environment, why am I unable to execute any tests?

  I'm working on writing simple unit tests for a Rails 3 project, but I'm unable to actually execute any tests. Case in point, attempting to run the test auto-generated by Rails fails: require 'test_helper' class UserTest < ActiveSupport::TestCase # Replace this with your real tests. test "the truth" do assert true end end Results in the following error: <internal:lib/rubygems/custom_require>:29:in `require': no such file to load -- test_helper (LoadError) from <internal:lib/rubygems/custom_require>:29:in `require' from user_test.rb:1:in `<main>' Commenting out the require 'test_helper' line and attempting to run the test results in this error: user_test.rb:3:in `<main>': uninitialized constant Object::ActiveSupport (NameError) The action pack gems appear to be properly installed and up to date: actionmailer (3.0.3, 2.3.5) actionpack (3.0.3, 2.3.5) activemodel (3.0.3) activerecord (3.0.3, 2.3.5) activeresource (3.0.3, 2.3.5) activesupport (3.0.3, 2.3.5) Ruby is at 1.9.2p0 and Rails is at 3.0.3. The sample dump of my test directory is as follows: /fixtures /functional /integration /performance /unit -- /helpers -- user_helper_test.rb -- user_test.rb test_helper.rb I've never seen this problem before - I've run the typical rake tasks for preparing the test environment. I have nothing out of the ordinary in my application or environment configuration files, nor have I installed any unusual gems that would interfere with the test environment. Edit Xavier Holt's suggestion, explicitly specifying the path to the test_helper worked; however, this revealed an issue with ActiveSupport. Now when I attempt to run the test, I receive the following error message (as also listed above): user_test.rb:3:in `<main>': uninitialized constant Object::ActiveSupport (NameError) But as you can see above, Action Pack is all installed and update to date.

• File Watcher Task

  The task will detect changes to existing files as well as new files, both actions will cause the file to be found when available. A file is available when the task can open it exclusively. This is important for files that take a long time to be written, such as large files, or those that are just written slowly or delivered via a slow network link. It can also be set to look for existing files first (1.2.4.55). The full path of the found file is returned in up to three ways: The ExecValueVariable of the task. This can be set to any String variable. The OutputVariableName when specified. This can be set to any String variable. The FullPath variable within OnFileFoundEvent. This is a File Watcher Task specific event.   Advanced warning of a file having been detected, but not yet available is returned through the OnFileWatcherEvent. This event does not always coincide with the completion of the task, as completion and the OnFileFoundEvent is delayed until the file is ready for use. This event indicates that a file has been detected, and that file will now be monitored until it becomes available. The task will only detect and report on the first file that is created or changes, any subsequent changes will be ignored. Task properties and there usages are documented below: Property Data Type Description Filter String Default filter *.* will watch all files. Standard windows wildcards and patterns can be used to restrict the files monitored. FindExistingFiles Boolean Indicates whether the task should check for any existing files that match the path and filter criteria, before starting the file watcher. IncludeSubdirectories Boolean Indicates whether changes in subdirectories are accepted or ignored. OutputVariableName String The name of the variable into which the full file path found will be written on completion of the task. The variable specified should be of type string. Path String Path to watch for new files or changes to existing files. The path is a directory, not a full filename. For a specific file, enter the file name in the Filter property and the directory in the Path property. PathInputType FileWatcherTask.InputType Three input types are supported for the path: Connection - File connection manager, of type existing folder. Direct Input - Type the path directly into the UI or set on the property as a literal string. Variable – The name of the variable which contains the path. Timeout Integer Time in minutes to wait for a file. If no files are detected within the timeout period the task will fail. The default value of 0 means infinite, and will not expire. TimeoutAsWarning Boolean The default behaviour is to raise an error and fail the task on timeout. This property allows you to suppress the error on timeout, a warning event is raised instead, and the task succeeds. The default value is false.   Installation The task is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. For 2005/2008 Only - Finally you will have to add the task to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Control Flow Items tab, and then check the File Watcher Task in the Choose Toolbox Items window. We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations.
