  Hi Everyone,Recently there has been some confusion regarding the need for partner-related candidates to meet the hands-on course requirement for tracks that require it. I thought it would be wise to clarify this point on the blog. A recurring question that we have been getting is:Question: Do partner candidates need to meet a hands-on course requirement?Answer: Yes. In order for a person to become certified they must meet the certification requirements for the track that they are pursuing (as listed on the Oracle certification web site). Regardless of candidate type - partner, customer, employee, etc. - all of the certification requirements for a track must be met. Beim Blick auf die Ereignisse des FY14 stehen natürlich Sie, unsere Partner, an allererster Stelle, denn Sie leisten einen ungeheuer wichtigen Beitrag zum Erfolg von Oracle. Dafür möchte ich Ihnen heute im Namen von Oracle A&C ganz herzlich danken! Von all den Events und Highlights im Partnerbereich war die Oracle Open World auch in FY14 schon allein quantitativ das Beeindruckendste: 60.000 Besucherinnen und Besucher aus 145 Ländern, 2.555 Sessions und 3.599 Speaker. Die angereisten Partner kamen in San Francisco zum Oracle PartnerNetwork Exchange zusammen. Dort tauschten sie sich über aktuelle Fragen zu Applications, Cloud, Engineered Systems, Big Data sowie Industry Solutions aus – Themen die uns auch in FY15 sicher bewegen werden! FY14 war bei Oracle auch das Jahr der Datenbank-Offensive: Auf der Open World wurde die neue In-Memory-Option für Datenbanken präsentiert, das Schlagwort Datenbank-Tuning machte die Runde. Als Meilenstein gilt vor allem die enorme Beschleunigung, die mit Version 12.1.0.1 der Oracle Database 12c möglich wird. Diese und weitere Innovationen sorgten für viel positives Presseecho. Im Januar 2014 kamen die Partner aus ganz Deutschland nach München zum Oracle Partner Day und zur Verleihung der Oracle Excellence Awards. Wie immer war unsere Blogredaktion natürlich live vor Ort. Zu den Höhepunkten des Partner Day zählte die Key Note zur Oracle Strategie von Helene Lengler, Vice President Sales Fusion Middleware & Engineered Systems. Spannend für die Partner war auch der Blick in die Zukunft mit Andreas Zilch (Experton): Industrie 4.0 lautete eines seiner zentralen Themen - also die Frage der Informatisierung der klassischen Industrien und damit natürlich auch das Internet of Things. Ich freue mich auf neue Herausforderungen im FY2015 und vor allem auf die anregende Zusammenarbeit mit Ihnen!   I'm taking a class where I work with a partner to implement the link layer of the OSI model. I've worked programmed with a partner once before and it went bad. Is the goal to divide the work up and decides who does what or should one person code and the other person reviews and switch roles after a while? Any tips are much appreciated. Literally I know nothing about working with a partner to program so even if it's basic please tell me.

• Demonstration Image BIC2G for Partners (OBI, Exalytics, BI-Apps, and EPM)

  There is now available the new version of the VirtualBox Demonstration Image, "BIC2g 2012-10" for Partners; including support for OBI, Exalytics, BI Applications, and EPM Hyperion applications. This is a demonstration, training and POV image that contains BI/Exalytics, BI Applications, and EPM product (software). It was originally developed to support internal Oracle Exalytics training, and has been expanded to include BI Applications. It is an OVA virtual appliance that can be imported into VirtualBox. Details can be found in the BIC2g Partner Edition Exalytics Readme and BIC2g Partner Edition Deployment Guide, and it can be downloaded from the Partner FTP site at /static/BIC2G (see BI Solutions Engineering Partner Portal for connection information and further detail on Demonstration Images for Partners).

• Rewriting a URL for tomcat through an ajp connection

  I've tried several attempts to resolve this, but all have come up naught. Currently I have apache setup to forward all urls at and past the /portal/ tag to tomcat. Unfortunately, tomcat receives these requests through /portal/appName, a subdirectory in webapps rather than the webapps root directory where my wars are deployed. Is there a simple solution to this that I'm not seeing? I've been trying to use mod_rewrite to ^/portal/ $ / but that doesn't yield the expected results (perhaps I'm doing this wrong?).

• How does one find out which application is associated with an indicator icon in Ubuntu 12.04?

  It is trivial to do this in Ubuntu 10.04. The question is specific to Ubuntu 12.04. This has nothing to do (does it?) with right click. How can an indicator's icon in Ubuntu 12.04 be matched with the program responsible for it's manifestation on the top panel? A list of running applications can include all processes using System Monitor. How is the correct matching process found for an indicator? (the examination of SM points out a rather poignant factor in the faster depletion and shortened run time on battery - the ambient quiescent CPU rate in 12.04 is now well over 20% when previously it was well under 10% in 10.04, between 5% and 7%!) (I have a problem with the battery indicator - it sometimes has % and other times hh:mm - it is necessary to know the ap. & v. to get more info on controlling same. ditto: There are issues with other indicator aps.) Details from: How can I find Application Indicator ID's? suggests looking at: file:///usr/share/indicator-application/ordering-override.keyfile [Ordering Index Overrides] nm-applet=1 gnome-power-manager=2 ibus=3 gst-keyboard-xkb=4 gsd-keyboard-xkb=5 which solves the battery identification, and presumably nm is NetworkManager for the rf icon, but the envelope, blue tooth and speaker indicator aps. are still a mystery. (Also, the ordering is not correlated.) Mind you, it was simple in the past to simply right click to get the About option to find the ap. & v. info. browsing around and about: file:///usr/share/indicator-application/ordering-override.keyfile examined: file:///usr/share/indicators file:///usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/ ... perhaps?/presumably? the information sought may be buried in file:///usr/share/indicators
