    I'm considering utilizing the ASP.NET Membership Provider for a few different web apps/tools with a single login approach. REQUIREMENTS User logs in to my.domain.com and sees a list of apps/tools that they have permission to use. The user selects the tool they'd like to use and clicks the link. When the tool opens, it is able to identify that they are currently logged in and who they are to identify any unique permissions to the application. I know that each app could simply point to the same back end Membership Provider DB, however will each app require a login or will it be able to identify if the user is already logged in?

  • Redirecting from ASP.NET WebForms to MVC

    Hi there, We have a large existing ASP.NET WebForms application, but we are now moving over to MVC. Rather than go through a painful process of trying to integrate MVC into the existing app, we're looking at creating a brand new VS project to completely isolate the new code. As a first step, we are wanting to use the existing login process of the WebForms app, then redirect over to the MVC app. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this (i.e. redirect from a WebForms project to the MVC project, in the same VS solution)? All the information I've found so far suggests either starting from scratch in MVC, or combing MVC into the existing Webforms project - neither of which is very feasible. Many thanks, Paul

    I am building an ASP.Net MVC app that will run on a shared hosting account to host multiple domains. I started with the default template that includes membership and created an mvc area for each domain. Routing is set up to point to the correct area depending on the domain the request is for. Now I would like to set up membership specific to each mvc area. I tried the obvious first and attempted to override the section of the web.config for each area to change the applicationName attribute of the provider. That doesn't work since the area is not set up as an application root. Is there an easy way to separate the users for each area?

  • Special Characters from SQLite DB

    Hi, I read from a sqlite db to my iphone app. Within the texts sometimes there are special characters like 'xf2' or 'xe0' as I can see in the debugger in the char* data type. When I try to transform the chars to an NSString Object by using initWithUTF8String, I get a nil back. How can I transform such special characters? Thanks for your help. Bye Matthias

    I'm wondering if using a CASE statement in SQLite (or other SQL engines) to replace data is not advised. For example lets say I have a query. SELECT Users, CASE WHEN Active = 0 THEN 'Inactive' WHEN Active = 1 THEN 'Active' WHEN Active = 2 THEN 'Processing' ELSE 'ERROR' AS Active FROM UsersTable; When is it better to create a reference table and perform a JOIN. In this case I would create a Table 'ActiveStatesTable' with ActiveID, ActiveDescription and perform the JOIN.

Our database contains records like: TX, Austin OH, Columbus OH, Columbus TX, Austin OH, Cleveland OH, Dayton OH, Columbus TX, Dallas TX, Houston TX, Austin (State-field and a city-field.) I need output like this: OH: Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton TX: Dallas, Houston, Austin (Each state listed once... and all the cities in that state.) What would the SELECT statement(s) look like?

I'd like to find information about using the client-side validation JavaScript without using DataAnnotations, and I'd like to find out how custom validations are handled. For example, if I want to validate two fields together, how would I utilize the provided JavaScript? Or if I wanted to write validation code on the server-side that queried a database, how could I use the provided JavaScript to implement a similar validation? I don't see any books on MVC2 yet, and the blog entries I've found are not detailed enough.

    I ran into an interesting error with the following LiNQ query using LiNQPad and when using Subsonic 3.0.x w/ActiveRecord within my project and wanted to share the error and resolution for anyone else who runs into it. The linq statement below is meant to group entries in the tblSystemsValues collection into their appropriate system and then extract the system with the highest ID. from ksf in KeySafetyFunction where ksf.Unit == 2 && ksf.Condition_ID == 1 join sys in tblSystems on ksf.ID equals sys.KeySafetyFunction join xval in (from t in tblSystemsValues group t by t.tblSystems_ID into groupedT select new { sysId = groupedT.Key, MaxID = groupedT.Max(g=>g.ID), MaxText = groupedT.First(gt2 => gt2.ID == groupedT.Max(g=>g.ID)).TextValue, MaxChecked = groupedT.First(gt2 => gt2.ID == groupedT.Max(g=>g.ID)).Checked }) on sys.ID equals xval.sysId select new {KSFDesc=ksf.Description, sys.Description, xval.MaxText, xval.MaxChecked} On its own, the subquery for grouping into groupedT works perfectly and the query to match up KeySafetyFunctions with their System in tblSystems also works perfectly on its own. However, when trying to run the completed query in linqpad or within my project I kept running into a SQLiteException SQLite Error Near "(" First I tried splitting the queries up within my project because I knew that I could just run a foreach loop over the results if necessary. However, I continued to receive the same exception! I eventually separated the query into three separate parts before I realized that it was the lazy execution of the queries that was killing me. I am looking for the following functionality: Ability to have users sign up for different plans (Gold, Premium etc) Ability to have users upgrade / downgrade to and from plans Ability to hook this up to a Payment processor Ability to have a credit based system (User buys x credits for $y) as an alternative to plans in (1) Most of this functionality (if not all) is supported by a large number of websites which makes me think I can leverage on an existing framework instead of re-inventing the wheel. Given the following example, it can get rather tedious ...   • Android browse SQLite database on phone

    How can I browse the SQLite database that I am creating in my app on my Android myTouch phone? When I log in through adb shell, sqlite3 gives me a permission denied. Is there another way to check if my database and tables are actually being created, and if rows are being inserted? I am not able to use the emulator, since it doesn't play videos etc. very well that is the main feature of my app, so I can only test on phone. Thanks Chris

    Is it possible for two or more ASP.NET MVC sites to use a single SQL Server database for authentication and other things? Here's how I'm thinking of setting it up: I will combine the current database of each site into one single database, prefixing the tables with the name of the site they belong to. I currently have authentication tables generated by the asp.net_regsql.exe utility. How should I combine those tables?   • Implementing a Suspension or Penalty System for Users in ASP.NET MVC

    I'm writing a site in ASP.NET MVC that will have user accounts. As the site will be oriented towards discussion, I think I need a system for admins to be able to moderate users, just like we have here, on Stack Overflow. I'd like to be able to put a user into a "suspension", so that they are able to log in to the site (at which point they are greeted with a message, such as, "Your account has been suspended until [DATE]"), but are unable to do the functions that users they would normally be able to do. What's the best way of implementing this? I was thinking of creating a "Suspended" role, but the thing is, I have a few different roles for normal users themselves, with different privileges. Have you ever designed a feature like this before? How should I do it? Thanks in advance.
