  • How to handle feedback from background threads if the user uses the back button?

    - by Janusz
    I have the following problem: I have an Activity where a user can start a web search showing a new activity to show a progress bar until the results are shown. Now the user can either wait for the results or maybe think about the search parameters, hit the back button and triggering a new search. The search is running in an Async Task and therefor still running if the user hits back. At the moment the thread finishes it calls some methods on the old activity causing the activity to show a dialog. This causes the system to crash because the dialog tries to show itself with a reference to an activity that is not longer present on the screen. How can I achieve a dialog that is only shown if the activity is still active?

  • Determine opencore or stagefright framework for mediaplayer?

    - by user415422
    I need to determine if a mediaplayer is using the opencore media framework, so that I can disable seeking for my streams. The opencore framework appears to fail silently with seeking, which I am having a hard time believing they allowed into production, but that seems the case nonetheless. I wish it were as simple as determining their SDK version, but droid phones that have api 8 seem to use opencore still, so doesn't seem to be a good option. Any ideas?

  • Icon backdrop on Samsung Galaxy S? how to change this?

    - by AKh
    Hi all, I see a backdrop being added to my launch icon on the Samsung Galaxy S devices. I need this backdrop changed to a custom backdrop which we created. I know this can be changed since apps like"Daily Briefing" have their own cloud like backdrop making the launch icon look really rich. If anyone does know how to change this backdrop please let me know. I am talking about the background image set behind the icons. Eg: in the below image on the 1st row can you notice the yellow backdrop for Memo app, Green backdrop for Mini Diary app, similarily in the 3rd row notice the green backdrop behind the MAIL app.... I need to change these backdrops. Thanks in advance. Appreciate your help.

  • Replace every word with tag

    - by Sherif elKhatib
    JAVASCRIPT or JAVA solution needed The solution I am looking for could use java or javascript. I have the html code in a string so I could manipulate it before using it with java or afterwards with javascript. problem Anyway, I have to wrap each word with a tag. For example: <html> ... > Hello every one, cheers < ... </html> should be changed to <html> ... > <word>Hello</word> <word>every</word> <word>one</word>, <word>cheers</word> < ... </html> JAVASCRIPT hint I am using the following code to highlight a word; however, this will highlight the whole text belonging to a certain tag. When each word is a tag, this will work to some extent. If there is a substitute that will allow me to highlight a word at a certain position, it would also be a solution. function highlightElementAtPoint(xOrdinate, yOrdinate) { var theElement = document.elementFromPoint(xOrdinate, yOrdinate); selectedElement = theElement; theElement.style.backgroundColor = "yellow"; var theName = theElement.nodeName; var theArray = document.getElementsByTagName(theName); var theIndex = -1; for (i = 0; i < theArray.length; i++) { if (theArray[i] == theElement) { theIndex = i; } } window.androidselection.selected(theElement.innerHTML); return theName + " " + theIndex; }

  • how to save state of dynamically created editTexts

    - by user922531
    I'm stuck at how to save the state of my EditTexts on screen orientation. Currently if text is inputted into the EditTexts and the screen is orientated, the fields are wiped (as expected). I am already calling onSaveInstanceState and saving a String, but I have no clue on how to save the EditTexts which are created in code and then retrieve them and add them to the EditTexts when redrawing the activity. Snippet of my code: My main activity is as follows: public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); // get the multidim array b = getIntent().getBundleExtra("obj"); m = (Methods) b.getSerializable("Methods"); // method to draw the layout InitialiseUI(); // Restore UI state from the savedInstanceState. if (savedInstanceState != null) { String strValue = savedInstanceState.getString("light"); if (strValue != null) { FLight = strValue; } } try { mCamera = Camera.open(); if (FLight.equals("true")) { flashLight(); } } catch (Exception e) { Log.d(TAG, "Thrown exception onCreate() camera: " + e); } } // end onCreate /** Called when the back button is pressed. */ @Override public void onResume() { super.onResume(); try { mCamera = Camera.open(); if (FLight.equals("true")) { flashLight(); } } catch (Exception e) { Log.d(TAG, "Thrown exception onCreate() camera: " + e); } } // end onCreate /** saves data before leaving the screen */ @Override protected void onSaveInstanceState(Bundle outState) { super.onSaveInstanceState(outState); outState.putString("light", FLight); } /** called when exiting / leaving the screen */ @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); Log.d(TAG, "onPause()"); if (mCamera != null) { mCamera.stopPreview(); mCamera.release(); mCamera = null; } } /* * set up the UI elements - add click listeners to buttons used in * onCreate() and onConfigurationChanged() * * Set the editTexts fields to show the previous readings as Hints */ public void InitialiseUI() { Log.d(TAG, "Start of InitialiseUI, Main activity"); // get a reference to the TableLayout final TableLayout myTLreads = (TableLayout) findViewById(R.id.myTLreads); // Create arrays to hold the TVs and ETs final TextView[] myTextViews = new TextView[m.getNoRows()]; // create an empty array; final EditText[] myEditTexts = new EditText[m.getNoRows()]; // create an empty array; for(int i =0; i<=m.getNoRows()-1;i++ ){ TableRow tr=new TableRow(this); tr.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams( LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT)); // create a new textview / editText final TextView rowTextView = new TextView(this); final EditText rowEditText = new EditText(this); // setWidth is needed otherwise my landscape layout is OFF rowEditText.setWidth(400); // this stops the keyboard taking up the whole screen in landscape layout rowEditText.setImeOptions(EditorInfo.IME_FLAG_NO_EXTRACT_UI); // add some padding to the right of the TV rowTextView.setPadding(0,0,10,0); // set colors to white rowTextView.setTextColor(Color.parseColor("#FFFFFF")); rowEditText.setTextColor(Color.parseColor("#FFFFFF")); // if readings already sent today set color to yellow if(m.getTransmit(i+1)==false){ rowEditText.setEnabled(false); rowEditText.setHintTextColor(Color.parseColor("#FFFF00")); } // set the text of the TV to the meter name rowTextView.setText(m.getMeterName(i+1)); // set the hint of the ET to the last submitted reading rowEditText.setHint(m.getLastReadString(i+1)); // add the textview to the linearlayout rowEditText.setInputType(InputType.TYPE_CLASS_PHONE);//InputType.TYPE_NUMBER_FLAG_DECIMAL); tr.addView(rowTextView); tr.addView(rowEditText); myTLreads.addView(tr); // add a reference to the textView myTextViews[i] = rowTextView; myEditTexts[i] = rowEditText; } final Button submit = (Button) findViewById(R.id.submitReadings); // add a click listener to the button try { submit.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { Log.d(TAG, "Submit button clicked, Main activity"); preSubmitCheck(m.getAccNo(), m.getPostCode(), myEditTexts); // method to do HTML getting and sending } }); } catch (Exception e) { Log.d(TAG, "Exceptions (submit button)" + e.toString()); } }// end of InitialiseUI I don't need to do anything with these values until a button is clicked. Would it be easier if they were a ListView, i'm guessing I would still have the problem of saving them and retrieving them on rotation. If it helps I have an object m which is a string[][] I could temporarily somehow store them in

  • Can we instantiate abstract class?

    - by satheesh.droid
    I don't understand whether we can instantiate abstract class by any means because I have read we can inherit the abstract class but in have found we can create an object by calling method of other class.For example LocationProvider is an abstract class but we can create object for the same by calling getProvider() function in LocationManager class. By the following code LocationManager lm=getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_PROVIDER) LocationProvider lp=lm.getProvider("gps");

  • Transparent Dialog Alignment

    - by feragusper
    I'm trying to get a custom dialog with a transparent background doing this way: this.getWindow().setBackgroundDrawableResource(R.drawable.transparent); (where "R.drawable.transparent" is a reference to the color "#00000000") The weird issue on this is that I can't align my dialog window. It's always aligned to the left, even if I implicit set the Gravity of the window using: this.getWindow().setGravity(Gravity.CENTER); And if I just comment the line which set the transparent background, the alignment works fine. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

  • Rhomobile vs. Phonegap considerations

    - by NewB
    I'm debating between Phonegap and RhoMobile for cross platform mobile application development. I'm a web developer with experience in Ruby as well as the traditional web technologies (HTML, CSS, and Javascript). The backend of this application will be accessed via a web browser and built with Rails. What are my chief concerns when choosing between these platforms? Which would you recommend I go with and WHY? Thank you

  • Animation not start immediately when the target view is out of window

    - by funnything
    Hi. When I apply some animation to the view, which is out of window, the animation not start immediately. And then, I scroll the screen to show the animation target view, the animation will start. I hope to the animation will start immediately when it apply. Any ideas? Bellow is sample code. Thank you. public class AnimationValidationActivity extends Activity { private ViewSwitcher _viewSwitcher; private Button _button; /** * utility method for animation */ private Animation buildTranslateAnimation( float fromXDelta , float toXDelta , float fromYDelta , float toYDelta ) { Animation ret = new TranslateAnimation( fromXDelta , toXDelta , fromYDelta , toYDelta ); ret.setDuration( 1000 ); return ret; } /** * build view in place of layout.xml */ private View buildView() { ScrollView ret = new ScrollView( this ); ret.setLayoutParams( new LinearLayout.LayoutParams( LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT , LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT ) ); LinearLayout parent = new LinearLayout( this ); parent.setLayoutParams( new LinearLayout.LayoutParams( LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT , LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT ) ); parent.setOrientation( LinearLayout.VERTICAL ); ret.addView( parent ); _viewSwitcher = new ViewSwitcher( this ); _viewSwitcher.setLayoutParams( new LinearLayout.LayoutParams( LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT , 100 ) ); parent.addView( _viewSwitcher ); View spacer = new View( this ); spacer.setLayoutParams( new LinearLayout.LayoutParams( LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT , getWindow() .getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getHeight() ) ); parent.addView( spacer ); _button = new Button( this ); _button.setText( "button" ); parent.addView( _button ); return ret; } @Override public void onCreate( Bundle savedInstanceState ) { super.onCreate( savedInstanceState ); setContentView( buildView() ); _viewSwitcher.setFactory( new ViewSwitcher.ViewFactory() { @Override public View makeView() { TextView view = new TextView( AnimationValidationActivity.this ); view.setLayoutParams( new ViewSwitcher.LayoutParams( ViewSwitcher.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT , ViewSwitcher.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT ) ); view.setBackgroundColor( 0xffffffff ); view.setText( "foobar" ); return view; } } ); _button.setOnClickListener( new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick( View v ) { _viewSwitcher.setInAnimation( buildTranslateAnimation( _viewSwitcher.getWidth() , 0 , 0 , 0 ) ); _viewSwitcher.setOutAnimation( buildTranslateAnimation( 0 , - _viewSwitcher.getWidth() , 0 , 0 ) ); int color = new Random().nextInt(); _viewSwitcher.getNextView().setBackgroundColor( 0xff000000 | color & 0xffffff ); _viewSwitcher.showNext(); } } ); } }

  • Adding on touch event to images inside gridview

    - by Steve
    I have a gridview where each item has a image and a textview (an app), i added the onItemClick to the gridview in order to launch the app, i also removed the orange selection and made selector in xml so when pressed the text would change to grey and on release it would return to white. My problem is that i need the image to apply an alpha value when pressed and restore the previous alpha on release i tested a lot of ways and none did worked correctly. I came close with the updated answer from the autor of the question: How to set alpha value for drawable in a StateListDrawable?, but some how the state pressed never gets called, i don´t know if this is because i am using the onitemClick to launch the app or not. Also i since i can´t define the alpha on imageview xml i don´t know what else to do Any help will be appreciated

  • Recover lost code from compiled apk

    - by AlexRamallo
    I have an issue here..and its making me really nervous. I was working on this game, and it was going great, so I took a copy of it on my laptop to work do some work while away from my computer. long story short, hard-drive failure + poor back ups led to me losing a very important class. Is there a way to decompile the apk to retrieve the bit of code that was lost? It isn't overly complicated or sophisticated, its just that its impossible to re-write it without reading every. single. line. of. code. in the entire application since it initializes a LOT of classes and loads a bunch of stuff in a specific way. With a quick google search I was able to find apktool, which decompiles it into a bunch of .smali files, which I don't think were designed for human reading. All I need to recover is one very big method in the class. I found the smali file that contains it and I think I found the line where it starts. something like .method public declared-synchronized load(Lcom/X/X/game/X;)I Anyone help would be appreciated since I would have to scrap the entire game without this method.
