  • How can I locate .NET Library property/function that return a particular type?

    Occasionally I will know that there is a .NET Framework function that returns a particular type of object, but I can't recall the property or function name. It would be really nice to be able to somehow scan the Framework or other DLL for functions that return a particular type of object. (For example, it would have helped when I asked this question, and I have a similar question again.) Can anyone suggest how I might do this?

  • ASP.NET PageMethods and The HTTP verb POST used to access path is not allowed

    So, I'm using URL routing with WebForms. I run locally through the Visual Studio web server, and everything is hunky-dory. I deploy locally to IIS (XP, so it's IIS5), and therefore I need to make sure that I have my app wildcard mapped so the URL routing is handled properly. However, doing this makes all my PageMethods fail with this message: The HTTP verb POST used to access path is not allowed Something like /default.aspx/SendMessage does not work. I've seen solutions that exclude .svx and .asmx files, however, since this is a page method, this is a .aspx file. I know the solution is to move these files outside of .aspx, however, I have quite a few functions throughout the site in these various files. I guess I could create a single web service, and have all the functions there, however, I'm curious if there's a quick and easy way to fix this? Thanks all, -Steve

  • ASP.NET MVC: AuthorizeAttribute on default page

    The default controller in my ASP.NET MVC project is decorated with the [Authorize] attribute. When I deploy the website on my development machine and access the website, I am redirected to the login page (defined in forms loginUrl section of the Web.Config). Result: everything works as expected. When I publish the website on our production server (Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, DefaultAppPool) and access the website, the expected address shows in the address bar (/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=*my_expected_return_url*), but the page displays "You do not have permission to view this directory or page." instead of the login page. If I remove the [Authorize] attribute on the default controller/action, the page displays correctly. My Web.Config file: sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="30" authentication mode="Forms" forms loginUrl="~/Account/LogOn" timeout="2880"

  • Printing PDFs Server-side using Acrobat Reader from ASP.NET

    Hi, I have been presented with a problem which requires me to print PDF files from a server as part of an ASP.NET web service. The problem is further complicated by the fact that the PDF files I have to print can ONLY be printed using Adobe Reader (they were created using Adobe LiveCycle and have some strange protection in them). This piece of code seems to do the trick in the Visual Studio development web server, but doesn't do anything when the site's running in IIS. I'm assuming this is probably some sort of permissions issue!? I know this is a FAR from ideal thing to be trying to do, but I haven't really got much choice! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!   • ASP.NET url MAX_PATH limit

    Hi, I've found an issue with ASP.NET that I know at least has stumped one other person out there. We were trying to use an HttpModule to handle wildcard requests to a web application. The generated url is dynamic and could potentially be several hundred characters long. Unfortunately there appears to be a limitation in the aspnet_isapi.dll file that limits the length of the path in the url to MAX_PATH which is hardcoded at 260 chars. Has anyone else ran into this and found a way around this limit? Query string parameters are not an option. Thanks, Greg Ballard

  • Cannot use Html.ActionLink in asp.net mvc spark files

    I'm using the spark view engine with my asp.net mvc application. In my aspx pages, I can succesfully use Html.Actionlink, but when I attempt it in spark files, it doesnt show up in intellisense, and when i try to run it anyway, i get: Dynamic view compilation failed. c:\Users\midas\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\ChurchMVC\ChurchMVC\Views\Home\Index.spark(73,25): error CS1061: 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' does not contain a definition for 'ActionLink' and no extension method 'ActionLink' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I do have system.web.mvc referenced, and I have added in _global.spark. None of that helps. Any ideas?

  • ASP.NET Session expires in no time?

    Weired problem! ASP.NET Session expires instantly. In my web.config I have this session settings: <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="10000" /> AFAIK the timeout attribute's value is in minutes and can't be greater than 525,600 minutes (1 year). I don't understand what I am doing wrong here. Why is the session expiring. Is it a server memory issue? I don't think so, the server is pretty descent and it has only one site which isn't doing much after all. Ideas? EDIT: After setting the cookiless attribute to true, and while noticing the session id on the url, I can see that the session id CHANGING. I assume that this means the session is expiring. The IIS Settings are correct AFAIK (the enable session state checkbox is checked, and the value of the time is 20). A Picture is worth 100 words:

  • ASP.Net State Server on EC2 not connection

    I am trying to set up an Asp.Net State Server on Amazon EC2. The single web server using this State Server is also on EC2. I've done the following things. I've added the IIS role on the State Server. I changed the value in the registry to allow connections for the service and started the aspstate service. I verified it is listening on port 42424 by checking netstat. I edited the web.config of the Web server to point to this server. I added the the tcp port to my EC2 security group and allowed it for all incoming ip's. Anything else I am not doing?

    Hey there, Something I can't wrap my head around is how secure web services are. For example we're writing a desktop application that will interact with data on one of our websites as well as local data. This data is sensitive though and the last thing we want is anybody calling the web services. I've not yet found anything that says web services has some kind of authentication methods and the only security I've seen people talk about is using certificates to encrypt the message. I'm no guru on this and would appreciate anyone's input and perhaps a link to somewhere that will explain this in simple terms. Thanks Jacques

    I need to setup some 301 permanent redirects in the web.config of an ASP.NET MVC application running under IIS. The easiest way is to add a tag similar to the one below to the web.config file: <location path="TheMenu.aspx"> <system.webServer> <httpRedirect enabled="true" destination="menus/" httpResponseStatus="Permanent" /> </system.webServer> </location> When I go to the site at http://domain.com/TheMenu.aspx it redirects me to http://domain.com/menusxd instead of http://domain.com/menus What would be causing this?     Hello, I know we need a better solution but we need to get this done this way for right now. We have a long import process that's fired when you click start import button on a aspx web page. It takes a long time..sometimes several hours. I changed the timeout and that's fine but I keep getting a connection server reset error after about an hour. I'm thinking it's the asp.net lifecycle and I'd like to know if there are settings in IIS I can change to make this lifecycle last longer.

    Hi, I have an edit form that uses an ajax form to submit to the controller. Depending on the data submitted I redirect the user to one of two pages (by returning a partial view). Both pages rely on javascript/jquery and neither use anything common between the pages. What is the best way to initialise these javascripts on each page? I know there is the AjaxOption OnComplete but both pages are quite dynamic depending on the Model passed and I would rather keep the javascript for both pages seperate rather than having a common method.   • Subscription website architecture questions + SQL Server & .NET

    Hey Guys, I have a few questions about the architecture of a subscription service I am about to embark on and I am looking for some feedback on how best to set it up. I won’t have a large amount of customers as Basecamp, maybe a few hundred and was wondering what would be a solid architecture for setting up the customer sites. I’m running SQL Server and .NET on a dedicated machine. Should create a new database for each customer as to have control and isolation of data or keep them all in one database? I am also thinking of creating a sub-domain for each customer as well so modifications can be made to each site as needed. The customer URLs would look like this: https://customer1.foobar.com https://customer2.foobar.com I am going to have the ability to ‘plug-in’ reports that will be uploaded to the site so each customer can customize as needed. Off the top of my head this necessitates having each sub domain on its own code-base for the uploading of these reports. So on the main site the customer would sign up for their new subscription and I would programmatically create a new directory for the customer from the main code base and then create a sub domain pointing to the new directory for the customer and then finally their database. Does this sound about right? Am I on the right track? How do other such sites accomplish the same thing? Thanks for letting me bend your ear for a bit on this.
