• How to post a blog without public access

  I want to keep a blog with pictures and videos of my kid growing up but I don't want it to be open to the public. I just want me and my wife to be able to post to it and then share with grandparents and friends. I'm at the start so I would like a platform (blogger, wordpress, ...) that has these features and that also allows export of the data (if one day I want to migrate to a different platform). I've been trying out blogger which allows you to have a private blog. But when I upload images they get stored in a hard to guess URL but are otherwise public. Are there better options to this? For videos I think I am happy with embedding Vimeo videos since they ask for a password to be viewed but I am open to suggestions.

• Windows 7 - How to access my documents from Windows 8 (dual boot)

  I am dual booting Windows 7 and Windows 8 on two different partitions of the same drive: Win7: (C:) Win8: (D:) I am trying to get access to my Win7 user folder (C:\Users\Mason) in order to access my Win7 documents folder (C:\Users\Mason\Documents) from Windows 8. When I try to on Windows 8, I get an error message saying "You don't have permission to access this folder. Click here to permanently get access to this folder". When I click, the progress bar in Windows Explorer slowly moves to the maximum and disappears. When I try opening the folder, I get the same error message. When editing security permissions for the folder in Windows 8, Explorer freezes. I do not know how to remove the restrictions from Windows 7. I checked the Windows 8 user folder (D:\Users\Mason) and it had the group or user name: "S-1-5-21-936898901-3363470404-1273668825-1001". I tried copying and pasting it into the Win7 User Folder Permissions, but got the error "An object with the following name cannot be found". How would I access my folders?

  My embedded Linux device have 2 partitions: small root partition containing OS. big data partition which uses ext3 I want to encrypt the data partition by using encrypted file system. I don't want loose any data of the partition. Size of the root partition is too small to hold all data of the data partition. It is not possible to use any external data storage. Is there any tools that can convert filesystem of the data partition from ext3 to encrypted fs without copying all files to other place?

• HID USB Very Strange Problem...

  I realy hope some one can help me here cause i search all over the web and nothing comes up.. I allways used PS/2 KB and Mouse and a USB KeyPad (Genius ErgoMedia 500 Gaming Explorer) to play some games, mmorpg, fps, you named, very good whit 11 keys whit possible macros etc etc... Now it comes the problem, i have a USB mouse that have 4 extra buttons, and i need more button, i love buttons.. Well, i plug in the USB mouse and disconectes de PS/2. Everything is ok until i toutch the mouse. If i do so, the ErgoMedia goes off, then on, then i mouse the mouse or press a button and all over again. Yesterday i went buying a new mouse that i liked, a USB mouse too (NPlay whit macros and all that stuff 3600dpi...) Hoping the problem was only whit the other mouse, but no.. It does the exact same thing, ErgoMedia keeps disconecting and conecting everytime i toutch the mouse. What i allready did: Update drivers of both mouses Update drivers of ErgoMedia (no specific drivers(Windows based)) Update drivers of MB Chipset (Actualy no, cause it was up to date allready) Trying other USB Ports (4 Ports back, 4 Ports Front and even 1 Port in 16 card slot device) Disable the "Allows Windows to shut down the energy bla bla" thing in Device Setings. Look up in the Device Setings only apear a problem on the ergomedia (Human interface Device) when i move the damm mouse.. Using Everest to read behavier, everything normal, exepts the disconecting thing, but no errors. Not a power suply, only the ErgoMedia and the mouse are in the USBs, and i allready disable the 16 card reader whit one usb slot to see.. Clean the IRQ registry. Look the entire internet for a fix solution. Help others problems wile looking for a fix for me (Im not a pro but not a completly stupid) Talking to you beggin you to help me as a last resorce... Machine: Acer M3641 Core2Quad 64x Based OS Vista 64b 4GbRAM HD Audio and Graphics I realy hope some one out there knows a fix for this, maybe it´s a simple thing, so simple that i´m to stupid to see that.. • Overclock Failed

  This morning when I tried to turn on my computer, the monitor would not display anything. The computer is on, but no UI on the monitor and no beep. I turned off the computer and turn it back on again. This time, the computer was on for about 2 seconds and automatically turned itself off for about 2 second and automatically turned itself back on. This happened two times without the monitor displaying any UI. On the third try, the computer did the same thing but when it turned itself back on, the monitor displayed this: American Megatrends Asus P8P67 Le ACPI bios Revision 1011 CPU Intel Core i5 2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz Speed: 3300MHz Total Memory 4096 MB (DDR3-1333) USB Devices Total: 0 Drive, 1 Keyboard, 1 Mouse, 2 Hubs Detected ATA/ATAPI Deivces SATA6G_2 Hitachi HDs821010CLA 332 SATA3G_1 Corsair force 3 SSD SATA3G_2 HL-DT-ST DB-RE UH12CS28 Overclocking Failed! Please enter setup to reconfigure your system. Press F1 to Run Setup. After I pressed F1, it went into the Asus EF1 Bios Utility. I couldn't do anything in there so I just exited. After which, the computer auto turned off and on again and I was able to use the PC like regular. This has never happened to this computer before and the day before, nothing seemed wrong, just regular use and some gaming.

  I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and I am a bit of a robotics enthusiast. I have used KiKS (in MATLAB for simulating Khepera robots), MobotSim (in Windows, simulates a point like robot using a BASIC editor) and Player/Stage (with C/C++ on Ubuntu 9.04). My question, can MS Robotics Studio be installed in Ubuntu Linux using Wine (I am using 1.1.31) ? Has anyone done it ? Any other way to install MS Robotics Studio in Unix (Any flavour) ? • Export NFS path containing "-" (dash)

  I'm in a bit of a pinch with NFS exports file. Specifically, I can't find a way to export a directory containing "-" in the path name. Manual (exports(5)) states: Also, each line may have one or more specifications for default options after the path name, in the form of a dash ("-") followed by an option list. The option list is used for all subsequent exports on that line only. It then states: If an export name contains spaces it should be quoted using double quotes. You can also specify spaces or other unusual character in the export name using a backslash followed by the character code as three octal digits. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Specifically, if the pathname contains "-", either verbatim, or with \055 or is enclosed in double quotes, it still refers to the name without "-" Any ideas? I have a large number of directories, all of the form /vol/buildsystem-s3c2440 /vol/buildsystem-tao3530 and I'd prefer to have them all available as nfs exports. Short of replacing the "-" with "_" everywhere in the scripts, can it be done with "-" ?

Note that I don't have the software that may have come with the drive, but I'm assuming it works because I can burn files with Explorer. I just need something that can handle images too.

• "Disk boot failure" error after installing Windows 7 on SSD

  I have a system with 3 SATA drives which runs fine. Got a new SSD drive and wanted to install a fresh Windows-7 on it. So I removed the boot drive and replaced it with the SSD drive. Installed Windows and when it was done, rebooted and now I get "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter" error message. I reinstall again and still same message. Removed the SSD and put back the original drive and I got the same message!! I checked the BIOS and things look good. Something is wrong. Two questions: 1- Why isn't the new Windows booting from the SSD? 2- Why isn't the machine booting using the previous working configuration anymore, after removing the SSD? I did connect it during the second Windows installation but it was the last drive in the SATA connector. Would Windows installer mess with its MBR sector?

• Getting "GRUB loading ... no such partition"?

  I am having a dual os, windows 7 and linux, the c drive have 20 GB, in which 5 GB is allocated for windows 7 (original) and 15 gb for linux since the spacing for windows is very low i used EaseUS partition manager and deleted my linux OS, and merged the unused space into my C drive, now it becomes 20GB, the things, after the reboot, I am getting GRUB loading. Welcome to GRUB! error: no such partition. entering rescue mode. . . Kindly help me guys the problem i am facing is i dont have a DVD drive to resolve it, using recovery mode. • Centos iptables blocks after reboot

  I have a Centos5 installation with kvm on my server. I am using nat portforwarding to ssh my virtual machines. I have several iptables rules and saved then in /etc/sysconfig/iptables. After reboot, I see all these rules when I type service iptables status but I am getting a connection refused error. After typing service iptables restart everything works. I don't understand, why do I need to restart iptables again? Doesn't it restart on reboot?

• Windows 7 Natively on Mac OS X Bootcamp, Airport Wifi Unable To Connect....

  Hello! I am using a brand new MacBook Pro. I am running a copy of Windows 7 natively via bootcamp (No use of Virtual Machine Software at all). However the only way I can get Windows to connect to the internet is via ethernet, as opposed to the Macs Airport card picking up the wireless. It just refuses to connect, and gives me a limited access status. Any ideas!? I've run Windows XP natively via bootcamp and I had a few issues with the network constantly dropping out, however I blamed that on the drivers and the general shiteness of XP.... Help greatly appreciated.

• Have you ever seen an install of IE 8 whose version number was still 6.0?

  I was at a local university computer lab presenting a website I work on and I discovered something that looked really unusual to me. Their machines had Internet Explorer 8 installed, but when you check the version number (Help-About Internet Explorer) it listed the version number as 6.0. It also gave me an "Operation Aborted" error that is supposed to be gone in IE8. Has anyone else run across this situation?

• Is the view history in Firefox 3.6.3 broken or is there an "undocumented feature"?

  Firefox View History Before Firefox 3.6.3 when I clicked Ctrl+H it would display my browsing history and I would be able to search it, sort it by Most Visited, Last Visited, etc. Since 3.6.3 I have been having issues: Firefox does not display any entries when filtering by Most Visited or Last Visited. Searching does not work regardless of what keyword I use (i.e. if I type stackoverflow it won't even find it, although it's one of the most visited web sites in my history). Is anybody experiencing similar problems? Are there any known issues that might be causing the problems that I'm seeing?

• Log into another XP machine's SQL Server with a different userid? (WORKGROUP, not domain)

  I have two machines at home, both XP Pro SP3. I have no domain controller, so they're both just in WORKGROUP. How can I, using Windows Authentication, log into an instance of SQL Server running on the other machine? Whenever I try it, it seems to try to login as 'Guest', even though I have entered the machine name (OTHER-DESKTOP), and login (OTHER-DESKTOP\otheruser) in the User Accounts Control Panel box. It works fine if I use sql server name and password, so I know the server is running. Any clues?

• Windows 7 Group Policy blocking Adobe Reader

  A few weeks ago, my company blocked Adobe Reader due to an unpatched security issue. However, we recently moved one of our computers to a project that didn't require access to the corporate network, and IT gave us the green light to override Group Policy and re-enable Adobe Reader. However, this is something we've been unable to achieve. We've tried the following (in no particular order), all to no avail: Ran the program as administrator Renamed the program (the blocking is likely signature-based) Deleted registry.pol Changed the value of "Start" in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\services\gpsvc to "4" (to prevent group policy from applying, even though it's no longer on the corporate domain) Checked SRP settings under Local Security Policy - nothing was there Checked AppLocker settings under Local Security Policy - nothing there either Incidentally, I found a few registry keys with descriptions referring to Adobe Reader being blocked. I deleted all of them, but it didn't help. Changed the permission settings of the program Re-installed Adobe Reader Is there anything I missed, short of doing a clean install?

• ownCloud WebDAV interface seems to be broken

  I've been trying to host ownCloud on my server but everytime I try to it tells me this : Your web server is not yet properly setup to allow files synchronization because the WebDAV interface seems to be broken. Please double check the installation guides. This is my setup : Windows Server 2012 R2 IIS 8.5 PHP 5.5.11 ownCloud 6.0.3 MySQL 5.6.17 I tried google the error but I can't seem to find anything usefull. Some say I should try if this works : [hostname]/remote.php/webdav/ and yes I can navigate to this folder and I can open files from there. The calendar works and I can also just upload files the web version of ownCloud the only thing that doesn't seem to work is the sync client. • Win7 Aero disabled due to mirror drivers following TightVNC use, cannot re-enable

  I recently installed TightVNC, and used it to access my desktop from my phone. When I did so, my desktop reported that Aero had been disabled due to an application being run that didn't support it. I now cannot re-enable Aero, despite having closed the TightVNC server (and indeed having rebooted a number of times since). Windows 7 troubleshooting reports the following: Close programs using mirror drivers To allow Aero effects to be displayed, close any programs that use mirror drivers (a type of display driver), such as Windows Remote Assistance and Windows Live Mesh. The troubleshooting system appears to attempt to automatically fix that, but fails. I can see nothing in the task manager that obviously uses mirror drivers; in particular, I can see nothing that looks like TightVNC in there. Starting and exiting TightVNC makes no difference. Google has turned up nothing that looks useful so far, either, although my Google-fu isn't great and I may just be searching for the wrong things. There's another question that reports the same problem, caused by LogMeIn rather than TightVNC, but the solution listed there doesn't work—TightVNC doesn't install LogMeIn mirror drivers, for obvious reasons.
