  • Whats the thing the report bugs in php?

    Currently I am learning php. Php is understood by browser itself right from php sdk right? SDK include libraries right? So browser is like an interpreter of php codes. I want to know that whenever I type a wrong php syntax what is the thing report me the error? Obviously the browser is reporting the error. But what part of it? I mean I don't get it. Like writing a compiler we do lexical analysis and make the compiler which report any bug in source code. I assume here browser is analogous to compiler. I don't know exactly but compiler contains bug report functions or methods which is debugger. Debugger is part of compiler which report bugs. Does the browser contains such debuggers? Can there be any browser which doesn't understand php?

  • How do you achieve a numeric versioning scheme with Git?

    My organization is considering moving from SVN to Git. One argument against moving is as follows: How do we do versioning? We have an SDK distribution based on the NetBeans Platform. As the svn revisions are simple numbers we can use them to extend the version numbers of our plugins and SDK builds. How do we handle this when we move to Git? Possible solutions: Using the build number from hudson (Problem: you have to check hudson to correlate that to an actual git version) Manually upping the version for nightly and stable (Problem: Learning curve, human error) If someone else has encountered a similar problem and solved it, we'd love to hear how.

  • OUYA and Unity set up problems

    I'm having trouble with the Unity / OUYA plugin. I'm using Unity 4 with the latest update on a Windows 7 machine. When I open the starter kit and try to compile the plugin I get the following error: Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: -Xmx512M And if I try to Build and Run I get this error: Error building Player: ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path. I'm stumped, I've gone through lots of forum posts here and on stackoverflow and I can't seem to resolve it. My environment variables look like this: PATH - C:\Users\dave\Documents\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130219\sdk\tools; C:\Users\dave\Documents\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130219\sdk\platform-tools\ JAVA_HOME - C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_45\ Everything in the OUYA Panel is white Any ideas?

    I wanted to use DirectMusic in my game, but it's not in the June 2010 SDK, so I thought that I had to use DirectSound. Then I saw the XAudio2.h header in the SDK's include folder and found that XAudio2 is the replacement for DirectSound. Both are low-level. During my research I stumbled across the XACT API, but can't find a good explanation on it. Is XACT to XAudio2 what DirectMusic was to DirectSound? By which I mean, is the XACT API a high-level, easier-to-use API for playing sounds that abstracts away the details of XAudio2? If not, what is it?

  • Math major as a viable degree

    While I realize there are many topics about CS vs software engineering vs game school programs, I haven't found anything relating to whether pure math degrees (with CS minor and electives) would also be a viable program. By this I mean: Would having a math major, CS minor put one at competitive disadvantage as compared to a pure CS program? This relates specifically to game engine programming, more on the graphics side. Background (for those who care): Currently a math major, CS minor at school and looking to land a career doing graphics engine programming. Admittedly, I love math and if at all possible would like to stay my current program as long as it doesn't put me at a competitive disadvantage trying to land a job post-graduation. That being said, I'm strong in the traditional C/C++ languages, strong concurrent programming skills, and currently produce self-made games for iOS. As an employer, how badly is the math major hurting me? Just want to get some advice from people already in the field!

    This question is part-technical, part-meta, part-subjective and very specific: I'm an indie game dev working on android, and for the past 6 months I've struggled and finally succeeded in making my own 3D game app for android. So I thought I'd hop on SO and help out others struggling with android and openGL-ES However, the vast majority of questions relate to extending GLSurfaceView. I made my whole app without extending GLSurfaceView (and it runs fine). I can't see any reason at all to extend GLSurfaceView for the majority of questions I come across. Worse, the android documentation implies that you ought to, but gives no detailed explaination of why or what the pros/cons are vs not extending and doing everything through implementing your own GLSurfaceView.Renderer as I did Still, the sheer volume of questions where the problem is purely to do with extending GLSurfaceView is making me wonder whether actually there is some really good reason for doing it that way vs the way I've been doing it (and suggesting in my answers to others to do). So, is there something I'm missing? Should I stop answering questions in the meantime? Android openGL documentation

    After installing VS 2008 on a new PC I noticed that the Autos and Locals windows did not show up when debugging. So I went to the logical place to find them View/Other Windows. No luck they were not there. I use VS every day but like a lot of folks I only need to install it every few years, usually with a new PC. So I forgot where they were. Finding them is easy, just start debugging a project and go to Debug/Windows. The Autos and Locals windows along with the others will be there.   • Accessing SQL Server data from iOS apps

    Almost all mobile apps need access to external data to be valuable. With a huge amount of existing business data residing in Microsoft SQL Server databases, and an ever-increasing drive to make more and more available to mobile users, how do you marry the rather separate worlds of Microsoft's SQL Server and Apple's iOS devices? The classic answer: write a web service layer Look at any of the questions on this topic asked in Internet discussion forums, and you'll inevitably see the answer, "just write a web service and use that!". But what does this process gain? For a well-designed database with a solid security model, and business logic in the database, writing a custom web service on top of this just to access some of the data from a different platform seems inefficient and unnecessary. Desktop applications interact with the SQL Server directly - why should mobile apps be any different? The better answer: the iSql SDK Working along the lines of "if you do something more than once, make it shared," we set about coming up with a better solution for the general case. And so the iSql SDK was born: sitting between SQL Server and your iOS apps, it provides the simple API you're used to if you've been developing desktop apps using the Microsoft SQL Native Client. It turns out a web service remained a sensible idea: HTTP is much more suited to the Big Bad Internet than SQL Server's native TDS protocol, removing the need for complex configuration, firewall configuration, and the like. However, rather than writing a web service for every app that needs data access, we made the web service generic, serving only as a proxy between the SQL Server and a client library integrated into the iPhone or iPad app. This client library handles all the network communication, and provides a clean API. OSQL in 25 lines of code As an example of how to use the API, I put together a very simple app that allowed the user to enter one or more SQL statements, and displayed the results in a rather primitively formatted text field. The total amount of Objective-C code responsible for doing the work? About 25 lines. You can see this in action in the demo video. Beta out now - your chance to give us your suggestions! Recently I have been learning Python and Django. In that getting the tutorial tasks up and running with IDLE seems very lame and outdated(I am following the Django Book). Therefore, I downloaded and configured Eclipse & PyDev. Eclipse seems good and fine but needs a bit of learning curve for itself. So, I am looking for a way to configure Visual Studio 2010 for Python and Django development if possible. Please tell me if that's possible and How ?

How has it affected your business in the following ways: Ability to launch and iterate over business driven logic Ability to have "business users" perform the actual modification of those rules rather than developers. Ability to comprehend the business rules in general. Quality of the software releases. More or less bugs from the end-user's POV? Speed of the applications.     Well, I want to learn game development, I've already know a little bit about xna, ogre and DX but, I want to choose one of them and stick with it. I'm not trying to make a "directx vs xna, ogre vs opengl, etc." thread. Some people told me that it's better to learn an engine like Ogre because you can develop games directly and you don't have to worry about the low level details, I know that. Other people told me that it's better to learn a low level api before learning something like Ogre because you will able to understand how it works. Is it valuable to have experience with Ogre or another engine but don't know anything about a low level api? What do you recommend me? Thanks in advance.

    I am wondering what are the chances of a career shifter (mid 20's), who have maybe 3-6 months programming experience vs. younger fresh IT/Com Sci graduates. You see, even though I really love programming (Java/J2EE), but nobody gives me a feedback when I apply online. maybe because they preferred IT/ComSci graduates vs a career shifter like me.. So can you advice on how to improve my chance on being hired. How can i get a real-job programming experince if nobody is hiring me. I can make my own projects (working e-commerce site blah blah) but it is still different from the real job. And my codes are working but it still needs a lot of improvement and no one can tell me how to improve it because no one sees it (because I'm doing it alone?). Do you know any open source websites (java/j2ee/jee) / online home-based jobs who accepts java/j2ee/jee trainees.. Thank you very much
