  • Are there any LIDIL documentation?

    As a part of my univercity work I have to write a program in LIDIL and describe its operators and functions but I can't find any documentation on this language. Naturally I've tried to google but nothing found on the first 40 pages of search results so I gave up. SO is my last hope. Any trace of info about LIDIL is fine for me.

  • Why was this T-SQL Syntax never implemented?

    Why did they never let us do this sort of thing: Create Proc RunParameterisedSelect @tableName varchar(100), @columnName varchar(100), @value varchar(100) as select * from @tableName where @columnName = @value You can use @value as a parameter, obviously, and you can achieve the whole thing with dynamic SQL, but creating it is invariably a pain. So why didn't they make it part of the language in some way, rather than forcing you to EXEC(@sql)?

    How do you decide on which side you perform your data manipulation when you can either do it in the code or in the query ? When you need to display a date in a specific format for example. Do you retrieve the desired format directly in the sql query or you retrieve the date then format it through the code ? What helps you to decide : performance, best practice, preference in SQL vs the code language, complexity of the task... ?

    In statistical language R, mean() and median() are standard functions which do what you'd expect. mode() tells you the internal storage mode of the R object, not the value that occurs the most in its argument. But surely there is a standard library function that implements mode for a vector (or list).

  • bottle.py on EC2 micro instance causes 2 order of magnitude slowdown

    Cross-posted from StackOverflow: I wrote a little toy script to solve this type of game, and put it on my new micro EC2 instance. It works perfectly, but while it takes around 0.5 seconds to run a local version, and takes under 0.5 seconds to run both the local and the bottle.py version on my home computer, running the bottle.py version on the EC2 instance takes over 2 minutes. Python has the cpu pegged at 99% the entire time. Only 7.4% memory usage, consistently, and no swapping. The only guess I have is initialization time for bottle.py on EC2, but if it were that, why would it be ~200x faster on my own computer with bottle.py?

  • What can you do in C without "std" includes? Are they part of "C," or just libraries?

    I apologize if this is a subjective or repeated question. It's sort of awkward to search for, so I wasn't sure what terms to include. What I'd like to know is what the basic foundation tools/functions are in C when you don't include standard libraries like stdio and stdlib. What could I do if there's no printf(), fopen(), etc? Also, are those libraries technically part of the "C" language, or are they just very useful and effectively essential libraries?

    Hi, I'd like to display some language specific characters from javascript but I can't. My app is a Java webapp and the front end is jQuery. All the characters that are sended from the server - in a JSP or with AJAX - are displayed properly. When I want to display some text hardcoded in to the javascript file it's broken. I'm using Eclipse. In the JSP's header I use: <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%> I've tried this (charset in the script element) too: <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><c:import url="/JS/mainJS.js" /></script> In my Eclipse I've set the project properties / text file encoding to UTF-8 AND I've checked the JS files' resource properties / text file encoding that is UTF-8 too.     I have Solaris machine with IP 10.10.10.100 and default getway 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 remark - solaris machine connected to cisco switch via cross cable and from switch to my laptop I configure my laptop to connect to my Solaris machine so my laptop IP is 10.10.10.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 but something not clearly I have ssh connection from my laptop to my Solaris machine ( I mean I in my solaris machine ) but from Solaris machine I can do ping to 10.10.10.1 ? ( how it can be ??? ) please advice why?

    We've all seen in-browser rich text editors, which allow you to edit colored/styled text in a WYSIWYG manner. But what about code editors, which automatically highlight code based on language rules as you type? Think Eclipse in a textarea (but without the refactoring support). Do such things exist? I imagine scaling would be a problem - larger files would be difficult to edit efficiently.
