  • Establish direct cable connection between Windows 8 PCs in home network

    I'm running two PCs, a desktop and a laptop with Windows 8 Release Preview ("Build 8400"). They are connected to the same router in infrastructure mode, thereby having wireless internet. Due to often file synchronization between the machines I want to establish a cable connection that allows direct file transfer, without needing to use the wireless. When I plug in the cable (normal, not cross-over), I see in "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections": "Ethernet - unidentified Network" on both PCs. Transferring a file between both still only uses the WiFi via the Router. I noticed that when turning off the wifi on one PC, I can set up a shared internet connection that will work via Ethernet-cable, but since sometimes only one PC runs, sometimes the other one, I do not want to have the internet of one machine to be dependent on the other one being switched on. I do not have a crossover-cable, but since I did connect the PCs already successfully (just without both being on the internet), I'm sure that this should also work with a normal ethernet cable.

    We are a manufacturing plant that runs off an ERP system written in SQL Server. I have never worked with SQL and therefore do not know the language. What I do know is that a trigger job that was running and updating data for us, is now NO longer running. Is anyone familiar enough to answer any questions about this for me??? Is there a way to pass I18n parameter into load function? google.load("jqueryui", "1.7.2") I have also tried as per jQueryUI documentation on date picker internationalization to pass: $(selector).datepicker($.datepicker.regional['pl']); ... but it did not do the trick :(

    Recently, my server's Privoxy rules to block Facebook's spying have failed. How can I block current Facebook spying links? Since soon after [the inception of Facebook's so-called “Open Graph” cross-site tracking widgets][1] (those “Like” bugs on numerous websites), I blocked them by using this rule (in user.action) on our site's Privoxy server: { +block-as-image{People-tracking button.} } .facebook.com/(plugins|widgets)/(like|fan).* That worked fine; the spying bugs no longer appeared on any web page. Today I noticed that they're all making it past that filter [edit: no, they're not]. SOLUTION: The proxy was being silently ignored, though this was not obvious in the client. The above rule continues to work fine.

  • App_GlobalResources not detected on production server

If i deploy to my dev machine, the resources are used correctly, however in the production server the text appears in the default language so the global resources are not being read. Any ideas? (i copied the App_GlobalResources directory to the production web dir root)

  • Where does abort() and terminate() "live"?

    Regarding the terminate handler, As i understand it, when something bad happens in code, for example when we dont catch an exception, terminate() is called, which in turn calls abort() set_terminate(my_function) allows us to get terminate() to call a user specified function my_terminate. my question is: where do these functions "live" they don't seem to be a part of the language, but work as if they are present in every single cpp file, without having to include any header file.

    With jquery it's very easy to insert some element inside another element using the selector technology, I am wondering if there is any python library that can do things similar with jquery, the reason is I want server side python program to produce the static pages, which needs to parse the html and insert something into it.   • Are there localization tools which spot content strings in xaml/wpf?

    When globalizing a wpf application with static resx classes, it's very easy to miss the odd label or button that has its Content property set to a hard coded string in a particular language, ie English. These should of course be moved off to a {x:Static ...} so they can be localised for each culture. Are there any tools which can spot this and warn you? Built in to VS would be ideal, but I'm thinking that 'style cop' type build tools would do the job as well.
