• How To: Referencing LAPACK library from FORTRAN 95 in Cygwin

  I have a FORTRAN 95 program that needs to make some calls to the LAPACK library. I recently found out that Cygwin because it can install LAPACK as an extra option. Well, LAPACK exists in the /lib/lapack/ directory as "cyglapack.dll". Having only a very informal training in Fortran programming, I have no idea how to reference a .dll library as opposed to a .mod module. Any suggestions or directions to articles answering my question are GREATLY appreciated! (P.S. I did search first.. I don't think I know the proper terms to get a useful article.)

  Hello, The following Oracle statement: DECLARE ID NUMBER; BEGIN UPDATE myusername.terrainMap SET playerID = :playerID,tileLayout = :tileLayout WHERE ID = :ID END; Gives me the following error: ORA-06550: line 6, column 15: PL/SQL: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended ORA-06550: line 3, column 19: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored ORA-06550: line 6, column 18: PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "end-of-file" when expecting one of the following: ( begin case declare end exception exit for goto if loop mod null pragma raise return select update while with <an identifier> <a double-quoted> I am pretty much at a loss. This appears to be a rather simple statement. If it helps any, I had a similar statement that performed an INSERT which used to work, but today has been giving me the same message.

• JS and CSS caching issue: possibly .htaccess related

  I've been using the HTML5 Boilerplate for some web projects for a while now and have noticed the following issue cropping up on some sites. My CSS and JS files, when loaded by the browser, are being renamed to things like: ce.52b8fd529e8142bdb6c4f9e7f55aaec0.modernizr-1,o7,omin,l.js …in the case of modernizr-1.7.min.js The pattern always seems to add ce. or cc. in front of the filename. I'm not sure what's causing this, and it's frustrating since when I make updates to those files, the same old cached file is being loaded. I have to explicitly call modernizr-1.7.min.js?v=2 or something similar to get it to re-cache. I'd like to scrap it altogether but it still happens even when .htaccess is empty. Any ideas? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

• Using Connection Based State with Apache2

  I am writing an HTTPS based application using Apache2 as the web server, and python as the language (not sure which framework or Apache2 mod yet). After clients (which are not web browsers) first establish an HTTPS connection to the server, they are expected to send an authentication message. If authentication is successful, they are able to send more commands, until the connection is closed (HTTP 1.1 will be used, with a long keep alive time). My question is, is it possible to have state associated with the connection? I don't want the client to have to send cookies or session ids -- the HTTPS application should be able to figure out the session based on the connection that each request belongs to...the question is how?

• Executing Shell Commands - PHP or Python?

  I know basically two languages: Python and PHP. I am primarily a Drupal developer. I have a great idea in creating a command line program that will help some of the mundane tasks and bring my efficiency up quite a bit. The concept is that of a complete console program, almost like the days when I learned C++ using stdin/out. I want to use this came concept but for this program. I am going to be executing shell commands (mainly drush commands, if you are familiar with drush its drupals way of doing tasks like installing drupal, clearing cache, and other things). I am also wanting to do a database and save/execute through multiple objects and site profiles. My general question is this. Which language would be better suited to handle command line code? Drupal is written in PHP so I am leaned more towards that,but I know python seems to handle console programming a bit easier. Any help would be great!

• Parsing google site speed in analytics

  I'm having a hard time making heads or tails of the Site Speed graphs in Google Analytics. Our site speed is fluctuating wildly from month to month, despite a large sample (the report is "based on 100,000's of visits) and a consistent web set up (static files served from an EC2 instance running nginx behind a load balancer). Here's our site speed, with each datapoint representing a week worth of data. Over this time period we modified our source and HTTP headers to increase our cache hits on static resources by 5x. Why would it fluctuate so much? Is there any way to get more reliable information from those graphs?

• Row Count Plus Transformation

  As the name suggests we have taken the current Row Count Transform that is provided by Microsoft in the Integration Services toolbox and we have recreated the functionality and extended upon it. There are two things about the current version that we thought could do with cleaning up Lack of a custom UI You have to type the variable name yourself In the Row Count Plus Transformation we solve these issues for you. Another thing we thought was missing is the ability to calculate the time taken between components in the pipeline. An example usage would be that you want to know how many rows flowed between Component A and Component B and how long it took. Again we have solved this issue. Credit must go to Erik Veerman of Solid Quality Learning for the idea behind noting the duration. We were looking at one of his packages and saw that he was doing something very similar but he was using a Script Component as a transformation. Our philosophy is that if you have to write or Copy and Paste the same piece of code more than once then you should be thinking about a custom component and here it is. The Row Count Plus Transformation populates variables with the values returned from; Counting the rows that have flowed through the path Returning the time in seconds between when it first saw a row come down this path and when it saw the final row. It is possible to leave both these boxes blank and the component will still work.   All input columns are passed through the transformation unaltered, you are not permitted to change or add to the inputs or outputs of this component. Optionally you can set the component to fire an event, which happens during the PostExecute phase of the execution. This can be useful to improve visibility of this information, such that it is captured in package logging, or can be used to drive workflow in the case of an error event. Properties Property Data Type Description OutputRowCountVariable String The name of the variable into which the amount of row read will be passed (Optional). OutputDurationVariable String The name of the variable into which the duration in seconds will be passed. (Optional). EventType RowCountPlusTransform.EventType The type of event to fire during post execute, included in which are the row count and duration values. Installation The component is provided as an MSI file which you can download and run to install it. This simply places the files on disk in the correct locations and also installs the assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache as per Microsoft’s recommendations. You may need to restart the SQL Server Integration Services service, as this caches information about what components are installed, as well as restarting any open instances of Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) / Visual Studio that you may be using to build your SSIS packages. For 2005/2008 Only - Finally you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the Row Count Plus Transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component? We recommend you follow best practice and apply the current Microsoft SQL Server Service pack to your SQL Server servers and workstations, and this component requires a minimum of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1.   I’m going back to speak in St. Louis next month.  I didn’t make it last year and I’m looking forward to it.  You can find additional details on the St. Louis SQL Server user group web site.  The meeting will be held at the Microsoft office and I’ll be speaking at 1PM. I’ll be speaking on the procedure cache.  As people get better and better tuning queries this is the next major piece to understand.  We’ll talk about how and when query plans are reused.  The most common issue I see around odd query plans are stored procedures that use one query plan but the queries run completely different when you extract the SQL and hard code the parameters.  That’s just one of the common issues that I’ll address. There will be a second speaker after I’m done, then a short vendor presentation and a drawing for a netbook.

  I am working on a basic shell interpreter to familiarize myself with Rust. • What is the significance of '*' (star, asterisk) in the file listing results?

  I have noticed that some of my files have an asterisk at end. Does the asterisk at the end have any particular significance? I think they are mostly executable and displayed in green by the ls command. You will see that ./bkmp* and ./bkmp0* have an asterisk at the end. They are executable bash scripts. • Adding a DLL to the GAC in Windows 7

  I recently created a DLL and I wanted to reference it from a project I was developing in Visual Studio.  In previous versions of Windows, doing so was simply a matter of dropping the DLL file in the C:\Windows\assembly folder.  That would add the DLL to the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) and make it accessible in Visual Studio.  However, as is often the case, Window 7 is different.  Even if you have Administrator privileges on your machine, you still do not have permission to drop a file in the assembly folder.  Undaunted, I thought about using the old DOS command line utility gacutil.exe.  Microsoft developed the tool as part of the .Net framework, and it is available in the Windows SDK Framework Tools.  If you have never used gacutil.exe before, you can find out everything you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ex0ss12c(v=vs.80).aspx .  Unfortunately, if you do not have the Windows SDK loaded on your development machine, you will need to install it to use gacutil, but it is relatively quick and painless, and the framework tools are very useful.  Look here for your latest SDK: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/search.aspx?q=Windows%20SDK .   After installing the SDK, I tried installing my DLL to the GAC by running gacutil from a DOS command line: That’s odd.  Microsoft is shipping a tool that cannot be executed even with Administrator rights?  Let me stop here and say that I am by no means a Windows security expert, so I actually did contact my system administrators, and they were not sure how to fix the problem….there must be a super administrator access level, but it isn’t available to your average developer in my company.  The solution outlined here is working within the boundaries of a normal windows Administrator. So, now the hacker in me bubbles to the surface.  What if I were to create a simple BAT file containing the gacutil command?  It’s so crazy it just might work!  Ugh!  I was starting to think this would never work, but then I realized that simply executing a batch program did not change my level of access.  Typically in Windows 7, you would select the “Run As Administrator” option to temporarily act as an administrator for the purpose of executing a process.  However, that option is not available for BAT files run from the command line.  SOLUTION: Create a desktop shortcut to execute the BAT file, which in turn will execute the line command…..are you still with me?  I created a shortcut and pointed it to my batch file.  Theoretically, all I need to do now is right-click on the shortcut and select “Run As Administrator” and we’re good, right?  Well, kinda.  If you notice the syntax of my BAT file, the name of the DLL is passed in as a parameter.  Therefore, I either have to hard-code the file name in the BAT program (YUCK!!), or I can leave the parameter and drag the DLL file to the shortcut and drop it.  Sweet, drag-and-drop works for me…..but if I use the drag-and-drop method, there is no way for me to right-click and select “Run As Administrator”.  That is not a problem…..I simply have to adjust the properties of the shortcut I created and I am in business.  I Right-clicked on the shortcut and select “Properties”.  Under the “Shortcut” tab there is an “Advanced” button…..I clicked it. All I needed to do was check the “Run As Administrator” box: In summary, what I have done is create a BAT file to execute a command line utility, gacutil.exe.  Then, rather than executing the BAT file from the command line, I created a desktop shortcut to run it and set the shortcut properties to “Run As Administrator”.  This will effectively mean I am executing the command line utility with Administrator privileges.  Pretty sneaky. Now, when I drag the DLL file  over to the shortcut, it starts the BAT file and adds the DLL to the assembly cache.  I created another BAT file to remove a DLL from the GAC in case the need should arise.  The code for that is: Give it a try.  I can’t imagine why updating the GAC has been made into such a chore in Windows 7.  Hopefully there is a service pack in the works that will give developers the functionality they had in Windows XP, but in the meantime, this workaround is extremely useful.

• VC7.1 C1204 internal compiler error

  I'm working on modifying Firaxis' Civilization 4 core game DLL. The host application is built using VC7, hence the constraint (source not provided for the host EXE). I've been working on rewriting a large chunk of the code (focusing on low-hanging performance issues & memory leaks). I recently ran into an internal compiler error when trying to mod the code to use an array class instead of dynamically allocated 2-d arrays, I was going to use matrices from the boost lib (Civ4 is already using boost, so why not?). Basically, the issue comes down to: if I include "boost/numeric/ublas/matrix.hpp", I run into an internal compiler error C1204. MSDN has this to say: MSDN C1204 KB has this to say: KB 883655 So, I'm curious, is it possible to solve this error without a KB/SP being applied and dramatically reducing the complexity of the code? Additionally, as VC7 is no longer "supported", does anyone have a valid (supported) link for a VC7 service pack?

  Many of my visitors have bookmarked my site already wtih https://mydomain.com. Under the bad advice of a programmer, I put my whole Joomla site under ssl. I do not sell anything or provide any member services. I asked him many times if it would slow my site down - he said it wouldn't. I knew it did, I've researched on this site and realized it does slow the site down because of no cache of the pages. Understood. Please, someone tell me how to get away from it now. I'm not sure how to approach this, should I add something to my htaccess or my main index.php file? I've looked all over the net, there is much advice for adding redirectives for going from http to https, but very few answers regarding the opposite of going from https to http. Thank you very much for your time. I appreciate it.

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 today on my Lenovo w500. After that when i tried running sudo apt-get update This is the error i am getting. I found the following similar question : Errors while updating Ubuntu 11.10 , But the solutions mentioned ( changing the download server, running apt-get clean, apt-get autoclean) and have also tried removing the /var/cache/apt/archives/lists direcotry. As a result of this, I am unable to install any new packages.

• apt changelog for to-be installed packages

  GUI update-manager is able to show the "changelog" of packages to-be installed (not downloaded yet). I also found out how to provide the .changelog files in the right place for update-manager to show them, and now I'm happy since I'm able to tell my clients that they can see changelogs of my custom packages directly from their gui. Unfortunately I'm not able to find any command line tool to do the same thing and that would be more useful on servers. From what I saw it seems that this convention (putting .changelog files directly alongside the .deb files in the apt repo) is a ubuntu specific extension. There are some debian resources (the reprepro man page for example) which point on a different way to store changelogs online, http://packages.debian.org/changelogs Does anybody know if there already exists a tool like apt-cache to show the changelogs from packages which are not yet installed (nor downloaded) ?

  I'm on a Compaq 615 and it's fan is loud as hell. Not much you can do about that but I'm trying to keep the CPU/GPU as cool as possible.   I am looking for some books, articles or tutorials about graphics architecture and graphics pipeline optimizations. It shouldn't be too old (2008 or newer) - the newer, the better. I have found something in [Optimising the Graphics Pipeline, NVIDIA, Koji Ashida] - too old, [Real-time rendering, Akenine Moller], [OpenGL Bindless Extensions, NVIDIA, Jeff Bolz], [Efficient multifragment effects on graphics processing units, Louis Frederic Bavoil] and some internet discussions. But there is not too much information and I want to read more. It should contain something about application, driver, memory and shader units communication and data transfers. About vertices and attributes. Also pre and post T&L cache (if they still exist in nowadays architectures) etc. I don't need anything about textures, frame buffers and rasterization. It can also be about OpenGL (not about DirecX) and optimizing extensions (not old extensions like VBOs, but newer like vertex_buffer_unified_memory).

• Does an onboard video affect the X windows configuration?

  Does the onboard video on the motherboard affect the X windows configuration? My system has onboard and pcie video. The onboard video is a NVIDIA GeForce 7025 GPU, On Board Graphic Max. Memory Share Up to 512MB(Under OS By Turbo Cache). I have a pcie dual head video card installed with two monitors. The video card is a GeForce 8400 GS, with 512mb memory. When installing Ubuntu 12.04, only one monitor worked. When pulling up system settings- Displays it shows a laptop. This is a desktop pc. I did get both monitors to work using nvidia using twinview -- A complicated process! When checking nvidia now it shows the monitors disabled. The Nvidia X server setting does show the GPU and all the information. I was thinking it's seeing the onboard video on the motherboard. Why else would it show laptop?
