  • Can I assume Flash and PHP will generate the same floating point numbers?

    In a multiplayer game I'm developing, we have a few values that are floating point numbers. The back-end (in PHP) and the front-end (in Flash) occasionally perform the same calculations on these numbers, to minimize communication. I am currently making sure that both sides are using 64-bit doubles, but am I safe to assume that all calculations will be the same? For instance, what about string to float conversion - should I worry about Flash having a potentially different implementation as PHP? (If this happens, our game will go out of sync - the client will think it is in one state while the server is in another) With some testing, it appears to be the same, but I'm just not sure. Can someone clarify this for me?

  • How do I give PHP write access to a directory?

    I'm trying to use PHP to create a file, but it isn't working. I am assuming this is because it doesn't have write access (it's always been the problem before). I tried to test if this was the problem by making the folder chmod 0777, but that just ended up making every script in that directory return a 500 error message until I changed it back. How do I give PHP write access to my file system so it can a create a file? Edit: It is hosted on Hostgator shared hosting using Apache.

I know it isnt necessary written that you must do it like this but there's gotta be some normal practises.... class names - camelcase? underscores? class files - same as class? url/post/get controll name - router.php? any other things i should be aware of before i embark?

  • possible to show composition relationship in a diagram generated from PHP source code?

    i have tested several UML applications for whether they could show composition relationships in the UML diagrams generated form the PHP source code or not, and the result is they can't. i know that this is a typical problem for PHP cause we don't declare a data type when we code, so it's difficult for the UML applications to know if an instance variable is a reference to an object or not. i also tested nWire with the same result. will there never be applications that could show us a complete map over all object relationships more than just inheritance? i think it's a pity that you can't have a good view over all the relationships for an application. cause when i use an open source solution, i always want to know how the objects are related to each other. maybe we could make comments for the instance variable telling the software that this is an reference to an object? but that would mean that the mapping software is using this solution. i feel its a pity nWire/visual paradigm can't give us a complete map:(

  • Optimum php.ini and my.cnf settings for a small Drupal 7 site on a virtual server

    I looking for advice on how to set up the default configuration of php.ini and my.cnf for a small site (100 pages) with very little traffic (300 visitors per day). All pages have a bit of text, some images, no video, no audio, no flash/silverlight, very little javascript and jquery. For tracking I'm using GA and Piwik. The main site database is around 50MB. The site is hosted on a virtual server with 20GB RAM and 6 vCPUs so there's hopefully a lot of muscle to make it run very fast. I don't know much about tweaking php and mysql settings and would appreciate it if your answers can be as detailed as possible. Thanks

    I am using S3 to store images and I am resizing and compressing images before it gets uploaded using PHP. I'm using this class for storing the images to an S3 bucket - http://undesigned.org.za/2007/10/22/amazon-s3-php-class This all works fine if I'm not doing any file processing before the file is uploaded because it reads the file upload from the $_FILES array. The problem is I am resizing and compressing the image before storing to the S3 bucket. So I'm no longer able to read from the $_FILES array.     I am trying to integrate my custom user system with Wordpress, and I have recently asked a question on how to redirect requests to wp-login.php to my own login/registration page, but as I was working on the pluggable functions, I realized that requests to wp-login.php can either be for login, registration, or log out. This is set in the action argument that's made in the request. What I am trying to figure out is how to get this action argument, so I can redirect the request to my custom pages.     I receive many emails whose contents are of the same pattern, e.g. Name: XXX Phone: XXX Bio: XXX ...... I want to write a PHP script to parse these emails and save the data into a database. I tried to use file_get_contents() to get the contents of these emails. The problem is that, it requires authentication to access to my emails. Even though I have signed into my email account on the server (localhost actually), file_get_contents() still return the webpage that prompts me to sign in. So how to access the contents of my emails with a PHP script? EDIT: it is a gmail account.

I mean I say to it: I want Users to have ID, SpecialNumber and Name Flilds. and I want to get from it class for table generation (to call it once) and class containing methods such as Search by ID, SpecialNumber and Name, Create User, Delit User and so on functions. Is there any framework/cms like this for working with CODE not ui's and so on... so to say PHP generator or something... The result should be as that framework free as possible. At client-side i'd like to send object just passing it in ajax function, without being forced to wrap it in an object literal like this: {'person' : person}. For the same reasons, at server-side i'd like to manage objects without the binding of $_GET['person'] or $_POST['person']. For example: var person = { 'name' : 'John', 'lastName' : 'Doe', 'age' : 32, 'married' : true } sendAjaxRequest(person); in php, using: $person = json_decode(file_get_contents("php://input")); i can get easily the object, but only with POST format, not in GET. Any suggestions?
