• UnknownHostException again!

  Hello, I posted one question previously and all of them answered that there is some problem with DNS but i changed my DNS to many addressed and now i have the most reliable, google DNS :- 8.8.8.8 Still i get the same UnknownHostException. What can be the problem? This is my code :- DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc = db.parse("http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/india"); Infact if i pass address as something very common like :- http://google.com i still get the same error. Please help me :(. I have my submissions tomorrow. Thanks in advance :) EDIT : If i type the same address in my mozilla, it works great. So, i am sure that there is no DNS problem. 2nd EDIT :- I found this link http://www.ehow.com/how_4747553_fix-unknownhostexception-java-applications-ubuntu.html But when i run the command sudo apt-get install lib32nss-mdns i get package not found. • Best way to store this data?

  I have just been assigned to renovate an old website, and I get to move it from some old archaic system to drupal. The only problem is that it's a real-estate system and a lot of data is stored. Currently all the information is stored in a single table, an id represents the house and then everything else is key/value pairs. There are a possible 243 keys per estate, there are 23840 estates in the system. As you can imagine the system is slow and difficult to query. I don't think a table with 243 rows would be a very good idea, and probably worse than the current situation. I've done some investigating and here's what I've found out: Missing data does not indicate a 0 value, data is merged from two, unique sources/formats. Some guessing is involved. I have no control over the source of the data. There are 4 keys that are common to all estates, all values look like something that is commonly searched for and could be indexed There are 10 keys that are in the [90-100)% range 8 of these are information like who's selling it, and it's address. The other two seem to belong with the below range There are 80 keys that are in the [80-90)% range This range seems to mostly just list room types and how many the house has (e.g. bedrooms_possible, bathrooms, family_room_3rd, etc) This range also includes some minor information like school districts, one or two more pieces of data on the address. The 179 keys that are in the [0-80)% range include all sorts of miscellaneous information about the estate My best idea was a hybrid approach, create a table that stores important, common information and keep a smaller key/value table. How would you store this information?

  I usually use JSON with jQuery to just return a string with html. However, I want to start to use Javascript objects in my code. What's the simplest way to get started using json objects on my page? When one of those customers are clicked, the customer id gets sent to a webservice which retrieves the customer details that are relevant to a sales person. I know the SO talent pool is quite deep so I figured you all here would be able to guide in the right direction and give me a few ideas on the best way to approach this.

• C#: Hijacking a near relative call

  Alright, I'm trying to write a vary basic modification to a program NOT written by me. I DO NOT have the source to it. I also do not care if this only works for a single version of the program, so hard coding offsets is feasible. • Socket send recv functions

Now i change the value of the socket i get like this m_Socket++; Even now the send recv socket functions succeeds without throwing SOCKET_ERROR. I expect that it must throw error. • session_set_cookie_params on multi-domain sites

  Hi! I'm currently developing for an application (www.domain.se, .eu) where we're experiencing problems with sessions not propagating across domains. Internet Explorer is the root cause of this, as it will differentiate sessions depending on whether we're typing in "domain.se" or "www.domain.se". Due to some unfortunate redirecting, we're not able to keep the user on the same address the user typed in, instead we're always redirecting to www.domain.se on login. Needless to say, IE users can not login when typing "domain.se". To make this error go away, we implemented a function to try and set the session to be valid across all possible domains by doing the following: if($_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] == "domain.se") { session_set_cookie_params(3600, '/', '.domain.se', true); } There are basically a few if:s that we go through depending on what address the user typed in, but the third argument stays the same. This, however, results in no-one being able to log in, regardless of domain. I've tried reading up on how session_set_cookie_params() works but to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated!

• Building html structure in php or javascript?

  I've been doing a lot of ajax calls and using the returned data to build html with javascript. However, I've noticed some people are returning the constructed html in the ajax calls since they're doing it all in php. What is the preferred method? I have a bunch of stuff already using javascript, so I guess I would prefer not changing everything to use just php. But, I'm assuming php would be more "secure."? • How to check of which user-defined type a current JSON element is during $.each()?

I want to plot them all on my map, but I want to give condos and houses different marker icons( blue marker for condos, green marker for houses ). Problem I have is - figuring out how to distinguish between types of markers when I $.each() through them. • (iphone) How to access CGRect member variable inside c++ class?

I printed *childPtr just before the call and rect looks fine with intended data value. int index = childPtr->GetIndex(); from same object c code(*.mm), works fine though. Any idea why I'm getting segfaults? Thank you edit - It's got something to do with virtual functions. () Cannot access memory at address 0x1 The program being debugged was signaled while in a function called from GDB. GDB remains in the frame where the signal was received. To change this behavior use "set unwindonsignal on" Evaluation of the expression containing the function (at 0x1) will be abandoned. (gdb) Somehow, the function is not properly compiled?

• Too Much Swapping, even though RAM is 2/3 Empty

  I have a VPS with 9GB RAM, 300GB HDD, 3 GB Swap, 7 Cores. The OS is CentOS 5.7 Final. I have postgres9.0 running on my machine, with proper tuning done (at least by book/wiki of PostgreSQL). What happens is most of the times when some complex query run (by complex I mean select with maximum 3 Joins), eventhough 66% of my RAM is unused there is ~99% swapping is happening. Plus it screws up my disk IO which is most of the time reaching ~100% and slows down everything else. (I tend to believe something's wrong with my disk.) I dont understand the reason of this much of swapping happening. Is it because of context switching?? Most of the time my processors are idle, while the IO wait goes upto 30% during pick times. Would appreciate if some can shed some light on it. Thanks.

• Is there such a thing as a MemberExpression that handles a many-to-many relationship?

  We're trying to make it easy to write strongly-typed code in all areas of our system, so rather than setting var sortColumn = "FirstName" we'd like to say sortOption = (p => p.FirstName). This works great if the sortOption is of type Expression<Func<Person, object>> (we actually use generics in our code but that doesn't matter). However, we run into problems for many-to-many relationships because this notation breaks down. Consider this simple code: internal class Business { public IQueryable<Address> Addresses { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } internal class Address { public State MyState { get; set; } } internal class State { public string Abbreviation { get; set; } public int StateID { get; set; } } Is it possible to have this sort of MemberExpression to identify the StateID column off of a business? Again, the purpose of using this is not to return a StateID object, it's to just identify that property off of that entity (for sorting, filtering, and other purposes). It SEEMS to me that there should be some way to do this, even if it's not quite as pretty as foo = business.Addresses.SomeExtension(a => a.State.StateID);. Is this really possible? If more background is needed, take a look at this old question of mine. We've since updated the code significantly, but this should give you the general detailed idea of the context behind this question.

• How can 2 or more instances of the same program to communicate in local network?

  I want to create program which will be in use for few computers connected in local network. Basically the program aim is to keep track of all tables in a bar ( lets say ), which are reserved. When some user book a table as reserved the program should broadcast the table number to all other Pc's and mark the table as reserved. Since all computers use the same program, how is possible to create communication between all of them ? Should i use sockets to achieve this? If it matters, all of the computers have installed Linux OS,and the app will be developed in ruby,perl or php. Thank you.

• Assigning jQuery ajax response text to variable constanty returns null

  Hi all, hopefully one of you on this great site can help. I'm having issues with assigning a variable to a jQuery ajax call response text. I have a form which when submited runs my "checkemail" function to varify the email address can be found in a database. If it's found, the responseText == "true", else "false". • How is an array stored in memory?

  In an interest to delve deeper into how memory is allocated and stored, I have written an application that can scan memory address space, find a value, and write out a new value. I developed a sample application with the end goal to be able to programatically locate my array, and overwrite it with a new sequence of numbers. In this situation, I created a single dimensional array, with 5 elements, e.g. int[] array = new int[] {8,7,6,5,4}; I ran my application and searched for a sequence of the five numbers above. I was looking for any value that fell between 4 and 8, for a total of 5 numbers in a row. Unforuntately, my the sequential numbers in my array matched hundreds of results, as the numbers 4 through 8, in no particular sequence happened to be next to each other, in memory, in many situations. Is there any way to distinguish that a set of numbers within memory, represents an array, not simply integers that are next to each other? Is there any way of knowing that if I find a certain value, that the matching values proceeding it are that of an array? I would assume that when I declare int[] array, its pointing at the first address of my array, which would provide some kind of meta-data to what existed in the array, e.g. 0x123456789 meta-data, 5 - 32 bit integers 0x123456789 + 32 "8" 0x123456789 + 64 "7" 0x123456789 + 96 "6" 0x123456789 + 128 "5" 0x123456789 + 160 "4" Am I way off base?

  Hi all, I"m having some problems with Nhibernate and native sql. I've got an entity with alot of collections and I am doing an SQL Fulltext search on it. So when returning 100 or so entities, I dont want all collections be lazy loaded. In this case I thought I could use the DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer. var items = GetCurrentSession() .CreateSQLQuery(query) .AddEntity("spr", typeof(Customer)) .AddJoin("adr", "spr.addresses") .AddJoin("adrt", "adr.Type") .AddJoin("cty", "adr.City") .AddJoin("com", "spr.communicationItems") .AddJoin("comt", "com.Type") .SetResultTransformer(new DistinctRootEntityResultTransformer()) .List<Customer>(); Doing so an exception is thrown. This is because I try to list customers .List<Customer>() but the transformer returns only entities of the last join added. E.g. in the case above, the entity with alias "comt" is returned when doing .List() instead of .List(). If I would switch last join with the join alias "cty", then the transformer returns a list of cities only... Anyone knows how I can return a clean list of customers in this case?

• Memory interleaving

  Hello, I have this question that has me rather confused. Suppose that a 1G x 32-bit main memory is built using 256M x 4-bit RAM chips and that this memory is byte-addressable. I have deduced that one would require 4*1G = 2^2*2*30 = 2^32 - so 32 bits to address the full memory. My problem now comes with, say, if you had memory (byte) address "14", determine which memory module this would go into. (There would have to be 8 chips per module to make the 32-bit wide memory, and 4 modules overall giving 32 chips in total. Modules are numbered from 0). In high-order interleave, it appears trivial that it's the first (0) memory module given a lot of the first few bits are 0. However, low-order interleave has me stumped. I can't figure out (for sure) how many bits are used to determine a memory module (possibly 2, given there are 4 in total?). The given solution is Module 3. This is not homework in the same sense so I will not be tagging it as such.

• cakephp find('list') - problem using

  I'm trying to get an array to poplulate a Counties select. If I use find('all') I can get the data but this array needs flattening to use in the view with $form-input($counties). If I use find('list') I can't seem to get the right array - which is simple array of county names. What I have tried is this: $ops=array( 'conditions' => array( 'display' => '!=0', 'TO_DAYS(event_finish) >= TO_DAYS(NOW())' ), 'fields' => 'DISTINCT venue_county', 'order' => 'venue_county DESC' ); $this->set('counties', $this->Event->find('list',$ops)); but the SQL this generates is: SELECT Event.id, DISTINCT Event.venue_county FROM events AS Event WHERE display = 1 AND TO_DAYS(event_finish) = TO_DAYS(NOW()) ORDER BY venue_county DESC which generates an error because it first inserts the Event.id field in the query - which is not wanted and causes the error. In my database I have a single table for Events which includes the venue address and I don't really want to create another table for address. What options should I be using efor the find('list') call?

• Copy not null and not empty fields from one object to another object of the same type(Objects are same type) in java

  I am using hibernate, struts, extjs in my project. I have a Customer object with these fields: custId, custName, address, phone and in my project from UI side I get an object customer with custName. So I need to update the above object(custName is unique). I have only one object with the same customer name. So I will get that object using customer name (object from DB). Now I have to save the object with the updated customer name. If I save as follows I have Customer Object from UI, is cust Customer cust1 = getCustomerByName(cust.getCustName()); cust.setCustId(cust1.getCustId()); save(cust); If I do this I lose the customer address and phone number. So, how can I copy one object not null or not empty field values to another object of same type. Can any one please help. I just stuck here. It's stopping me to save. Thanks in advance!

• Windows service: Listening on socket while running as LocalSystem

  I'm writing a small server-like program in C for Windows (using MinGW/GCC, testing on Windows 7) which is eventually supposed to run as a service with the LocalSystem account. I am creating a socket, and using Windows Sockets bind(), listen() and accept() to listen for incoming connections. If I run the application from the command line (i.e. not as a service, but as a normal user), I have no problems connecting to it from external IPs. However, if I run the program as a service with the LocalSystem account, I can only connect to the service from my own PC, either with 127.0.0.1 or my local address, 192.168.1.80 (I'm behind a router in a small local network). Neither external IPs nor other PCs in the same local network, using my local address, can connect now, even though there were no problems without running as a service. Now, I've heard that networking is handled differently or even not accessible (?) when running as LocalSystem or LocalService or that services cannot access both the desktop and the network (note: my service is not interactive) at the same time due to security considerations. Essentially, I need to find out what's going wrong/how to listen for connections in a service. Is running as NetworkService the same as running as LocalSystem, but with network access? Surely there must be servers that can run as background services, so how do they do it?

• What is the best way to browse the web safely? [closed]

  At the recent pwnown we saw every single browser, from IE to Chrome, miserably hacked. That scares me. How should we browse the Internet safely but continuing to enjoy it? (using lynx is not an option) Virtual machines? Different users with non-administrative privileges? Keep the work and "Facebook" on 2 separate machines? (or on 2 hard disks, invisible each other?) I think that they should write a book on the matter.

• How can pointers to functions point to something that doesn't exist in memory yet? Why do prototypes have different addresses?

  To my knowledge, functions do not get added to the stack until run-time after they are called in the main function. So how can a pointer to a function have a function's memory address if it doesn't exist in memory? For example: using namespace std; #include <iostream> void func() { } int main() { void (*ptr)() = func; cout << reinterpret_cast<void*>(ptr) << endl; //prints 0x8048644 even though func never gets added to the stack } Also, this next question is a little less important to me, so if you only know the answer to my first question, then that is fine. But anyway, why does the value of the pointer ( the memory address of the function ) differ when I declare a function prototype and implement the function after main? In the first example, it printed out 0x8048644 no matter how many times I ran the program. In the next example, it printed out 0x8048680 no matter how many times I ran the program. • PHP PDO changes remote host to local hostname

  I'm trying to connect to a remote mysql server using PDO. However, regardless of the hostname or ip address i supply in the dsn, when the script is run it always reverts the address to the hostname of the local server where the webserver is running. Google suggests this could be something to do with SELinux and apaches ability to connect to remote databases, however i have SELinux disabled. Distro: Ubuntu 11.04 x64 Apache version: 2.2.17 PHP Version: PHP 5.3.5-1ubuntu7.11 with Suhosin-Patch (cli) Edit: Added code as requested. • How to check whether a default browser is opened in the operating system (Java)?

  Hi, I am newbie here. During my work, I faced an interesting problem. I need to: check whether a default html browser is opened; check whether the browser is minimized/maximized (simply, a window's state); get an url address typed in the browser. If any of these conditions is not met, I have to open the browser in a maximized view with a desired url address. I primarily wanted to do all this in Java, but it came to my mind that I should employ many techniques/technologies and combine them appropriately to complete the functionality. But, which ones? That's the problem. I just recalled Windows API, but I'm not sure if it is of any help... Some users on another forum suggested that I should consider JNI (no experience at all)... I only know how to open a default browser (e.g. with use of the 'browse(URI uri)' method of the 'java.awt.Desktop' class) - that's too little to be proud of. Please give me some hints, maybe links to reasonable discussions, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions how to approach the problem.

• Another C++ question, delete not working?

  New to c++, and am having a problem with delete and destructor (I am sure i am making a stupid mistake here, but haven't been able to figure it out as of yet). When i step through into the destructor, and attepmt to call delete on a pointer, the message shows up "Cannot access memory at address some address."
