• Recommended design pattern for object with optional and modifiable attributtes? [on hold]

  I've been using the Builder pattern to create objects with a large number of attributes, where most of them are optional. But up until now, I've defined them as final, as recommended by Joshua Block and other authors, and haven't needed to change their values. I am wondering what should I do though if I need a class with a substantial number of optional but non-final (mutable) attributes? My Builder pattern code looks like this: public class Example { //All possible parameters (optional or not) private final int param1; private final int param2; //Builder class public static class Builder { private final int param1; //Required parameters private int param2 = 0; //Optional parameters - initialized to default //Builder constructor public Builder (int param1) { this.param1 = param1; } //Setter-like methods for optional parameters public Builder param2(int value) { param2 = value; return this; } //build() method public Example build() { return new Example(this); } } //Private constructor private Example(Builder builder) { param1 = builder.param1; param2 = builder.param2; } } Can I just remove the final keyword from the declaration to be able to access the attributes externally (through normal setters, for example)? • Should the 12-String be in it's own class and why?

  This question is regarding a homework project in my first Java programming class (online program). The assignment is to create a "stringed instrument" class using (among other things) an array of String names representing instrument string names ("A", "E", etc). The idea for the 12-string is beyond the scope of the assignment (it doesn't have to be included at all) but now that I've thought of it, I want to figure out how to make it work. Part of me feels like the 12-String should have it's own class, but another part of me feels that it should be in the guitar class because it's a guitar. I suppose this will become clear as I progress but I thought I would see what kind of response I get here. Also, why would they ask for a String[] for the instrument string names? Seems like a char[] makes more sense. Thank you for any insight.   I am currently working on a hibernate project(EJB and JSF), and i have multiple java classes. The data of parent is being change in the front end with JSF, however, it is not updating in the child class. Any idea as to what could be causing this?   I have a couple of mini-classes that are not nested classes. They need to be passed around between different larger classes to use. In a way, they act like Tuples, storing fields in them. • How to read from path in wpf comboboxitem and write into path of binding

  Hi, I tried to make up an example to show my problem. My combobox has a list of objects as itemssource. In my example it's a list of Persons. In the combobox i want to show the first name and the last name of the person. But i want to save the last name of the person in the "owner" property of the house-object. My guess was that i bind the SelectedValue to my property and the SelectedValuePath to the name of the property in the comboboxitem. I already googled and tried a view other versions but nothing worked. If i use SelectedItem instead of SelectedValue with the same binding at least the value of the "tostring" function get's written in the property. Sadly that solution doesn't fit in the Rest of my Program because i don't want to override "ToString". • Button click does not start Service in Android App Widget

  I'm having trouble starting a Service to update an AppWidget that I'm creating as an exercise. I'm trying to get the latitude and longitude of spoofed location data from DDMS to display in the widget. The widget uses a service to update the TextView, which may be slightly overkill, but I wanted to follow the template that seems to be common in AppWidgets that do more work (like the Forecast widget or the Wiktionary widget). Right now, I'm not getting any error messages or strange behavior; nothing at all happens when the button is pressed. I'm a bit mystified as to what might be wrong. Could anyone out there point me in the right direction? Additionally, if my logic for location is faulty, I'd love recommendations on that too. I've looked at several blogs, the Google examples, and the documentation, but I feel a little fuzzy on how it works.   This question is regarding using STSADM command to create new site collection in Active Directory Account creation mode. My setup is like this- I have 2 virtual PCs in a Windows XP Pro SP3 host. Both VPCs are Windows Server 2003 R2. One VPC acts as the DC, DNS Server, DHCP server, has Active Directory installed and is also the Database Server. The other VPC is the domain member and it is the IIS web server, POP/SMTP server and it has WSS 3.0 installed. I created a new site using the GUI in Central Admin page. For creating a site collection under the newly created site, I needed to use the STSADM command line tool since it cannot be done from Central Admin page in Active Directory Account creation mode.   I'm new to using MINA. I've a program which uses MINA NIOconnector to connect to host. I'm able to send data and also receive. This is clear from log4j log which i'm attaching below. • Using bindings to control column order in a DataGrid

  Problem I have a WPF Toolkit DataGrid, and I'd like to be able to switch among several preset column orders. This is an MVVM project, so the column orders are stored in a ViewModel. The problem is, I can't get bindings to work for the DisplayIndex property. No matter what I try, including the sweet method in this Josh Smith tutorial, I get: The DisplayIndex for the DataGridColumn with Header 'ID' is out of range. DisplayIndex must be greater than or equal to 0 and less than Columns.Count. Parameter name: displayIndex. Actual value was -1. Is there any workaround for this? I'm including my test code below. Update 5/1/2010 I was just doing a little maintenance on my project, and I noticed that when I ran it, the problem I discuss in this post had returned. I knew that it worked last time I ran it, so I eventually narrowed the problem down to the fact that I had installed a newer version of the WPF Toolkit (Feb '10). When I reverted to the June '09 version, everything worked fine again. So, I'm now doing something I should have done in this first place: I'm including the WPFToolkit.dll that works in my solution folder and checking it into version control. It's unfortunate, though, that the newer toolkit has a breaking change.

• Multibinding File-Paths into a Button ControlTemplate

  I am trying to develop an application that uses a number of images that are stored in a seperate remote file location. The file-paths to the UI elements are stored within the Application Settings. Although I understand how to access the images from Applications Settings using a MultiBinding and a value converter, I'm not sure how to integrate the Multibinding into the ImageButton ControlTemplate below. • Enteprise Library Exception Handling for WCF Fault Contracts - CLIENT SIDE

  I have a Windows Service which communicates with WCF services. The WCF services are all fault shielded and generate custom UserFaultContracts and ServiceFaultContracts. No problems there. In the Windows Service I am using EntLib for exception handling and logging. • Problem with URL encoded parameters in URL view helper

  So my problem is kinda weird, it only occurs when I test the application offline (on my PC with WampServer), the same code works 100% correctly online. But offline with WampServer I click on the link and get 404 error like this: Not Found The requested URL /public/admin/index/approve-photo/id/1/ret/admin/index/photos was not found on this server. What the hell? I'm using the latest version of WampServer (WampServer 2.0i [11/07/09]). Everything else works. The problem was actually with the virtual host configuration. The document root was set to C:\wamp\www\myproject instead of C:\wamp\www\myproject\public. It seems like from that link it's impossible since using a where predicate because entity class doesn't know what any of the properties are until I pass them in. Lastly, I need some way of setting a new object as the return type set to the implementation type, in nhibernate (what I am trying to convert from) it was simply this line that did it: ImplentationType entity = default(ImplentationType); However default is an nhibernate command, how would I do this for LINQ? EDIT: getOne doesn't seem to work even when just going off the base class (this is a partial class of the auto generated LINQ classes). I even removed the generics. Everything is working fine in emulator but when i am installing it in device the camera preview is working only in landscape mode. I have tried many thing but could not find any solution.
