• HTTP requests and Apache modules: Creative attack vectors

  Slightly unorthodox question here: I'm currently trying to break an Apache with a handful of custom modules. What spawned the testing is that Apache internally forwards requests that it considers too large (e.g. 1 MB trash) to modules hooked in appropriately, forcing them to deal with the garbage data - and lack of handling in the custom modules caused Apache in its entirety to go up in flames. Ouch, ouch, ouch. That particular issue was fortunately fixed, but the question's arisen whether or not there may be other similar vulnerabilities. Right now I have a tool at my disposal that lets me send a raw HTTP request to the server (or rather, raw data through an established TCP connection that could be interpreted as an HTTP request if it followed the form of one, e.g. "GET ...") and I'm trying to come up with other ideas. (TCP-level attacks like Slowloris and Nkiller2 are not my focus at the moment.) Does anyone have a few nice ideas how to confuse the server and/or its modules to the point of self-immolation? Broken UTF-8? (Though I doubt Apache cares about encoding - I imagine it just juggles raw bytes.) Stuff that is only barely too long, followed by a 0-byte, followed by junk? et cetera I don't consider myself a very good tester (I'm doing this by necessity and lack of manpower; I unfortunately don't even have a more than basic grasp of Apache internals that would help me along), which is why I'm hoping for an insightful response or two or three. Maybe some of you have done some similar testing for your own projects? (If stackoverflow is not the right place for this question, I apologise. Not sure where else to put it.)

• Rotate a feature Image in Open Layers - ReApply StyleMap to layer.

  I have an open layers map. It adds and removes my "imageFeature" every 10secs or so. I have a JSON feed that gives me the rotation that I need, I have a request to get that rotation and set it as a variable of rotationv. Everything works but the fact when the image is recreated it does not update the rotation. My code is as follows: JSON request: var rotationv = (function () { rotationv = null; $.ajax({ 'async': false, 'global': true, 'url': urldefault, 'dataType': "json", 'success': function (data) { rotationv = data.rotation; } }); return rotationv })(); Creating image feature: imageFeature = new OpenLayers.Feature.Vector( new OpenLayers.Geometry.Point(mylon, mylat), { rotation: rotationv } ); The image is set in the styling elsewhere. Why does this not rotate my image? Debugging with firebug I now notice that "rotationv" is updating as per it should be. But when the point is destroyed then added again it does not apply the new rotation... Add: I realised that the "image" is applied as per the layer. So I need to figure out how to re apply the stylemap to the layer so it will trigger the "update" on the page. //redefine layer 2 so it can be updated - test.js is just a 0.0 ref// var layer2 = new OpenLayers.Layer.GML("Layer 2", "test.js", { format: OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON, styleMap: styleMap }); But even if I add the above into my function still no luck. • Using JSON with jRails

  I am currently trying to use AJAX in my application via jRails. I am trying to return a JSON object from my controller, and then parse it in my Javascript. I am using json2.js to do the parsing. Here is the code I currently have: function getSomething() { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "map/testjson", success: function(data) { var myData = JSON.parse(data[0]); window.alert(myData.login); } }); } and in the controller: class Map::MapController < ApplicationController def index end def testjson @message = User.find(:all) ActiveRecord::Base.include_root_in_json = false respond_to do |w| w.json { render :json => @message.to_json } end end end The window.alert simply says 'undefined' (without tics). However, if I change the javascript to window.alert(data) (the raw object returned by the controller) I get: [{"salt":"aSalt","name":"", "created_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","remember_token_expires_at": null,"crypted_password":"aPassword", "updated_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","id":1,"remember_token":null, "login":"zgwrig2","email":"[email protected]"}] This looks like an array of size 1, if I'm looking at it correctly, but I have tried just about every combination of JSON.parse on the data object that I can think of, and nothing seems to work. • Trying to build a Drupal-like CMS in ASP.NET MVC - Newbie Questions

  I am new to ASP.NET MVC, and the ASP.NET technology in general, so, please, excuse the stupidity of my questions. I have a lot of experience with php development and CMS customization (Drupal and Wordpress mainly), and I wanted to know whether some techniques could be applied in asp.net mvc. I want to know what exactly could be modified without recompiling an already built application Can I edit the views without recompiling the app. Can I create custom themes ? Can I add plugins compiled as dlls and use them at runtime. Can I "mark" the assembly in such a way that the web application will check on the next request and will reference it, without me manually adding it to the project and recompiling. I've heard that this is possible. I will make sure to add more when something comes up. The reason I am asking is because I'd like to try and develop a Drupal-like CMS (custom types, views, etc) in asp.net mvc. The dynamism of php will be quite a challenge to replicate in a compiled technology, yet I am ready to try.

• Ideas on C# DSL syntax

  Hi, I am thinking about implementing a templating engine using only the plain C#/.NET 4 syntax with the benefit of static typing. Then on top of that templating language we could create Domain Specific Languages (let's say HTML4, XHTML, HTML5, RSS, Atom, Multipart Emails and so on). One of the best DSLs in .NET 4 (if not only one) is SharpDOM. It implements HTML-specific DSL. Looking at SharpDOM, I am really impressed of what you can do using .NET (4). So I believe there are some not-so-well-known ways for implementing custom DSLs in .NET 4. Possibly not as well as in Ruby, but still. So my the question would be: what are the C# (4) specific syntax features that can be used for implementing custom DSLs? • Get coordinates of google maps markers

  I am creating a databse containing the names and coordinates of all bus stops in my local area. I have all the names stored in my database, and now I need to add the coordinates. I am trying to get these of a website that contains them all as placemarks on a google map. It seems to me like they are being generated from a local server, and then added to the map. However I am unable to find exactly where the server is queried for the coordinates. I am hoping to collect these coordinates through the use of a screen scraper. However unless I am able to find where in the source code the coordinates are created this seems to be impossible. I can of course search and collect all these placemarks manually, but that will be very time consuming. So I am hoping that someone in here can help me. This is the website I am trying to scrape. • Recommended (remote) backup technique for SQL Compact?

  Hello. Is there a generally recommended approach to backing up an SQL CE/SQLite database over the Internet? The client source is .NET/Windows based, the backup destination runs Ubuntu. I am using a small SQL CE database and have been trying to figure out the most reasonable approach to doing this. The file size (in terms of transfer time/bandwidth) isn't a big deal. I had a look around, and so far the things I've given thought are: Online backup services (Dropbox, Mozy) Opening an FTP/SFTP connection Writing a custom protocol with public/private keys Unsure regarding #1 because I doubt they would like it if somebody transferred gigabytes of data using a POST; and they do not seem to offer native (or .NET) APIs. FTP/SFTP seems risky in terms of security and privileges (as the password/key would need to be stored on the client side). With the right user group/user privileges this may work. Custom protocol seems overkill, which is why I am hoping somebody has already defined a reasonable API for language/platform-independent backups over the Internet. Any hints S.O.?

• Implementing BindingList<T>

  I am trying to learn more about BindingList because I believe that it will help me with a project that I am working on. Currently, I have an object class (ScannedImage) that is a subtype of a class (HashedImage) that subtypes a native .Net object (Image). There is no reason why I couldn't move the two subtypes together. I am simply subtyping an object that I had previously constructed, but I will now be storing my ScannedImage object in an RDB (well, not technically - only the details and probably the thumbnail). Also, the object class has member types that are my own custom types (Keywords). I am using a custom datagridview to present these objects, but am handling all changes to the ScannedImage object with my own code. As you can probably imagine, I have quite a few events to handle that occur in these base types. So, if I changed my object to implement INotifyPropertyChanged, would the object collection (implementing BindingList) receive notifications of changes to the ScannedImage object? Also, if Keywords were to implement INotifyPropertyChanged, would changes be accessible to the BindingList through the ScannedImage object? Sorry if this seems rather newbish. I only recently discovered the BindingList and not having formal training in C# programming - am having a difficult time moving forward with this. Also, if anyone has any good reference material, I would be thankful for links. Obviously, I have perused the MSDN Library. I have found a few good links on the web, but it seems that a lot of people are now using WPF and ObservableCollection. My project is based on Winforms and .Net3.5 framework. TIA

• Blurry UILabel as programmatic subview of UITableViewCell contentView

  I am adding a UILabel instance as a subview of my custom UITableViewCell instance's contentView. When I select the cell, the row is highlighted blue, except for the background of the label. The label text is sharp. When I set the label and content view backgroundColor property to [UIColor clearColor], the label text becomes blurry. How do I set the label background color to be clear, to allow the row highlight to come through, while still keeping the label text sharp? One suggestion I read elsewhere was to round the label's frame values, but this did not have any effect. • Right to Left UI in iPhone (Hebrew)

  Hello, I'm struggling in creating a RTL UI in iPhone application. The framework doesn't seem to have any support for RTL languages. The only thing is the alignment inside labels, which is nice, but it conflicts with other controls behaviour. The question is: Is there a working code for a RTL TableView? Something that would handle the disclosure buttons to be on the left, section titles to be right aligned, index view to be left aligned? As far as I understand I cannot move the index view of the tableview, i have to overlay some custom control... Any suggestions/pointers/examples? p.s. this is not a duplication of this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1677988/right-to-left-alignment-for-uitableview since what I am looking for is a deeper customization, not just a new type of CellView. (Update: Mar 10) For now - I've removed support for indexView from the tableView at all, implemented the cells as custom views by myself (with disclosure buttons on the left), and customized the header/footer of the table as well. the only thing that is left is the Index View. • How do I use an SWT Control to render the content of an SWT/JFace table?

  I have a JFace TableViewer with an SWT Table, and I would like to custom render the content of some cells. I would like to use an SWT Control to render the cell content. I would prefer to have only one instance of the Control doing the rendering, but if I have to instantiate one for each row, that would be acceptable. Next, the solution MUST be compatible with the ContentProvider/LabelProvider approach (I am using EMF). This means that I cannot use the solution described in Sniplet 126 (http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/org.eclipse.swt.snippets). Next, I though about using custom drawing. But here the catch is, that I have to send individual drawing operations to the graphics context. I was trying to have the Control render the content for me by calling redraw() or print(GC) upon SWT.PaintItem, but that just lead to uncontrollable flickering. At this point, my best guess is to use SWT.PaintItem to do the drawing. This will result in duplicate code, as I already have a Control that can render the content the way I'd like it. I'd like to prevent this redundancy. Any help is appreciated!

• Limit foreign key choices in select in an inline form in admin

In the inline of rooms, I need to limit the inside_room choices to only rooms which are in the current building being displayed by the main form. I can't figure out a way to do it with either a limit_choices_to in the model, nor can I figure out how exactly to override the admin's inline formset properly (I feel like I should be somehow create a custom inline form, pass the building_id of the main form to the custom inline, then limit the queryset for the field's choices based on that--but I just can't wrap my head around how to do it). Maybe this is too complex for the admin site, but it seems like something that would be generally useful... Thanks again for your help!

  I've create an AdvancedDataGrid where most of the cell are based on an ItemRenderer. The custom ItemRenderer (SoundBox) extends VBox. This custom component allow for simple changes in the background color based on user clicking on a cell.   Hello all, I've just gotten started using BDD with RSpec/Cucumber/Webrat and Rails and I've run into some frustration trying to get my view spec to pass. First of all, I am running Ruby 1.9.1p129 with Rails 2.3.2, RSpec and RSpec-Rails 1.2.6, Cucumber 0.3.11, and Webrat 0.4.4.   So, I'm having a problem mapping in fluent nhibernate. I want to use a join mapping to flatten an intermediate table: Here's my structure: [Vehicle] VehicleId ... [DTVehicleValueRange] VehicleId DTVehicleValueRangeId AverageValue ... [DTValueRange] DTVehicleValueRangeId RangeMin RangeMax RangeValue Note that DTValueRange does not have a VehicleID. I want to flatten DTVehicleValueRange into my Vehicle class. Tgis works fine for AverageValue, since it's just a plain value, but I can't seem to get a ValueRange collection to map correctly. public VehicleMap() { Id(x => x.Id, "VehicleId"); Join("DTVehicleValueRange", x => { x.Optional(); x.KeyColumn("VehicleId"); x.Map(y => y.AverageValue).ReadOnly(); x.HasMany(y => y.ValueRanges).KeyColumn("DTVehicleValueRangeId"); // This Guy }); } The HasMany mapping doesn't seem to do anything if it's inside the Join. If it's outside the Join and I specify the table, it maps, but nhibernate tries to use the VehicleID, not the DTVehicleValueRangeId. What am I doing wrong?

• Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

  I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so? • Application get crash while using NSAutoreleasepool inside MKMapview regionDidChangeAnimated method

  Hi, i am working on a map application, in that i like to drop the pins (as in Zillow apps) when ever user change the map view. I am using following code code. i am try to load the xml data from server using NSAutoreleasepool to do the xml parsing in the background thread. (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView regionDidChangeAnimated:(BOOL)animated{ NSLog(@"inside region did changed "); urlString =[NSString stringWithFormat: @"http://asdfasdasdf.com/asdfasdf/mapxml.php]; [stories1 release]; [mapview removeAnnotations:eventPoints1]; eventPoints1 = [[NSMutableArray array] retain]; [self performSelectorInBackground:@selector(callParsing) withObject:nil]; } -(void)callParsing{ NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; [self parseXMLFileAtURL:urlString]; [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(droppingPin) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:YES]; [pool drain]; } The above code is working fine, but once i changed the mapview, the appllication get crashed. • Android : Customizing tabs on state : How do I make a selector a drawable

  I know how to put the icon on each tab, that is no problem. I also ran across this : Stack Overflow thread on pretty much same thing I followed one of the links from that question, and found this Pretty much, it said use a selector defined in the xml, sure, did that. But there is no id associated w/ it so I am not sure how to get the selector function as a drawable so I can use it as the icon for the tabs. Maybe I am going about this the wrong way.. • Fluent NHibernate Automap does not take into account IList<T> collections as indexed

  I am using automap to map a domain model (simplified version): public class AppUser : Entity { [Required] public virtual string NickName { get; set; } [Required] [DataType(DataType.Password)] public virtual string PassKey { get; set; } [Required] [DataType(DataType.EmailAddress)] public virtual string EmailAddress { get; set; } public virtual IList<PreferencesDescription> PreferencesDescriptions { get; set; } } public class PreferencesDescription : Entity { public virtual AppUser AppUser { get; set; } public virtual string Content{ get; set; } } The PreferencesDescriptions collection is mapped as an IList, so is an indexed collection (when I require standard unindexed collections I use ICollection). The fact is that fluent nhibernate's automap facilities map my domain model as an unindexed collection (so there's no "position" property in the DDL generated by SchemaExport). ¿How can I make it without having to override this very case - I mean, how can I make Fluent nhibernate's automap make always indexed collections for IList but not for ICollection

  I am trying to create a a class that will store a time series of data - organized by groups, but I had some compile errors so I stripped down to the basics (just a simple instantiation) and still can't overcome the compile error. I was hoping some one may have seen this issue before.
