  • Unable to wake display with remote

    I'm running an HTPC (xbmc) without a keyboard/mouse attached, running oneiric. After some indeterminate amount of time, sometime between 1 and 12 hours, the display goes to sleep. The computer itself is not sleeping, I can still SSH to it from another computer. The remote will not wake the display. The IR receiver is working, as irw will show me the remote key presses. The only way to get my display back is to restart the display manager, lightdm in this case. Does anybody know a way to keep the display from going to sleep? I don't really need any power management at all considering that it connects to my TV and when I want my display to go to sleep, I turn off my TV.

  • Dell Inspiron touchpad not working

    I own a Dell Inspiron on which I installed 12.04 on. Everything was working great up until a couple of weeks ago when the Touchpad stopped working. It doesn't show up in mouse/touchpad settings either. I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem with 12.04 and was able to fix it. I am a noob when it comes to computer code and stuff like that, so please try to keep the answer noob proof. Also, does anyone know if the guys behind Ubuntu will have an update to fix this problem?

  • Ubuntu 10.10 freezes

    Hi, I have the following configuration: CPU: amd athlon 64bit Motherboard: Phoenix with awardBIOS v6.0 APIC mode = disabled Video card: GeForce 5500 Sound card: soundblaster live 24bit RAM: 1.5GB Partitions: ext3 32GB where I installed Ubuntu. Swap 500MB. 180GB Fat32 unmounted. contains data only. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and used the "Additional driver" program to get the nVidia proprietary drivers. The system works for sometime and randomly freezes. The mouse and keyboard are not responding and I am not able to do a SSH. The only solution is pressing the power button. I tried Kubuntu 10.10 and 32/64-bits versions as well. There is nothing in the logs to suggest what the reason might be. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I want to setup a click event trigger in jQuery for certain anchor tags. I want to open certain links in a new tab while ignoring ones with a certain class (before you ask I cannot put classes on the links I am trying to catch as they come from a CMS). I want to exclude links with class "button" OR "generic_link" I have tried $(".content_box a[class!=button]").click(function (e) { e.preventDefault(); window.open($(this).attr('href')); }); But that doesn't seem to work, also how do I do an OR statement to include "generic_link" in the exclusion?   • Why does my touchpad fail on resume from standby?

    On resume touchpad disables and a reboot is needed to re-activate. Macbook Pro 6.1 Ubuntu 11.10 MAC 64bit Suspend - ok Suspend Resume - ok However, on resume in the loggin screen my touchpad works, but after I enter my password and return to the desktop the touchpad fails. A usb mouse still works fine. I have to re-boot in order to re-enable toe touchpad. This was not an issue when I had Ubuntu 10.10 32bit installed. The install was a fresh install. The bcm5974 driver will not install, says codependency errors. I manually try to install all dependencies and I get this error: E: hid-dkms: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 10 E: bcm5974-dkms: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Thanks

  • calling webservice in java servlet

    I have created a servlet which displays a form having some fields and a submit button and also created a web service having methods which are needed in my servlet. I have deployed the web service on Tomcat 5.5.9/Axis and servlet web application on Tomcat ( same instance of Tomcat) using eclipse. Since one is web service and other is web application both are running on separate instances of tomcat, so when i run them separately i.e servlet without the call to web service and a client that access that webservice it works fine but when i integrate them both i get a error like exception: javax.servlet.ServletException I would like to call the web service and return the result when i press the button Please advice me on how to implement that.

    I am working on an open-source missile launcher application. I have added a big red button to a Form that says "Launch Missile". When I click the button, the event handler gets called. From the event handler I call a method named LaunchMissile(). So far so good, but how do you launch a missile from C# code? Will I have to write this code myself or is there an API or third party library for launching missiles? Please add sample code for various launch scenarios: orbit, moon, mars, etc.

  • front usb wont mount harddrives, internal usb ports do

    I have noticed something in my new build, i am using Ubuntu desktop newest version my motherboard is the asus f1a75-m pro R2.0 with the usb ports in the back all my NTFS hard disks or usb sticks work fine, but then.. when i put them in the front usb ports of my chassis (silverstone milo ml-03) they wont mount... I have 2 usb 3.0 ports in front of the case connected with a internal usb 3.0 header. But i verified that the usb 3.0 ports on the back do mount the harddisk so it has nothing to do with usb 3.0 i think. The strange thing is, my mouse works fine on the front usb ports. Every usb hardware piece seems to work except if it has any memory inside it :( What seems to be the problem?

When I click the program button (it´s a <p> tag), it´s ok, it shows the table on the div´s. But, when I click the events button, again it shows the program <p> tag contents, and I want to show the events table content. I´ve read de solution for this question on this site, but not happens, when I change my JS file, the content of both <p> tags disapears. Can somebody help me?

    I have i problem! I can't install the Lubuntu 12.04 on my old pc. I only get to the point where I have entered all the needed information (hard drive, username, password etc). When the installation wizard is starting to copy files from the cd to the hard drive, I get after about one minute a blank sreen with only themouse cursor! I can move the mouse cursor but the whole procegure is stoped! Nothing happens after that! My PC: Compaq Pressario 7000 Pentium III 933 MHz 768 MB RAM Any idea how to solve it?? Thanks!!!

  • I need acpi=off to boot, but this seems to disable wifi

    To boot my computer, I have to use acpi=off in kernel options. Doing this apparently causes my wifi adapter to be switched off and prevents my mouse and USB keyboard to not work. If I change acpi=off to nomodeset, it fixes these problems. But then it sets my computer at a lower resolution. I am currently running Kubuntu 13.10, although none of the updates, starting from 12.04, changed the need for acpi=off. I assume I need acpi=off in because I have an oldish computer with an intel motherboard How can I boot without acpi=off?     Hi all. I've got a hidden form field, and when a button gets pressed the value of the hidden field is changed. Now, I've added an observer to the hidden field, listening for changes to occur. For some reason, though, the event listener never kicks in, even though the value of the hidden element changes. I'm using Prototype and Firefox 3.6. The code looks roughly like this: button.observe('click', function(event) { hiddenField.setValue(someValue); }); hiddenField.observe('change', function(event) { alert('It works!'); }); Does anyone have a clue why the latter observer doesn't execute?     I just installed VS2010 and the great new IronPython Tools extension. Currently this extension doesn't yet generate event handlers in code upon double-clicking wpf visual controls. Is there anyone that can provide or point me to an example as to how to code wpf event handlers manually in python. I've had no luck finding any and I am new to visual studio.   • Alert on moving to a different page of a grid when user changes contents of textboxes in a Grid

    In a ASP.NET application I have a paging RadGrid which shows up textbox in each row. Outside the grid, there is an OK button to save the content of all the textbox. If user changes text in any one or more of the textbox and without clicking on the "OK" button, tries to move to a different page number (of the grid by clicking on the page number), he should be prompted for confirmation of save or cancel the changes. I am guessing that one can write a Javascript function which would look for any form input control (textbox in my case) and detect changes and If there are changes, would prompt the user. However, I am not sure where I can call this function from? Any suggestion on this or a better way to achieve this would be appreciated. I am using RadGrid but I guess this should be applicable to GridView as well.

The problem seems to be on my OnMouseMove method.     I have a service monitor app that monitors the status of three other servers app - you know those kind of green, red status stuff, start, stop, etc. The problem is that it shows the wrong state in Windows 7 even if the user is the administrator. The start, stop buttons are disabled and the install button enabled, the status color is grey which is also wrong. The start button should be enabled with the service status showing green - the apps are running. If the application is run with the setting "run as administrator" then it behaves normally. The application is written in Delphi 7 and works perfectly in other versions of Windows. This line of code: OpenSCManager(PChar(sMachine),Nil,SC_MANAGER_ALL_ACCESS) always return 0 under Win7, causing the problem. Any ideas and if possible, any workaround apart from "run as administrator". Regards Ronaldo

  • VB.NET Application which can compile and run C programs

    These days I'm working on a VB.NET application which can be used to edit, compile and run C programs. Can someone tell me how I can call a cl.exe process from within my VB program and also that how do I run the program in the console widow itself. Presently I have only the editor ready. With that one can type in a program and save it with a ".c" extension. Now there are 2 buttons on my form - "Compile" and "Run". When the user clicks on the "Compile" button, the program should be passed to the cl.exe process and the errors should be displayed in another textbox or the DOS(black screen itself). And when the user clicks on the "Run" button, the ".exe" file which just got created should get executed.
