  • How to show a live Presentation from an Android phone?

    - by Pentium10
This is not closely related to programming stuff, so I marked as community wiki. I am wondering how can I show a live Presentation from an Android phone? I want to put on a big screen my app, while I am presenting at a conference. I will directly interact with the phone during the presentation and I want the mobile screen visible on the big screen. Are there any apps that does this, or this is possible by the USB cable?

  • What is the best book for learning about Algorithms?

    - by sheats
I know what algorithms are, but I have never consciously used or created one for any of the programming that I have done. So I'd like to get a book about the subject - I'd prefer if it was in python but that's not a strict requirement. What book about algorithms helped you most to understand, use, and create algorithms? One book per answer so they can be voted on...

  • Should I use Java for a custom Swing component designed for a clojure app?

    - by nansen
I want a simple timeline component (like in video editing software) for a clojure/seesaw app and I am wondering if it is a good approach to implement this directly with clojure and seesaw or if I should write it in java and make my clojure wrapper around it. Or more generally: is a functional programming language optimal for writing UI widgets? I cannot imagine doing that without a lot of state involved. And wasn't OO invented for UI-development in the first place?

  • Parsing Range Expressions

    - by sameer karjatkar
I have a string (R(46 - 9900)) AND ( NOT (R(48 - 9900))) where R denotes Range . If you evaluate the expression it results in R(46-47) , considering the logical operators (AND,NOT). I have a requirement where I need to parse such a string and evaluate it to a correct result . I have to use C++ as a programming tool to achieve this result . Can anyone suggest a few guide lines as to how do I proceed on this ?

  • Where can I find Python tutorials aimed at people who are already programmers?

    - by Chris R
I'm a reasonably skilled programmer, and I'm interested in branching out into some new languages -- python, specifically -- but frankly I do NOT want to go through a tutorial that assumes I know nothing about programming. I want a tutorial -- again, preferably for python -- that assumes I'm just unfamiliar with the language itself and describes the ways I can use the language to solve problems. Does such a beast exist? I mean, other than the Python wiki?

  • codeigniter cron job with http access

    - by user1313850
Sorry if this is a duplicate question...I've searched around and found similar advice but nothing that helps my exact problem. And please excuse the noob questions, CRON is a new thing for me. I have a codeigniter script that scrapes the html DOM of another site and stores some of that in a database. I'd like to run this script at a regular interval. This has lead me to looking into cron jobs. The page I have is at myserver.com/index.php/update I realize I can run a cron job with curl and run this page. If I want to be a bit more secure I can put a string at the end like: myserver.com/index.php/update/asdfh2784fufds And check for that in my CI controller. This seems like it would be mostly secure, but doesn't seem like the "right" way to do things. I've looked into running CI from the command line, and can execute basic pages like: php index.php mycontroller But when I try to do: php index.php update It doesn't work. I suspect this is because it needs to use HTTP to scrape the DOM of the outside page. So, my question: How do I securely run a codeigniter script with a cron job that needs HTTP access?

  • c++ creating ambigram from string

    - by mike_hornbeck
I have a task to implement "void makeAmbigram(char*)" that will print on screen ambigram of latin string or return something like 'ambigram not possible'. Guess it's just about checking if string contains only of SNOXZHI and printing string backwards. Or am I wrong ? I'm a complete noob when dealing with cpp so that's what I've created : #include <iostream> using namespace std; char[]words; char[]reversed; char[] ret_str(char* s) { if(*s != '\0') ret_str(s+1); return s; } void makeAmbigram(char* c) { /* finding chars XIHNOZS and printing ambigram */ } int main() { cin>>words; reversed = ret_str(words); makeAmbigram(reversed); return 0; } I can reverse string but how to check if my reversed string contains only needed chars ? I've found some function but it's hard or even imposible to implement it for greater amount of chars : http://www.java2s.com/Code/C/String/Findcharacterinstringhowtousestrchr.htm

  • Standalone application in C, a good idea?

    - by chutsu
The term has several definition according to Wikipedia, however what I'm really interested in is creating a program that has all its needed dependencies included within the source folder, so the end user doesn't need to install additional libraries for the app to install. For example, how Mac apps has all its dependencies all within the program itself already... or is there a function that autotools does this? I'm programming in the Linux environment...

  • Ignore all folders with a certain name in SVN (subversion), how to?

    - by Roeland
I am fairly new to Subversion and was wondering how exactly to ignore all folders by a specific name. From what I have read, I think I need to use the svn:ignore function, but I have no clue on how to actually do this. Some places mention a config file.. some say command prompt. I have my subversion repo set up on a windows 2008 server. I tried to go to command prompt and type svn:ignore name but that didnt work. The tutorial I used to set up my repo (with apache 2.2) had me create an etc folder in c:/. There I have subversion.conf, svn-acl and svn-auth-file. My subversion.conf file includes this: <Location /btp> DAV svn SVNPath C:/Files/Work/Repositories/btp AuthType Basic AuthName "By The Pixel Repo" AuthUserFile c:/etc/svn-auth-file Require valid-user AuthzSVNAccessFile c:/etc/svn-acl </Location> The client I use for my development machines is tortoisesvn. Im a bit of a noob so any help is appreciated it! Thanks.

  • How much does it cost to develop an iphone application?

    - by delooks
How much can a developer charge for an iphone app like twitterrific. I want to know this because I need such an app with the same functionality for a new community website. I can do Ruby but have no experience with Objective C. So it would be interesting for me if I should start reading books about iPhone programming or outsource the work to a iPhone programmer.

  • C: writing the following code into functions

    - by donok
Dear respected programmers. Please could you help me (again) on how to put the following code into functions for my program. I have read on-line and understand how functions work but when I do it myself it all goes pear shaped/wrong(I am such a noob). Please could you help with how to for example to write the code below into functions.(like opening the input file). My attempt: void outputFile(int argc, char **argv) { /* Check that the output file doesnt exist */ if (stat(argv[argc-1], &inode) != -1) { printf("Warning: The file %s already exists. Not going to overwrite\n", argv[argc-1]); return -1; } /*Opening ouput files*/ file_desc_out = open(argv[i],O_CREAT | O_WRONLY | O_EXCL , S_IRUSR|S_IWUSR); if(file_desc_out == -1) { printf("Error: %s cannot be opened. \n",argv[i]); //insted of argv[2] have pointer i. return -1; } } Any help on how I would now reference to this in my program is appreciated thank you. I tried: ouputfile(but I cant figure out what goes here and why either).

  • Illegal Start of Expression

    - by Kraivyne
    Hello there, I have just started to learn the very basics of Java programming. Using a book entitled "Programming Video Games for the Evil Genius". I have had an Illegal Start of Expression error that I can't for the life of me get rid of. I have checked the sample code from the book and mine is identical. The error is coming from the for(int i = difficulty; i = 0; i- - ) line. Thanks for helping a newbie out. import javax.swing.*; public class S1P4 {public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { int difficulty; difficulty = Integer.parseInt(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("How good are you?\n"+ "1 = Great\n"+"10 = Terrible")); boolean cont = false; do { cont = false; double num1 = (int)(Math.round(Math.random()*10)); double num2; do { num2 = (int)(Math.round(Math.random()*10)); } while(num2==0.0); int sign = (int)(Math.round(Math.random()*3)); double answer; System.out.println("\n\n*****"); if(sign==0) { System.out.println(num1+" times "+num2); answer = num1*num2; } else if(sign==1) { System.out.println(num1+" divided by"+num2); answer = num1/num2; } else if(sign==1) { System.out.println(num1+" plus "+num2); answer = num1+num2; } else if(sign==1) { System.out.println(num1+" minus "+num2); answer = num1-num2; } else { System.out.println(num1+" % "+num2); answer = num1%num2; } System.out.println("*****\n"); for(int i = difficulty; i >= 0; i- - ) { System.out.println(i+"..."); Thread.sleep(500); } System.out.println("ANSWER: "+answer); String again; again = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Play again?"); if(again.equals("yes")) cont = true; } while(cont); } }

  • ajax on parked domain

    - by Daryl
I'm currently writing this jquery and for some reason (I don't know why) it works on the normal domain, but on the parked domain it doesn't. Normal domain - http://www.thefinishedbox.com Parked domain - http://www.tfbox.com If you scroll down to the colony news and hit the click me link you'll see it will retrieve data via jquery ajax on the Normal domain, but on the parked domain it wont. Here is the jQuery code I have so far (its pretty standard): $(function() { $.ajaxSetup({ cache: false }); var ajax_load = "Load me plz"; // load() functions var loadUrl = "http://thefinishedbox.com/wp-content/themes/tfbox-beta/test.php"; $('.overlay').css({ opacity: '0' }); $('.toggle').click(function() { $('.overlay').css({ display: 'block' }).animate({ opacity: '1' }, 300); $(".overlay .content").html(ajax_load).load(loadUrl); return false; }); $('.close').click(function() { $('.overlay').animate({ opacity: '0' }, 300); $('.overlay').queue(function() { $(this).css({ display: 'none' }); $(this).dequeue(); }); return false; }); I'm a complete noob when it comes to ajax so any help would be massivly appreciated.
