• Javascript function returning number with two decimals...?

  I have a function to return points along a line and my return comes back with two decimal points...? For example, a return of my variable px will be something like -88.4029.032940598. vx is the x vector and mult is the distance of the line plus distance to calculate the point. Here is the operation that is returning these values: var mult = parseFloat(mag + theUnit); var px = coord_one.x_point + (vx * mult); console.log(px); Never have seen this before- I appreciate any and all help!

• How to merge branches in Git by "hunk"

  Here's the scenario. I made a "dev" branch off the "master" branch and made a few new commits. Some of those changes are going to only be relevant to my local development machine. For example I changed a URL variable to point to a local apache server instead of the real URL that's posted online (I did this for speed during the testing phase). Now I'd like to incorporate my changes from the dev branch into the master branch but NOT those changes which only make sense in my local environment. I'd envisioned something like a merge --patch which would allow me to choose the changes I want to merge line by line. Alternatively maybe I could checkout the "master" branch, but keep the files in my working directory as they were in the "dev" branch, then do a git add --patch. Would that work?

• More elegant way to initialize list of duplicated items in Python

  If I want a list initialized to 5 zeroes, that's very nice and easy: [0] * 5 However if I change my code to put a more complicated data structure, like a list of zeroes: [[0]] * 5 will not work as intended, since it'll be 10 copies of the same list. I have to do: [[0] for i in xrange(5)] that feels bulky and uses a variable so sometimes I even do: [[0] for _ in " "] But then if i want a list of lists of zeros it gets uglier: [[[0] for _ in " "] for _ in " "] all this instead of what I want to do: [[[0]]*5]*5 Has anyone found an elegant way to deal with this "problem"?

• DOS Batch file - Copy file based on filename elements

  I need to sort alot of files based on their filename. I would like to use a batch file to do it. I do know what I want but I am not sure of the correct syntax. Example of filenames I work with: (They are all in the same directory originally) 2012_W34_Sales_Store001.pdf 2012_W34_Sales_Store002.pdf 2012_W34_Sales_Store003.pdf 2012_November_Sales_Store001.pdf 2012_November_Sales_Store002.pdf 2012_November_Sales_Store003.pdf I would like to extract the information that are located between the "_" signs and put them into a different variable each time. The lenght of the informations contained between the _ signs will be different everytime. Example: var1="2012" var2="W34" (or November) var3="Sales" var4="001" If I am able to do this, I could then copy the files to the appropriate directory using move %var1%_%var2%_%var3%_%var4%.pdf z:\%var3%\%var4%\%var1%\%var2% It would need to loop because I have Store001 to Store050. Also, there are not only Sales report, many others are available. I hope I am clear. Please help me realize this batchfile!

But it fail on the row printf("a\n"); and says Segmentation fault (core dumped) Output: &a = 134525024 Segmentation fault (core dumped) When I remove the row printf("&a = %u\n",(unsigned)&a); from the code, its success. • IDisposable, does it really matter

  Coming from C/C++ a long time ago I still have a habit of ensuring that all resources are cleaned up correctly. I always ensure Dispose is called on IDisposable classes and implement Dispose patterns in my classes containing disposable objects. However, in my environment I'm more or less the only one doing this. Others just don't understand what I'm doing and think my code is more difficult to understand. They just create database connections, open streams etc without calling Close or Dispose. Sometimes they set a local or member variable to "Nothing" at the end of a method (guess their background). My problem is that their code works just as well as mine. Code that over time creates thousands of database connection objects just works. So, ignoring any arguments about code correctness, following guidelines etc, does IDiposable really matter? Has anyone actually ran out of resources from not Disposing objects?

• Scalling connected lines

  Hello, I have some kind of a shape consisting of vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines. I have starting X,Y and ending X,Y (this is my input - just 2 points defining a line) of each line and I would like to make the whole shape scalable (just by changing the value of a scale ratio variable), so that I can still preserve the proper connection of the lines and the proportions as well. Just for getting a better idea of what I mean: it'd be as if I had the same lines in a vector editor. Would that be possible with an algorithm, and could you please, give me another possible solution if there is no such algorithm ? Thank you very much in advance!

• C# - Printing out groupnames, items and subitems in a loop?

  What I'm trying to do, is to store all groupnames, items and subitems from a listview into a string. Take a look at the following screenshot. I'm kind of stuck though, with the loop. I'm pretty sure i can figure out how to actually store it in a variable though. The following code will loop through all of the listview Items: int countGroups = csslistview.Items.Count; foreach (ListViewItem lvi in csslistview.Items){ //code here countGroups++; } But i can't figure out how to loop through all of the Groups. I tried this, but it's not working: int countGroups = csslistview.Groups.Count; foreach (ListViewItem lvi in csslistview.Items){ //code here countGroups++; } I'm trying to echo it out as CSS, if you're wondering. The grouname is the id/class/tag, the item is the rule, and the subitem is the property. So, any ideas?

As an aside, why do you even have to specify 'click', when the API states that handler always pertains to a click? Is this additional information not unnecessary?

• Java Null Pointer Exception :-(

  I've got a Null Pointer Exception in my main that just won't go away and I'm totally out of ideas. The error is on the line "Board[x][y].color = 2;" in which Board is a public, static array of piece objects that contain instance variables like the one "color" that is being set to 2 in the above statement. Pieces is not static - that is there are many different copies of pieces, each with its own data, but only one board. The array has been initialized and defined as both public Piece[][] Board = new Piece[8][8] and public static Piece[][] Board = new Piece[8][8], but no matter how I mess around with it (getting rid of static, putting the variable in another object, etc.), I can't seem to get the error to go away. Help?

Folder structure: Folder1/analysis.m Folder1/meas_dynamic_123.dcm My script (analysis.m) begins as follows: target =''; <== here should go the full path to the file + filename example: /Volumes/Data/Folder1/meas_dynamic_123.m txt = dir(target); // etc So I'm wondering if there is a way of when running analysis.m it will: automatically search the folder it's in, grab the full path + filename of file containing string dynamic in the name, insert its full path + name into target variable continue running the script Does anyone have any pointers on how to achieve this? • Submit form if ajax validator returns true using jquery

  I am not sure where I'm going wrong. The idea is that before the form is submitted, one of the input fields is sent to a server-side validator via ajax. If the response is 1, the input is valid and the form should be submitted. If the response is 0, the form should not be submitted. The issue is that I can't figure out how to set a variable within the ajax request function that will prevent the form from being submitted. I have an array named expression chunk[0] = 12 chunk[1] = + (the "+" sign) chunk[1] = 5 I used a for loop to loop through the chunks (chunk[]) and join then into a single expression as follows:- equation = ""; // To make var equation a string for(i = 0; i <= length; i++) { equation = equation + expression[i]; alert(expression[i]); } alert(equation); alert(expression[i]) showed values 12, + and 5. But alert(equation) showed 125 (instead of "12+5"). I need the variable equation to be "12+5" so that I can later call eval(equation) and get the value of 12+5. What am I doing wrong here?

Am I mis-remembering an ArrayList example? I know this is a borderline question, the likely answer is, "No, there isn't and there shouldn't be either!". Maybe I'm over-focused... Bill

• AngularJS, changing the data in a view without div disappearing

  I'm making a little wizard/survey in AngularJS which loads in data to a variable, $scope.styles. I've set up a plunkr for ease of use here: http://plnkr.co/edit/1S542YE7xlO2P4zyhzu0?p=preview Pretty simple. I show each object to the user in succession, which loads in the pertinent images and displays them for the user. clicking "yes/no" at the bottom of the images it loads in the next gallery. There is a big of lag between the refresh here (Plunkr seems to be loading it quite quickly, but this is not the case on my production server so it's even more noticable) which causes the window size to momentarily be much smaller plus all the content below the ng-repeat jumps to the top of the screen. What's the best way to prevent this from happening? Is CSS the only solution here?

  I am a bit confused about socket programming in C. You create a socket, bind it to an interface and an IP address and get it to listen. I found a couple of web resources on that, and understood it fine. In particular, I found an article Network programming under Unix systems to be very informative. What confuses me is the timing of data arriving on the socket. How can you tell when packets arrive, and how big the packet is, do you have to do all the heavy lifting yourself? My basic assumption here is that packets can be of variable length, so once binary data starts appearing down the socket, how do you begin to construct packets from that?
