• Problem with SQL connection on virtualised machines

  We have just virtualised our web servers but are experiencing problems when trying to connect with the existing DB server. The error message that is being returned from the virtual machines is as follows: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.) Any help would be much appreciated - Many thanks in advance.

• Virsh: Different XML with edit than dumpxml. Why?

  I'm trying to fetch the VNC access data from a virtual machine managed by libVirt. However, when I run virsh dumpxml $machine, the vnc passwd is missing: <graphics type='vnc' port='-1' autoport='yes'/> Checking the same using virsh edit $machine, I see the password is actually there: <graphics type='vnc' port='-1' autoport='yes' passwd='asdf'/> Why is this? Is this intentional (what reason?), or could this be a bug?

• A linux tftpd server that can log the incoming requests to stdout/stderr

  I find it crazy that this doesn't work out of the box, but neither atftpd nor tftpd-hpa seem to have any way to log to the console. I've run them in the foreground with verbosity right up but clearly that's not the right magic incantation. I'm running a short-lived server for a firmware upload and I want to see the requests (and ideally when they've completed).

  what do the various USB charge while sleeping modes mean? my new laptop has these sleep while charging modes : mode 4 mode 3 mode 2 mode 1 the list box doesn't tell me what these modes mean or do. I noticed that my iphone is charging really slowly on mode 4. What is it going to do to my power consumption if I change it to something like 1 or 2 ?

I have used the following to send all output to a file, but again I don't want any file output: command > out.txt 2>&1 I have used command > /bin/null on my CentOS box before, but I can't find a similar thing for windows.

• Slow video performance with 4 monitors. What's the cause?

  I recently installed another video card and added two more monitors to my work setup. Opening RDP windows and expanding the start menu cause the box to slow, mouse to jump and is a real productivity killer. Am I lacking the power necessary to drive the cards? Is there just increased processor load that is slowing me down?

  I've got a daemon process that I run on my machine every hour, and even though I've checked the Hidden box, it doesn't work. Every hour, the task runs, but it shows the black command window, in which my .NET Console app is running. This stays visible until the task completes, and then disappears. This is very annoying, because it pops up and interrupts whatever I'm doing: I really do want it hidden, so how can I fix this?

  I am trying to connect to a Barracuda VPN with a windows 7 machine. I am gettng this message before it fails: There are no TAP-Win32 adapters on this system. You should be able to create a TAP-Win32 adapter by going to Start - All Programs - Network Connector - Add a new TAP-Win32 virtual ethernet adapter. I am unable to follow these instructions on Windows 7, any ideas on how to create this adapter?

When I go to recreate it I get the message: Error: A queue with the same path name already exists From research it appears that the queue gets replicated in the AD and sometimes it doesn't delete. So now the AD admin has to delete this for me, but they don't seem to understand. So how can I get past this error?

While virtual box installs on win7 32 bit, the installer eventually fails under win7 64-bit - are there any tricks I need to be aware of ? I'm already running the installer as Administrator.   I'm using the EXPORT feature in Hyper-V to move a large Virtual Machine (VM) over a 1GB network from a Windows 2008 to a Windows 2008 R2 box (200GB) and its so intense that I get the following icon on my destination Hyper-V manager: Is this expected? Is there another way to get large file across the network and minimize this intense I/O effect? Anyones else ever seen that Do Not Enter sign? The other VMs are functional but slow, but I'm guessing that is expected.
