• TFS 2010 and the missing Area & Iterations (stale data) Issue

  The symptom is this: you change some area or iteration in a TFS Project, but the change is not reflected (or updated) in VS or any other TFS Client. Well, it happens that TFS now has some clever caching mechanisms that need to be updated when you make a change like this, and those changes are propagated by some scheduled jobs TFS is continuously running in the Application Tier.  So, you you get this behavior, please check (and possibly restart) the "Visual Studio Team Foundation Background Job Agent" service. In my case, this service was logging a very odd "Object Reference Not Set" into the Windows Event Log, and a simple restart fixed it. Hope this is fixed by RTM...   (we are using the RC version). And by the way, if the job agent is broken there are some other things that stops working like email notifications. Best regards, Andrés G Vettori, CTO, VMBC

The focus here is about this new kind of "programming style"... So, the question: Is the "jQuery programming style in DOM context" a new paradign? Or it is more one example of reactive programming (not "cell-oriented" but "DOM-node oriented") or another one? We have no "standard taxonomy of paradigms", so, please, in your answer, indicate also your "best choice for Wikipedia Paradign". Example: if you understand that "jQuery programming DOM" is like "awk filtering data", your choice can be event-driven.

• Changing the Module title in DotNetNuke on the Fly

  This is an extremely short post, buy hopefully it will help others in the situation. (Also if I need to find it again I know where to look) We have recently completed a project using DotNetNuke as our base. The project was for a B2B portal using Microsoft Dynamics NAV as our back-end. We had a requirement where we wanted to change the title of a Module on the fly. This ended up being pretty easy from our module. In our Page_Load event all we had to do was the following. Control ctl = DotNetNuke.Common.Globals.FindControlRecursiveDown(this.ContainerControl, "lblTitle"); if ((ctl != null)) { ((Label)ctl).Text += "- Text Added"; } Thats it. All we do it go up 1 control (this.ContainerControl) and look for the Label called "lblTitle". We then append text to the existing Module title.

• Async CTP (C# 5): How to make WCF work with Async CTP

  If you have recently downloaded the new Async CTP you will notice that WCF uses Async Pattern and Event based Async Pattern in order to expose asynchronous operations. In order to make your service compatible with the new Async/Await Pattern try using an extension method similar to the following: WCF Async/Await Method public static class ServiceExtensions {     public static Task<DateTime> GetDateTimeTaskAsync(this Service1Client client)     {         return Task.Factory.FromAsync<DateTime>(             client.BeginGetDateTime(null, null),             ar => client.EndGetDateTime(ar));     } } The previous code snippet adds an extension method to the GetDateTime method of the Service1Client WCF proxy. • Mouse and Keyboard Freeze

  I installed Ubuntu 10.10 today and have had mouse problem since. Symptoms: At some arbitrary point in time (frequency: 2-3 times per hour), the mouse and keyboard stops working for ever(may be). I start System monitor, I found out network was shutdown just before mouse freeze. Some time my keyboard keep typing one key. For example:77777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777.....(it keep typing for 20 sec) I found out a script just solve the freeze problem:(I hit Powerbutton) -----------------/etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh------------------------ event=button[ /]power action=/usr/sbin/fix_mouse.sh -----------------/usr/sbin/fix_mouse.sh------------------------ rmmod psmouse modprobe psmouse Yesterday I install Ubuntu 10.04 FAILED also have mouse problem. When I switch back to Windows XP. The network card is down. It kept connecting and disconnecting 1 time per sec. • Inserting and Deleting Sub Rows in GridView

  A user in the forums (http://forums.asp.net) is asking how to insert  sub rows in GridView and also add delete functionality for the inserted sub rows. In this post I'm going to demonstrate how to this in ASP.NET WebForms.  The basic idea to achieve this is we just need to insert row data in the DataSource that is being used in GridView since the GridView rows will be generated based on the DataSource data. To make it more clear then let's build up a sample application. To start fire up Visual Studio and create a WebSite or Web Application project and then add a new WebForm. The FillData() method is a method that returns a DataTable and basically creates a dummy data in the DataTable to be used as the GridView DataSource. You can replace the code in that method if you want to use actual data from database but for the purpose of this example I just fill the DataTable with a dummy data on it. The BindGridVew is a method that handles the actual binding of GridVew. The InsertRow() is a method that returns a DataRow. This method handles the insertion of the sub row. Now in the LinkButton OnClick event, we casted the sender to a LinkButton to determine the specific object that fires up the event and get the row values. We then reference the Data from ViewState to get the current data that is being used in the GridView. If the LinkButton text is "Insert" then we will insert new row to the DataSource ( in this case the DataTable) based on the rowIndex if not then Delete the sub row that was added. • New ADF Desktop Integration Components Demo Available

  The new ADF Desktop Integration Components demo is available on the OTN and can be downloaded and ran in a standalone way.  The demo follows the same principles of the  ADF Faces and DVT Components demo, presenting the list of all the components available with its corresponding properties as well as feature demos exposing advanced functionality of the framework. It is a great demo that exposes from the very basics of each visual component as well as advanced functionality such as dependent list of values, master-details integration, event handling, integration with ADF Faces and web interfaces and parameter passing between ADF applications to excel. • Silverlight 5 &ndash; What&rsquo;s New? (Including Screenshots &amp; Code Snippets)

  Silverlight 5 is coming next year (2011) and this blog post will tell you what you need to know before the beta ships. First, let me address people saying that it is dead after PDC 2010. I believe that it’s best to see what the market is doing, not the vendor. Below is a list of companies that are developing Silverlight 4 applications shown during the Silverlight Firestarter. Some of the companies have shipped and some haven’t. It’s just great to see the actual company names that are working on Silverlight instead of “people are developing for Silverlight”. The next thing that I wanted to point out was that HTML5, WPF and Silverlight can co-exist. In case you missed Scott Gutherie’s keynote, they actually had a slide with all three stacked together. This shows Microsoft will be heavily investing in each technology.  Even I, a Silverlight developer, am reading Pro HTML5. Microsoft said that according to the Silverlight Feature Voting site, 21k votes were entered. Microsoft has implemented about 70% of these votes in Silverlight 5. That is an amazing number, and I am crossing my fingers that Microsoft bundles Silverlight with Windows 8. Let’s get started… what’s new in Silverlight 5? I am going to show you some great application and actual code shown during the Firestarter event. Media Hardware Video Decode – Instead of using CPU to decode, we will offload it to GPU. This will allow netbooks, etc to play videos. Trickplay – Variable Speed Playback – Pitch Correction (If you speed up someone talking they won’t sound like a chipmunk). Power Management – Less battery when playing video. Screensavers will no longer kick in if watching a video. If you pause a video then screensaver will kick in. Remote Control Support – This will allow users to control playback functions like Pause, Rewind and Fastforward. IIS Media Services 4 has shipped and now supports Azure. Data Binding Layout Transitions – Just with a few lines of XAML you can create a really rich experience that is not using Storyboards or animations. RelativeSource FindAncestor – Ancestor RelativeSource bindings make it much easier for a DataTemplate to bind to a property on a container control. Custom Markup Extensions – Markup extensions allow code to be run at XAML parse time for both properties and event handlers. This is great for MVVM support. Changing Styles during Runtime By Binding in Style Setters – Changing Styles at runtime used to be a real pain in Silverlight 4, now it’s much easier. Binding in style setters allows bindings to reference other properties. XAML Debugging – Below you can see that we set a breakpoint in XAML. This shows us exactly what is going on with our binding.  WCF & RIA Services WS-Trust Support – Taken from Wikipedia: WS-Trust is a WS-* specification and OASIS standard that provides extensions to WS-Security, specifically dealing with the issuing, renewing, and validating of security tokens, as well as with ways to establish, assess the presence of, and broker trust relationships between participants in a secure message exchange. You can reduce network latency by using a background thread for networking. Supports Azure now.  Text and Printing Improved text clarity that enables better text rendering. Multi-column text flow, Character tracking and leading support, and full OpenType font support.  Includes a new Postscript Vector Printing API that provides control over what you print . Pivot functionality baked into Silverlight 5 SDK. Graphics Immediate mode graphics support that will enable you to use the GPU and 3D graphics supports. Take a look at what was shown in the demos below. 1) 3D view of the Earth – not really a real-world application though. A doctor’s portal. This demo really stood out for me as it shows what we can do with the 3D / GPU support. Out of Browser OOB applications can now create and manage childwindows as shown in the screenshot below.  Trusted OOB applications can use P/Invoke to call Win32 APIs and unmanaged libraries.  Enterprise Group Policy Support allow enterprises to lock down or up the sandbox capabilities of Silverlight 5 applications. In this demo, he tore the “notes” off of the application and it appeared in a new window. See the black arrow below. In this demo, he connected a USB Device which fired off a local Win32 application that provided the data off the USB stick to Silverlight. Another demo of a Silverlight 5 application exporting data right into Excel running inside of browser. Testing They demoed Coded UI, which is available now in the Visual Studio Feature Pack 2. This will allow you to create automated testing without writing any code manually. Performance: Microsoft has worked to improve the Silverlight startup time. • Detecting Idle Time with Global Mouse and Keyboard Hooks in WPF

  Years and years ago I wrote this blog post about detecting if the user was idle or active at the keyboard (and mouse) using a global hook. Well that code was for .NET 2.0 and Windows Forms and for some reason I wanted to try the same in WPF and noticed that a few things around the keyboard and mouse hooks didn’t work as expected in the WPF environment. So I had to change a few things and here’s the code for it, working in .NET 4. I took the liberty and refactored a few things while at it and here’s the code now. • Ubuntu 12.04.1 completely freezing very often [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What should I do when Ubuntu freezes? I am running ubuntu 12.04.1 on an asus zenbook prime (UX31A), and I am having a problem where the entire OS freezes at random times. It doesn't seem to happen in response to any certain event, it will even sometimes happen while just moving the mouse, not even clicking on anything. The entire system will freeze, mouse and keyboard do not work, and any music/video will freeze and audio will loop. I can do nothing but hold the power button to reboot the computer. I've had this problem for a while, and just yesterday gotten around to backing up everything and doing a fresh install. Lo and behold, I get a freeze within 20 minutes of a fresh install. I've googled this a lot, and cannot find anything that resembles it exactly (some people have everything but mouse/keyboard freeze, some people only have the mouse/keyboard freeze).
