• Why can't I project ToString() in VB?

  If you try to compile the query below in Visual Basic .NET, it fails. From x In {1, 2} Select x.ToString() The error given by the compiler is: Range variable name cannot match the name of a member of the 'Object' class. There is nothing wrong with the equivalent C# query, though: from x in new[]{1, 2} select x.ToString() This does not happen with the ToString overload that takes a format (it is a member of Int32, not Object). It does happen with other members of Object, as long as they don't take an argument: with GetType and GetHashCode it fails; with Equals(object) it compiles. Why is this restriction in place, and what alternatives can I use?

  I have the following method (used to generate friendly error messages in unit tests): protected string MethodName<TTestedType>(Action<TTestedType> call) { return string.Format("{0}.{1}", typeof(TTestedType).FullName, call.Method.Name); } But when I call it as follows, I don't get the expected results: var nm = MethodName<MyController>(ctrl => ctrl.Create()); After running this code, nm contains "<Create_CreateShowsView>b__8", and not (as expected) "Create". How should I change the code to obtain the expected result?

  I need to extract the SAME type of information (e.g. First name, Last Name, Telephone, ...), from numerous different text sources (each with a different format & different order of the variables of interest). I want a function that does the extraction based on a regular expression and returns the result as DESCRIPTIVE variables. In other words, instead of returning each match result as submatch[0], submatch[1], submatch[2], ..., have it do EITHER of the following: 1.) return std::map so that the submatches can be accessed via: submatch["first_name"], submatch["last_name"], submatch["telephone"] 2.) return a variables with the submatches so that the submatches can be accessed via: submatch_first_name, submatch_last_name, submatch_telephone I can write a wrapper class around boost::regex to do #1, but I was hoping there would be a built-in or a more elegant way to do this in C++/Boost/STL/C.

• Python - read numbers from text file and put into list

  So like the title says im starting to learn some python and im having trouble picking up on this technique. What I need to accomplish is to read in some numbers and store them in a list. The text file looks like the following: 0 0 3 50 50 100 4 20 Basically these are coordinates and directions to be used for python's turtle to make shapes. I got that part down the only problem is getting them in a correct format. So what I can not figure out is how to get those numbers from the file into [ [0, 0, 3, 50], [50, 100, 4, 20] ] A list, with each four coordinates being a list in that one big list. • mysql phpmyadmin, how to save date of birth that was attained through a form with the input type "se

  Hello, I have a form which asks the user his or her date of birth. Its a drop down box since I use the select input type. The first drop down has Months, second has Days, the third has the Years. So the format should be Month(October), Day(25), Year(1990). In other words the months spell out the actual month and not simply the number representation of the month. However, I would like to save the Day and Year in their respective formats. How can I do this in phpMyAdmin? Should I use the DATE type? what should the value be? I just need to know how to correlate all of this in phpmyadmin, so I can save it properly. Thank you.

  Hi there In report design, I have 2 tables (Current and Proposed) the structure like this: Current Parameter | Value | Rate | Total Value ... Proposed Parameter | Value | Rate | Total Value ... Each bottom of the table (Table Footer), I have something called: "Total: " which is a sum of Total field. I called these textboxes are txtbxCurrent and txtbxProposed and the format is in currency already. This thing is running well. But now I need to get a total of these txtbxCurrent and txtbxProposed. How do I do this? Can I take the value of this or not? BTW ..   Hello i have a question. in short: i need a function which receives [NSDate date] and string @"2010-11-12" and returns the amount of days between those two dates. more explanation: I need to store a date from a server in the format @"2010-11-12" in my NSUserdefaults. The meaning of this date is the expireDate of a feature in an iPhone App. Everytime i press on a button for this feature i need to check if the difference in days between the current time-[NSDate date] and @"2010-11-12" is greater than 0. That means tahat the feature is disabled. its making me crazy mabey its to dead simple.

• How to make an element slide with the viewport as it scrolls?

  I've Googled for this but must be using the wrong keywords. Basically I want to use the effect that Magento and now Stack Overflow uses. That is, there is an element in a column, and when you scroll down, it sticks to the top of the viewport. And once scrolled up again, it goes back into the normal page flow. This Ask A Question is a good page for example. Scroll down and watch the "How to Format" element come down (might need to make your viewport smaller if you have a large screen to see the effect). I've noticed it is setting position: fixed in the CSS. The JavaScript however is obfuscated. What's the easiest way to achieve this effect? Is there a jQuery plugin available?

  Been searching for an answer to this for the better part of an hour without much luck. I have two regional tables laid out with the same column names and I can put out a result list for either table based on the following query (swap Table2 for Table1): SELECT Table1.YEAR, FORMAT(COUNT(Table1.id),0) AS Total FROM Table1 WHERE Table1.variable='Y' GROUP BY Table1.YEAR Ideally I'd like to get a result that gives me a total sum of the counts by year, so instead of: | REGION 1 | | REGION 2 | | YEAR | Total | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 5 | | 2010 | 1 | | 2009 | 2 | | 2009 | 3 | | | | | 2008 | 4 | I'd have: | MERGED | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 6 | | 2009 | 5 | | 2008 | 4 | I've tried a variety of JOINs and other ideas but I think I'm caught up on the SUM and COUNT issue.   I currently have data that is in the following format (note, this is 1 column, 4 row matrix): aa|bb bb|cc|ee|ee cc cc|ee and I want it displayed so that the column names are: aa, bb, cc, dd, and ee. And I want there to be 4 row such that each row counts the number of times each string was present in the matching row above. ie) aa bb cc dd ee 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 2 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 Does anyone know how to do this in R? • Any way for linq query to check against existing select?

I was wondering if its possible to have a where clause that ascertains whether that offer already exists in that select statement and if so obviously to ignore it. In my views I define several actions like this: @actions = { :interest => {'Show interest', link_to(..), :disabled => true}, :follow => {'Follow this case', link_to(..)} ... } As these hashes grow, the maintainability decreases. I want to convert the above format to something like: actions do item :interest, 'Show interest', link_to(..), :disabled => true item :follow, 'Follow', link_to(..) ... end How do I structure my helper methods to allow this?   I have created a application in c# , it reads excel file and after checking some conditions, it select a row to be written in another Excel File. Everything is working fine, but i need to end the file with the DateTime.Now.ToString(). string date = DateTime.Now.ToString(); ExcelWorkSheet2.Cells[newFileRow, 1] = date; When I see the file created, it shows "########" symbol instead of actual date. When I select that cell , it changes to correct date format. What may be going wrong?

  Greetings. I am querying tables from Microsoft SQL 2008 which have date split across 3 columns: day, month and year. Unfortunately, I do not have control over this because data is coming in to the database daily from a 3rd party source in that format. I need to add between to a where clause so user can pull records within a range. Would be easy enough if date was in a single column but finding it nearly impossible when its split across three columns. To display the date, I am doing a CAST( CAST(year as varchar(4)) + '-' + CAST(month as varchar(2)) + '-' + CAST(day as varchar(2)) as date) AS "date"` in a select. I tried to put it as a parameter for datediff function or just the regular between but get no results. Thanks for any help.

  In general, should one design in order to place processing load on client-side? More specifically, a search engine to locate subscriber information requires a fair amount of parsing (multiple phone numbers to sort and format, hour of day, timezone, comparisons for possible substitutions of user information, etc.). Again, in general, is it preferred that one have client-side do the work? It seems to me 'yes' in a situation in which one will have many thousands of hits per minute. Use php for quick database queries ... process retrieved data client-side. yes ... no?

When i check in excel sheet, on that cell right clicked , say format cell I got "1.845E-07" value in sample section. How to get exact value? • Gradient boosting predictions in low-latency production environments?

  Can anyone recommend a strategy for making predictions using a gradient boosting model in the <10-15ms range (the faster the better)? I have been using R's gbm package, but the first prediction takes ~50ms (subsequent vectorized predictions average to 1ms, so there appears to be overhead, perhaps in the call to the C++ library). As a guideline, there will be ~10-50 inputs and ~50-500 trees. The task is classification and I need access to predicted probabilities. I know there are a lot of libraries out there, but I've had little luck finding information even on rough prediction times for them. The training will happen offline, so only predictions need to be fast -- also, predictions may come from a piece of code / library that is completely separate from whatever does the training (as long as there is a common format for representing the trees).

• PHP --> SQL Server + Excel file upload from a specific row

  I have a requirement in which, i need to upload an excel file into SQL Server database. It is working well till this point. But sometimes i am getting excel file in such a way, that the first 2 rows and columns are empty rows. That is not even fixed every time. so the format of the table after upload is not as expected. It is assigning F1, F2 as column names for the table in SQL Server. It varies from file to file. I want to program it in such away so that the user can enter the row number and the column number from where the actual data is starting. So that while upload it should from line 3 and column 2. I don't know how to specify that row and column while uploading. Please help me to solve the same.
