• Html.EditorFor not updating model on post

  I have a complex type composed of two nullable DateTimes: public class Period { public DateTime? Start { get; set; } public DateTime? End { get; set; } public static implicit operator string(Period period) { /* converts from Period to string */ } public static implicit operator Period(string value) { /* and back again */ } } I want to display them together in a single textbox as a date range so I can provide a nice jQuery UI date range selector. [HttpPost] public ActionResult ReportByRange(FormCollection formValues) { Period reportPeriod = formValues["ReportPeriod"]; // creates a Period, with the expected values } The problem is if I replace the FormCollection with the model type I'm passing to the view then the ReportPeriod property never gets set. [HttpPost] public ActionResult ReportByRange(ReportViewModel viewModel) { Period reportPeriod = viewModel.ReportPeriod; // this is null } I expected MVC would try to set the string from the textbox to that property and it would automatically generate a Period (as in my FormCollection example), but it's not. How do I tell the textbox I've generated in the custom editor to poplate that property on the model?

• using grails and google app engine to store image as blob and the view dynamically

  I am trying to dynamically display an image that I am storing in the google datastore as a Blob. I am not getting any errors but I am getting a broken image on the page that I view. Any help would be awesome!   I'm using the AutoCompleteExtender from the AJAX control toolkit on my aspx page - I have it wired up to a WCF service that is returning a string array and everything works happily. If I change my service definition to include a demand for the caller to be authenticated, like so: <OperationContract(), PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Authenticated:=True)> _ Public Function GetLookupValues(ByVal prefixText As String, ByVal count As Integer, ByVal contextKey As String) As String() Then the autocomplete extender stops working, and I get an authentication error in the service. The service is set up to use ASPNetCompatibility mode, and I was hoping that the extender would pass the authentication credentials for my logged in user - does anyone know how to make this work?

  I am trying to formulate a work-around for the lack of a "checkbox group" in ASP.NET MVC. The typical way to implement this is to have check boxes of the same name, each with the value it represents. <input type="checkbox" name="n" value=1 /> <input type="checkbox" name="n" value=2 /> <input type="checkbox" name="n" value=3 /> When submitted, it will comma delimit all values to the request item "n".. so Request["n"] == "1,2,3" if all three are checked when submitted. In ASP.NET MVC, you can have a parameter of n as an array to accept this post. public ActionResult ActionName( int[] n ) { ... } All of the above works fine. The problem I have is that when validation fails, the check boxes are not restored to their checked state. Any suggestions. • C# XBAP QueryString (BrowserInteropHelper.Source.Query) Above 2080 Characters Problem

  I'm passing a very long argument string to a C# XBAP application, and I'm using the BrowserInteropHelper.Source.Query method to read the argument string. But, for some reason, everytime the string for the arguments goes about 2080 characters, the application fails. Have I exceeded the maximum length? Any help would be fantastic!

• JPA : optimize EJB-QL query involving large many-to-many join table

  Hi all. I'm using Hibernate Entity Manager 3.4.0.GA with Spring 2.5.6 and MySql 5.1. I have a use case where an entity called Artifact has a reflexive many-to-many relation with itself, and the join table is quite large (1 million lines). As a result, the HQL query performed by one of the methods in my DAO takes a long time. Any advice on how to optimize this and still use HQL ? Or do I have no choice but to switch to a native SQL query that would perform a join between the table ARTIFACT and the join table ARTIFACT_DEPENDENCIES ? • jsonSerializer.DeserializeObject and arrays

  I have a column in the a database with values like the below. [{"noteText":"Today was sunny.","noteDate":"2010-03-30 10:06:22"},{"noteDate":"2010-04-06 13:21:36","noteText":"Today was windy."}] I think they are from an array of objects serialized via flash to Json. What I need to do is pull out the noteText and noteDate values only and record them back to the database as a normal string. I was hoping to just deserialize back to objects and build up a string from there, however, due to my unfamiliarity with c# and .Net I've hit a brick wall trying to deserialize the string. var obj = jsonSerializer.DeserializeObject(ns); Am I going in the right direction or should I be looking at doing some string manipulation? Any pointers much appreciated.

• Logging Into a site that uses Live.com authentication with C#

  I've been trying to automate a log in to a website I frequent, www.bungie.net. The site is associated with Microsoft and Xbox Live, and as such makes uses of the Windows Live ID API when people log in to their site. I am relatively new to creating web spiders/robots, and I worry that I'm misunderstanding some of the most basic concepts. I've simulated logins to other sites such as Facebook and Gmail, but live.com has given me nothing but trouble. Anyways, I've been using Wireshark and the Firefox addon Tamper Data to try and figure out what I need to post, and what cookies I need to include with my requests. As far as I know these are the steps one must follow to log in to this site. 1. Visit https: //login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1268167141&rver=5.5.4177.0&wp=LBI&wreply=http:%2F%2Fwww.bungie.net%2FDefault.aspx&id=42917 2. Recieve the cookies MSPRequ and MSPOK. 3. Post the values from the form ID "PPSX", the values from the form ID "PPFT", your username, your password all to a changing URL similar to: https: //login.live.com/ppsecure/post.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct= (there are a few numbers that change at the end of that URL) 4. Live.com returns the user a page with more hidden forms to post. The client then posts the values from the form "ANON", the value from the form "ANONExp" and the values from the form "t" to the URL: http ://www.bung ie.net/Default.aspx?wa=wsignin1.0 5. After posting that data, the user is returned a variety of cookies the most important of which is "BNGAuth" which is the log in cookie for the site. Where I am having trouble is on fifth step, but that doesn't neccesarily mean I've done all the other steps correctly. I post the data from "ANON", "ANONExp" and "t" but instead of being returned a BNGAuth cookie, I'm returned a cookie named "RSPMaybe" and redirected to the home page. When I review the Wireshark log, I noticed something that instantly stood out to me as different between the log when I logged in with Firefox and when my program ran. It could be nothing but I'll include the picture here for you to review. I'm being returned an HTTP packet from the site before I post the data in the fourth step.   I need a help with setting a random image using setImageResource method. In the drawable folder, I have a jpeg file named photo0.jpg, photo1.jpg...photo99.jpg. And the following code works: int p = R.drawable.photo1; image.setImageResource(p); The above will display photo1.jpg but I want to show a random image. I tried the following but it doesn't work. • General type conversion without risking Exceptions

  I am working on a control that can take a number of different datatypes (anything that implements IComparable). I need to be able to compare these with another variable passed in. If the main datatype is a DateTime, and I am passed a String, I need to attempt to convert the String to a DateTime to perform a Date comparison. if the String cannot be converted to a DateTime then do a String comparison. So I need a general way to attempt to convert from any type to any type. Easy enough, .Net provides us with the TypeConverter class. Now, the best I can work out to do to determine if the String can be converted to a DateTime is to use exceptions. If the ConvertFrom raises an exception, I know I cant do the conversion and have to do the string comparison. CanConvertFrom only dermines if it is possible to convert between these types and doesnt consider the actual data to be converted. The IsValid method is also useless. Any ideas? EDIT I cannot use AS and IS. I do not know either data types at compile time. So I dont know what to As and Is to!!! EDIT Ok nailed the bastard. Its not as tidy as Marc Gravells, but it works (I hope). Thanks for the inpiration Marc.   I've just finished my first ASP.NET MVC (2) CMS. Next step is to build website that will show data from CMS's database. This is website design: #1 (Red box) - displays article categories. Viewmodel: public class ArticleDisplay { public ArticleDisplay() { } public int CategoryID { set; get; } public string CategoryTitle { set; get; } public int ArticleID { set; get; } public string ArticleTitle { set; get; } public string URLArticleTitle { set; get; } public DateTime ArticleDate; public string ArticleContent { set; get; } } #3 (green box) - Displays last x articles. Uses the same ViewModel as brown box #2 #4 (blue box) - Displays list of upcoming events. Uses dataContext.Model.Event as ViewModel Boxes #1, #2 and #4 will repeat all over the site and they are part of Master Page. So, my question is: what is the best way to transfer this data from Model to Controller and finally to View pages? Should I make a controller for master page and ViewModel class that will wrap all this classes together OR Should I create partial Views for every of these boxes and make each of them inherit appropriate class (if it is even possible that it works this way?) OR Should I put this repeated code in all controllers and all additional data transfer via ViewData, which would be probably the worse way :) OR There is maybe a better and more simple way but I don't know/see it?   I am having trouble using impersonation to delete a PerformanceCounterCategory from an MVC website. I have a static class and when the application starts it checks whether or not a PerformanceCounterCategory exists, and if it contains the correct counters. If not, it deletes the category and creates it again with the required counters. Boxes being used: Web Box SQL Box SQL Test Box My Application: I've got aASP.NET Web Application, which references a class library that uses LINQ-to-SQL. Connection string set up properly in the class library. As per http://stackoverflow.com/questions/97594/login-failed-for-user-username-system-data-sqlclient-sqlexception-with-linq-i I also added this connection string to the Web Application. The connection string uses SQL credentials as so (in both web app and class library): <add name="Namespace.My.MySettings.ConnectionStringProduction" connectionString="Data Source=(SQL Test Box);Initial Catalog=(db name);Persist Security Info=True;User ID=ID;Password=Password" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> This connection confirmed as working via adding it to server explorer. This is the connection string my .dbml file is using. The problem: I get the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\MACHINENAME$'. Now referencing this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1269706/the-error-login-failed-for-user-nt-authority-iusr-in-asp-net-and-sql-server-2 it says that's really the local network service and using any other non-domain name will not work. But I am confused because I've checked both SQL Box and SQL Test Box SQL Management Studio and both have NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE under Security - Logins, at the database level, that isn't listed under Security - Users, but at the database level Security - Users I have the user displayed in the connection string. At NTFS level on web server, the permissions have NETWORK SERVICE has full control. The reason why I am confused is because I have many other web applications on my Web Server, that reference databases on both SQL Box and SQL Test Box, and they all work. But I cannot find a difference between them and my current application, other than I am using a class library. Will that matter? Checking NTFS permissions, setup of Security Logins at the server and databases levels, connection string and method of connecting (SQL Server credentials), and IIS application pool and other folder options, are all the same. Why do these applications work without adding the machinename$ to the permissions of either of my SQL boxes? But that is what the one link is telling me to do to fix this problem.

  Disclaimer: I'm completely clueless about .net and COM. I have a vendor's application that appears to be written in .net and I'm trying to wrap it with a web form (a cgi-bin Perl script) so I can eventually launch this vendor's app from a separate computer. I'm on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SE SP1 system and I'm using Apache 2.2 for the web server and ActivePerl 5.10.0.1004 for the cgi script. My cgi script calls the vendor's app that resides on the same machine using the Perl backtick operator. ... $result = "Result: " . `$vendorsPath/$vendorsExecutable $arg1 $arg2`; ... Right now I'm just running IE web browser locally on the server machine and accessing "http://localhost/cgi-bin/myPerlScript.pl". The vendor's app fails and logs a debug message that includes the following stack trace (I changed a couple names so as to not give away the vendor's identity): ... I actually developed my web script there and got it completely working there before I tried moving it to the Windows Server 2003 machine. So what's different about the Windows Server 2003 machine that would keep the vendor's .net app from being executed successfully by a web cgi script? Can I fix this problem somehow to make it work on my server or will the vendor have to make a change to their .net app and ship out a new version? I'm probably the only person in the world who is trying to execute this vendor's app from a separate program, so I hate to bother the vendor with the issue if there's a workaround that I can implement myself here on my server machine. Plus, I'm in kind of a hurry and I don't want to wait 4 or 6 months for the vendor to put in a fix and deploy a new version. Thanks for any advise you can give.

I'e built the tool chain (which took a LOT longer than I was expecting!!) and I've compiled the C++ code with no problems and now I'm trying to build the java code.   Hi, I'm having difficulty getting data from a textbox into a Controller. I've read about a few ways to accomplish this in Sanderson's book, Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework, but haven't had any success. Also, I've ran across a few similiar questions online, but haven't had any success there either. Seems like I'm missing something rather fundamental. Currently, I'm trying to use the action method parameters approach. Can someone point out where I'm going wrong or provide a simple example? Thanks in advance! I plan on doing this in the List method (which is already functional), however, I'm using the SearchResults method for debugging.   I've started a new project in WPF 4 (.NET 4) and trying to see if I can run it in xbap mode. I need to run the application in Full Trust with the new mode made available in .NET 4 which asks the end user if the full trust application should be run.
