  Hi, I have a view rendering a stream using the response BinaryWrite method. This all worked fine under ASP.NET 4 using the Beta 2 but throws this exception in the RC release: "HttpException" , "OutputStream is not available when a custom TextWriter is used." <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" %> <%@ Import Namespace="System.IO" %> <script runat="server"> protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewData["Error"] == null) { Response.Buffer = true; Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = ViewData["DocType"] as string; Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", ViewData["Disposition"] as string); Response.CacheControl = "No-cache"; MemoryStream stream = ViewData["DocAsStream"] as MemoryStream; Response.BinaryWrite(stream.ToArray()); Response.Flush(); Response.Close(); } } </script> </script> The view is generated from a client side redirect (jquery replace location call in the previous page using Url.Action helper to render the link of course). • Unable to enable FTP access of Mac OSX Snow Leopard

  When I try to enable the FTP service in the preferences (File Sharing-Options-Share Files and Folders Using FTP) the check box enables and then disables again. The console is giving me the message : 16/04/2010 12:14:20 com.apple.coreservicesd[51] sh: launchctl: command not found This indicates to me that it can't find the launchctl executable launchctl is present in the folder /bin /bin is set in the PATH variable for sh and bash shells and also in the ~/.MacOS/environment.plist How can I fix this so that my preferences can find this so that I can enable the FTP service.

I'm using the latest version of FB and jQuery on Rails. • Problem with ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript in WebControl nested in UpdatePanel

  Hello, I am having what I believe should be a fairly simple problem, but for the life of me I cannot see my problem. The problem is related to ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript, something I have used many times before. The scenario I have is that I have a custom web control that has been inserted into a page. The control (and one or two others) are nested inside an UpdatePanel. They are inserted onto the page onto a PlaceHolder: <asp:UpdatePanel ID="pnlAjax" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:PlaceHolder ID="placeholder" runat="server"> </asp:PlaceHolder> ... protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e){ placeholder.Controls.Add(Factory.CreateControl()); base.OnInit(e); } This is the only update panel on the page. The control requires some initial javascript be run for it to work correctly. The control calls: ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, GetType(), Guid.NewGuid().ToString(), script, true); and I have also tried: ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(Page, Page.GetType(), Guid.NewGuid().ToString(), script, true); The problem is that the script runs correctly when the page is first displayed, but does not re-run after a partial postback. I have tried the following: Calling RegisterStartupScript from CreateChildControls Calling RegisterStartupScript from OnLoad / OnPreRender Using different combinations of parameters for the first two parameters (in the example above the Control is Page and Type is GetType(), but I have tried using the control itself, etc). I have tried using persistent and new ids (not that I believe this should have a major impact either way). I have used a few breakpoints and so have verified that the Register line is being called correctly. The only thing I have not tried is using the UpdatePanel itself as the Control and Type, as I do not believe the control should be aware of the update panel (and in any case there does not seem to be a good way of getting the update panel?). Can anyone see what I might be doing wrong in the above? Thanks :)

Ubuntu runs fine, but it doesn't recognize that the notebook LCD is 1388x768 and thus only offers 1024x768 and 800x600 as monitor resolution. So .. how can I tell it about that higher resolution? (Have root pwd & vi, una-bash-ed to use both.. )

  Hi I've got an unexpected problem. I'm making a script to update the schema on a SQL CE database. This won't run: if not exists ( Select column_name from information_schema.columns where column_name = 'TempTestField' and table_name = 'Inventory_Master_File' ) Alter table Inventory_Master_File add TempTestField nvarchar(10) null I think this is because I'm using stuff that isn't supported in SQL CE. Anyone know how to do this? I've tried rearranging the script and can't get anything to work. I tried "alter table ... where not exists ...". Note that the "select" part runs fine and also the "alter" part. The problem is "if not exists". I know there are some other postings regarding problems like this using SQL CE but I couldn't find an answer to this particular problem. Cheers Mark UPDATE: I've spent over an hour looking for a solution. I've found many postings asking for help with similar problems but I've still got no idea how to fix it. I really don't want to do this in C# code. I need to do this in a SQL script. I can't believe something this basic is causing so much difficulty :(

  Hello Everyone, I am encountering a very annoying problem with IE. Basically I need to set the source of an IFrame using JavaScript, however the source document is being executed twice not once during each call. The simplified HTML code is pasted below (I simplified it so that readers can understand it quickly. The source is being set through JavaScript since it will contain dynamic content): <html> <head> <title>Iframe test</title> </head> <body> <iframe id="testIframe" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="" width="800" height="600"></iframe> <script language="JavaScript"> document.getElementById("testIframe").src = "http://localhost/test.php"; </script> </body> </html> In this example, test.php inserts a record inside a local database once called. Whenever the page above is called using IE, two rows are being inserted on most occasions (sometimes only 1 row is inserted but this is not the norm). I tested the same script on Chrome and Opera and it works correctly on them so this must be an IE issue. If is set the src directly inside the iframe tag IE starts behaving correctly, however I need to be able to build the URL using javascript.   I'm trying to get this script to work. It's basically supposed to mirror two sets of folders and make sure they are exactly the same. If a folder is missing, the folder and it's content should be copied. Then the script should compare the DateModified attribute and only copy the files if the source file is newer than the destination file. I'm trying to get together a script that does exactly that. And so far I've been able to check all subfolder if they exist and then create them if they don't. Then I've been able to scan the top source folder for it's files and copy them if they don't exist or if the DateModified attribute is newer on the source file. What remains is basically scanning each subfolder for its files and copy them if they don't exist or if the DateModified stamp is newer.   I installed Linux Mint 12 on my Dell Studio 15 and everything worked perfectly up until I tried updating the STA Driver for the Broadcom (BCM4312) wireless controller. I've tried these bash commands in order and I still don't have wireless. sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer I've also tried uninstalling everything with synaptic package manager including broadcom-sta-common and broadcom-sta-source, then restarting and running the above commands which didn't work either. What's the best way to do this on a Dell Studio 15?

• How to solve "catastrophic failure" with 32-bit COM component in SysWOW64\cscript or wscript

  I'm trying to run a VBScript script that uses a 7-year-old 3rd-party 32-bit COM component on Windows Server 2008 R2, with the command-line 32-bit script host, SysWOW64\cscript.exe. When I call CreateObject on the class, it appears to be successful, but the very first time I try to use a property or method (I've tried several different ones) on the object, it gives me the "catastrophic failure". I have identical results with SysWOW64\wscript.exe, except, of course, that my error message comes in a msgbox instead of the command-line window. I think this has to do specifically with the 64-bit scripting hosts because of the following: The equivalent Classic ASP script, calling the same component and using 95% of the same code, works correctly on the same server, with IIS configured to support 32-bit COM. The same VBScript works correctly on a 32-bit Windows XP machine and a 32-bit Windows Server 2003 machine. The component fails in exactly the same way on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine. My Google searches for solutions to this problem have mostly turned up a lot of different problems that were solved by putting the COM component into a toolbar in Visual Studio. Obviously, that solution doesn't apply here. My questions are: Is there a core problem that is always behind a "catastrophic failure" from a Windows scripting host calling a COM component? Is there a place in a configuration snap-in, or in the registry, where I need to make a change similar to the change I had to make to the IIS Application pool to "Enable 32-bit Applications"? Is there a general place in the Server 2008 R2 Event Viewer that I should be looking, to see if there are any more details on the failure, in case it turns out to be specific to this component? • Getting past dates in HP-UX with ksh

  Ok, so I need to translate a script from a nice linux & bash configuration to ksh in hp-ux. Each and every command expects a different syntax and i want to kill myself. But let's skip the rant. This is part of my script anterior=`date +"%Y%0m" -d '1 month ago'` I basically need to get a past date in format 201002. Never mind the thing that, in the new environment, %0m means "no zeroes", while actually in the other one it means "yes, please put that zero on my string". It doesn't even accept the "1 month ago". I've read the man date for HP-UX and it seems you just can't do date arithmetic with it. I've been looking around for a while but all i find are lengthy solutions. I can't quite understand that such a typical administrative task like adding dates needs so much fuss. Isn't there a way to convert my one-liner to, well, i don't know, another one? Come on, i've seen proposed solutions that used bc, had thirty plus lines and magic number all over the script. The simplest solutions seem to use perl... but i don't know how to modify them, as they're quite arcane. Thanks!

  I've been reading through quite a few articles on the 'this' keyword when using JavaScript objects and I'm still somewhat confused. I'm quite happy writing object orientated Javascript and I get around the 'this' issue by referring the full object path but I don't like the fact I still find 'this' confusing. I found a good answer here which helped me but I'm still not 100% sure. So, onto the example. Also, I'm not entirely sure why the first 'console.log' is being called at all? If I remove the call to the init function //nick.lowman.init() firebug still outputs 1. Window test.html, undefined. • Uploadify - Passing Information Back to The Original Form

  I have an Send.aspx page that has an uploadify control on it. Upload.ashx handles the file upload. I am adding a file record to a sql database in the Upload.ashx file and I need to get the ID of that record back from Upload.aspx when it is done. Can't get it working with Sessions. =( Something to do with an Adobe bug? What would the best way to handle this be? • Uploadify: Passing a form's ID as a parameter with scriptData

  I need the ability to have multiple upload inputs on one page (potentially hundreds) using Uploadify. The upload PHP file will be renaming the uploaded file based on the ID of the input button used to submit it, so it will need that ID. Since I will be having hundreds of upload buttons on one page, I wanted to create a universal instantiation, so I did this using the class of the forms rather than the ID of the forms. However, when one of the inputs is clicked, I would like to pass the ID of that input as scriptData to the PHP. This is not working; PHP says 'formId' is undefined. Is there a good way get the ID attribute of the form input being used, and passing it to the upload PHP? Or is there a completely different and better method of accomplishing this?
