• Using ASP.NET Session for Lifetime Management (Unity)

  I am considering using Unity to manage the lifetime of a custom user class instance. I am planning on extending the LifetimeManager with a custom ASP.NET session manager. What I want to be able to do is store and retrieve the currently logged in user object from my custom classes, and have Unity get the instance of User from the session object in ASP.NET, or (when in a Win32 project) retrieve it statically or from the current thread. So far my best solution is to create a static instance of my Unity container on startup, and use the Resolve method to get my User object from each of my classes. However, this seems to create a dependency on the unity container in my other classes. What is the more "Unity" way of accomplishing this goal? I would like to be able to read/replace the current User instance from any class.

• GAE uploading to database - or - how to create big dictionary in GAE?

  Hi, I have a GAE application. A new request is to have a huge database to store many items for some functionality. The database needs to populated every week or so - and populating it is done by querying many external links which overall takes around 1-2 hours. So, doing it via GAE Cron is now out of the question. Another option I was thinking was to create it in external server and then uploading it to GAE DB. Is it possible to upload the data created externally to GAE DB straightaway? The question is because there will be close to 10 M items in it, so adding items individually to a DB is not going to work due to 30 second time limit. Thanks K

• How do I fix SVC-FILWRT on Windows?

  I have to do some processing (enhancing metadata) on the XML document that are on my Marklogic database. For that I have created a new HTTP server that is pointing towards the database. Using that HTTP server, I write a XQuey that loop through all the XML documents in Marklogic database and send these XML documents to particular URL that reads the content from that document, append some metadata and then store back to ML. This is something I have tried on Linux platform with same version of Marklogic and it works great for me. But now, when I am trying the same on window platform (Windows 7 Enterprise addition) and it's not working. Approaches I tried to resolve that: Running Marklogic Server as "Run as Administrator". Putting HTTP server's Base directory into D:/ directory i.e. directory that does not have windows installed within it. Above same with putting forest to D:/ directory.   I am given the following declaration: char inbuff[500], *ptr; int n, bufferlen; Write a program segement to receive a message having 500 bits from the TCP socket sock and store this message in inbuff. My answer is: n = recv( sock, inbuff, strlen( inbuff ), 0 ); However, I am not sure why *ptr is given in the declaration. So, I would like ask, what is the purpose of the pointer in this question??   The documentation is pretty confusing on this one: The implementation of accessor methods you write for subclasses of NSManagedObject is typically different from those you write for other classes. If you do not provide custom instance variables, you retrieve property values from and save values into the internal store using primitive accessor methods. You must ensure that you invoke the relevant access and change notification methods (willAccessValueForKey:, didAccessValueForKey:, willChangeValueForKey:, didChangeValueForKey:, willChangeValueForKey:withSetMutation:usingObjects:, and didChangeValueForKey:withSetMutation:usingObjects:). NSManagedObject disables automatic key-value observing (KVO, see Key-Value Observing Programming Guide) change notifications, and the primitive accessor methods do not invoke the access and change notification methods. In accessor methods for properties that are not defined in the entity model, you can either enable automatic change notifications or invoke the appropriate change notification methods. • File Encrypt/Decrypt under load?

  I found an interesting article about encrypting and decrypting files but since it uses a file.dat to store the key this will run into problems when theres alot of users on the site dealing with alot of files. http://www.codeproject.com/KB/security/VernamEncryption.aspx?display=Print Should a new file be created every time a file needs decrypting or would there be a better way to do this? • Passing a 2D array to a function in C

  I have, essentially, a matrix of data (lets say ints) that I would like to store in a 2D array in which the dimensions are not known until runtime (say x columns and y rows). What this sp is doing is joining 12 tables and get the data and insert it into another table. it has 7 left outer joins and 4 inner joins.And returns one row of data. • How to set up a has-many relationship in Cocoa?

  I'm building a (very) simple FTP app in Cocoa, and I need to store information on the different types of servers that are supported. So, I've created a ServerType class, which stores all of the relevant information about a single type of server. I then have a ServerTypes class which is designed to manage all of the ServerType classes that are created. My question is how to set up the relationship between the two objects. Is there a preferred method to do so? Also, since Objective-C doesn't support non-instance classes, where should I create an instance of ServerTypes that will have to be used throughout the entire program? Or is there a better way to do that? I need it to be KVC compliant so That I can bind one of the ServerType properties to an NSPopupBox. Sorry about the large volume of questions, I'm fairly new to Cocoa and Objective-C. If you need to see code, just ask and I'll be happy to add some. :) SphereCat1

• Storing users in a database

  Im wondering whats the best way of storing different types of users in my database. I am writing an application that has 4 main user types (admin, school, teacher, student). At the moment I have a table for each of these but i'm not sure thats the best way of storing user information. For instance... Allowing students to PM other student is simple (store sender and receiver student_id) but enabling teachers to PM students requires another table (sender teacher_id, sender student_id). Should all users be stored in one users table with a user_type field? If so, the teacher / student specific information will still have to be stored in another table. users user_id, password_hash, user_type students user_id, student_specific_stuff... teachers user_id, teacher_specific_stuff... How do I stop a user who has a user_type = student from being accidentally being entered into the teachers table (as both have a user_id) Just want to make sure I get the database correct before i go any further.   I need to store a undirected graph in a Google App Engine database. For optimization purposes, I am thinking to use database indexes. Using Google App Engine, is there any way to define the columns of a database table to create its index? I will need some optimization, since my app uses this stored undirected graph on a content-based filtering for item recommendation. Also, the recommender algorithm updates the weights of some graph's edges. If it is not possible to use database indexes, please suggest another method to reduce query time for the graph table. I believe my algorithm does more data retrieval operations from graph table than write operations. PS: I am using Python.

• Multiple SSL Certificates Running on Mac OS X 10.6

  I have been running into walls with this for a while, so I posted at stackoverflow, and I was pointed over here... I am attempting to setup multiple IP addresses on Snow Leopard so that I can develop with SSL certificates. I am running XAMPP - I don't know if that is the problem, but I guess I would run into the same problems, considering the built in apache is turned off. So first up I looked into starting up the IPs on start up. I got up an running with a new StartupItem that runs correctly, because I can ping the ip address: ping 127.0.0.2 ping 127.0.0.1 And both of them work. So now I have IP addresses, which as you may know are not standard on OSx. I edited the /etc/hosts file to include the new sites too: 127.0.0.1 site1.local 127.0.0.2 site2.local I had already changed the httpd.conf to use the httpd-vhosts.conf - because I had a few sites running on the one IP address. I have edited the vhosts file so a site looks like this: <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80> DocumentRoot "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1/web" ServerName site1.local <Directory "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1"> Order deny,allow Deny from All Allow from 127.0.0.1 AllowOverride All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:443> DocumentRoot "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1/web" ServerName site1.local SSLEngine On SSLCertificateFile "/Applications/XAMPP/etc/ssl-certs/myssl.crt" SSLCertificateKeyFile "/Applications/XAMPP/etc/ssl-certs/myssl.key" SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/Users/jim/Documents/Projects/site1"> Order deny,allow Deny from All Allow from 127.0.0.1 AllowOverride All </Directory> </VirtualHost> In the above code, you can change the 1's to 2's and it is the setup for the second site. They do use the same certificate, which is why they are on different IP addresses. I also included the NameVirtualHost information at the top of the file: NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.2:80 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:443 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.2:443 I can ping site1.local and site2.local. I can use telnet ( telnet site2.local 80 ) to get into both sites. But in Safari I can only get to the first site1.local - navigating to site2.local gives me either the localhost main page (which is included in the vhosts) or gives me a Access forbidden!. I am usure what to do, any suggestions would be awesome.

• Can getAttribute() method of Tomcat ServletContext implementation be called without synchronization?

  I would like to read some parameters during servlet initializtion (in init() method), and store them among servlet context attributes (using getServletContext().setAttribute()). I would like to read these parameters later - during some request processing (using getServletContext().getAttribute()). So, the multiple threads could do this simultaneously. My question is if such an attempt is safe? Could I be sure that multi threaded calls to the getAttribute() don't mess up any internal state of the servlet context? Please take into account that I'm not going to call the setAttribute() anywhere besides the initialization. So, only calls to the getAttribute() are going to be done from multiple threads. But depending on the internal implementation, this also could be dangerous. So, any information about Tomcat's implementation would be appreciated.

• how to use expressons as function parameters in powershell

  This is a very simple task in every language I have ever used, but I can't seem to figure it out in PowerShell. An example of what I'm talking about in C: abs(x + y) The expression x + y is evaluated, and the result passed to abs as the parameter... how do I do that in PowerShell? The only way I have figured out so far is to create a temporary variable to store the result of the expression, and pass that. PowerShell seems to have very strange grammar and parsing rules that are constantly catching me by surprise, just like this situation. Does anyone know of documentation or a tutorial that explains the basic underlying theory of the language? I can't believe these are all special cases, there must be some rhyme or reason that no tutorial I have yet read explains. And yes, I've read this question, and all of those tutorials are awful. I've pretty much been relegated to learning from existing code.

  Hello everybody, I have created an array with: var msg = new Array(); then, I have a function that add values to this array, this function is: function add(time, user, text){ var message = [time, user, text]; if (msg.length >= 50) msg.shift(); msg.push(message); } As you can see, if the array has 50 or more elements I remove the first with .shift(). Then I add an array as element. Ok, the code works perfectly, but now I have to loop the msg array to create a JSON obj. The JSON object should has this format: var obj = [ {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text}, {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text}, {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text} ] I mean...i have to loop msg array and then store all the values inside the JSON object. I do not know how to "concatenate" the element of the array inside json obj. Could you help me? Thank you very much in advance!

• Website redirect during maintenece but still with testing acces

  I have an online store that i have recently re-written most of and would like to upload it to my server. While the maintenance is taking place, i would like to redirect all visitors to an "under construction" page. (easily done with php or apache htacess etc...) The issue is that I would like to test everything when i upload it so i still need access while blocking everyone else. I was thinking some php page that is open to all with a cookie flag i could set for just myself? What is the best way to do this? Thanks jme

  I am working on a project (that i will not be releasing to the app store - just for fun) that will upload an image via an HTTP Post request from my iPhone to a server that I have running the Python script SimpleHTTPServer. I have successfully used the ASIHTTP APIs in the past for text strings, but can't for the life of me figure out how to upload an image. • How to format a string as a telephone number in C#

  I have a string "1112224444' it is a telephone number. I want to format as 111-222-4444 before I store it in a file. It is on a datarecord and I would prefer to be able to do this without assigning a new variable. I was thinking: String.Format("{0:###-###-####}", i["MyPhone"].ToString() ); but that does not seem to do the trick. ** UPDATE ** Ok. I went with this solution Convert.ToInt64(i["Customer Phone"]).ToString("###-###-#### ####") Now its gets messed up when the extension is less than 4 digits. It will fill in the numbers from the right. so 1112224444 333 becomes 11-221-244 3334 Any ideas?

  I wrote code that injects a function in Internet Explorer/Chrome but it doesn't work with these processes. Basically, it fills one big structure with all the APIs my function needs, strings, and other data, then it opens a process to get a handle, virtualallocex to allocate enough memory to store a function and structure there, and it writes the function and the structure in allocated memory. It then runs createremotethread there with the function as a starting address and structure as parameter. It works all great with calc/notepad/winamp processes but I have problems with browser injection. I'm wondering what could it be, I'm using these APIs. x.xCreateFile x.xWriteFile x.xCloseHandle x.xSleep x.xVirtualAlloc x.xVirtualFree x.xMessageBox x.xLoadLibrary x.xShellExecute Is it because browsers are protected now and they're running with lowest privileges?

• What Database to distribute as part of a C# app backend

  I am planning on writing and commercialising a C# app which will store data in an underlying database I use MySQL on my environment for my own development and this is what I would have used to write the application for myself (no need to use FK - MyISAM engine would be fine). I am concerned about how easy it will be to distribute the app together with the database engine. Would using MySQL allow me for easy packaging of the app for a "one-click" install on the client side? (ie I do not want them to have to install MySQL by themselves) and also is it feasible from a licensing point of view? Are there other Database systems which would make the process more straight-forward

• Selenium RC: How to click buttons that use onclick window.location?

  I have a button (outside of a form) that redirects to another page using the onclick attribute that calls window.location to redirect the user to another page. This time I can't change the HTML. I am using Safari 4 for testing. How can I click a button that uses the onclick attribute and window.location to redirect using Safari 4 and Selenium RC PHPUnit Extension? Here's my HTML: <input type="button" onclick="window.location='/registrations/new'" value="Start a new registration" id="create"> Update: Alternatively, I'm thinking about doing something where I assert that a location is specified in the window.location='', store that location, and call the open() command using that location. Not sure if this is an acceptable approach to testing this.
