  • How to Increase the time till a read timeout error occurs?

    Hi all. I've written in PHP a script that takes a long time to execute [Image processing for thousands of pictures]. It's a meter of hours - maybe 5. After 15 minutes of processing, I get the error: ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved The following error was encountered while trying to retrieve the URL: The URL which I clicked Read Timeout The system returned: [No Error] A Timeout occurred while waiting to read data from the network. The network or server may be down or congested. Please retry your request. Your cache administrator is webmaster. What I need is to enable that script to run for much longer. Now, here are all the technical info: I'm writing in PHP and using the Zend Framework. I'm using Firefox. The long script that is processed is done after clicking a link. Obviously, since the script is not over I see the web page on which the link was and the web browser writes "waiting for ...". After 15 minutes the error occurs. I tried to make changes to Firefox threw about:config but without any success. I don't know, but the changes might be needed somewhere else. So, any ideas? Thanks ahead.

  • MVC ASP.NET, ObjectContext and Ajax. Weird Behaviour

    Hi, i've been creating a web application in mvc asp.net. I have three different project/solutions. One solution contains the model in EF (DAL) and all the methods to add, update, delete and query the objects in the model, the objectcontext is managed here in a per request basis. Other solution contains a content management system in wich authorized users insert, delete, update and access objects through the DAL mentioned before. And the last solution contains the web page that is accessed by all users and where the only operations executed are selects, no update, inserts or deletes here. All the selects are executed against the DAL mentioned before (the first solution). The problem here is that i'm not sure whether an HttpContext lifespan ObjectContext is the best solution. I have a lot of ajax calls in my web app and i'm not sure if an httpcontext could interfere with the performance of the application. I've been noticed that in some cases, specially when someone is working in the content manager inserting, updating or deleting, when you try to click on any link of the user web application (the web app that is accessed by any user - the third one that i mentioned before) the web page freezes and it remains stucked transferring data. In order to stop that behaviour you have to stop and refresh or click several times on the link. Excuse me for my bad english. I hope you could understand and could help me to solve this issue.   • iPhone app with tab bar and navigation bar as peers

    I'm trying to write an application that uses a navigation bar and tab bar in what (I'm gathering) is an unusual manner. Basically, I've got several "pages" ("home", "settings", etc) that each have their own tab. I'd also like to have it so that the "home" page is the root view of the navigation bar, and the other pages are the second-level views of the navigation bar. That is, I should be able to navigate to any page by clicking the appropriate tab bar item, and should be able to navigate to the home page from any other page by clicking the navigation bar's back button. Currently, I have a UINavigationBar (through a UINavigationController) and a UITabBar (through a UITabController) as children of a UIView. The various pages' view controllers are set as the tab controller's viewControllers property, and the home page's controller is also set as the navigation controller's root view. Each page view's tag is set to its index in the tab control. I have the following logic in the tab controller's didSelectViewController delegate method: - (void) tabBarController:(UITabBarController*) tabBarController didSelectViewController:(UIViewController*) viewController { if ([navController.viewControllers count] > 1) [navController popViewControllerAnimated:NO]; [navController pushViewController:viewController animated:YES]; } Also, in the navigation controller's didShowViewController delegate method, I have the following code: - (void) navigationController:(UINavigationController *) navigationController didShowViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController animated:(BOOL)animated { tabController.selectedIndex = viewController.view.tag; } The problem that's occurring is that when I run this, the navigation bar, tab bar and home page all display ok, but the tab bar will not respond to input - I cannot select a different tab. I gather it's more usual to have the tab bar as the child of the navigation control, or vice versa. This doesn't seem to fit my approach, because I don't want to have to individually create the subordinate control each time a change occurs in the parent control - eg: recreate tab bar each time the navigation bar changes. Does anyone have suggestions as to what's wrong and how to fix it? I'm probably missing something obvious, but whatever it is I can't seem to find it. Thanks! EDIT: I'm guessing it has something to do with both controller's trying to have ownership of the page controller, but I can't for the life of me figure out a way around it.

  • Using MSADO15.DLL and C++ with MinGW/GCC on Windows Vista

    INTRODUCTION Hi, I am very new to C++, is my 1st statement. I have started initially with VC++ 2008 Express, I've notice that GCC becomes kind of standard so I am trying to make the right steps event from the beginning. I have written a piece of code that connects to MSSQL Server via ADO, on VC++ it's working like a charm by importing MSADO15.dll: #import "msado15.dll" no_namespace rename("EOF", "EndOfFile") Because I am going to move from VC++ I was looking for an alternative (eventually multi-platform) IDE, so I stick (for this time) with Code::Block (I'm using last nightly buil, SVN 6181). As compiler I choose to use GCC 3.4.5 (ported via MinGW 5.1.6), under Vista. I was trying to compile a simple "hello world" application with GCC that use/import the same msado15.dll (#import "c:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO\msado15.dll" no_namespace rename("EOF", "EndOfFile")) and I was surprised to see a lot of compile-time errors. I was expected that the #import compiler's directive will generate a library from "msado15.dll" so it can link to it later (link-edit time or whatever).   • jquery question - addclass to element depending on active image in rotating banner

    I have a banner that rotates a series of three images. The active one has a display:block, while the inactive have display:none. I'm trying to match the class for the active image with an tag so that I can add an "active" class to the a tag. Having some trouble writing that function. It's adding all of the classes for each of the img elements, regardless of whether they're being displayed or not...   • Prevent checkins to SVN

    My team uses SVN for our software platform, and we create tags periodically to help keep module versions straight. Best practice, as I understand it, is not to modify a tag once it has been created. However, it seems that sometimes the temptation is too great and a modification is made to one of the tags. Is there a way to prevent these kinds of checkins, or at least make them a complete pain so that we can discourage them automatically? Thanks, Joe

I don't really understand how Lucene indexes documents and don't understand which algorithms Lucene uses for indexing?   • Selenium RC test - IE gives 403 error on Tomcat app, Tomcat root OK

    I'm new to Selenium RC, having previously used Selenium IDE and only run tests in Firefox. I'm trying to get a basic test to run using Selenium RC through Eclipse; my test works OK in Firefox, and in Safari now that I've killed the pop-up blocker, but IE8 is causing a SeleniumException to be thrown, containing an "XHR ERROR" with a 403 response: com.thoughtworks.selenium.SeleniumException: XHR ERROR: URL = http://localhost:8080/pims Response_Code = 403 Error_Message = Forbidden at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.throwAssertionFailureExceptionOrError(HttpCommandProcessor.java:97) at com.thoughtworks.selenium.HttpCommandProcessor.doCommand(HttpCommandProcessor.java:91) at com.thoughtworks.selenium.DefaultSelenium.open(DefaultSelenium.java:335) at org.pimslims.seleniumtest.FirstTest.testNew(FirstTest.java:32) ... I can do a similar test on http:/ /localhost:8080 (space between the slashes here because SO thinks I'm spamming) and it's fine - I can make IE open that Tomcat default page and click a link. It's only if I try to open my application at http:/ /localhost:8080/pims that I see this error - and only in IE. I can open that URL in IE by typing it into the address bar. I was convinced that there's some setting in IE that's causing this, but I've tried everything I can think of. http:/ /localhost:8080 is in my Trusted Sites, and I've turned the security for that zone down to the minimum, allowed anything that looks related to popups, etc. If I try adding http:/ /localhost:8080/pims/ to Trusted Sites, IE says it's already there. I've also messed around with proxy settings, to no avail, but may have missed something obvious. I've tried starting the test with *iexplore, *iehta, and *iexploreproxy - all behave the same. Is there something I've missed?   • 2-step user registration with Django

    I'm creating a website with Django and want a fairly common 2-step user registration. What I mean by this is that the user fills in the some basic user information + some application specific information (sort of like a coupon value). Upon submit, an email is sent to ensure email address is valid. This email should contain a link to click on to "finish" the registration. When the link is clicked, the user is marked as validated and they are directed to a new page to complete optional "user profile" type information. So, pretty basic stuff. I have done some research and found django-registration by James Bennett. I do know who James is and have seen him at PyCons and DjanoCons in the past. There is obviously very few people in the world that know Django better than James (so, I know the quality of the code/app is good). But, it almost seems like a bit of over kill. I've read through the docs and was a bit confused (maybe I'm just being a bit dense today). I believe that if I do use django-registration, I will need to have some custom forms, etc. Is there anything else out there I should evaluate? Or are there any good tutorials or videos on using django-registration? I've done a bit of googling, but haven't found anything. But, I suspect that it might be a case of a lot of very common words that don't really find what you are looking for (django user registration tutorial/example). Or is just a case where it would be just about as easy to build your own solution with Django forms, etc? Here is what I can find from the installation for this app: perl -v = 5.8.4 $Tk::version = '8.4' $Tk::patchlevel = '8.4' $Tk::VERSION = '804.027' So.. 1a) if there is a newer Tk VERSION that includes the patch in the link above, how do I upgrade just that module in the specific Perl installation location for this app? 1b) how do I know if that upgrade is compatible with 5.8.4 of Perl (I don't want to upgrade perl at this point) 2) if not, how do I apply that patch defined in that link?

  • Is there a workaround to the disappearing Perl/Tk text widget scrollbar for right justified content?

    I've come across a bug I believe in Perl/Tk 804.027 Text Widget (using Scrollable('ROText')). When I add a tag that selects all and apply the configuration change to justify to the right, the scrollbars do not show up. If I comment out the tagConfigure where I justify to the right, the scrollbars come back. Does anyone have a workaround or fix for being able to right justify a text widget's contents (includes text and embedded entry widgets) and still have functional horizontal scrollbars?
