• Trouble with object injection in Spring.Net

  Hi all, I have a issue with my Spring.Net configuration where its not injecting an object. I have a CommService to which an object named GeneralEmail is injected to. In one scenario, I need to call the commnucation service from an static WebMethod. I try doing: CommService cso = new CommService(); But when i try to get the emailService object, its null! why didn't the spring inject the GeneralMail object into my cso object? • Object Oriented Programming in AS3

  I'm building a game in as3 that has balls moving and bouncing off the walls. When the user clicks an explosion appears and any ball that hits that explosion explodes too. Any ball that then hits that explosion explodes and so on. My question is what would be the best class structure for the balls. I have a level system to control levels and such and I've already come up with working ways to code the balls. Here's what I've done. My first attempt was to create a class for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and finally Orb. These all extended each other in the order I just named them. I got it working but having Bounce extend Movement and Explosion extend Bounce, it just doesn't seem very object oriented because what if I wanted to add a box class that didn't move, but did explode? I would need a separate class for that explosion. My second attempt was to create Movement, Bounce and Explosion without extending anything. Instead I passed in a reference to the Orb class to each. Then the class stores that reference and does what it needs to do based on events that are dispatched by the Orb such as update, which was broadcast from Orb every enter frame. This would drive the movement and bounce and also the explosion when the time came. This attempt worked as well but it just doesn't seem right. I've also thought about using Interfaces but because they are more of an outline for classes, I feel like code reuse goes out the window as each class would need its own code for a specific task even if that task is exactly the same. I feel as if I'm searching for some form of multiple inheritance for classes that as3 does not support. Can someone explain to me a better way of doing what I'm attempting to do? Am I being to "Object Oriented" by having classed for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and Orb? Are Interfaces the way to go? Any feedback is appreciated!

• Win32 DLL importing issues (DllMain)

  I have a native DLL that is a plug-in to a different application (one that I have essentially zero control of). Everything works just great until I link with an additional .lib file (links my DLL to another DLL named ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll). This file contains some additional API from the parent application that I would like to utilize. I haven't even written any code to use any of the functions exported but just linking in this new DLL is causing problems. Specifically I get the following error when I attempt to run the program: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000025). Clock on OK to terminate the application. I believe I have read somewhere that this is typically due to a DllMain function returning FALSE. Also, the following message is written to the standard output: ERROR: Memory allocation attempted before component initialization I am almost 100% sure this error message is coming from the application and is not some type of Windows error. Looking into this a little more (aka flailing around and flipping every switch I know of) I linked with /MAP turned on and found this in the resulting .map file: 0001:000af220 ??3@YAXPEAX@Z 00000001800b0220 f ABQSMABasCoreUtils_import:ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll 0001:000af226 ??2@YAPEAX_K@Z 00000001800b0226 f ABQSMABasCoreUtils_import:ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll 0001:000af22c ??_U@YAPEAX_K@Z 00000001800b022c f ABQSMABasCoreUtils_import:ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll 0001:000af232 ??_V@YAXPEAX@Z 00000001800b0232 f ABQSMABasCoreUtils_import:ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll If I undecorate those names using "undname" they give the following (same order): void __cdecl operator delete(void * __ptr64) void * __ptr64 __cdecl operator new(unsigned __int64) void * __ptr64 __cdecl operator new[](unsigned __int64) void __cdecl operator delete[](void * __ptr64) I am not sure I understand how anything from ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll can exist within this .map file or why my DLL is even attempting to load ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll if I don't have any code that references this DLL. Can anyone help me put this information together and find out why this isn't working? For what it's worth I have confirmed via "dumpbin" that the parent application imports the same DLL (ABQSMABasCoreUtils.dll), so it is being loaded no matter what. I have also tried delay loading this DLL in my DLL but that did not change the results.

  Hello, May be i am not able to express my doubt properly in this question but still i will try. Basically i created a simple socket based chat program and everything works fine. But i think i have made many patches in it from the design point of view. I have used ObjectInputStream and ObjectOutputStreams in my program. The question i want to ask is how do i identify the different type of data that i send across the network? say if it is simple String type object i directly add to List<String> chatMessages. Now if want to ban certain users i created an another class :- public class User{ private String name; private String id; //getters and setters } This User class means no importance to me till now but i only created it to properly identify the action. Thus if i receive an instanceOf User i can be sure that some user is to be banned. That way i dont have to hardcode strings. I mean first i thought of sending something like "Banned User :" + userName and then i used to check if string startsWith "Banned User :" then i take some action :p. I've created a User class but it means no importance to me in my program. I want to know whether directly sending strings is good way or create a class for every action that is good. If i am not clear please let me know. If i have hundreds of action do i have to create hundreds of classes so i can check via instanceOf? Say now if i plan to create a BUZZ like facility that is available in yahoo messenger. Should i again create an another class named BUZZ? so it can be identified easily?

  Hello, I would like to ask you about NSURLConnection in objective-c for iPhone. I have one app that needs to connect to one webservice to receive data (about YouTube videos), Then I have all the things that I need to connect (Similar to Hello_Soap sample code in the web). But now, my problem is that I create a class (inherits from NSObject) named Connection and I have implemented the methods: didReceiveResponse, didReceiveData, didFailWithError and connectionDidFinishLoading. I'm trying to do this but I can't for the moment. The thing I would like to do is to be able to call this class "Connection" each time that I want to receive data (after that to be parsed and displayed in UITableViews). Thank you.

• Is it possible to add JPA annotation to superclass instance variables?

  Hi, I am creating entities that are the same for two different tables. In order do table mappings etc. different for the two entities but only have the rest of the code in one place - an abstract superclass. The best thing would be to be able to annotate generic stuff such as column names (since the will be identical) in the super class but that does not work because JPA annotations are not inherited by child classes. Here is an example: public abstract class MyAbstractEntity { @Column(name="PROPERTY") //This will not be inherited and is therefore useless here protected String property; public String getProperty() { return this.property; } //setters, hashCode, equals etc. methods } Which I would like to inherit and only specify the child-specific stuff, like annotations: @Entity @Table(name="MY_ENTITY_TABLE") public class MyEntity extends MyAbstractEntity { //This will not work since this field does not override the super class field, thus the setters and getters break. @Column(name="PROPERTY") protected String property; } Any ideas or will I have to create fields, getters and setters in the child classes? • Predefined column names in SQL Server pivot table

  Hi, the other day I opened a topic here in StackOverflow (stackoverflow.com/questions/4663698/how-can-i-display-a-consolidated-version-of-my-sql-server-table). At that time I needed help on how to show data on a pivot table. From the help I got here in the forum, my research led me to this page about dynamic SQL: www.sommarskog.se/dynamic_sql.html. And then it led me to this awesome SQL script by Itzik Ben-Gan that will create a stored procedure that outputs a pivot table exactly the way I want: sommarskog.se/pivot_sp.sp. Well, almost. I need one change in this stored procedure. Instead of having dynamic column names pulled from the @on_cols variable in the SPROC, I need the output table to hold generic column names in simple ASC order. Could be, for example, col1, col2, col3, col4 ... The dynamic column names are a problem for me. So I need them named by their index in the order they appear. I have tried all sorts of things changing this great SQL script, but it won't work. I did not paste the code from the author because it is too long, but the link above will get us there. • JSF/Seam - call one component method for many radio groups

  I've got the following jsf page: <h:form> <ui:repeat value="#{list.categories}" var="cat"> <h:selectOneRadio id="sel1Rad" value="#{list.choose}" layout="pageDirection"> <f:selectItems value="#{list.names}"/> </h:selectOneRadio> </ui:repeat> <h:commandButton id="submit" action="#{list.submit}" value="Submit"/> </h:form> And a component named list. The variable cat is injected to the component, used by the method list.getNames(). What I am trying to have happen is to have list.choose() be called for each radio group. I'm not sure if this is possible with Seam. Going by the booking example distributed with Seam, there is a distinct separate method for each selectOneRadio or selectOneMenu group. Since I have an unknown number of categories, I can't / don't want to define a method for each possible choice. When I submit the form, all my choices are sent in the POST, I just don't know the correct way to tell Seam how to dispatch them to my component. Any help is appreciated!

  Where I work we do not have any internet connection. We still want to have validation and code completion when editing xml files. I have tried the instructions here http://www.helmers.nu/?p=276 However, I try the instructions, restarts eclipse, do reload dependencies. I still cannot get any code completion nor validation. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have tried both with Eclipse Galileo and Helios.   I'm fairly new to Objective-C and am not sure how to correctly deal with memory management in the following scenario: I have a Core Data Entity with a to-many relationship for the key "children". I guess I'm missing vital parts of memory management knowledge and I will definitely look into it thoroughly.

• General SQL Server query performance

  Hey guys, This might be stupid, but databases are not my thing :) Imagine the following scenario. A user can create a post and other users can reply to his post, thus forming a thread. Everything goes in a single table called Posts. All the posts that form a thread are connected with each other through a generated key called ThreadID. This means that when user #1 creates a new post, a ThreadID is generated, and every reply that follows has a ThreadID pointing to the initial post (created by user #1). What I am trying to do is limit the number of replies to let's say 20 per thread. I'm wondering which of the approaches bellow is faster: 1 I add a new integer column (e.x. Counter) to Posts. After a user replies to the initial post, I update the initial post's Counter field. If it reaches 20 I lock the thread. 2 After a user replies to the initial post, I select all the posts that have the same ThreadID. If this collection has more than 20 items, I lock the thread. For further information: I am using SQL Server database and Linq-to-SQL entity model. I'd be glad if you tell me your opinions on the two approaches or share another, faster approach.   I have inherited some code from a guy whose favorite past time was to shorten every line to its absolute minimum (and sometimes only to make it look cool). His code is hard to understand but I managed to understand (and rewrite) most of it. Or are my assumptions wrong? At least, that's what this code is supposed to do. Select 2 random files and copy them. === NOTES === The OSA Framework is a Framework of our own. They are named after their UNIX counterparts and do some basic testing so that the application does not need to bother with that.

• How to find if a branch is a locally tracked branch or user created local branch?

  I have a remote tracking branch tracked locally in my local repository using 'git branch -b branch-name origin/branch-name'. My remote branch is test2/test2 (origin/branch-name) which is being tracked locally as test2. The origin is also named test2. I haven't checked-out my local tracking branch test2. When i do a 'git pull origin remote-branch:local-tracked-branch' i get this error [test2]$ git pull test2 test2:test2 From /gitvobs/git_bare/test2 ! [rejected] test2 - test2 (non fast forward) Whereas when i checkout my local tracking branch test2 and do pull 'git pull origin local-tracked-branch' i don't get the error and i do a pull using 'git pull test2 test2' From /gitvobs/git_bare/test2 * branch test2 - FETCH_HEAD Auto-merging a.txt Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result. i know that adding a + (git pull test2 +test2:test2) would help but it overwrites local changes. So how do i know which of my local branches are created by me locally using 'git branch new-branch-name' or tracked locally from remote branches using git branch -b branch-name origin/branch-name'?

Some things I'm thinking now are: Can Rails 3 eager load the whole Post tree + associated Slugs in one DB call? Can I do that easily with named scopes or custom SQL? What is best practice in this situation? Not really thinking about memcached in this situation as that can be applied to much more than just this.

  The RFC seems to suggest that the client should permanently cache the response: http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html 10.3.2 301 Moved Permanently The requested resource has been assigned a new permanent URI and any future references to this resource SHOULD use one of the returned URIs. Clients with link editing capabilities ought to automatically re-link references to the Request-URI to one or more of the new references returned by the server, where possible. This response is cacheable unless indicated otherwise. The new permanent URI SHOULD be given by the Location field in the response. Unless the request method was HEAD, the entity of the response SHOULD contain a short hypertext note with a hyperlink to the new URI(s). If the 301 status code is received in response to a request other than GET or HEAD, the user agent MUST NOT automatically redirect the request unless it can be confirmed by the user, since this might change the conditions under which the request was issued. Note: When automatically redirecting a POST request after receiving a 301 status code, some existing HTTP/1.0 user agents will erroneously change it into a GET request. I'm having a hard time finding concrete browser documentation for any major browser that states how they handle these. I've started digging through the source code of firefox, but quickly got lost. Is the following scenario true for which (if any) browsers, and is there definitive documentation for either Firefox or IE that states as much?: First Time Around: 1.1: User enters link to site A, or clicks on a link directed at Site A 1.2: Browser interprets link at Site A, first time, no cache. Sends GET to Site A. 1.2: Site A responds with 301 Redirect to Site B 1.3: Browser sends GET to Site B. Any Subsequent Times Around: 2.2: User clicks on a link directed at Site A 2.2: Browser sees that, due to a past 301 redirect, Site A should now be Site B. 2.3: Without initiating any request whatsoever at Site A, browser initiates GET at Site B.

• PHP: Profiling code and strict environment ~ Improving my coding

  I would like to update my local working environment to be stricter in an effort to improve my code. I know that my code is okay, but as with most things there is always room for improvement. I use XAMPP on my local machine, for simplicities sake Apache Friends XAMPP (Basic Package) version 1.7.2 So I've updated my php.ini : error_reporting to be E_ALL | E_STRICT to help with the code standard. I've also enabled the XDebug extension zend_extension = "C:\xampp\php\ext\php_xdebug.dll" which seems to be working, having tested some broken code and got the nice standard orange error notice. However, having read this question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/133686/what-is-the-best-way-to-profile-php-code and enabled the profiler, I cannot seem to create a cachegrind file. Many of the guides that I've looked at seem to think you need to install XDebug in XAMPP which leads me to think they are out of date, as XDebug is bundled with XAMPP these days. So I would appreciate it if anyone can help point me in the right direction with both configuring XDebug to output grind files, and or just a great set of default settings for the XDebug config in XAMPP. Seems there is very little documentation to go on. If people have tips on integrating these tools with Netbeans, that would be awesomesauce. I'm happy to get suggestions on other things that I can do to help tighten up my php code, both syntactically and performance wise Thanks, and apologies for the rambling question(s)! • Validation control issue

  Hello, I have a multiview that simulates a menu with different kind of options. Each view within the multiview control holds a bunch of controls (listbox, label, etc..) Everything worked just fine, until i wanted to implement Validation control(s). For example when i click on my menu viewA gets displayed with its controls. There i wish to implement a RequiredFieldValidator. But the problem is, if i click on a other menu option (which is in fact a other view in my multiview) then it gives the error message 'Please enter a message" which is the errorMessage of the first RequiredFieldValidator of the first menu option (first view). All my controls are named with a unique name, so there is no mixup amongst the ControlToValidate="" Offcourse this is not suitable, cause those menu choices are indepentant. And its not the intention i have to fill in everything, cause its a menu afterall, and not a form where i have to enter everything at once. How can i have a RequiredFieldValidator on my views that do not take each other in account? I forgot to mention that I am coding this "blindly" - I have a compiler to help me, but no environment set up to test this.   I am making a software as a service using Spring 3.0 (Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Roo, Hibernate) I have to come up with a flexible access control list mechanism.I have three different kinds of users System (who can do any thing to the system, includes admin and internal daemons) Operations (who can add and delete users, organizations, and do maintenance work on behalf of users and organizations) End Users (they belong to one or more organization, for each organization, the user can have one or more roles, like being organization admin, or organization read-only member) (role like orgadmin can also add users for that organization) Now my question is, how should i model the entity of User? If I just take the End User, it can belong to one or more organizations, so each user can contain a set of references to its organizations. But how do we model the users role for each organization, So for example User UX belongs to organizations og1, og2 and og3, and for og1 he is both orgadmin, and org-read-only-user, where as for og2 he is only orgadmin and for og3 he is only org-read-only-user I have the possibility of making each user belong to one organization alone, but that's making the system bounded and I don't like that idea (although i would still satisfy the requirement) If you have a better extensible ACL architecture, please suggest it. Since its a software as a service, one would expect that alot of different organizations would be part if the same system. I had one concern that it is not a good idea to keep og1 and og2 data on the same DB (if og1 decides to spawn a 100 reports on the system, og2 should not suffer) But that is some thing advanced for now and is not directly related to ACL but to the physical distribution of data and setup of services based on those ACLs This is a community Wiki question, please correct any thing which you wish to do so.
