  • How to set up the CNAME in DNS zone record to work with Unbounce

    I'm trying to run split testing on some landing pages I "designed" with Unbounce, but it requires that I set the CNAME record for my domain/sub-domain and I'm having trouble figuring out what is the right way to do it. My host is arvixe (www.arvixe.com) and their customer support has failed to help me for the past 5 days (I spoke to them multiple times). I followed the directions for setting the CNAME record and I was able to set the CNAME record, but I'm consistently unable to verify that the CNAME record is set up correctly. I followed the instructions on Unbounce to verify the CNAME record for my sub-domain (beta.devboost.com) and here are the results: No records found reverse lookup smtp diag port scan blacklist Reported by ns1.SNARE.arvixe.com on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 5:49:57 PM (GMT-6) Here is my DNS zone record from the control panel of my host (last record, CNAME unbouncepages.com): Is there something wrong with my DNS Zone Record?     How to connect to a computer that is in Sleep mode over the internet? I am using LogMeIn to connect to another computer offsite. I just installed Windows 7 RC on that system and found that the Sleep mode actually works. Currently LogMeIn does not connect when the system is in Sleep mode or Hibernate mode (that is what their error message displays when you try). Is there a way to get LogMeIn to connect to a system in Sleep mode? Is there other software that gives simliar LogMeIn functionallity (like RDP, etc.) that could be used on Windows 7 instead. I just use LMI for connecting and nothing else (no printing or file transfers). A Non-expensive options (such as free) would be better. I have seen web sites mentioning "Wake on LAN". Does anyone have some good links on how to set this up to be accessed over the internet?   • Is it a good idea to run Redmine using Webrick through Nginx?

    The task here is to get Redmine setup for a small (<20) team. There may be a few users who would access the setup as business clients. I am familiar with setting up PHP for Apache, and recently, Nginx. I am not familiar with Ruby, Ruby-On-Rails, etc. I prefer to use the OS's (Ubuntu Linux LTS) package manager to install the different components as it takes care of dependencies and updates. I have setup Nginx with PHP-FPM successfully and am struggling with Redmine. As suggested here, I got Redmine running on port 3000. # /etc/init/redmine.conf # Redmine description "Redmine" start on runlevel [2345] stop on runlevel [!2345] expect daemon exec ruby /usr/share/redmine/script/server webrick -e production -b 0.0.0.0 -d And using the Nginx config on this page, I used Nginx to proxy requests to Webrick. server { listen 80; server_name myredmine.example.com; location / { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:3000; } } This works well locally. I wanted some opinions before trying this out on the live box (a 256 MB VPS). Further, should I use something like monit to monitor webrick for failure?

  • Apache directory authorization bug (clicking cancel gives acces to partial content)

    I got a minor problem (as the site is not high priority) but still a very interesting one. I have an apache root domain wherein other sites live "/var/www/" And I have foo.example.com forwarding to "/var/www/foo-example" (wordpress site) The problem here is that when you go to foo.example.com you are prompted to enter credentials. If you hit cancel it gives you the access denied page. But when you go to the servers' direct IP (this gives you the default index page) and hit cancel when prompted for credentials it just keeps giving you the login screen, and after pressing cancel a few times more it gives (a perhaps cached) bare html part of the page. How do I prevent this from happening? Perhaps this is a bug... Even if I would block access to the root directory when going to the ip/foo-example it would still do this. And I want to keep all the directories within the www directory or at least all in the same.   • Mapped network drive connection timeout

    I have server "Alpha" and server "Beta". Server Beta has a shared folder, that is mapped on server Alpha as "X:" On server Alpha there is a .vbs script that runs and take some files on local drive and copy them on X: drive. My issue is if no user log on server Alpha for a long time, it seems like the tcp connection underneath the mapped drive has a timeout, and the vbs script fails on the copy of file. As soon I log with remote desktop on Alpha server, the .vbs is successfull on the copy of the files. I have made many tests, using file logs to check what was happening and I found no way to refresh the connection and let the .vbs be able to copy files unattended.. I have always to log with remote desktop on Alpha server to refresh the connection and let the .vbs copy the files without issues. What can I do to avoid to log every time? The .vbs script runs 3 times a day and is very annoying. I do not have control over server Beta so I cannot change anything there, and I am very limited on changes I can do on server Alpha ( I cannot change registry and that sort of things)

    I have 3 versions of Visual Studio installed, and 3 projects that require a specific version. VSLauncher USED to look at the SLN or VCPROJ file and open the correct version of Visual Studio. Now it only starts the most recent version, regardless of the project. Note that this has nothing to do with the commonly reported problem with beta versions of VS. none of the SLNs have ever been touched by a beta VS.

    I've been trying to debug some super slow performance in running my cucumber features. I've run various calls through ruby-prof and think I see the bottlenecks (not too familiar with using ruby-prof) but do not know the cause or more important the solution.
