• Deriving streambuf or basic_ostringstream?

  Hi, I want to derive a stringstream so that I can use the operator<< to construct a message which will then be thrown. The API would look like: error("some text") << " more text " << 42 << std::endl; This should do a throw "some text more text 42" So what I did is make an errorbuf (inheriting from streambuf) which overloads the 'overflow' method and then create an ostream(&errorbuf). I wonder if I shouldn't instead inherit from basic_ostringstream or something...

• How to draw Wingdings 2 characters outside of the 0..255 range in .NET?

  The standard windows Charmap utility shows quite a few characters in the "Wingdings 2" font whose character codes are greater than 255 - for example, 0xE4E shows a hand. However, if I try to draw these characters as follows: g.DrawString(new string((char) 0xE4E, 1), new Font("Wingdings 2", 20), brush, x, y); then all I get is a standard "box" replacement character. This is weird, because the above code works for Wingdings 2 symbols between 0x21 and 0xFF, and also works for ALL symbols in, say, Arial Unicode MS. How can I draw those characters from this particular font? Is there a separate API? (Win7; .NET 3.5 SP1) P.S. Here's the weird Character Map font with the duplicated character ranges:

• IE won't start session from an iframe?..

  The task was to bypass login form on remote server with a session_id acquired through a call to server's web API. So that user wouldn't have to login twice. Since there's no way to set cookies for different domain. What we came up to was - put a little file on remote server, to which we pass encrypted session_id from hidden iframe and which is supposed to start a proper session for a remote app, which is then loaded in another iframe. This approach works fine in FF/Chrome, but not IE... However if I copy url to self-made remote authorization script from iframe's src attribute to to IE's address bar and load it from there, session get's created as expected. But for some reason it just doesn't want to do the same from an iframe. Does anyone have any clue, why this is happening?

  Hello. I have a javascript widget witch provides standard extension points. One of them is the beforecreate function. It should return false to prevent an item from being created. I've added an AJAX call into this function using jQuery: beforecreate: function(node,targetNode,type,to) { jQuery.get('http://example.com/catalog/create/' + targetNode.id + '?name=' + encode(to.inp[0].value), function(result) { if(result.isOk == false) alert(result.message); }); } But I want to prevent my widget from creating the item, so I should return false in the mother-function, not in the callback.   Dear Programmers, When my Application face a long-time process, i.e fetch a query (SELECT a, b, c FROM d) This query needs 10 seconds to be completed in the MSSQL Management Studio, but when the ASP.NET application try to fetch it, it refuse to return any response to any other requests made on that Server. I am hosting my Application on VPS Server with good specifications, and I am giving this example the (SELECT a, b, c FROM d) just to tell you the issue, it can be any process, maybe processing a movie, or even fetching some data through external API that is experiencing some slow-down,or whatever. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

This app features a way to connect your webcam or dv cam that is connected on the internet, you could set up the ip address and enter the data on the app and it will connect to your online camera. the thing is that they have the video stream and it looks like they embedded the video in a uiview or webview at the bottom they have buttons to choose from all the cameras you have set up. so this is different from other video streaming apps because it does not play the video from the full screen mode (MPMediaPlayer API) would there be any tutorials about this or somehow take reverse engineer this?

• How to include NetBeans Platform Source code into module dependencies

  I am debugging a NetBeans Platform application. I have downloaded the NetBeans Platform source code .zip file. I would really really like to attach the source code to the debugger so that I can seamlessly jump to internal NB source code. Normally I would edit the Library configuration to tell NB where to find the source code, and it would just work. However this is not possible for NetBeans Modules; when I look at the Utilities API module dependency it does not look like a normal NB library and there is nowhere to add in the source code. I suspect that if I were to rebuild my project using Maven this would work automatically. But thats a terrible reason to switch to maven. How can I get the NB Platform Source code included into my Module Dependencies ?

• .NET Excel Interop - Why aren't my Footers displaying in my printed output file?

  I'm working with C# and Office 2007's Excel Interop API. I'm opening an Excel file, applying some formatting and then sending it to the printer. I've got a problem, though. The Footer text doesn't appear to be printing. If I check the PageSetup.RightFooter property, I can see the expected Page Number in the Footer. That Page Number doesn't appear anywhere on the printed output sheet. When I print using Excel, though, they appear. Does anyone know why my Footer text is not appearing? Here's my code.   I am running a JSP/Servlet Web application and out of nowhere we experienced some random problems that don't make any sense. I checked the catalina.out file to check the log files, and I noticed it contained some of the following messages SEVERE: Error starting static Resources java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid or unreadable WAR file : error in opening zip file INFO: validateJarFile(/home/weremo/appservers/ apache-tomcat-6.0.26/webapps /WMA/WEB-INF/lib/ servlet-api.jar) - jar not loaded. See Servlet Spec 2.3, section 9.7.2. Offending class: javax/servlet/Servlet.class I am aware of what this message means, but am in the dark as to what could have caused it, or what effects it could have on the application.

  Hi all I'm using the navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function) api in firefox 3.6. When i try to call this method repeatedly I see that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I figured that the problem is because of its asynchronous callback nature. I can see that the callback function is being called at some point but my outer function is already exiting so i cannot catch the values of the position coordinates. I'm pretty new to javascript so i'm assuming other javascript coders might have already figured out how to deal with it. Please help. Thanks

• Tools and ways to generate HTML help for built-in help system (QtHelp)?

  Hello, I'm in the progress of implementing a built-in help system based on QtHelp into my application. Since QtHelp is based on Qt's help collection files, I need to produce a set of HTML pages. Since I won't be writing the documentation alone (a few of my colleagues will write, too), I am looking for the best way to produce these files. We are internally using a Wiki, and I know that the documentation should be written in some kind of markup language instead of giving all authors a WYSIWYG HTML editor. So my question is, are there tools out there which help with the process of generating documentation that can be exported as a set of HTML files, and possibly, as PDFs, too?. Thanks in advance! Update: I'm already using Doxygen for C++ documentation generation. But I'm not exactly looking for an API-Documentation generator, but something like LaTeX, which allows you to format the documentation contents like a markup document (much like a Wiki).

I've looked at the core Trigger module, but don't see anything suitable there. I've looked at the hook_user_presave and hook_user_insert API docs, but don't see a way there to cancel an ongoing user registration.   I am trying to use the new LiveConnect features introduced in Java 6 Update 10. Code looks like this (copied from the applet tutorial): Class<?> c = Class.forName("com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM"); Method m = c.getMethod("getDocument", java.applet.Applet.class); Document document = (Document) m.invoke(null, this); But all I am getting is a ClassNotFoundException for the entry-point class. This on the Mac, 10.6, with both Firefox and Safari. Java Plug-in 1.6.0_22 Using JRE version 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM Is this not implemented on the Mac? Or do I need to configure something? All I need to do is get and set the value of form elements on the page, so I would be fine with an older (pre-6u10) API if that works better.

• Double Negation in C++ code.

  I just came onto a project with a pretty huge code base. I'm mostly dealing with C++ and a lot of the code they write uses double negation for their boolean logic. if (!!variable && (!!api.lookup("some-string"))) { do_some_stuff(); } I know these guys are intelligent programmers, it's obvious they aren't doing this by accident. I'm no seasoned C++ expert, my only guess at why they are doing this is that they want to make absolutely positive that the value being evaluated is the actual boolean representation. So they negate it, then negate that again to get it back to its actual boolean value. Is this a correct? or am I missing something else? Thanks, Brian Gianforcaro

• Prevent Django from redirecting to add trailing slash

  UPDATED: Sorry, it looks like it's Apache that's rewriting it for some reason, not Django. I'll investigate further and post my findings. I need to add a /xmlrpc.php to my Byteflow installation to handle an application that is written for PHP blog engines and uses this hardcoded path. For some reason Byteflow appends a slash to this URL using a 301 Moved Permanently redirect, which breaks the application. It does not do so for the /robots.txt that is configured in a similar way. Relevant lines from the project urls.py: url(r'^xmlrpc.php$', 'django_xmlrpc.views.xmlrpc_handler'), url(r'^robots.txt$', include('robots.urls')), I read that the behavior was changed in the Django codebase in commit 6852 (in 2007) to prevent redirects being done for urls that have been explicitly configured not to contain any trailing slashes. I'm using Django 1.1. I assume that once I have fixed this problem, I should be able to use this application with Byteflow, because the application uses the MetaWeblog XML-RPC API. Any clue?

  The Windows _setmbcp function allows any valid code page... (except UTF-7 and UTF-8, which are not supported) OK, not supporting UTF-7 makes sense: Characters have non-unique representations and that introduces complexity and security risks. But why not UTF-8? As I understand it, the "ANSI" versions of the Windows API functions convert their arguments to UTF-16, call the equivalent "W" function, and convert any strings in the output to "ANSI". This is what I've been doing manually. So why can't Windows do it for me?

  I have an old customer list of 4,000 businesses. I want to determine if the phone numbers associated with each listing are still working (and therefore the business is probably still open). I can put each number in whitepages.com and check them one by one... but want to automate the results. I have looked at their API and can't digest it. I can form the correct query URL, but trying things like cURL -O doesn't work. I have access to Mac tools, Unix tools, and could try various javascript stuff if anyone could point me in the right direction... would even pay. Help? Thx

  Hi, I have been looking into HTML5 and CSS3 and have been liking it quite a lot. Got around the modernizr API, but am stuck at one point, and that leads to further confusions: How will I write a code that caters to the situation of non-compatibility between browsers ? This leads to the following confusions: if I write the doctype as <!DOCTYPE HTML> and my page is accessed in IE6, then ho IE6 will handle the page? If I try to include <video> tag and the page is again accessed by IE6/IE7IE8 (which don't support this tag), Then how am I supposed to be rolling back to flash for them? • Obtain stored procedure metadata for a procedure within an Oracle package using ADO.NET

  Hi, I am trying to obtain the stored procedure metadata (procedure name,parameter types,parameter names etc) for a procedure declared within an Oracle package, using the standard ADO.NET API - DbConnection.GetSchema call. I am using the ODP driver. I see that the Package is listed in the 'Packages' and 'PackageBodies' metadata collections. The procedure parameter appears in the 'Arguments' and 'ProcedureParameters' collections. I do not see a way to get to the procedure information via the package metadata. Even if the procedure does not have any parameters there is a row in the 'ProcedureParameters' collection for this procedure. My question: To obtain the procedure metadata do I have to query the 'ProcedureParameters' collection and search for an entry with the required package name? I can then construct the procedure metadata based on the parameter information. Is there a shorter or quicker way to obtain the same information?
