• Java: How do you access a sub-object of an object with no "getXXX" method to that sub-object

  I'll explain with pictures from Eclipse Debugger I have an Class called "FieldContext", (I can't edit it, it's compiled in the Java OVal API) Within "FieldContext" on the eclipse variable tab are "CompileTimeType" and "field" Q1 Is there a legend for the icons in the variables tab? like what the red box with the "F" means + yellow diamond boxes? Now I want to access the fields inside the "field" object (RedBox) .. preferably "name" But the "FieldContext" does not have a "getField()" method, yet it has a "getCompileTimeType()" method. Q2 So is there anyway to get that field object being a "SerializableField" Class from the "FieldContext"? If eclipse debugger can see/get/edit them then I hope I can do the same in Java.

• HSM - cryptoki - opening sessions overhead

  I am having a query regarding sessions with HSM. I am aware that there is an overhead if you initialise and finalise the cryptoki api for every file you want to encrypt/decrypt. My queries are, Is there an overhead in opening and closing individual sessions for every file, you want to encrypt/decrypt.(C_Initialize/C_Finalize) How many maximum number of sessions can i have for a HSM simultaneously, with out affecting the performance? Is opening and closing the session for processing individual files the best approach or opening a session and processing multiple files and then closing the session the best approach? Thanks

• receive emails in a .NET service (C#)

  Hi, this is my first posting on stackoverflow, so don't flame me too much ;) I'm building a service that's monitoring devices and should be able to receive emails from users, parse them and take action accordingly. It should also be able to send emails about the status of the devices, etc. I'll be using Windows.Live email, and as I said, a .NET service that should be able to send/recieve emails. I am wondering what kind of system would I need to cater for receiving the emails, as I already know how to send them via the System.net.Mail API. Thanks. • ASP.NET cached aspx page & IIS logs

  Hi guys, Is there any way to find out if ASP.Net runtime has served a cached copy of ASPX page or actually went through the page life cycle? Here is my problem: I'm seeing many entries in my IIS log files that were served successfully (200 OK). I've a corresponding logging code (Log4Net API) in the Session_Start and Application_BeginRequest() events that is logging every request to my DB with more details. I'm not seeing any corresponding entries in my SQL DB for some cases that should have been created by Log4Net code. Are there any logs available to find out if a cached copy was served by .NET worker process? Moreover, if my logging code would throw an exception, won't that show up as 500 in IIS logs? The code is on Windows 2008 Server, IIS 7.

• How can I get read-ahead bytes?

  Operating systems read from disk more than what a program actually requests, because a program is likely to need nearby information in the future. In my application, when I fetch an item from disk, I would like to show an interval of information around the element. There's a trade off between how much information I request and show, and speed. However, since the OS already reads more than what I requested, accessing these bytes already in memory is free. What API can I use to find out what's in the OS caches? Alternatively, I could use memory mapped files. In that case, the problem reduces to finding out whether a page is swapped to disk or not. Can this be done in any common OS?

The Wikipedia Article implies either C, QBasic or Pascal, but: * C was invented to write UNIX, so I don't believe it was used to write MSDOS * Pascal seems popular to teach programming, but not really popular to write Operating systems in * QBasic didn't seem to be very popular for Operating Systems at the time MSDOS was developed (or was *BASIC ever very popular to write Operating Systems in it?) Except these three languages there is also Assembly, but I assume that Microsoft already switched from Assembly to a "higher" level language? Since C was originally invented for UNIX, I still wouldn't think Microsoft is using C... although the Microsoft API is written in C (I find this kind-of oxymoronic, actually). Can anyone enlighten me on this topic?

• google maps everytime fails to place some markers on the map

  hello! im trying to place like 130/140 markers on a custom google map. i inject the map with jquery and gmaps (http://gmap.nurtext.de/) everytime, at random (not related to specific markers) a lots of markers are not shown. firebug report this error: a is null and this error comes from this file: http://maps.gstatic.com/intl/it_ALL/mapfiles/285c/maps2.api/main.js if i refresh the page...some other markers are "hidden" and other ones are shown. anyone had this problem/can help me or suggest another safe way to show all markers? thanks a lot! • Should I use Drupal or Kohana-type framework for a web "application"

  The debate is that I need a PHP Framework/Drupal with the flexibility to add custom features to a potentially large application (web and with an api). However, with a framework, like Kohana, I see myself tackling and re-inventing the wheel with the simple stuff like account management and cms stuff. Account management and quick data collection, like fast form creation, are tedious in Kohana but appear incredible simple in Drupal. On the other hand, based on my limited Drupal experience, I doubt building rapid custom "features" and allowing users to create "groups" and to manage their own roles within those groups is something Drupal can easily accomplish. To simplify, is Drupal capable of true Web Applications; where the application is a service and provides custom results to each user? Can it provide a dashboard-like interface for users to change their settings or preferences? Can it aggregate data from particular users to provide better results/info to others? If so, please point me to some knowledge :-)

  Hi all, I am working on a Moodle project and I have downloaded and installed the latest build(1.9) on my system. I'm using this framework for the very first time so presently trying to get familiar with the environment and the documentation. My need is to embed an iCal kinda calendar on Moodle's front page using the PHP iCalendar API. I downloaded the latest version of PHP iCalendar but kinda needed some help figuring things out further. I am trying to build a plug-in sorta thing which allows you to put a custom-built calendar (in place of the regular Moodle calendar) on your Moodle site. • Can you figure out the password hashing scheme?

  I have two passwords and two resulting hashes. I can't figure out how the hash is derived from the password. I don't know if salting is used. I don't know if the password is hashed as a integer value or as a string (possibly Unicode). Password: 6770 Hash: c12114b91a3841c143bbeb121693e80b Password: 9591 Hash: 25238d578b6a61c2c54bfe55742984c1 The hash length seems to suggest MD5. Anybody has any ideas what I could try? Note: This is not for hacking purposes. I'm trying to access a service through an API instead of it's desktop client, and I can't figure out how to compute the password hash. Currently instead of using my real password I'm sending directly the hash.

• Opting out of `dragenter` and `dragover` events (html5)

  I have a collection of draggable "content" elements, and a root-level "feedback" UI element which is displayed above them to provide feedback during drag and drop. The problem is, during the drag operation, hovering over the "feedback" element causes the dragenter and dragover events to be fired on that element, rather than the underlying content element. It effectively "blocks" the dragenter event from firing on the correct element. Is there a way for an element to cancel, or "opt out" of a dragenter/dragover event? • Importing Sqlite data into Google App Engine

  I have a relatively extensive sqlite database that I'd like to import into my Google App Engine python app. I've created my models using the appengine API which are close, but not quite identical to the existing schema. I've written an import script to load the data from sqlite and create/save new appengine objects, but the appengine environment blocks me from accessing the sqlite library. This script is only to be run on my local app engine instance, and from there I hope to push the data to google. Am I approaching this problem the wrong way, or is there a way to import the sqlite library while running in the local instance's environment?

• Connection to DB2 in Python

  Hi, I'm trying to create a database connection in a python script to my DB2 database. When the connection is done I've to run some different SQL statements. I googled the problem and has read the ibm_db API (http://code.google.com/p/ibm-db/wiki/APIs) but just can't seem to get it right. I really tried everything (or, not everything but pretty damn close) and I can't get it to work. I just need to make a automatic test python script that can test different queries with different indexes and so on and for that I need to create and remove indexes a long the way.   Hi! I've started to develop in Android 2 weeks ago and until now, I like it! Currently I am working on a project where I have to display an individual map (not a google maps view, I'd like to display the map of a building's interior) with which the user can interact(mark positions, etc.). Is there a framework or an existing app that I could use? Of course I searched the internet but could not find anything. Perhaps it is in some way possible to use the google maps API? • List of private iPhone APIs?

  . . Hi there, everybody. . . I need to do an app to be distributed ad hoc (it doesn't need to go to the store) but I need to get the information about the "data usage" (gprs/3g traffic). It is available on the system, but there is no official API call to get that info. One app made it through Apple testing (it's called "Download Meter"), though, and I emailed the guys to see if they would share the call, but they were not in that mood. . . Is there any list of private APIs or anything like that? Does anyone have any ideas of how could I get that info? Again: the app doesn't need to go to the store, but I need to install it on stock iPhone (ad hoc will do). . Thanks.

  Hi Guys, I need to build a scalable single sign-on mechanism for multiple sites. Scenario: Central web application to register/manage account (Server in Europe) Several web applications that need to authenticate against my user database (Servers in US/Europe/Pacific region) I am using MySQL as database backend. The options I came up with are either replicating the user database across all servers (data security?) or allowing the servers to directly connect to my MySQL instance by explicitly allowing connections from their IPs in my.cnf (high load? single point of failure?). What would be the best way to provide a scalable and low-latency single sign-on for all web applications? In terms of data security would it be a good idea to replicate the user database across all web applications? Note: All web applications provide an API which users can use to embed widgets into their own websites. These widgets work through a token auth mechanism which will again need to authenticate against my user database.

Matrix methods (e.g., inversion). Spline approximations. Probability distributions and statistical methods. In this case, "best" is defined as a package with a mature and usable API, solid performance and numerical accuracy. Edit: derick van brought up a good point in that cost is a factor. I am heavily biased in favor of free packages but others may have a different emphasis.

In our environment we use windows, c#, msbuild, cruisecontrol.net and subversion. We are currently using DocToHelp to create our help file, which is based on an msword document. I'm looking for some guidance on how to manage the end user documentation. What documentation tools should I use? Should any of the documentation tools be part of the build script? Should the output files from the documentation tool be stored in subversion? What type of help files would be best to use?

• GAE Having Tasks generate pages for user

  I have a web app that I would like to have the following functionality: user gives a url webapp gets json data from that url and others from same website (this can take anywhere from 1-10 seconds) webapp uses data to generate page for user With this approach, I believe that if the server is in the process of getting the data for one user, then the other user won't be able to load the page (server busy). I would like to avoid this if possible. It seems like the Google Tasks API would be useful for this, but I don't see how I can run the task, and then use the output of the task to generate the page (how would the main app know when the task was finished?) • Eclipse Class File Metadata

  In Visual Studio, I can obtain a succinct list of public methods/members exposed in a class for which I do not have the source (i.e. bundled inside a DLL) by pressing F12 (GoToDefinition). Similarly, I am learning the Android API - in Eclipse. Jumping to an Android framework method definition produces decompilation output which is not intuitive to read, and is very verbose. To mimic results like Visual Studio, I am considering several options: How can I format the decompilation output to be 'cleaner' - I have looked through Eclipse's preferences menus and have not found a way to do this. How do I 'add corresponding source files' once Google provides it, so that jumping to definition yields the actual definition? Is there a plugin that does this already? I looked into Jadclipse, but that project has not been updated in several years, and is still a decompiler. Thank you in advance.

• Best language to use when exporting an excel file

  I want to write a macro program that takes in data from a text file and then arranges it in a specific manner in an excel file. I don't know which language has the best features for dealing with Excel. I prefer java, and I see someone made an api called JExcelApi, but I'm not sure about it's capabilities. I would like to be able to generate a graph automatically in excel based on the data in a certain column. Is this possible in any language? I would guess that Microsoft's VB or C# would have an advanced feature such as this, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

• How to get parent node in Stanford's JavaNLP?

  Hello. Suppose I have such chunk of a sentence: (NP (NP (DT A) (JJ single) (NN page)) (PP (IN in) (NP (DT a) (NN wiki) (NN website)))) At a certain moment of time I have a reference to (JJ single) and I want to get the NP node binding A single page. If I get it right, that NP is the parent of the node, A and page are its siblings and it has no children (?). When I try to use the .parent() method of a tree, I always get null. The API says that's because the implementation doesn't know how to determine the parent node. Another method of interest is .ancestor(int height, Tree root), but I don't know how to get the root of the node. In both cases, since the parser knows how to indent and group trees, it must know the "parent" tree, right? How can I get it? Thanks
