• Still no wireless after b43 with Dell Inspiron 1525 (Ubuntu 12.04)

  So I followed the instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1974006 about how to solve this issue. It worked for a bit and then stopped. After doing a modprobe I could at least see my network and click on it but it would not connect (I can always see it if I look under the listed wireless networks under VPN Connections, however). I'm thinking, from what I read at least, the issue might be that my wireless switch was on during those first steps. Do I now have to undo the b43 install and do it again? Or is there something else I could try? I just made the switch to Linux yesterday, so I am hesitant at this point to mess with anything on my own. I should note now that it was installed by someone who knows what they are doing, so we are all good on that front.

• Easiest Way to Get Started With 3D?

  I'm looking at getting into 3D game development and am wondering what would be the best, quickest engine to get started with. I need to be able to develop on a Macintosh with it. I know Java, and PHP mainly but have worked in many others. At this point, I feel I can adapt to most languages quite easy. So the programming language doesn't really matter to me. I've sorta kinda tried unity in the past and wasn't all too fond of it, so it's kind of a "I can't find anything better" resort. I'm hoping with how open I am I will find something I like more.   Jersey 2.0 milestone 2 is now available. It builds upon the first milestone and adds several new features such as server-side asynchronous processing, server-side content negotiation, improved JAX-RS parameter injection, and several others. The REST endpoints can be published on Java SE HTTP Server, Grizzly 2 HTTP container, and some basic Servlet-based deployments. It also provides HTTPURLConnection-based client API implementation. Read about these and more about what's new in Marek's detailed post. Of course this is also the future reference implementation for JAX-RS 2.0. Feel like trying it out? • cant boot ubuntu after install (first time)

  Trying to install ubuntu for the first time. I use an usb stick. At partition I use one of the hdd's I have and create a partition of 50gb for ubuntu @ /dev/sda and the partitions name is dev/sda1 with type ext4. All is well and the installation is completed without any errors and I get a dialogue asking me to restart but ubuntu does not boot. I only have one device as boot in my bios and I think its the devide with ubuntu on it since I've not partitioned the other discs. When I create the partition I yse primary type and localtion for the new partition is att the beginning of the space. And I use Ext4 file system. Mount point is / What am I doing wrong?

• Game Development Resources? [closed]

  I want to make an iPhone game and I was wondering if somebody could point me to some resources. Before you rage and close this, I am not looking for just a tutorial on programming, I could just google that. I need to find a tutorial on how to actually make a game, as in how to organize your code, what type of methods to run in separate threads, how to manage these threads in a game, etc. I already know everything I need; I can write a physics engine from scratch, I can write a 3D graphics pipeline from scratch, and so on. What I cannot figure out is how to combine all of this knowledge into correctly and efficiently making a game. Obviously for this one would probably go to college, but seeing as I am still in high school, that is not an option. If anyone would know some tutorials or resources, any pointers would be appreciated.

  I'm running on a clean install of 10.10 Server edition and have alsa-base, alsa-tools, alsa-utils, alsaplayer, and alsa-firmware-loader installed. At one point I installed pulseaudio, but I have since removed it. • How do you deal with transitions in animating walking?

  I'm pretty new to this whole animating models thing. Just learning the ropes. I got a nice walking animation going, which I can loop while a character is walking, but what about when they stop walking? I mean, they could be at any point in the animation at the time the player stops walking. How do I get them to smoothly return to a standing still position without having them snap into that position? The same goes for starting walking from a standing still position. Do you need a separate animation? How is this dealt with?

• 12.10 will not shut down

  I recently installed 12.04 on an hp spectre xt ultrabook. I installed 12.04 from a USB. When the install was complete, and the computer restarted, I got a blank screen. After some searching, I found that I had to choose "acpi=off" during the installation, which now shows up in the grub screen. Once I was on 12.04, I upgraded to 12.10. The issue now is that when I hit shutdown, the computer hangs on a purple shutdown screen. Usually, at this point, I press the power button on the machine to completely power off the machine. I am new to ubuntu, and would appreciate the help. Thanks.

• Massive vehicular network simulator

  I am interested in making a vehicular network simulator (vehicular network as in vehicles can be equipped with radios and when they come in range they can talk with each other). I want to be able to scale to 1000s of nodes if not more. I am quite frankly torn on how to do, or even which language to use or whether I should instead be using some other piece of software/code. I know that this should depend on a lot of design decisions that I may have, but it would be great if somebody can point me towards the right direction. I was planning to use a multi-threaded architecture, but not sure whether it will add to the complication or make it easier. Also if I go for a multi-threaded architecutre, do you think that 'Go' language will be a good choice?

  Hi, an upstart question (I think I have read all relevant man pages but could not find the answer there): What is the sense of using a "stop on ..." stanza in the definition of a job which is a task? The manuals tell us that such a job, after being started, just waits until its script (or exec stanza) is executed completely, and then stops automatically. Given that, what is the point in using "stop on ..." stanzas in such job definitions? • Generic Content Player?

  The general idea on the web appears to be that video/audio are to be separated with plain text. By separated, I mean you have a place that plays video/audio and a place that you read text. This is because it is widely understood that they are vastly different. However, audio and video are just another way of communication, just like text. So why do we separate the two even if they are nearly the same thing? Correct me if I'm wrong but, most tutorials are either plain text how-to's (wiki-style) or visual/auditory instructional videos (YouTube). Why aren't the two combined? Or, if it's already been done can someone reply with the link? This might be bordering off-topic and if it is off-topic then please point me to the right place so it won't be. This might also appear to be an obvious question, however I'm not sure if this subject has really been deeply thought-out by more than a few individuals.

• Different set of workspaces for each monitor? Ubuntu 13.04 with Unity

  currently for my new setup, I have a 3 monitor setup. With an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 770(if this matters for this). What I'm wanting to do, is to create a separate set of workspaces for each monitor. For instance: Monitor 1 has a set of 4 workspaces, that are specific to monitor 1, and change independently of the other monitors. Then the other 2 monitors also have their own set of 4 workspaces. So in total I would have 12 workspaces, but each monitor would have it's own set of 4 that work independently from the others. I've read things about Xmonad and Xinerama, but I'm not really sure where to go from here. I haven't ventured to far into different window managers and everything. I'm sure there's not a tool that does this, but if someone could point me in the right direction(I've been using Ubuntu for about 4 years so I can figure some things out on my own too).
