  • Set Facebook status using iphone app

    I have just started with the new graph api for facebook. I have gotten a few items to work like logging in and getting the user name and displaying this to the screen. I am having trouble figuring out how to set my status with the graph api... I have tried a couple things but I always receive and error response back. Any ideas?   • Does Google crawl AJAX content?

    On the home page of my site I use JQuery's ajax function to pull down a list of recent activity of users. The recent activity is displayed on the page, and each line of the recent activity includes a link to the user profile of the user who did the activity. Will Google actually make the ajax call to pull down this info and use it in calculating page relevancy / link juice flow? I'm hoping that it does not because the user profile pages are not very Google index worthy, and I don't want all those links to the User profile pages diluting my home page's link juice flow away from other more important links.

  • HTML-like GUI Framework in Java

    I was recently brought onto a project where we are developing a lot GUI elements for BlackBerry devices. The standard RIM APIs are pretty basic, almost never do what is required and are difficult or impossible to extend, so we end up re-implementing chunks of it. Currently the code we have isn't super organized and factored so there are lots of little tricks that get implemented over and over again. I had a thought about how to aid development efforts on this platform and wanted to see if the community could tell me if I'm still sane or if I've gone totally nuts. By far, the biggest organizational problem I've run into is making sure that each screen is laid out properly with proper padding and such. The current approach is to manually keep track of padding like so: protected void sublayout(int width, int height) { final int padding = 5; int y = padding; int x = padding; layoutChild(_someChild, width - padding * 2, height / 3 - padding * 2); setPositionChild(_someChild, x, y); y += _someChild.getHeight() + padding; // Calculate where to start drawing next. /* ... snipped ... */ } As you can see, positioning elements on a screen is a nightmare due to the tedium. I have investigated other GUI frameworks but, for a variety of reasons, it is difficult to find one that suites our purposes. One potential solution that came to me is to create a GUI framework who's API resembles HTML/CSS. This would allow for things like padding, margins, borders and colours to be handled through a sort of CSS API while the content would be organized using the HTML part of the API. It might look something like this: public class OptionsScreen extends Document { public OptionsScreen() { // You would set the style (like CSS style) through the constructor.   • Randomly Losing Session Variables Only In Google Chrome & URL Rewriting

    Using Google Chrome, I'm seemingly losing/corrupting session data when navigating between pages (PHP 5.0.4, Apache 2.0.54). The website works perfectly fine in IE7/8, Firefox, Safari & Opera. The issue is only with Google Chrome. I narrowed down the problem. I'm using search friendly URL's, and hiding my front controller (index.php) via a .htaccess file. So the URL looks like: www.domain.com/blah/blah/ Here's the .htaccess file contents: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on #allow cool urls RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php [L] #allow to have Url without index.php If I remove the .htaccess file, and expose the front controller in the URL: www.domain.com/index.php/blah/blah/, Chrome works perfectly fine. Any thoughts ideas? I'm thinking it's some kind of problem with how Chrome identifies what cookie to use and send to the server? This happens in Chrome 4 & 5. Thanks!

    I'm developing a communication API to be used by a lot of generic clients to communicate with a proprietary system. This proprietary system exposes an API, and I use a particular classes to send and wait messages from this system: obviously the system alert me that a message is ready using an event. The event is named OnMessageArrived. My idea is to expose a simple SendSyncMessage(message) method that helps the user/client to simply send a message and the method returns the response. As soon as the event arrived, checks if the message is the one I expect (checking the unique guid), otherwise continues to wait for the next event. This because could be (and usually is in this way) a lot of clients working concurrently, and I want them to work parallel. As I implemented my stuff, at the moment if I run client 1, client 2 and client 3, client 2 starts sending message as soon as client 1 has finished, and client 3 as client 2 has finished: not what I'm trying to do. Can you help me to fix my code and get my target? Thanks!

  • iPhone, special characters in JSON Response

    Writing an iphone app, and I'm getting my data from a REST API that returns JSON. My problem is, some of the data has special characters embedded and Im getting errors. Example: MartÌn Petite-RiviËre-Saint-FranÁois Here is my current code: NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:receivedData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSMutableArray *tempResults = [[[jsonString JSONValue] objectForKey:@"getRegionResortsLastUpdatedResponse"] objectForKey:@"return"]; Whenever the data has special characters in it "jsonString" return "(null)", otherwise everything works fine. Is this something I can handle on my end, or does the API need to be modified to output the character codes?

    Greetings, Using the Facebook API, I have obtained an OAuth access token for a user. I can use it to retrieve information about the user and post to their wall, etc. I'm trying to figure out how to (or if there is a way to) programmatically get a list of pages a user owns (so that they can be presented in a drop-down list on a third-party site). I have been unable to find such a method in the Facebook API, but I'm hoping I've missed something. Thanks!

    My project deals with both Web app and Mobile app. So before we can use Linkedin API's into our project we need to register our app with Linkedin according to this Quick Start. But for my situation where i use Linkedin API's for both web and mobile, Do i need to register two application with Linkedin. Or is there any other way to register a single application and use the same for both web and mobile? In the registration page i don't see any distinction for Web and Mobile, unlike facebook where a single application registered can be used for both web and mobile app. If anyone could point me to appropriate docs or pointers, it would be really helpful. FQL could be an alternative (from table like and subqueries for friend and stream), but FQL seems so buggy in my tests I don't feel comfortable using it in a productive system. Is there anyway to achieve my target using the GRAPH api?

The client-side flow is used when you need to make calls to the Graph API from a client, such as JavaScript running in a Web browser or from a native mobile or desktop app. What is the difference between access tokens taken by these flows? It seems like they length differ. Can we use server-side flow token on a client? And otherwise, can we use client-side flow token on a server?

  • Application not showing up in Google Play for 4.x devices

    I recently posted about the Play store not letting me publish my app without a minSdkVersion, but whenever I set it to anything above "1" my app just doesn't work (minSdkVersion breaking program). So this guy suggested to just set my minSdkVersion to 1, which worked. But now when I submitted my app even though the developer site says: API level: 1-16+ Supported screens: normal-xlarge OpenGL textures: all But the app only shows it supports Android under 4.x, I developed it on my 4.0.4 device. I tried searching around and I found that some people have problems with services messing up the phones it supports, so I deleted all of my services, because I don't really need any for this version of the app to submit. And it still didn't work. So I don't know what else to do, here is my AndroidManifest.xml if it helps... I've been trying to figure out why my application isn't working for a week now, still nothing. I have tried setting a targetSdkVersion to something like 14, my application still breaks. I cleaned out my code, taking everything out of the already short, 200 lines, application, and it still isn't working. Is there something I can't use in an android application 4.0 that I am using in my application? or is it just my AndroidManifest? When I did the same on my phone, Galaxy Note, it opened in the Google Play Store, but then said "Not compatible." Why? They are both on the same version of OS. Why is mine not compatible, nor the One X compatible, but the Samsung Galaxy S3 worked...? Edit: I get these errors/problems when compiling with a targetSdkVersion, http://pastebin.com/mxgWNLdM

    Hello, I have developed a browser using the standard WebBrowser control in my application that is built against CF 3.5. Google search is not working in the browser. That is when i navigate to www.google.co.in and type a keyword and click on the serach button nothing is happening. Outside the application from the device if i try the same thing in IE am getting a security warning dialog box and if ok is clicked search results are shown. So in my case do i need to set property on the webbrowser control. Thanks in advance

    I would like to create a jQuery plugin with an API something like this: $("#chart").pluginName().attr("my_attr"); Instead of these: $("#chart").pluginName_attr("my_attr"); $.pluginName.attr("#chart", "my_attr"); Basically, instead of having to namespace every method that acts similar to ones in jQuery, I'd like to "scope" the methods to a custom api, where $("#chart).pluginName() would return an object such that get, attr, find, and a few others would be completely rewritten. I'm sure this is not a well-liked idea as it breaks convention (does it?), but it's easier and more readable, and probably more optimized, than the two options above. What are your thoughts?

  • Aggregating and displaying content from hundreds of RSS feeds

    I'd like to build a website that aggregates and displays content from hundreds of RSS feeds. The feeds will be from different sites: Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, etc, so the content will be very heterogenous. In a perfect world — and this is more of a side issue — I would like to allow other people to help manage the list of feeds and assign tags to the content from each individual feed so that you can filter the items that are displayed. What I've tried so far: Google Feeds API – I thought this would be the answer, but unless I'm missing something, the FeedController will only output the collected feed content as separate lists. Is there any way to ask the Google Feeds API to aggregate and sort the content from many RSS feeds before displaying? Yahoo! Pipes – This also seemed like a good solution at first. I setup a Pipe that accesses a list of RSS feeds stored in a Google Doc spreadsheet and then aggregates the content. However, the output leaves a lot to be desired; Tumblr video posts, for example, only show a title and a permalink to the post, the embedded Youtube video is lost. PHP – I've seen this question, which looks like a good approach. I'm less proficient in PHP, so although I'm willing to learn, I'd ideally like to find a different approach. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Hi This is pretty hard to explain but i'll give it a shot. Working with Safari to create an extension as is now possible with Safari 5 - how would I go about getting the URL of the current page with using JavaScript and the Safari API? I would also like to be able to get a hyperlink that is selected. For instance in Safari when you right click on a hyperlink and it says open in a new tab, open in a window etc - clicking opens that hyperlink. What part of the API is used to get access to the link itself, and how does it know its a link in the first place? I hope thats clear enough. Thanks

  • Are there any portable Cloud APIs that allow you to easily change cloud hosts?

    I am creating a web-based RESTful service and want to cloud-enable it for scalability. I don't want to get locked into one cloud provider though. I'd like to be able to switched between Go Grid or Amazon EC2, etc. as pricing and needs evolve. Is there a common API to control the launch, monitoring and shutdown of cloud resources? I've seen Right Scale, but their pricing is just from another planet. Similarly, is there a common API for cloud storage?

    Question Is there a usable facebook entry point to the Data Storage API that facebook lists on their app admin page for developers, or should I consider an alternate mechanism? What alternative mechanisms exist to simply persist my information offsite (away from my server app) without stuffing it into a cookie that's prone to expire? ... Background The facebook Data Store Admin tool is made available in a facebook App's Settings as seen here: (continue reading below) However when I visit the DataStoreAdmin link nothing works (i.e. clicking the buttons to define the data store types and objects does nothing - I have tried different browsers). The Wiki page for Data Store API hasn't been updated recently and the second last update says the beta Data Store was taken offline. It seems odd the link would be readily available and highly visible at the top of the App configuration area if indeed it's defunct. I was hoping some kind of key/value pair solution to remove the data calls from my own server.
