• how to install gfortran package on ubuntu 12.04 offline pc

  I have downloaded gfortran package from there site and now looking for installing it on the offline ubuntu 12.04 pc... please don't close this question stating possible duplicate. I am looking for steps to install the package by extracting and installing it. I don't want to use get-offline neither keryx nor to use some other online ubuntu systems. I am very much clear.. I have the downloaded package and I am looking forward for the steps to install the package with out accessing internet. Thanks!

  I've just done an online upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 - seemed to have gone well, but now I cannot access other drives (partitions) on my PC, also flash drives. • Enforce VPN connection to access the Internet

  I'm using a VPN when I'm online at an unencrypted wifi. Unfortunately, at my university the connection is quite unstable and at every reconnect the VPN connection is terminated and I manually need to reconnect to it using the NetworkManager, which obviously only works if I notice the reconnect. I enabled the option to automatically connect to the VPN in the NM options, but it seems to have no effect. Is there a way to enforce an active VPN connection before any other application can access the network connection so I can be sure not to send private data over unencrypted connections?   Been playing with live discs since 10.10 but now have gone ahead and dual booted. I have a Acer 5742z with a Nplify 802.11b/g/n wireless connection. The install went well and drivers seem to be working. BUT, although wireless detects some local networks it doesn't find mine. I have WPA-PSK security on my modem, could this be the problem?? I don't want to change my modem settings as all my other WIFI devices are contected to it. So I need help in finding my home network. A step by step guide would be useful. I am using Windows 7 now to write this but would love it if I could use Ubuntu online. I only can when I connect an Ethernet cable. Thanks in advance.

There are times when individuals ask me about Small or Medium sized business trends.  Interestingly,  the Enterprise Social, Mobile, and Sensor initiatives I regularly discuss are in fact related to even the Mom and Pop storefront. The eco-system of new service players in the Social-Mobile-Sensor space generally emerge developing partnerships with enterprises as they develop and bring economy to scale to their services for the larger market. And of course Oracle has an entire division dedicated for delivering products and support to help emerging companies compete without the need to open an industrial strength credit line.. So here are some trends that we are helping large enterprises to deploy today, but small and medium businesses should be able to take advantage of by the end of this year and starting into 2015. 1) The typical small business is generally "Localized". But the ability to be "Hyper-Localized" will come as location based services become ubiquitous. Many small businesses have one or several storefronts and theirs are typically within a single regional economic footprint. While the internet provides global reach, it will be the businesses that invest in social, mobile and local that will win in the end.  Of course I am a huge SoMoLo evangelist. The SMBs' content and targeting with platforms for Geo-Fencing, Geo-Conquesting and Path-Matching to HHI are all going to be accessible to them, if not for Mobile Apps, then via Mobile messaging in Social Networks that offer it.. Expect to be able to target FaceBook messaging not by city, but by store or mall… This makes being able to be "Hyper-Local" even more important. And with new proximity services coming online more than ever before, SMBs will operate and service customers with pinpoint accuracy right down to where they stand in an aisle. Geo-Conquesting will be huge for small players to place ads when customers pass through competitors regions. Car Dealers are doing this now.. But also of course iBeacons are now very cheap and getting easier to put in retail stores. The ability for sales to happen anywhere in the store via a mobile phone or tablet is huge, as it will give the small shop the flexibility to not have to "Guard the Register" as more or most transactions will be digital. Thus, M-Commerce and T-Commerce will change the job of cashier dramatically.. 2) Intra-Brand Advocacy, the idea now is that rather than just depend on your trusty social media manager and his team, you are going to push more and more individuals with expertise inside the organization to help manage, reach-out, and utilize social channels to manage the incoming questions and answers customers need. While for years CRM was the tool of the enterprise, today CRMs enable this now "Salesforce et al" capability to trickle throughout the company. This gives greater pressure to organize roles, but also flatten out the organization. Internal collaboration around topics and customer needs is going to be the key for SMBs to finally get serious about customer experiences. Their customers are online and in social networks. This includes not just B2C SMBs but also B2B companies as well. Don't believe me?   I want some software for Windows where I can save code snippets and other daily usable commands in one file. Everyday I find some small code snippets which I want to save in a single file. Just like we have code snippet savers online, I want something offline on Windows, basically with all the features Microsoft Word has, but with code highlight. It should be lightweight like Notepad++. I mean if I select the code and then press some button, it should change the color according to the language. Currently I use Notepad++, but in it, I can't select small code snippets on one page. It either highlights the entire file or nothing.

• implementing match-making & community system for multiplayer games

  These days, games often have multiplayer portals with chat channels & match making system for the multiplayer aspects of the game. An example would be battle.net, magic the gathering online's chat rooms, halo etc. Now, for the rest of us indie gamers that probably won't be able to spend much development effort on creating those back-ends from scratch, what options do we have? I was thinking of something along the line of using IRC as the backbone of the system. From there, the "community" aspect and implement player tracking, game tracking and match making on top of that. It seems to be what the old battle.net (brood war era) used to be. The question is, is this easy to do? What does it take to run an irc server, and I suppose this also requires writing an IRC client (which seems to have been done a lot these days?)? If there are other ways as well (say, an open framework for this stuff), let's hear them too.

• Multiplayer mobile games and coping with high latency

  I'm currently researching regarding a design for an online (realtime) mobile multiplayer game. As such, i'm taking into consideration that latencies (lag) is going to be high (perhaps higher than PC/consoles). I'd like to know if there are ways to overcome this or minimize the issues of high latency? The model i'll be using is peer-to-peer (using Photon cloud to broadcast messages to all other players). How do i deal with a scenario where a message about a local object's state at time t will only get to other players at *t + HUGE_LAG* ?

  I would like to write a technical blog. However, the biggest things holding me back is my poor spelling, punctuation, and grammar (I have all these problems even though I am a native English speaker). I am thinking about using a professional editing/proofreading service to fix my blog posts before I post them. However, given the content will be technical in nature (some articles will get into details of programming) and I would like to write them in markdown, I am not sure if the general online services will be a good fit.
