  • Zend: How to authenticate using OpenId on local server.

    - by NAVEED
I am using zend framework. Now I want to authenticate users with other already registered accounts using RPX. I am following the 3 steps as described at RPX site: 1- Get the Widget 2- Receive Tokens 3- Choose Providers I created a controller(person) and action(signin) to show widget and my own signin form. When following action (http://test.dev/#person/personsignin) is called then my own login form and widget is shown successfully. # is used in above URL for AJAX indication. public function personsigninAction() { $this->view->jsonEncoded = true; // Person Signin Form $PersonSigninForm = new Form_PersonSignin(); $this->view->PersonSigninForm = $PersonSigninForm; $this->view->PersonSigninForm->setAction( $this->view->url() ); $request = $this->getRequest(); if ( $request->isPost() ) { } } There are two problems while login using openid widget: When I am authenticated from outside(for example: Yahoo) then I am redirected to http://test.dev, therefor indexAction in called in indexController and home page is shown. I want to redirect to http://test.dev/#person/personsignin after authentication and want to set session in isPost() condition of personsigninAction() (described above). For now I consider indexAction to be called when outside authentication is done. Now I posted the code from http://gist.github.com/291396 in indexAction to follow step 3 mentioned above. But it is giving me following error: An error occured: Invalid parameter: apiKey Am I using the right way to use this. This is my very first attempt to this stuff. Can someone tell me the exact steps using my above actions? Thanks.

  • JQUERY, Compare two Text Blocks, and then animate only the new text

And I'd like to append, and not flash the entire block. So only the new stuff is flashed. Any ideas on how to do this in JQUERY?

  • Templates vs. coded HTML

    - by Alan Harris-Reid
I have a web-app consisting of some html forms for maintaining some tables (SQlite, with CherryPy for web-server stuff). First I did it entirely 'the Python way', and generated html strings via. code, with common headers, footers, etc. defined as functions in a separate module. I also like the idea of templates, so I tried Jinja2, which I find quite developer-friendly. In the beginning I thought templates were the way to go, but that was when pages were simple. Once .css and .js files were introduced (not necessarily in the same folder as the .html files), and an ever-increasing number of {{...}} variables and {%...%} commands were introduced, things started getting messy at design-time, even though they looked great at run-time. Things got even more difficult when I needed additional javascript in the or sections. As far as I can see, the main advantages of using templates are: Non-dynamic elements of page can easily be viewed in browser during design. Except for {} placeholders, html is kept separate from python code. If your company has a web-page designer, they can still design without knowing Python. while some disadvantages are: {{}} delimiters visible when viewed at design-time in browser Associated .css and .js files have to be in same folder to see effects in browser at design-time. Data, variables, lists, etc., must be prepared in advanced and either declared globally or passed as parameters to render() function. So - when to use 'hard-coded' HTML, and when to use templates? I am not sure of the best way to go, so I would be interested to hear other developers' views. TIA, Alan

  • MVC 2 Data annotations problem

    - by Louzzzzzz
Hi. Going mad now. I have a MVC solution that i've upgraded from MVC 1 to 2. It all works fine.... except the Validation! Here's some code: In the controller: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Globalization; using System.Linq; using System.Security.Principal; using System.Web; using System.Web.Mvc; using System.Web.Security; using System.Web.UI; using MF.Services.Authentication; using System.ComponentModel; using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations; namespace MF.Controllers { //basic viewmodel public class LogOnViewData { [Required] public string UserName { get; set; } [Required] public string Password { get; set; } } [HandleError] public class AccountController : Controller { [HttpPost] public ActionResult LogOn(LogOnViewData lvd, string returnUrl) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { //do stuff - IsValid is always true } } } } The ModelState is always valid. The model is being populated correctly however. Therefore, if I leave both username and password blank, and post the form the model state is still valid. Argh! Extra info: using structure map for IoD. Previously, before upgrading to MVC 2 was using the MS data annotation library so had this in my global.asax.cs: ModelBinders.Binders.DefaultBinder = new Microsoft.Web.Mvc.DataAnnotations.DataAnnotationsModelBinder(); Have removed that now. I'm sure i'm doing something really basic and wrong. If someone could point it out that would be marvellous. Cheers

  • Overriding windows authentication for a .NET application

    - by JoshReedSchramm
I have a .NET application where the homepage (default.aspx) should be accessible by anyone. There is also a reporting page (reporting.aspx) that I want to secure via windows authentication and only allow access to a particular set of AD groups. Right now the way my web.config is setup it is securing the reporting page but on the home page it prompts the user for login credentials. If they hit esc they can continue to the page though so it isnt actually securing it. I need to prevent it from prompting the user. How do i need to setup my config. Here is what i have now - <system.web> <authentication mode="Windows" /> <identity impersonate="true" /> <authorization> <allow roles="BUILTIN\Administrators, DomainName\Manager" /> <deny users="?" /> </authorization> ...MORE STUFF... </system.web> <location path="default.aspx"> <system.web> <identity impersonate="false" /> <authorization> <allow users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location>

  • Handling one-to-many relationship with ZF partialLoop

    - by snaken
    Lets say i'm listing musical artists, each artist has basic information like Name, Age etc. stored in an artist table. They also have entries in an Albums table (album name/album cover etc), referencing the artist table using the artist id as a foreign key. I have the Model_Artist (Artist.php) file: class Model_Artist extends Zend_Db_Table_Abstract { protected $_name = 'artist'; protected $_dependentTables = array('Model_ArtistAlbums'); public function fetchArtistss() { $select = $this->select(); return $this->fetchAll($select); } } and to the Model_ArtistAlbums (ArtistAlbums.php) file class Model_ArtistAlbums extends Zend_Db_Table_Abstract { protected $_name = 'albums'; protected $_referenceMap = array( 'Artists' => array( 'columns' => 'alb_art_id', 'refTableClass' => 'Model_Artist', 'refColumns' => 'art_id' ) ); // etc } in my controller: public function indexAction() { /* THIS WORKS $art = new Model_Artist(); $artRowset = $art->find(1); $art1 = $artRowset->current(); $artalbums = $art1->findDependentRowset('Model_ArtistAlbums'); foreach($artalbums as $album){ echo $album->alb_title."<br>"; } */ $arts = new Model_Artist(); $this->view->artists = $arts->fetchArtists(); } in the view file: $this->partial()->setObjectKey('artist'); echo $this->partialLoop('admin/list-artists.phtml', $this->artists); but with this code in artists/list-artists.phtml: foreach($this->artist->findDependentRowset('albums') as $album): // other stuff endforeach; i get this error: Fatal error: Call to a member function findDependentRowset() on a non-object A var_dump of $this->artist = NULL.

  • Should business objects be able to create their own DTOs?

    - by Sam
Suppose I have the following class: class Camera { public Camera( double exposure, double brightness, double contrast, RegionOfInterest regionOfInterest) { this.exposure = exposure; this.brightness = brightness; this.contrast = contrast; this.regionOfInterest = regionOfInterest; } public void ConfigureAcquisitionFifo(IAcquisitionFifo acquisitionFifo) { // do stuff to the acquisition FIFO } readonly double exposure; readonly double brightness; readonly double contrast; readonly RegionOfInterest regionOfInterest; } ... and a DTO to transport the camera info across a service boundary (WCF), say, for viewing in a WinForms/WPF/Web app: using System.Runtime.Serialization; [DataContract] public class CameraData { [DataMember] public double Exposure { get; set; } [DataMember] public double Brightness { get; set; } [DataMember] public double Contrast { get; set; } [DataMember] public RegionOfInterestData RegionOfInterest { get; set; } } Now I can add a method to Camera to expose its data: class Camera { // blah blah public CameraData ToData() { var regionOfInterestData = regionOfInterest.ToData(); return new CameraData() { Exposure = exposure, Brightness = brightness, Contrast = contrast, RegionOfInterestData = regionOfInterestData }; } } or, I can create a method that requires a special IReporter to be passed in for the Camera to expose its data to. This removes the dependency on the Contracts layer (Camera no longer has to know about CameraData): class Camera { // beep beep I'm a jeep public void ExposeToReporter(IReporter reporter) { reporter.GetCameraInfo(exposure, brightness, contrast, regionOfInterest); } } So which should I do? I prefer the second, but it requires the IReporter to have a CameraData field (which gets changed by GetCameraInfo()), which feels weird. Also, if there is any even better solution, please share with me! I'm still an object-oriented newb.

  • structured vs. unstructured data in db

    - by Igor
the question is one of design. i'm gathering a big chunk of performance data with lots of key-value pairs. pretty much everything in /proc/cpuinfo, /proc/meminfo/, /proc/loadavg, plus a bunch of other stuff, from several hundred hosts. right now, i just need to display the latest chunk of data in my UI. i will probably end up doing some analysis of the data gathered to figure out performance problems down the road, but this is a new application so i'm not sure what exactly i'm looking for performance-wise just yet. i could structure the data in the db -- have a column for each key i'm gathering. the table would end up being O(100) columns wide, it would be a pain to put into the db, i would have to add new columns if i start gathering a new stat. but it would be easy to sort/analyze the data just using SQL. or i could just dump my unstructured data blob into the table. maybe three columns -- host id, timestamp, and a serialized version of my array, probably using JSON in a TEXT field. which should I do? am i going to be sorry if i go with the unstructured approach? when doing analysis, should i just convert the fields i'm interested in and create a new, more structured table? what are the trade-offs i'm missing here?

  • rename files with the same name

    - by snorpey
    Hi. I use the following function to rename thumbnails. For example, if I upload a file called "image.png" to an upload folder, and this folder already has a file named "image.png" in it, the new file automatically gets renamed to "image-copy-1.png". If there also is a file called "image-copy-1.png" it gets renamed to "image-copy-2.png" and so on. The following function returns the new filename. At least that's what it is supposed to do... The renaming doesn't seeem to work correctly, though. Sometimes it produces strange results, like: 1.png 1-copy-1.png 1-copy-2.png 1-copy-2-copy-1.png 1-copy-2-copy-3.png I hope you understand my problem, despite my description being somewhat complex... Can you tell me what went wrong here? (bonus question: Is regular expressions the right tool for doing this kind of stuff?) <?php function renameDuplicates($path, $file) { $fileName = pathinfo($path . $file, PATHINFO_FILENAME); $fileExtension = "." . pathinfo($path . $file, PATHINFO_EXTENSION); if(file_exists($path . $file)) { $fileCopy = $fileName . "-copy-1"; if(file_exists($path . $fileCopy . $fileExtension)) { if ($contains = preg_match_all ("/.*?(copy)(-)(\\d+)/is", $fileCopy, $matches)) { $copyIndex = $matches[3][0]; $fileName = substr($fileCopy, 0, -(strlen("-copy-" . $copyIndex))) . "-copy-" . ($copyIndex + 1); } } else { $fileName .= "-copy-1"; } } $returnValue = $fileName . $fileExtension; return $returnValue; }?>

  • WPF HiercharchicalDataTemplate.DataType: How to react on interfaces?

    - by David Schmitt
Problem I've got a collection of IThings and I'd like to create a HierarchicalDataTemplate for a TreeView. The straightforward DataType={x:Type local:IThing} of course doesn't work, probably because the WPF creators didn't want to handle the possible ambiguities. Since this should handle IThings from different sources at the same time, referencing the implementing class is out of question. Current solution For now I'm using a ViewModel which proxies IThing through a concrete implementation: public interface IThing { string SomeString { get; } ObservableCollection<IThing> SomeThings { get; } // many more stuff } public class IThingViewModel { public IThing Thing { get; } public IThingViewModel(IThing it) { this.Thing = it; } } <!-- is never applied --> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type local:IThing}"> <!-- is applied, but looks strange --> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type local:IThingViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Binding Thing.SomeThings}"> <TextBox Text="{Binding Thing.SomeString}"/> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> Question Is there a better (i.e. no proxy) way?

  • Can nginx be used as a reverse proxy for a backend websocket server?

    - by John Reilly
We're working on a Ruby on Rails app that needs to take advantage of html5 websockets. At the moment, we have two separate "servers" so to speak: our main app running on nginx+passenger, and a separate server using Pratik Naik's Cramp framework (which is running on Thin) to handle the websocket connections. Ideally, when it comes time for deployment, we'd have the rails app running on nginx+passenger, and the websocket server would be proxied behind nginx, so we wouldn't need to have the websocket server running on a different port. Problem is, in this setup it seems that nginx is closing the connections to Thin too early. The connection is successfully established to the Thin server, then immediately closed with a 200 response code. Our guess is that nginx doesn't realize that the client is trying to establish a long-running connection for websocket traffic. Admittedly, I'm not all that savvy with nginx config, so, is it even possible to configure nginx to act as a reverse proxy for a websocket server? Or do I have to wait for nginx to offer support for the new websocket handshake stuff? Assuming that having both the app server and the websocket server listening on port 80 is a requirement, might that mean I have to have Thin running on a separate server without nginx in front for now? Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions. :) -John

  • Convert 4 bytes to int

    - by Oscar Reyes
I'm reading a binary file like this: InputStream in = new FileInputStream( file ); byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; while( ( in.read(buffer ) > -1 ) { int a = // ??? } What I want to do it to read up to 4 bytes and create a int value from those but, I don't know how to do it. I kind of feel like I have to grab 4 bytes at a time, and perform one "byte" operation ( like << & FF and stuff like that ) to create the new int What's the idiom for this? EDIT Ooops this turn out to be a bit more complex ( to explain ) What I'm trying to do is, read a file ( may be ascii, binary, it doesn't matter ) and extract the integers it may have. For instance suppose the binary content ( in base 2 ) : 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000001 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000010 The integer representation should be 1 , 2 right? :- / 1 for the first 32 bits, and 2 for the remaining 32 bits. 11111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 Would be -1 and 01111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 Would be Integer.MAX_VALUE ( 2147483647 )

  • General N-Tier Architecture Question

    - by whatispunk
In an N-Tier app you're supposed to have a business logic layer and a data access layer. Is it bad to simply have two assemblies: BusinessLogicLayer.dll and DataAccessLayer.dll to handle all this logic? How do you actually represent these layers. It seems silly, the way I've seen it, to have a BusinessLogic class library containing classes like: CustomerBusinessLogic.cs, OrderBusinessLogic.cs, etc. each calling their appropriately named cousin in the DataAccessLayer class library, i.e. CustomerDataAccess.cs, OrderDataAccess.cs. I want to create a web app using MVP and it doesn't seem so cut and dry as this. There are lots of opinions about where the business logic is supposed to be put in MVP and I'm not sure I've found a really great answer yet. I want this project to be easily testable, and I am trying to adhere to TDD methodologies as best I can. I intend to use MSTest and Rhino Mocks for testing. I was thinking of something like the following for my architecture: I'd use LINQ-To-SQL to talk to the database. WCF services to define data contract interfaces for the business logic layer. Then use MVP with ASP.NET Forms for the UI/BLL. Now, this isn't the start of this project, most of the LINQ stuff is already done, so its stuck. The WCF service would replace the existing DataAccessLayer assembly and the UI/BLL would replace the BusinessLogicLayer assembly etc. This sort of makes sense in my head, but its getting really late. Anyone that's traveled down this path have any guidance? Good links? Warnings? Thanks!

  • Beginner question about CSS and layout and height

    - by vtortola
Hi, I'm trying to create a very simple page that contains a container, a header, a left column and a footer: [containter] [header /] [content /] [leftBar /] [footer /] [/containter] (Sorry, I cannot paste the code properly, only appears the tag "body" and the rest disapears :S ... ) As you can see, very simple stuff. I want to use the 100% of the height, as I can do with the width, but I simply don`t get it work :S At his moment I'm using min-height, but how could I use the height:100% ? What I like is that the footer is always visible, and you scroll the content. This is what I have till the moment: body { font-family: Verdana; font-size: 0.8em; background-color:#f1f1f1; } container { border:solid 2px Black; position:absolute; left:10%; width:80%; margin:auto; } header { height:20px; background: #DDDDDD; } leftBar { width: 20%; background: #669966; min-height:600px; postion:absolute; top:20px; bottom:20px; } content { float:right; background-color: #cdcde6; position:absolute; left:20%; right:0px; bottom:20px; top:20px; padding:5px; } footer { position:absolute; height:20px; } I'm reading a book about CSS, but I still don't get the part about the height :S Thanks in advance.

  • Installing Gtk2 on portable strawberry

    - by XoR
    I downloaded "strawberry-perl-5.12.2.0-portable" and "gtk+-bundle_2.22.1-20101227_win32". I extracted strawberry-perl in some directory and there I put gtk folder with gtk stuff. In portableshell.bat I changed Path env and added: "%drivep%\gtk\bin;%drivep%\gtk\lib;". Don't ask me why I added lib directory, I saw that some guy added it in some website. When I run in portableshell command: "pkg-config --libs --cflags gtk+-2.0" I get: c:\test>pkg-config --libs --cflags gtk+-2.0 -mms-bitfields -Ic:/test/gtk/include/gtk-2.0 -Ic:/test/gtk/lib/gtk-2.0/include - Ic:/test/gtk/include/atk-1.0 -Ic:/test/gtk/include/cairo -Ic:/test/gtk/include/g dk-pixbuf-2.0 -Ic:/test/gtk/include/pango-1.0 -Ic:/test/gtk/include/glib-2.0 -Ic :/test/gtk/lib/glib-2.0/include -Ic:/test/gtk/include -Ic:/test/gtk/include/free type2 -Ic:/test/gtk/include/libpng14 -Lc:/test/gtk/lib -lgtk-win32-2.0 -lgdk-wi n32-2.0 -latk-1.0 -lgio-2.0 -lpangowin32-1.0 -lgdi32 -lpangocairo-1.0 -lgdk_pixb uf-2.0 -lpango-1.0 -lcairo -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -lgthread-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -lintl All folders looks fine, I also have complete log of compiling glib here. • How to compile a C DLL for 64 bit with Visual Studio 2010?

    - by Daren Thomas
I have a DLL written in C in source code. This is the code for the General Polygon Clipper (in case you are interested). I'm using it in a C# project via the C# wrapper provided on the homepage. This comes with a precompiled DLL. Since switching to a 64bit Development machine with Visual Studio 2010 and Windows 7 64 bit, the application won't run anymore. This is the error I get: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. This is because of DLLImporting the 32bit gpc.dll, as I have gathered from stuff found on the web. I assume this will all go away if I recompile the DLL to 64bit, but can't for the love of me figure out how to do so. My C skills are basic, in that I can write a C program with the GNU tools, but have no experience with various compilers / processors / IDEs etc. I believe I could port this to C#. By that I mean I trust myself to actually pull it off. But I'd prefer not to, since it is a lot of work that I'd prefer a compiler to do for me ;)

  • How to serialize a protected property in wcf

    - by Denis Rosca
Hello, i need some help with wcf serializing. I have two classes Person and Address. The Address class looks like this: public class Adresa : IExtensibleDataObject { private Guid _id; [DataMember] protected virtual Guid Id { get { return _id; } set { _id = value; } } private ExtensionDataObject _extensionData; [DataMember] public virtual ExtensionDataObject ExtensionData { get { return _extensionData; } set { _extensionData = value; } } private string _street; [DataMember] public virtual string Street { get { return this._cUTAM; } set { this._cUTAM = value; } } private string _number; [DataMember] public virtual string Number { get { return this._number; } set { this._number = value; } } private string _postalCode; [DataMember] public virtual string PostalCode { get { return this._postalCode; } set { this._postalCode = value; } } // and some other stuff related to the address } The Person class looks like this: public class PersoanaFizica :IExtensibleDataObject { private Guid _id; [DataMember] protected virtual Guid Id { get { return _id; } set { _id = value; } } private ExtensionDataObject _extensionData; [DataMember] public virtual ExtensionDataObject ExtensionData { get { return _extensionData; } set { _extensionData = value; } } private string _firstName; [DataMember] public virtual string FirstName { get { return this._firstName; } set { this._firstName = value; } } private string _lastName; [DataMember] public virtual string LastName { get { return this._lastName; } set { this._lastName = value; } } } The problem is that when the wcf client the data the Id properties are set to a bunch of zeros ( something like 000000-0000-000000-0000000). Any ideas on why this is happening? Thanks, Denis.

  • Info on type family instances

    - by yairchu
Intro: While checking out snoyman's "persistent" library I found myself wanting ghci's (or another tool) assistance in figuring out stuff. ghci's :info doesn't seem to work as nicely with type-families and data-families as it does with "plain" types: > :info Maybe data Maybe a = Nothing | Just a -- Defined in Data.Maybe ... > :info Persist.Key Potato -- "Key Potato" defined in example below data family Persist.Key val -- Defined in Database.Persist ... (no info on the structure/identity of the actual instance) One can always look for the instance in the source code, but sometimes it could be hard to find it and it may be hidden in template-haskell generated code etc. Code example: {-# LANGUAGE FlexibleInstances, GeneralizedNewtypeDeriving, MultiParamTypeClasses, TypeFamilies, QuasiQuotes #-} import qualified Database.Persist as Persist import Database.Persist.Sqlite as PSqlite PSqlite.persistSqlite [$persist| Potato name String isTasty Bool luckyNumber Int UniqueId name |] What's going on in the code example above is that Template-Haskell is generating code for us here. All the extensions above except for QuasiQuotes are required because the generated code uses them. I found out what Persist.Key Potato is by doing: -- test.hs: test = PSqlite.persistSqlite [$persist| ... -- ghci: > :l test.hs > import Language.Haskell.TH > import Data.List > runQ test >>= putStrLn . unlines . filter (isInfixOf "Key Potato") . lines . pprint where newtype Database.Persist.Key Potato = PotatoId Int64 type PotatoId = Database.Persist.Key Potato Question: Is there an easier way to get information on instances of type families and data families, using ghci or any other tool?

  • Java: Handling cookies when logging in with POST

    - by Cris Carter
I'm having quite some trouble logging in to any site in Java. I'm using the default URLconnection POST request, but I'm unsure how to handle the cookies properly. I tried this guide: http://www.hccp.org/java-net-cookie-how-to.html But couldn't get it working. I've been trying basically for days now, and I really need help if anyone wants to help me. I'll probably be told that it's messy and that I should use a custom library meant for this stuff. I tried downloading one, but wasn't sure how to get it set up and working. I've been trying various things for hours now, and it just won't work. I'd rather do this with a standard URLconnection, but if anyone can help me get another library working that's better for this, that would be great, too. I would really appreciate if someone could post a working source that I could study. What I need is: POST login data to site - Get and store the cookie from the site - use cookie with next URLconnection requests to get logged-in version of the site. Can anyone help me with this? Would be EXTREMELY appreciated. It really does mean a lot. If anyone wants to actually help me out live, please leave an instant-messenger address. Thank you a lot for your time.

  • Use localeURL middleware with apache prefix

    - by Olivier R.
Good morning everyone, I Got a question about localeURL usage. Everything works great for me with url like this : www.mysite.com/ If I type www.mysite.com/ in adress bar, it turns correctly in www.mysite.com/en/ for example. If I use the view change_locale, it's also all right (ie change www.mysite.com/en/ in www.mysite.com/fr/). But my application use apache as server, and use a prefix for the site, that gives url like this : www.mysite.com/prefix/ If I type www.mysite.com/prefix/ in the adress bar, the adress turns into www.mysite.com/en/ without prefix (so 404) I change code of view to manage our settings.SERVER_PREFIX value : def change_locale(request) : """ Redirect to a given url while changing the locale in the path The url and the locale code need to be specified in the request parameters. O. Rochaix; Taken from localeURL view, and tuned to manage : - SERVER_PREFIX from settings.py """ next = request.REQUEST.get('next', None) if not next: next = request.META.get('HTTP_REFERER', None) if not next: next = settings.SERVER_PREFIX + '/' next = urlsplit(next).path prefix = False if settings.SERVER_PREFIX!="" and next.startswith(settings.SERVER_PREFIX) : prefix = True next = "/" + next.lstrip(settings.SERVER_PREFIX) _, path = utils.strip_path (next) if request.method == 'POST': locale = request.POST.get('locale', None) if locale and check_for_language(locale): path = utils.locale_path(path, locale) if prefix : path = settings.SERVER_PREFIX + path response = http.HttpResponseRedirect(path) return response with this customized view, i'm able to correctly change language, but i'm not sure that's the right way of doing stuff. Is there any option on localeURL to manage prefix of apache ?

  • Application Architect vs. Systems Architect vs. Enterprise Architect?

    - by iaman00b
So many buzzwords. Not sure if I need to start playing BS Bingo or not. And I'm not trying to be cynical. But I've heard many people with these various titles. There never seems to be a clear delineation between the three. Or there's a lot of domain crossover between the three. Actually, another I've seen while looking around here on Stackoverflow has been "Solutions Architect" as well. But that one doesn't seem to be so prevalent in other places. There are questions here and there with vague answers. But I'd like definative answers to this. Please assume I'm still relatively new to software stuff and that I'm trying to map out a career path. Oh, and please be gentle folks; this most definitely is not a duplicate question. Neither is it an aggregate. So kindly leave it alone. Xp

  • parameterized doctype in xsl:stylesheet

    - by Flavius
How could I inject a --stringparam (xsltproc) into the DOCTYPE of a XSL stylesheet? The --stringparam is specified from the command line. I have several books in docbook5 format I want to process with the same customization layer, each book having an unique identifier, here "demo", so I'm running something like xsltproc --stringparam course.name demo ... for each book. Obviously the parameter is not recognized as such, but as verbatim text, giving the error: warning: failed to load external entity "http://edu.yet-another-project.com/course/$(course.name)/entities.ent" Here it is how I've tried, which won't work: <?xml version='1.0'?> <!DOCTYPE stylesheet [ <!ENTITY % myent SYSTEM "http://edu.yet-another-project.com/course/$(course.name)/entities.ent"> %myent; ]> <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"> <!-- the docbook template used --> <xsl:import href="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook/xhtml/chunk.xsl"/> <!-- processor parameters --> <xsl:param name="html.stylesheet">default.css</xsl:param> <xsl:param name="use.id.as.filename">1</xsl:param> <xsl:param name="chunker.output.encoding">UTF-8</xsl:param> <xsl:param name="chunker.output.indent">yes</xsl:param> <xsl:param name="navig.graphics">1</xsl:param> <xsl:param name="generate.revhistory.link">1</xsl:param> <xsl:param name="admon.graphics">1</xsl:param> <!-- here more stuff --> </xsl:stylesheet> Ideas?

  • Getting Google results in Java? Need help!

    - by Cris Carter
Hello. Right now, I'm trying to get the results from Google in Java, by searching for a term. I'm using a desktop program, not an applet. That in itself isn't complicated. but then Google gave me a 403 error. Anyways, I added referrer and User Agent and then it worked. Now, my problem is that I don't get the results page from Google. Instead, I get their script which gets the results page. My code right now simply uses a GET request on "http://www.google.com/search?q=" + Dork; Then it outputs each line. Here is what I get when I run my program: <.!doctype html<.head<.titledork - Google Search<./title<.scriptwindow.google={kEI:"9myaS-Date).getTime()}}};try{}catch(u){}window.google.jsrt_kill=1; align:center}#logo{display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;width:103px;height:37px; <./ script<./div Lots of stuff like that. I shortened it (A LOT) and put in dots to fit it here. So my big question is: How do I turn this whole mess into the nice results page I get when searching Google with a browser? Any help would be seriously appreciated, and I really need the answer fast. Also, please keep in mind that I do NOT want to use Google's API for this. Thanks in advance!

  • Organizing code, logical layout of segmented files

    - by David H
I have known enough about programming to get me in trouble for about 10 years now. I have no formal education, though I've read many books on the subject for various languages. The language I am primarily focused on now would be php, atleast for the scale of things I am doing now. I have used some OOP classes for a while, but never took the dive into understanding principals behind the scenes. I am still not at the level I would like to be expression-wise...however my recent reading into a book titled The OOP Thought Process has me wanting to advance my programming skills. With motivation from the new concepts, I have started with a new project that I've coded some re-usable classes that deal with user auth, user profiles, database interfacing, and some other stuff I use regularly on most projects. Now having split my typical garbled spaghetti bowl mess of code into somewhat organized files, I've come into some problems when it comes to making sure files are all included when they need to be, and how to logically divide the scripts up into classes, aswell as how segmented I should be making each class. I guess I have rambled on enough about much of nothing, but what I am really asking for is advise from people, or suggested reading that focuses not on specific functions and formats of code, but the logical layout of projects that are larger than just a hobby project. I want to learn how to do things proper, and while I am still learning in some areas, this is something that I have no clue about other than just being creative, and trial/error. Mostly error. Thanks for any replies. This place is great.

  • IoC & Interfaces Best Practices

    - by n8wrl
I'm experimenting with IoC on my way to TDD by fiddling with an existing project. In a nutshell, my question is this: what are the best practices around IoC when public and non-public methods are of interest? There are two classes: public abstract class ThisThingBase { public virtual void Method1() {} public virtual void Method2() {} public ThatThing GetThat() { return new ThatThing(this); } internal virtual void Method3() {} internal virtual void Method4() {} } public class Thathing { public ThatThing(ThisThingBase thing) { m_thing = thing; } ... } ThatThing does some stuff using its ThisThingBase reference to call methods that are often overloaded by descendents of ThisThingBase. Method1 and Method2 are public. Method3 and Method4 are internal and only used by ThatThings. I would like to test ThatThing without ThisThing and vice-versa. Studying up on IoC my first thought was that I should define an IThing interface, implement it by ThisThingBase and pass it to the ThatThing constructor. IThing would be the public interface clients could call but it doesn't include Method3 or Method4 that ThatThing also needs. Should I define a 2nd interface - IThingInternal maybe - for those two methods and pass BOTH interfaces to ThatThing?
