  I inherited a web application that makes calls to a web service. It is being developed in VS2008 SP1 and deployed to IIS6 (2k3 Server R2). Since I upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise RTM, the following line gets added to my Web.config: <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> The problem is that when I deploy this application to my web server I get the following error: The element 'transport' cannot contain child element 'extendedProtectionPolicy' because the parent element's content model is empty I can remove the line and it will work, but its a pain and I forget sometimes to remove it again (VS2008 adds seems to add it back whenever I load the solution!!). Is there anything that can be done?   In the lastest version of MVVM-light (V3 SP1) both "Dispose()" and "Dipose(bool)" methods in ViewModel class are marked Do not use this method anymore, it will be removed in a future version. Use ICleanup.Cleanup() instead Does this mean that IDisposable interface must not be implemented in all ViewModel classes that are derived from GalaSoft.MvvmLight.ViewModelBase (and cleanup must be overrided)? If yes, using can't be used for view-model instances... Probably I didn't understand something... Please clarify... What are the benefits of such cleaning up? Thanks.

  Greetings. I have a need to have a 'child' modal opended from a colorbox modal. Form - anchor - opens modal ('parent') - model has another anchor - open modal 'child' The problem is that when the 'child' modal closes via the $.fn.colorbox.close() Method this seems to close all the colorbox modal windows. I just need to close the 'child' (the second opened from the first modal), after I set a hidden on the 'parent' modal. Any suggestions on how to close just the second colorbox window? Using jQuery 1.3.2 and Colorbox 1.3.5

Because the task is rather big and contains multiple modules where users should be able to do stuff, I'm worried about designing a good data model for this. I just don't want to end up with a badly designed database. I want to have some decent examples of database structures for contracts / billing / orders etc to combine those in one nice relational database. • ItemsControl.ItemsSource MVVM performance

  I have an (non-virtualized) ItemsControl that binds its ItemsSource to a ObeservableCollection of ViewModel instances. Now once the large amount Model instances is loaded all the ViewModel complemnents needs to be added to that ObservableCollection. How can I add a large amount of ViewModels without making the UI Thread hang? I suppose the UI Thread hangs because each time a new item is added the ItemsControl needs to update itself and does layout etc. over and over again. Should I suspend the binding add all items and then resume? If so, how? Should I override the ObservableCollection to implement an AddRange so only 1 CollectionChanged Event is fired for adding multiple items? Or alternatively just replace the whole collection? Or is it better to add each items separately and call Dispatcher.Invoke for each item separately? So I would unblock frequently. How do you handle large dynamic lists that can not be virtualized?

  Consider an ASP.NET MVC application that requires a session variable be set. It's used throughout the app. It'll be set by either reading a hashed value on the browser cookie, or after having the user login. In the WebForms + Master Page model, I'd check the Page_Load() of the master page. Perhaps not the ultimate event, but it was an easy one to find. How would you check and enforce the existance of a session variable in ASP.NET MVC? Consider that this question might not involve user login details, but some other piece of data (first visit time, perhaps).

  There are a lot of information how to build Silverlight application using .NET RIA services, but it isn't clear what is unique thing in RIA that is absent in WCF? Authentication? Validation? Is it relly asset for you? At the moment the only thing I see: with RIA services usage you don't need to host WCF service manually and don't need to configure any references on the client side (clien side == Silverlight application). • Django ORM: Ordering w/ aggregate functions — None special treatment

  Hi, I'm doing query like that: SomeObject.objects.annotate(something=Avg('something')).order_by(something).all() Now, I normally have an aggregate field in my model that I use with Django signals to keep in sync, however in this case perfomance isn't an issue so I thought I'd keep it simple and just use subqueries. This approach, however, presented an unexpected issue: It all works grate if aggregate function results are like this: [5.0, 4.0, 6.0 … (etc, just numbers)] However if you mix in some Nones than it's being ordered like this: [None, 5.0, 4.0 …] The issue is that None has higher value than any number, while it should have value at most of 0. I'm using PostgreSQL and haven't tested w/ other DBs. I haven't actually checked what query is generated etc. I worked it around by just sorting in memory: sorted(…, key=lambda _:_.avg_rating if _.avg_rating is not None else 0) So I'm just curious if you know a way to do it w/ just Django ORM. Perhaps .where? or something… Kind regards

  I have an EntityDataSource where I'm trying to replace some previous code-behind work. My EntityDataSource looks like: <asp:EntityDataSource runat="server" ID="personDataSource" ContextTypeName="Model.GuidesEntities" EntitySetName="CharacterFavorites" OrderBy="it.Person.FullName" Select="it.Person.Id" Where="it.UserName = @userName" /> When when I actually use it I get the error: 'Person' is not a member of type 'Transient.rowtype[(Id,Edm.Int32(Nullable=True,DefaultValue=))]' in the currently loaded schemas. Does the EntityDataSource not support walking the relationships? How would you do this with the EntityDataSource? Also the @userName parameter is being added in the code behind for now. Extra points for anyone who knows how to specify a username parameter directly in the WhereParameters collection.

  when we bind to heterogeneous collection of objects, not all objects have the same set of properties. in the output window we get a message like: System.Windows.Data Error: 39 : BindingExpression path error: 'RoundingFactor' property not found on 'object' ''MultiLineTextMarkingScheme' (HashCode=7262386)'. BindingExpression:Path=RoundingFactor;.......... This doesn't appear to be an exception, but we are concerned it has a performance impact. Should we be concerned and create a view model that has all the properties we wish to bind to (and have the properties that dont exist on the underlying element return null) or can we just leave it. This situation often occurs in a grid scenario where there might be large numbers of these binding failures.

  Hello everybody, I have [DisplayName("Country")] public List<SelectListItem> Countries { get; set; } property in Model class for DropDownList. When I try to check if the ModelState.IsValid on form postback it's always false & error for Countries tells "Can't convert [value] to SelectListItem" or some of a kind. I figured out there is no straight-forward mapping for drop down selected value (looks like I'll have to read value from Form value collection), but how can I ignore binding and validation for List property? I just want to make ModelState.IsValid attribute to be true if all the other fields are populated properly. Thank you in advance

• TryUpdateModel is not working for new Record on ASP.NET MVC Page?

  Hi I have a customer Registartion page using ASP.NET MVC with fields like FirstName, LastName, Address from AddressDetail Table. When i create a new object for CustomerMaster and trying to update the fields using TryUpdateModel, it is not updating. But the TryUpdateModel is working fine on the Edit Profile Page and that particular record is referenced.   Hello all, I am architecting a software project and I want to create a SAAS (Software As a service) one. I want to model my application along the lines of Salesforce. I really like there customization features but I am not sure how they really go about it. I read that they create an ID for every field that is required and then store the corresponding data too. Can anyone guide me as to how this is possible. For example, if I want to store an employee record. 2 fields (firstname, lastname) are already given and the user adds a third field(say DOB), how is data going to be stored? I would also appreciate if someone could give me some resources to practical examples of implementing a SAAS architecture. Thanks

  We need to insert a web beacon (i know taboo) in to adobe PDFs to know when they are opened, as one of our clients is moving to a model of "giving" their documents away and following up repeat viewers for subscriptions. Its not enough to be able to provide a download, they want to attach the PDF to an email and "blast" to directed recipients (double-opt-in etc). Adding the javascript to the pdf is easy enough: (iText) and the "openAction" event. However the security box pops up and displays: "Security Warning" "Document is trying to connect to 'xxxx.yyy.com' if you trusty the site choose Allow. If do not trust the site choose Block" [help] [allow] [block] I don't think we need to completley overhaul the dialogue box, I just think we need to change the middle text to be more descriptive of why we are doing it.   Hi, On a webserver (shared hosting provider) I published a website with a ADO.Net Framework model in use with MySql Connector 6.3.1. When I request a page, a Security Exception will be happen with this error messages: "LinkDemand The type of the first permission that failed was: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer ". This exception raised when code collect the listeners of a tracksource: public class MySqlTrace { private static TraceSource source = new TraceSource("mysql"); static MySqlTrace() { foreach (TraceListener listener in source.Listeners) // <-- Exception throw here { // ... } } } The web.config doesn't have any trace data or system.diagnostics. My question is, why will a get a LinkDemand security exception during collecting the source listeners. What can maybe be wrong in here?

  Hello, I am using windows script host for some kind of installer application and I'm creating shortcuts in start menu with it. This problem came up when I switched to x64 environment (win7 ultimate x64+vs2010) I added a reference to Windows Script Host Object Model (from c:\windows\syswow64\wshom.ocx), it generated Interop.IWshRuntimeLibrary dll. I added 'using IWshRuntimeLibrary;' to my .cs files, but when I tried to create WshShell sh = new WshShellClass(); it throws an exception: Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.IWshRuntimeLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. I assume that I would need 64-bit version of that wshom.ocx for this to work, but I don't know what should I try. Or I'll just dump Windows Script stuff, but I need another way to create start menu shortcuts from .net application. Thanks

  When I upload a photo, my model fails validation, err well even without any validations I'm returned this error: /tmp/stream20100103-13830-ywmerx-0 is not recognized by the 'identify' command. and /tmp/stream20100103-13830-ywmerx-0 is not recognized by the 'identify' command. I'm confident this is not related to ImageMagick because I've removed any image processing from the uploading, also I've tried uploading different mime types, like .txt files and the such. Additionally, I found something that may work. A blog post claims that putting the following in my environment (in this case development.rb) Paperclip.options[:command_path] = "/opt/local/bin"

• Spring webflow validation

  Hi, complete and utter newbie on spring webflow (and indeed, spring mvc). 30 minutes in... got the first page of my flow appearing, which happens to be a captcha, an input field and a submit button. The actual captcha value is stored in session and i need to validate that the input field values matches the value in session. In order to do validation, my model is passed a 'ValidationContext'. Question: i can't seem to access session data from the ValidationContext. How do i do this? Thanks!

• asp.net mvc changing one menu based on which controller is selected from another menu

  Hi, I am envisioning a site layout like this- top navigation menu linking to maybe 4 or 5 indexes of different controllers. each of these sections will be working with different model objects. Left navigation menu is specific to a controller. so, for each of the top menu buttons (corresponding to different controllers) I would like the left navigation menu to offer options only specific to the currently used controler. What's the best way to go about setting this up? Thanks!!
