• How can we implement change notification propagation for WPF and SL in the MVVM pattern?

  Here's an example scenario targetting MVVM WPF/SL development: View data binds to view model Property "Target" "Target" exposes a field of an object called "data" that exists in the local application model, called "Original" when "Original" changes, it should raise notification to the view model and then propogate that change notification to the View. Here are the solutions I've come up with, but I don't like any of them all that much. I'm looking for other ideas, by the time we come up with something rock solid I'm certain Microsoft will have released .NET 5 with WPF/SL extensions for better tools for MVVM development. For now the question is, "What have you done to solve this problem and how has it worked out for you?" Option 1. Proposal: Attach a handler to data's PropertyChanged event that watches for string values of properties it cares about that might have changed, and raises the appropriate notification. Why I don't like it: Changes don't bubble naturally, objects must be explicitly watched, if data changes to a new source, events must be un-registered/registered. Why I kind of like it: I get explicit control over propogation of changes, and I don't have to use any types that belong at a higher level of the application such as dependancy properties. Option 2. Proposal: Attach a handler to data's PropertyChanged event that re-raises the event across all properties using the name property name. Why I don't like it: This is essentially the same as option 1, but less intelligent, and forces me to never change my property names, as they have to be the same as the property names on data Why I kind of like it: It's very easy to set up and I don't have to think about it... Then again if I try to think, and change names to things that make sense, I shoot myself in the foot, and then I have to think about it! Option 3. Proposal: Inherit my view model from dependancy object, and notify binding sources of changes directly. Why I don't like it: I'm not even 100% sure dependancy properties/objects can DO this, it was just a thought to look into. Also I don't personally feel that WPF/SL types like Dep Obj belong at the view model level. Why I kind of like it: IF it has the capability that I'm seeking then it's a good answer! minus that pesky layering issue. Option 4. Proposal: Use a consistant agent messaging system based off of Task Parallels DataFlow Library to propogate everything through linked pipelining. Why I don't like it: I've never tried this, and somehow I think it will be lacking, plus it requires me to think about my code completely differently all the way around. Why I kind of like it: It has the possiblity of allowing me to do some VERY fun manipulations with a push based data model and using ActionBlocks as validation AND setters to then privately change view model properties and explicitly control PropertyChanged notifications.

  Any guidance on the following issue would be greatly appreciated. In which MDIParent event should I disable the items/buttons? Activated? On program Launch, I want the buttons disabled. If there are no active MDIChildren, I want the buttons disabled. When I launch a child form, I want to test that child form for data. If it is a blank form, I want the buttons to remain disabled. I currently have my code in the MdiChildActivated Event Handler. Thanks for your time.

• Javascript onscroll and mouse position

  I have a script that runs a addEventListener for onmousemove and onscroll on the document body to get the cursor position. A onmousemove event works fine (client + scroll), however when a onscroll event occurs clientX/Y seems to inherit scrollTop/Left values instead (only scroll). • Binding elements when modal window loads from AJAX (jQuery)

  I'd like to set up a drag'n'drop list inside a modal window. The window's content is loaded via an AJAX call, so I believe I need to use jQuery's .live() method. The modal window comes from the colorbox plugin. Note: I'm guessing that 'load' is not the right event to use, because if I throw a simple alert() in there, it doesn't even show up when the window loads.

  I'm looking to have a click event for all columns but the last column of a GridView and then have a separate click event for the last column of the gridview (a DropDownList). • B64 String Being Stripped From HttpService JSON Object Flex 4.0

  I am trying to decode some b64 images obtained from a web service in my Flex application. The response of this web service is a basic JSON object, with a property (B64Image) that contains the encoded string. The service works fine from my regular browser, however the b64 string gets stripped. So the object the result handler gets has a null value for B64Image. Anyone see something wrong here? • C# GridView dynamically built columns with textboxes ontextchanged

  My page is a bulk order form that has many products and various size options. I've got a gridview that has a 3 static columns with labels. There are then some dynamically built columns. Each of the dynamically built columns have a textbox in them. The textbox is for quantity. Trying to either update the server with the quantity entered each time a textbox is changed (possibly ontextchanged event) or loop though each of the rows column by column and gather all the items that have a quantity and process those items and their quantities all at once (via button onclick). If I put the process that builds the GridView behind a if(!Page.IsPostBack) then the when a textchanged event fires the gridview only gets the static fields and the dynamic ones are gone. If I remove the if(!Page.IsPostBack) the process to gather and build the page is too heavy on processing and takes too long to render the page again. Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks

• PHP: Can pcntl_alarm() and socket_select() peacefully exist in the same thread?

  I have a PHP CLI script mostly written that functions as a chat server for chat clients to connect to (don't ask me why I'm doing it in PHP, thats another story haha). My script utilizes the socket_select() function to hang execution until something happens on a socket, at which point it wakes up, processes the event, and waits until the next event. Now, there are some routine tasks that I need performed every 30 seconds or so (check of tempbanned users should be unbanned, save user databases, other assorted things). From what I can tell, PHP doesn't have very great multi-threading support at all. My first thought was to compare a timestamp every time the socket generates an event and gets the program flowing again, but this is very inconsistent since the server could very well sit idle for hours and not have any of my cleanup routines executed. I came across the PHP pcntl extensions, and it lets me use assign a time interval for SIGALRM to get sent and a function get executed every time it's sent. This seems like the ideal solution to my problem, however pcntl_alarm() and socket_select() clash with each other pretty bad. Every time SIGALRM is triggered, all sorts of crazy things happen to my socket control code. My program is fairly lengthy so I can't post it all here, but it shouldn't matter since I don't believe I'm doing anything wrong code-wise. My question is: Is there any way for a SIGALRM to be handled in the same thread as a waiting socket_select()? If so, how? If not, what are my alternatives here? Here's some output from my program. My alarm function simply outputs "Tick!" whenever it's called to make it easy to tell when stuff is happening. • Hot to trigger saved password autofill in browsers?

  I have a web application written in pure JavaScript (no pre-generated HTML except for the document which loads all the JS files). This app contains a login form which is created dynamically when the document.ready event event is triggered. I trick the browser into displaying the "Remember password?" dialog by posting the login form into a hidden iframe before logging in using ajax (in Firefox the password appears on the saved password list, so this part obviously works) but saved passwords never get filled in after the login screen is loaded again at a later time. The same thing happens in Firefox and Safari. Is there something I can do or some function I can call to trigger autofill?

We have a MKmapView with a bunch of Image Annotation where each Image annotation responds to touch by overriding these methods of AnnotationView subclass: -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event; -(void) touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event Our map region is updated using [MkMapView setRegion:animated:] whenever the new location is received and is far enough from the old location to make a difference. What I noticed is that if we set animated flag to YES the touches on our annotation are rarely detected(probably due to the fact that main thread is busy animating between two map regions. When we set animated flag to NO, everything is fine, but map transition may(or may not) become jerky. The question I have is whether this is an expected behavior of animated flag of [MkMapView setRegion:animated] function or whether there is a workaround for this issue. Thanks in advance

  I'm writing a scheduling program with a difficult programming problem. There are several events, each with multiple meeting times. I need to find an arrangement of meeting times such that each schedule contains any given event exactly once, using one of each event's multiple meeting times. Obviously I could use brute force, but that's rarely the best solution. I'm guessing this is a relatively basic computer science problem, which I'll learn about once I am able to start taking computer science classes. In the meantime, I'd prefer any links where I could read up on this, or even just a name I could Google.

  Hello, I'm writing a web app which will allow creation of events. An event can have a title as well as a description amongst other things. The app needs to be multilingual. So I have 4 tables for localization: ResourceTypes, ResourceKeys, Resources, and Locales. A resource key can have multiple values in Resources table for different locales. So Resources is a many to many table between ResourceKeys and Locales. So in the event table I want to have a resourceKey for its title as well as a resourceKey for its description. So my question is, is it OK from database-design perspective to have two foreign keys from a table into another table? Has anybody used a better approach in such a scenario?

  Hi, When using Jquery UI Sortable (which is great by the way) how do you get the item that is currently being sorted. When you use $(this); it return the actual sortable list, not the current sorted item. I want to do fancy-pants things with the widget when the user is dragging it around. E.g. Animate it when dragging between two lists. So how do I get the current item being sorted?
