• Selecting keys based on metadata, possible with Amazon S3?

  I'm sending files to my S3 bucket that are basically gzipped database dumps. They keys are a human readable date ("2010-05-04.dump"), and along with that, I'm setting a metadata field to the UNIX time of the dump. I want to write a script that retrieve the latest dump from the bucket. That is to say I want the the key with the largest unix time metadata value. Is this possible with Amazon S3, or is this not how S3 is meant to work? I'm using both the command line tool aws, and the python library boto

• How do I make OneNote 2007 images searchable when inserted via code?

  When I insert an image into OneNote 2007 using C# my images have 'Make Text in Image Searchable' set to Disabled. How do I insert an image with Make Text in Image Searchable enabled, or how do I enable this property after the image is imported. I have already imported a lot of images. How to I make the existing imported images searchable? I already know how to do this manually by right clicking the image and setting the language. The OCR works fine, I just need to do it automatically.

• What Swing look and feel should I use for a Java desktop application?

  I am developing a Java desktop application and I use Swing to build the GUI. I realize that I can change the look of my app by setting different L&Fs. The JRE (from SUN) provides me at least two L&Fs, one is the default Metal L&F and the other is the "System" L&F which let my app have a native look. Also I can find some really cool L&Fs on the internet. The question is: which L&F should I use for my desktop app? Someone said the native look will be more user friendly, is that true? If I use the system L&F, should I make different versions of my user handbook (since the UI will change according to the OS)?

  Hi All, In Second Life, I have an avatar and a primitive object that are moving with changing velocity. I use the LIBOMV library to create a text client to Second Life. Using this LIBOMV text client, I am trying to record the update packets of that avatar and object that are being sent to my text client by the server. I get frequent update packets for the avatar as its velocity changes, but I do not get update packets for the object that frequently, although it has a changing velocity. I would like to know whether there is any special setting I should use in order to solve this problem. /Su

• Is there a way of combining Ogre3d's Hikari and BlazeDS?

  I am trying to load a swf into an Ogre3d/Hikari application and that swf uses BlazeDS to communicate with a Tomcat server. The swf is from another project that is used in a browser environment. So, the swf is served from Tomcat to the client's browswer. It seems like there are two main issues. The first is a sandbox issue with using the swf in a different sandbox type than a browser environment. The other issue seems to be setting up the BlazeDS message broker and the other communication channels and endpoints. As far as both of the issues are concerned, it seems like the Hikari application is similar to an Adobe Air application and can use similar approaches. Does this seem like a reasonable approach? Does anybody have any similar experiences? If so, how were things configured?

• Browser Side Photo Editing Library

  Hi! Currently I'm searching for a free solution to simple edit some photos at the users browser. Resizing and Cropping would be mandatory. I'm not searching for an online service (for example SUMO or PIXLR which are great), because I want to include the software into a WYSIWYG Editor. JavaScript would be really nice, but it would have to work in IE 8. Pixastic is a great example, but works only in modern browsers (not IE 8 :-/) Any suggestions what I could use? Maybe setting up some kind of image processing service with ImageMagick and communicating with it through AJAX could also be an solution? Has anyone gained some experience with such a solution?

• Will Django user permissions work for models with inline tabular forms of other models?

  I am setting up DJango admin to make a model editable. On the same page I have tabular inline of a child model. Everything works as expected. Now I want to restrict permission on the tabular inline child form. Specifically remove update and delete permissions on it. I have tried removing the permissions for the admin user using the 'user permissions' of that user. However, it does not work. Does DJango respect the user permissions in regards to inline model forms?

  Is it possible to cancel a UIView animation while it is in progress? Or would I have to drop to the CA level? i.e. I've done something like this (maybe setting an end animation action too): [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:duration]; [UIView setAnimationCurve: UIViewAnimationCurveLinear]; // other animation properties // set view properties [UIView commitAnimations]; But before the animation completes and I get the animation ended event, I want to cancel it (cut it short). Is this possible? Googling around finds a few people asking the same question with no answers - and one or two people speculating that it can't be done.

  Hi, I have a 3G modem, and the accompanied "Mobile Partner" software really s*cks, and I want to make my own. Currently, I've found out the following: Sending/Interpreting AT commands Setting the APN/PIN/Network Registration/... These things were well-documented on many sites. But now I want to connect, and here the problems start: If I try to do a ATDT *99#, which should dial the *99# number, I get the message CONNECT. But what do I need to do now? How do I tell windows to use the dial in network? Is the '*99#' even the number I should dial? (I think so, because it's the default dialing number in the Mobile Partner application, and on OS X on my 3G modem) I'm writing this program in C#. Thank you! Yvan

• Extending LINQ classes to my own partial classes in different namespaces?

  I have a .dbml file which of course contains the auto-generated classes based on my tables. I would however, like to extend them to my own classes. Typically I design such that each of my tables get their own namespace in their own folder containing all of their associated dao and service classes. So if I am dealing with a page that only has to do with 'customers' for instance, I can only include the customerNS. But when using LINQ I seem to be unable to do this. I have tried removing a default namespace from the project, I have tried putting the .dbml file into it's own folder with a custom namespace and then adding a 'using' statement, but no nothing works. I also saw the Entity Namespace, Context Namespace, and Custom Tool Namespace properties associated with the .dbml file and tried setting all these to names x and trying 'using x' in my other class to allow me to extend partial classes, but it just doesn't work. Is this possible or do I have to keep all extended partial classes in the same namespace as the .dbml file?

  I have few common views in most of my viewControllers. What I noticed is that I can reuse single code for all viewControllers which is absolutely wise. For this I decided to create a class Utils which has static methods like +(void)createCommonViews:(float)yAxis:(NSString*)text; In my case common views are three labels and two images. Problem : I am not able to add these views from Utils. I am wondering how can I send self as a parameter so that I may add the views from Utils. It may be wrong to add views outside the viewController. In that case what can be the solution? Taking all these views in a UIView, setting return type of Utils method as UIView and then adding UIView to viewController(after calling method from viewController) might solve my problem.   Hi there, we've had a ASP.NET web application deployed for a number of years now.... last week we migrated to a slightly slower server to save some money. Now we're frequently getting command timeouts: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding This is understandable in that a slower server will take longer to produce results; take longer time and produce a timeout. Is there any system-wide way to get SqlClient to set a longer timeout? We cannot change the code, as it's everywhere... we're using multiple data access technologies as well. Maybe there's a default command timeout setting on a connection string? We just need to increase it by 30 seconds; we're happy to wait a bit longer for queries to return. thanks

• How do I get property injection working in Ninject for a ValidationAttribute in MVC?

  I have a validation attribute set up where I need to hit the database to accomplish the validation. I tried setting up property injection the same way I do elsewhere in the project but it's not working. I even tried with but with no luck. I am using C#3.0. Need help

• Is there an easy way to sign a C++ CLI assembly in VS 2010?

  Right now I am setting the Linker/Advanced/KeyFile option. I am getting the "mt.exe : general warning 810100b3: is a strong-name signed assembly and embedding a manifest invalidates the signature. You will need to re-sign this file to make it a valid assembly.". Reading from the web, it sounds like I have to set the delay signing option, download the SDK, and run sn.exe as a post build event. Surely there must be an easier way to do this common operation in VS2010?

  I'm pushing a UITableViewController onto a navigationController. The title (set in the viewDidLoad) shows up but not the table. numberOfSectionsInTableView is called. But tableView:numberOfRowsInSection: is not called. I'm passing in 1 so it should be looking for number of rows. - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } I'm setting up the view in the following manner: SelectUserViewController *nextController = [[SelectUserViewController alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; nextController.managedObjectContext = managedObjectContext; OrangeQCAppDelegate *delegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [delegate.navigationController pushViewController:nextController animated:YES]; Again, the viewDidLoad method is called. And my class is set up as follows: @interface SelectUserViewController : UITableViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> {...} What else should I be looking at? When I go through the debugger, after it looks at numberOfSectionsInTableView it just disappears (I think it is in the UITableViewController class) and never comes back.

• How to set up Django app to make cookies work on subdomain

  Hi, I have deployed my application on subdomain.domain.com (it works only on that one subdomain). Everything works fine except the fact that from time to time users cannot log in to application (the message "Looks like your browser isn't configured to accept cookies. Please enable cookies, reload this page, and try again" is shown when trying to log into admin panel). I've noticed that restarting the web server eliminates this problem for some time. Does anyone have experience with setting up django project on subdomain and can guide me how to configure my application to make it work correctly without need to ocasionally make reset?

• Sharing [config] data across modules,functions

  I have some configuration data in a config file that I read off disk when the app starts. I need to make that configuration data available to other functions/modules in the application. I started down the path of looking into ets/mnesia to store the data on startup to make it shared among all processes, but then my inner voice cautioned me that there must be a more functional, erlang-y way to do this. The only alternate approach I've come up with so far is setting up a module that has an actor loop that reads the data on startup and responds to messages like {Key, From} and responds by From ! {ok,Value}. • Imagick: gifs, and background color

  Hi, I have 2 questions about using the php imagick class that I can't get working properly... 1.) I tried resizing / cropping a gif, and treated it as a normal image. It seemed to work, except that a few frames in the middle of the animation contained a small patch of artifacts. Is there a setting that should be used when working with multi-frame gifs? 2.) Is there a simple command to resize images if they are too small by just adding a background? For instance, if an image is 10x10, could I add a white background, and have a 100x100px image with the original in the upper left corner? Thanks for any help!

  I have a bare-bone express application, exactly the one that is created with the express command. I have installed socket.io and attached it to my server, like this: var app = express(), server = http.createServer(app), io = io.listen(server); server.listen(8000); Now, I also have the routes files, which is called like this: app.get('/', routes.index); Inside this module I have the following function: exports.index = function(req, res){ socket.emit('news', { message: "foo" }); }; This obviously leads to a 500 reference error, because the routes file is an exportable module, and obviously has no idea what the socket is, as it is located in the app.js file. Is there a way I can access this socket object from this, or any other file? Please note that it is attached to the express generated app. extra: what about getting/setting session data? • JCarousellite not working in IE8

  I have a user who's having issues running the JCarousellite plug-in in IE8. Not just on my own site, but also on the jcarousellite homepage (http://www.gmarwaha.com/jquery/jcarousellite/) It runs fine on my own machine and all his IE Security settings/levels are the same as my own (Secruity is at "Medium-High" and Privacy at "Medium"). JQuery also seems to be working for him as other aspects controlled by jquery on the site are functioning correctly. I use Firefox normally, so am not aware of every feature IE8 offers, but am thinking he has some setting/option set incorrectly. Anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions for settings I could look at changing? Thanks

• Problem with superfish submenu being trimmed by content in Firefox

  Greetings, I have a problem which would seem to involve some kind of z-index issue, but for a change it's in everything except IE. If you take a look at http://cougar.motivo.com.au/ in anything except Internet Explorer and hover over the last menu item "Contact Us" you can se what I'm referring to. Basically the supersub menu appears to be being trimmed by the width of the element below it. You can see via the source that I've tried setting z-indexes & position:relative, but at this point I'm stumped. Any and all input would be gratefully received :) P.S. I am aware that there are still a couple of issues in IE6. I am yet to have the pleasure of addressing those (groans).

• How to show a client-side message with Java JSF/Tobago?

  I have a web application created with JSF and Tobago. The user types some date into a sheet and clicks a button (all within one sheet-row). Now my java class checks whether the data is correct or not. In case there are some problems, I would like to show up something like a messagebox containing the errormessage. I cannot use something like JDialog, since this would happen only server side. Every user independently of his location needs to get the message. I thought about setting the error information into a databean and having my jsp show up the message after reloading. But how can I achieve this? Is there something like a tag which can be used for this? Or can I use the "confirmation" facet for this? But how would I start it without having the user to do something? Thanks in advance!

• HSQLDB and in-memory files

  Is it possible to setup HSQLDB in a way, so that the files with the db information are written into memory instead of using actual files? I want to use hsqldb to export some data structures together with hibernate mappings. Is is, however, not possible to write temporary files, so that I need to generate the files in-memory and return a stream with their contents as a response. Setting hsqldb to use nio seems not to be a solution, because there is no way to get hold of those files before they get written onto the filesystem. What I'm thinking of is a protocol handler for hsqldb, but I didn't find a suitable solution yet. Just to describe in other words: A hack solution would be to pass hsqldb a stream or several streams. It would then during its operation write data into those streams. After all data is written, the user of the db could then use those streams to send it back over the network.
