• Git: What is a tracking branch?

  Can someone explain a "tracking branch" as it applies to git? Here's the definition from git-scm.com: A 'tracking branch' in Git is a local branch that is connected to a remote branch. When you push and pull on that branch, it automatically pushes and pulls to the remote branch that it is connected with. Use this if you always pull from the same upstream branch into the new branch, and if you don't want to use "git pull" explicitly. Unfortunately, being new to git and coming from SVN, that definition makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm reading through "The Pragmatic Guide to Git" (great book, by the way), and they seem to suggest that tracking branches are a good thing and that after creating your first remote (origin, in this case), you should set up your master branch to be a tracking branch, but it unfortunately doesn't cover why a tracking branch is a good thing or what benefits you get by setting up your master branch to be a tracking branch of your origin repository. Can someone please enlighten me (in English)?

• Python appengine Query does not work when using a variable.

  Hi, I am trying to use a fetcher method to retrieve items from my datastore. If I use the following def getItem(item_id): q = Item.all() q.filter("itemid = ", item_id) It fails because nothing is returned. If I hard code in an item like def getItem(item_id): q = Item.all() q.filter("itemid = ", 9000) it fetches just fine, and sings merrily along. I have tried every which way to get this to work. I have used result = db.GqlQuery("SELECT * FROM Item WHERE item_id = :1 LIMIT 1", title).fetch(1) to the same effect. If I hard code in a number, works fine. I have tried setting the select statement as a local string, assembling it that way, casting the int as a string, and nothing. When I output the SELECT statement to the screen, looks fine. I can cut ans paste the output into the string, and whammo, it works. Any help would be appreciated.

• Updating only .dll of a reference in my ASP.NET Application

  Hello, I have a deployed web application project that references my Utility.dll class library. I want to make a change to the Utlity.dll and roll only that .dll out. The problem is that when I do that, I get the following error when I try to launch my site: Could not load file or assembly 'Utility, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3766481cef20a9d1' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) Is there a setting I can change so I don't have to roll out the entire web application project - only the Utlity.dll? Thanks!

I need to set up Drupal 6 as a multilanguage site. 1 installation, several language versions = several domains, i.e. English at englishsite.com French at frenchsite.com German at germansite.com. I've found a Tutorial that suggest that you need access to server's http.conf - this is quite unlikely on shared hosting. Is it really neccesary? Maybe You can set it up with .htaccess or any other way. Namely: what should I do to have such a configuration working ? (after setting Language negotiation to Domain name only on .../admin/settings/language/configure)

• Why is my CSS tool tip not functioning properly in Google Chrome, but fine in Firefox??

  http://betawww.helpcurenow.org/media/press/ You'll see I have used spans within an anchor, with the span.hover-description set to display:none; by default, and on a:hover that span is set to display block and absolutely positioned to create a tool-tip effect when hovering over the name and email of the "For Immediate Release" contact names. Everything looks as desired in Firefox, but Chrome reveals my unknown blunder somewhere. Any help on what's the problem that is causing Chrome to not display like Firefox? Incidentally, Explorer shows the tool tip as expected, although I'm getting a funky bottom margin issue below the names, and Safari has the same issue as Chrome (must be a webkit rendering setting that I need to accommodate for).

  I am trying to create a NSMutableArray by reading in a .txt file and am having trouble setting the last element of the array to nil. I also tried: [mutableList addObject:[NSNull null]]; but that does not seem to work either. Is there a way around this problem?

• Running multiple jvms for different applications in same machine

  We are getting frequent out of memory errors in our dev. machines We are running webshpere, eclipse, soap UI and maven in it. Our server gets down due to this "out of memory errors" when we restart our applications in websphere 2/3 times, We already increased the virtual memory setting in wesphere to 1GB. So what i did was copied the jre we use in eclipse and maven folders so that each of these uses individual jvms. But the performance of websphere is same. 2/3 restarts and out of memory errors. Is there any may of making eclipse and maven use different jvms other than websphere's?

• Forcing the browser to pop a save as dialog box from a link pointing to remote url

  Hi, I am building a web app that lets the user directly download files on a cdn by clicking a link. The link should point to the cdn url directly in order to minimize the load on our servers. We would like the to have the browser pop up the save as dialog box when the user clicks the link to download the file and not have the browser display the content of the file at all. So the page should not reload. However, we don't have access to setting the HTTP headers sent back from cdn. Is it possible to still pop up the save as dialog box for download using client-side code?

• Cocoa Screensaver Framework error message

  Hi, I'm trying to make a screen saver using the cocoa screensaver framework. The project builds fine and generates the .saver file, but when I try to run it in the preferences test window, it displays the error message: "You cannot use the screen saver with this version of Mac OSX. Please contact the vendor to get a newer version of the screen saver" I have the xcode settings to Release | x86_64, and I am running OSX 10.6.6 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. I've searched around online, and most of the solutions to this error message seem addressed to making sure the build is 64-bit, which the x86_64 setting should indeed take care of. I am trying to play a QT movie in the screensaver, if that makes any difference. I am at a loss, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

• Why is the dictionary debug visualizer less useful in Visual Studio 2010?

  I was debugging in Visual Studio 2010, which we just installed and trying to look at a dictionary in the quick watch window. I see Keys and Values, but drilling into those shows the Count and Non-Public members, Non-Public members continues the trail and I never see the values in the dictionary. I can run test.Take(10) and see the values, but why should I have to do that. I don't have VS 2008 installed anymore to compare, but it seems that I could debug a dictionary much easier. • How do I programmatically nullify a File Attachment in InfoPath Forms

  Howdy all, I'm running into a problem with some InfoPath C# code while trying to remove an attachment from a form. Basically the process is: User opens form User clicks button File attachment is cleared I've tried adding a blank attachment to my schema that never becomes populated, then setting the original field's value equal to that value by the method below. When debugging the form I catch an error: Schema validation found non-data type errors.   Hi I am a little confused about setting NTFS Permissions to a directory after I created Active Directory Groups (both programmatically). When I created the Active Directory Objects then I have to wait a few seconds to set the NTFS Permissions. If I have not this timeout then I get sometimes an error message that the identify (active directory groupname) could not found. Is it possible that the DirectorySecurity-Class from DirectoryInfo-Class has an different algorithm to get the idenfity from active directory objects? Because when I checking the existing of the groups in active directory with System.DirectoryServices all the objects exist suddenly after creation. Kind regards

  I'm building some YouTube search functionality into an iPhone app and want to ensure that I only receive results that will be playable on the device. According to the Searching for videos section in the API reference doc this seems to be relatively straightforward: The format parameter specifies that videos must be available in a particular video format. Your request can specify any of the following formats: I've currently set my project to only return videos with "format=1" which will limit to: RTSP streaming URL for mobile video playback. H.263 video (up to 176x144) and AMR audio. I'd love if someone could confirm that this is in fact the appropriate setting or let me know if I'm missing something. Cheers.

• Is it possible to find out what FlashBuilder is doing during compilation?

  I've found that Flash Builder 4 (formerly Flex Builder) has trouble working with large projects. After a certain point, builds seem to take longer and longer. I've tried many different ways of improving build time including: Moving embedded resources into externally linked projects. Using -incremental. Tweaking the .ini jvm settings including memory and -server. Turning off automatic build (I'd prefer not to have to do this, because one of the main reasons for using an IDE is to be told about errors as you make them). Deleting the project and re-checking out from the repository. While some of these may help a bit, the performance is still annoyingly slow. I feel if I knew what was taking so long I could refactor my projects to build faster. Is there some setting that tells FlashBuilder to let me see what parts of the build process take so much time?

I've tried setting FileMode to "fmOpenRead or fmShareDenyNone" but now realise this doesn't apply to text files anyway. • Can't change Emacs's default indentation between HTML tags

  I'm confused about the Emacs indentation paradigm. I have this in my .emacs file: (setq-default tab-width 4) If I press TAB in the following situation <ul> (caret) </ul> it end up like this <ul> (caret) </ul> (with 2 spaces indentation between the HTML tags.) It should end up like this: <ul> (caret) </ul> I tried everything: (setq-default tab-width 4) (setq-default indent-tabs-mode t) (setq tab-stop-list '(4 8 12 16)) I've set every possible Emacs setting about indentation to 4 but that 2 space indentation is still there. Any suggestions?

• FF3/Windows CSS z-index problem with YouTube player

  I'm stuck on what appears to be a CSS/z-index conflict with the YouTube player. In Firefox 3 under Windows XP, Take a look at this page: http://spokenword.org/program/21396 Click on the Collect button and note that the pop-up <div appears under the YouTube player. On other browsers the <div appears on top. It has a z-index value of 999999. I've tried setting the z-index of the <object element containing the player to a lower value, but that didn't work. Any idea how to get the pop-up to appear over the player?

  Hi all I am using a combination of PHP, jQuery and Spry to serve a series of listboxes in which a user will select first the type of vehicle, then the make, then the model and finally the specific model. All my listboxes (SELECT) are working fine, and they update properly using the Spry elements. Each listbox is populated from a different Spry XML Dataset, and this is my problem. If I present all four listboxes to the user, the script has to go and fetch all four lots of XML to populate all four listboxes, taking several seconds. What I want to do is to create/enable the listboxes in order, so at the user selects from the first listbox, the second is created/enabled, when they select from the second, the third is created/enabled... and so on. Setting the disabled attribute is no good because the script has already fetched the XML before this is processed. Any ideas?? Si

• Set height of Flex Accordion to height of tallest child

  By default the height of an Flex Accordion container is the height of the initially selected child. I'd like to be able to set the height to the tallest child so that no resizing or scrolling is necessary when other children are selected. I do not want to use the resizeToContent property. I want the size of the container to stay constant no matter what child is selected. My current thought is to extend the accordion class setting the creation policy to "all" and then override the measure function to loop through all the children and find the tallest one and use that for the height. This seems a little kludgy though, so I'd like to know if there is a better approach. Ultimately my question is: is there a way to set the size of an accordion container such that the container never resizes and scoll bars are never necessary to display any of the children?

• Git: can I store known repositories along the repository?

  I am setting up a Git repository. I know you can add repositories using git config --global, but is there a way that those known repositories gets cloned by users? The goal would be that once the repo gets cloned by userz, they can push to other repos just by their aliases. For example, I add git://X/mobility.git as X to the repo (somehow), a user clone it from git://Y, but then can do git push X without previously doing the git config. How to do that?

I have a div on a page with a CSS height:200px setting, which makes the DIV have a vertical scroll bar, which allows the user to scroll through a bunch of text. I would like to animate the DIV to expand in height until all content in the div is shown, meaning no more scroll bar I tried the following: $("#view-container").animate({"height": "auto"}, "slow"); but that didn't work while this does: $("#view-container").animate({"height": "1000px"}, "slow"); problem with that is the text size in the DIV is variable.   We recently migrated to VS 2010. We installed .NET 4.0 on our test machine. When we execute a console application that throws an exception, we no longer see the exception message and stack trace printed to the console but instead see the message An unhandled win32 exception occurred in something.exe [PID]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: No installed debugger has Just-In-Time debugging enabled. In Visual Studio, Just-In-Time debugging can be enabled from Tools/Options/Debugging/Just-In-Time. We do have the above setting enabled. What do we need to do to return to the behavior we had previously?

  I am at present developing a mvc4 project that comunicates to a set of wcf services. I am setting such up in tfs build for a team of developers. I am very much a newbie to fxcop and code analysis in general. I am currently researching it and have some questions following this: Is it recommended to use the rules that come with fxcop? Should it be included as a build task during builds? What is the value from it? Are there guidelines to what rules to abide by or is it best to go with the default? Is it correct to run the analysis as a post build event? I am a newbie to fxcop and would like some feedback. I am as it is integrating stylecop in to my build.

I've encountered in the following paragraph: “Debug vs Release setting in the IDE when you compile your code in Visual Studio makes almost no difference to performance… the generated code is almost the same. The C# compiler doesn’t really do any optimisation. The C# compiler just spits out IL… and at the runtime it’s the JITer that does all the optimisation. The JITer does have a Debug/Release mode and that makes a huge difference to performance.
