• Inverted index in a search engine

  Hello there, I'm trying to write some code to make a small application for searching text from files. Files should be crawled, and I need to put an inverted index to boost searches. My problem is that I kind of have ideas about how the parser would be, I'm willing to implement the AND, NOT, OR in the query. Whereas, I couldn't figure out how my index should be... I have never created an inverted index so if any body could suggest a feasable way to do it I would be very grateful... I do know in theory how it works but my problem is I absolutely have no idea to make happen in MySql I need to give keywords being indexed a weight too... Thank you so much.

• Tips on creating a "build a bracelet" app

  I have an idea for an app/game which is basically a build your own bracelet. I will give to the user, say, 5 different types of beads, and the user and drag those beads into a line that is previously drawn in the screen and create his/her bracelet. I am now thinking on the best way to approach this. Would be using the android's OpenGL libraries (and therefore, creating the beads and loading its textures) the best and easiest way? Ultimately, I would like to push new beads into the application whenever I have a new bead texture. Thanks, Felipe

• PHP won't let page update automatically every day/6 hours

  A friend build a ranking system on his site and I am trying to host in on mine via wordpress and godaddy. It updates for him but when I load it to my site, it works for 6 hours, but as soon as the reload is supposed to occur, it errors and I get a 500 timeout error. • jQuery UI Autocomplete with scrollbar z-index help

  I have a textbox that I am attaching jQuery UI's Autocomplete functionality to and I am using CSS to give it a max height via the example here. My problem is that doing this causes the z-index problem that bgiframe solves to come back again, but in a different way. The initial autocomplete menu is above all the controls underneath it, but when I begin to scroll the autocomplete menu falls behind them. Any suggestions? EDIT: This is purely an IE6 bug. As you can see, after scrolling down the autocomplete falls behind the other controls.

• Collaborative Filtering Program: What to do for a Pearson Score When There Isn't Enough Data

  I'm building a recommendation engine using collaborative filtering. For similarity scores, I use a Pearson correlation. This is great most of the time, but sometimes I have users that only share a 1 or 2 fields. For example: User 1{ a: 4 b: 2 } User 2{ a: 4 b: 3 } Since this is only 2 data points, a Pearson correlation would always be 1 (a straight line or perfect correlation). This obviously isn't what I want, so what value should I use instead? I could just throw away all instances like this (give a correlation of 0), but my data is really sparse right now and I don't want to lose anything. Is there any similarity score I could use that would fit in with the rest of my similarity scores (all Pearson)?

I need to configure to it have multiple columns mapped to my list view. Do I need to change any javascript function or use sharepoint designer. I have spent a week trying to accomplish this.   Hi, I've scavenged on every single topic on this forum to try and find an answer before I posted this. Most people say you should simply use SWFUpload, some others mention Activex, and it keeps going. I know this is do-able, as Google does it with gMail when you try to upload a file that's bigger than 25mb, or executable. My question is, how can I determine the file size and mime-type before the file actually hits my server. I primarily thought it was an impossible task, but Google proves me wrong. Could anyone give me a definitive answer on how to accomplish such task? Thanks

But what I want, is to get duplicates with the same e-mails and names. I want to get Tom, Tom. I made a mistake, and allowed to insert duplicate name and e-mail values. Now I need to remove/change the duplicates. But I need to find them first.

  Anybody manage to get .net 4.0 applications compiling on a CI server without installing visual studio 2010 on a CI server. No SDK exists for .net 4.0. Have installed .NET 4.0 on CI Server. Msbuild.exe works for simple projects and give the following warning (GetReferenceAssemblyPaths target) - C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(847,9): warning MSB3644: The reference assemblies for framework ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0" were not found. To resolve this, install the SDK or Targeting Pack for this framework version or retarget your application to a version of the framework for which you have the SDK or Targeting Pack installed. Note that assemblies will be resolved from the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) and will be used in placeof reference assemblies. Therefore your assembly may not be correctly targeted for the framework you intend.

  I'm having an interesting problem signing my Android application, whether or not I'm using a debug key. Regardless of the JDK I have installed to /usr/bin/{java,keytool,jarsigner} (OpenJDK or Sun's JDK) it will always give the following output after compiling successfully: -package-debug-sign: [apkbuilder] Creating RemoteNotify-debug-unaligned.apk and signing it with a debug key... BUILD FAILED /home/ianweller/AndroidSDK/platforms/android-7/templates/android_rules.xml:281: The following error occurred while executing this line: /home/ianweller/AndroidSDK/platforms/android-7/templates/android_rules.xml:152: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.android.jarutils.DebugKeyProvider The application was built and signed just fine by Eclipse with the ADT plugin (even without Sun's JDK installed). I'm on Fedora 12. I'm wanting to get my code out of Eclipse and move it into a git repository, but being unable to build it from ant will not allow this to happen.

• why egrep's stdout did not go through pipe?

  Hi, i got a weird problem regarding egrep and pipe I tried to filter a stream containing some lines who start with a topic name, such as "TICK:this is a tick message\n" When I try to use egrep to filter it : ./stream_generator | egrep 'TICK' | ./topic_processor It seems that the topic_processor never receives any messages However, when i use the following python script: ./stream_generator | python filter.py --topics TICK | ./topic_processor everything looks to be fine. I guess there need to be a 'flush' mechanism for egrep as well, is this correct? Can anyone here give me a clue?   I am just beginning design work on a problem that I'm sure has been solved before. In a web based application, I need to: a) present a map b) place a set of points (map-pins) on the map c) allow the user at his browser to draw a simple closed curve on the map with his mouse d) send the path of that curve back to the server e) on the server, select from the set of points those that are within the closed curve. What are the best API's to use for this problem? Here's my stab at coding that -- though it doesn't really make sense to me that it'd be correct: NSSet * mySet = [myDict keysOfEntriesPassingTest:^(id key, id obj, BOOL *stop) { if( [[obj port] isEqual: [NSNumber numberWithInt: 8080]]) { return key; }] And that's because I get back the following compiler error: incompatible block pointer types initializing 'void (^)(struct objc_object *, struct objc_object *, BOOL *)', expected 'BOOL (^)(struct objc_object *, struct objc_object *, BOOL *)' What am I missing? I'd appreciate a pointer at some docs that go into more detail about the "Block object" that the predicate is supposed to be. Thanks!

  Experts - I need some advice in the following scenario. I have a configuration file with a list of tasks. Each task can have zero, one or more dependencies. I wanted to execute these tasks in parallel [right now they are being executed sequentially] The idea is to have a main program to read the configuration file and load all the tasks. Read individual tasks and give it to an executor [callable] that will perform the task and return results in a Future. When the task is submitted to the executor (thread) it will monitor for its dependencies to finish first and perform its own task. Is this the right approach? Are there any other better approaches using java 1.5 features?

• Starting a VC++ .exe from MSAccess

  For a complex calculating problem we use an VC++ module (.exe). For the users we have build an ms Access application as userinterface. After input dthe calculating module should start and do its job. The result is again imported in Ms Access. However we work wit dBase files (.dbf) as datafiles. The calculating unit works fine by its own, but when access is running it wo'nt do its job. It will start-up when called from the Access module, but then generates errors or at least does not write correct results to a datatable. We cannot find the reason for this beheavior. Can anyone give us a tip?

• Unit testing with django-celery?

  I am trying to come up with a testing methodology for our django-celery project. I have read the notes in the documentation, but it didn't give me a good idea of what to actually do. I am not worried about testing the tasks in the actual daemons, just the functionality of my code. Mainly I am wondering: How can we bypass task.delay() during the test (I tried setting CELERY_ALWAYS_EAGER = True but it made no difference)? How do we use the test settings that are recommended (if that is the best way) without actually changing our settings.py? Can we still use manage.py test or do we have to use a custom runner? Overall any hints or tips for testing with celery would be very helpful.

Lets say I have this list of days and prices: List<ReservationPrice> prices = new List<ReservationPrice>(); prices.Add(new ReservationPrice { NumberOfDays = 1, Price = 1000 }); prices.Add(new ReservationPrice { NumberOfDays = 2, Price = 1200 }); prices.Add(new ReservationPrice { NumberOfDays = 3, Price = 2500 }); prices.Add(new ReservationPrice { NumberOfDays = 4, Price = 3100 }); prices.Add(new ReservationPrice { NumberOfDays = 7, Price = 4000 }); What I would like to able to do now is: give me the best price from the list based on a number of days. So if ask for 3 days the best price from the list is from child one (1000) and two (1200), but there are of course different combinations you would have to try out at first. How would an algorithm that found the best price from this list look like ? Thank you!
