• Opa app does not load in Internet Explorer when compiled with Opa 1.1.1

  I did a minor update to the already working application and then had problems using new version of Opa compiler. I tried two different machines (Windows XP and 7) with IE 8 and 10. Web page does not load at all (looks like the network problem, but the same URL works fine in Firefox). I confirmed the same problem with "Hello world" from the Opa tutorial compiled with both Opa stable 1.1.1 and build from sources. I suspected that the problem is due to Node.js update (Opa = 1.1.1 requires Node 0.10.* - now I am using 0.10.12, but I also tried other 0.10-s), but "Hello world" from the Node's from page works fine. I am running the app on OSX developer box and Linux Debian 7.0 server. Any suggestions what am I doing wrong? PS. I was off the business for a while. Anyone knows what happened to the Opa forum? Signing is seams not to work.

• Intel MKL memory management and exceptions

  Hello everyone, I am trying out Intel MKL and it appears that they have their own memory management (C-style). They suggest using their MKL_malloc/MKL_free pairs for vectors and matrices and I do not know what is a good way to handle it. One of the reasons for that is that memory-alignment is recommended to be at least 16-byte and with these routines it is specified explicitly. I used to rely on auto_ptr and boost::smart_ptr a lot to forget about memory clean-ups. How can I write an exception-safe program with MKL memory management or should I just use regular auto_ptr's and not bother? Thanks in advance. • Java: Generics, Class.isaAssignableFrom, and type casting

  This method that uses method-level generics, that parses the values from a custom POJO, JXlistOfKeyValuePairs (which is exactly that). The only thing is that both the keys and values in JXlistOfKeyValuePairs are Strings. This method wants to taken in, in addition to the JXlistOfKeyValuePairs instance, a Class<T> that defines which data type to convert the values to (assume that only Boolean, Integer and Float are possible). It then outputs a HashMap with the specified type for the values in its entries.   One table in my MySQL database tracks game plays. It has the following structure: SCENARIO_VICTORIES [ID] [scenario_id] [game] [timestamp] [user_id] [winning_side] [play_date] ID is the autoincremented primary key. timestamp records the moment of submission for the record. winning_side has one of three possible values: 1, 2, or 0 (meaning a draw) One of the queries done on this table calculates the victory percentage for each scenario, when that scenario's page is viewed. The output is expressed as: Side 1 win % Side 2 win % Draw % and queried with: SELECT winning_side, COUNT(scenario_id) FROM scenario_victories WHERE scenario_id='$scenID' GROUP BY winning_side ORDER BY winning_side ASC and then processed into the percentages and such. Sorry for the long setup. My problem is this: several of my users play each other, and record their mutual results. So these battles are being doubly represented in the victory percentages and result counts. Though this happens infrequently, the userbase isn't large and the double entries do have a noticeable effect on the data. Given the table and query above - does anyone have any suggestions for how I can "collapse" records that have the same play_date & game & scenario_id & winning_side so that they're only counted once?

• Storing Credit Card Numbers in SESSION - ways around it?

  I am well aware of PCI Compliance so don't need an earful about storing CC numbers (and especially CVV nums) within our company database during checkout process. However, I want to be safe as possible when handling sensitive consumer information and am curious how to get around passing CC numbers from page to page WITHOUT using SESSION variables if at all possible. My site is built in this way: Step 1) collect Credit Card information from customer - when customer hits submit, the information is first run through JS validation, then run through PHP validation, if all passes he moves to step 2. Step 2) Information is displayed on a review page for customer to make sure the details of their upcoming transaction are shown. Only the first 6 and last 4 of the CC are shown on this page but card type, and exp date are shwon fully. If he clicks proceed, Step 3) The information is sent to another php page which runs one last validation, sends information through secure payment gateway, and string is returned with details. Step 4) If all is good and well, the consumer information (personal, not CC) is stored in DB and redirected to a completion page. If anything is bad, he is informed and told to revisit the CC processing page to try again (max of 3 times). Any suggestions?

• Android Cursor strange behaviour

  After many houres of bug searching in a big app, I have finally tracked down the bug. As you can see the problem is that '0' is interpreted as false on one occasion, and as true on another. Since I am completely lost on how this can happen, I dont know how to proceed. What could possibly result in such a behaviour? Both the columns are of the type "boolean", i.e a numeric in sqlite. Unfortunately the string returned is the correct value, while the integer is always 0. If I export the database to my computer and check it with SQlite Administrator I can see that the values are correctly set, it is only the getInt()-function that always returns 0. I know for a fact that this works in other apps I have coded, and I dont know why this has stopped working. I have tried compiling the code under 2.0, 2.0.1 and 2.1, and it always appears. I can make my app runnable again by getting boolean values like this: myBool= (DBresult.getString(0).equals("true")); but that is both ugly and not optimized. Any suggestions on what is causing this behaviour is welcome. Cheers,

• Errors with redefinitions after upgrade to XCode 3.2.3

  I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and Xcode 3.2.5 so I could test on my iPod Touch and iPhone and ran into some problems with the project I was working on. First it couldn't find a Base SDK, then my old frameworks weren't hooking up correctly. Finally after setting the Project Format to Xcode 3.1 compatible (3.2 also worked) and the Base SDK for all configurations to iOS 4.2, then setting my iOS deployment target to iOS 3.0 I was able to get the system to find a Base SDK and attempt a build. That's when the frameworks didn't want to cooperate. 4/6 I'm using displayed in red, so I re routed the path to the iPhone simulator 4.2 platform which worked perfectly. I was able to build my project, no errors or warnings and my app worked fine. I went to work last night thinking I had fixed the problem. This morning I fired up the laptop and went to build my code base and now have 1142 errors all of which have to do with code I haven't written deemed as being redefined. Suggestions? • Efficient way to store order in mySQL for list of items

  I want to code cleaner and more efficiently and I wanted to know any other suggestions for the following problem: I have a mySQL database that holds data about a set of photograph names. Oh, say 100 photograph names Table 1: (photos) has the following fields: photo_id, photo_name Ex data: 1 | sunshine.jpg 2 | cloudy.jpg 3 | rainy.jpg 4 | hazy.jpg ... Table 2: (categories) has the following fields: category_id, category_name, category_order Ex data: 1 | Summer Shots | 1,2,4 2 | Winter Shots | 2,3 3 | All Seasons | 1,2,3,4 ... Is it efficient to store the order of the photos in this manner per entry via comma delimited values? It's one approach I have seen used before but I wanted to know if something else is faster in run time. Using this way I don't think it is possible to do a direct INNER JOIN on the category table and photo table to get a single matched list of all the photographs per category. Ex: Summer shots - sunshine.jpg, cloudy.jpg, hazy.jpg because it was matched against 1,2,4 The iteration through all the categories and then the photos will have a O(n^2) and there has to be a better/faster way. Please educate me :)

• Crystal Reports.NET problems accessing FieldObject for page count

  Hi, We're using Crystal Reports.NET that was bundled with VS2005. We have a confirmation booking form letter report that we want to batch print. Generally this prints one page per person on letterhead paper, however occasionally if they've booked lots of courses the letter rolls over to two pages. The second page should not be printed to letterhead paper. Basically, because it's a rare occurance I was just going to print the lot and pause if a particular letter went over 1 page. I.e. Load the report, grab the page count, hollah at the user if it's more than one page otherwise carry on regardless. I have dropped a TotalPageCount on the footer of my report (Which I would supress if it worked!) and then try and read it in my application. Once I've loaded the document I am trying to call report.ReportDefinition.ReportObjects("TotalPageCount1") Which is of type CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.FieldObject I cannot seem to get the value out of this for love nor money (nor any amount of cursing and swearing!) I can read any items of type TextObject, but if I append the TotalPageCount to a text field, it shows correctly in the report but then returns "Page count: TotalPageCount" rather than "Page count: 1" for example. Soo, short of going out of my mind, does anyone have any suggestions? Either a way to read the value or a way round it. The printer doesn't have multiple trays, though even if we got one, I'm not sure how to convince crystal to print different pages to different trays. • Why doesn't setting clearTaskOnLaunch="true" cause OnCreate to be called?

  My application works fine, once it is initialized in the OnCreate method of my View class. However, when I open my app after the Droid phone has been sitting idle all night, the OnCreate method is not being called. I use the OnCreate to initialize data, and that in turn initializes the GUI. The GUI clearly shows that OnCreate was not called. I tried setting clearTaskOnLaunch="true" in my Manifest. • Using Everyauth/Express and Multiple Configurations?

  I'm successfully using Node.js + Express + Everyauth ( https://github.com/abelmartin/Express-And-Everyauth/blob/master/app.js ) to login to Facebook, Twitter, etc. from my application. The problem I'm trying to wrap my head around is that Everyauth seems to be "configure and forget." I set up a single everyauth object and configure it to act as middleware for express, and then forget about it. For example, if I want to create a mobile Facebook login I do: var app = express.createServer(); everyauth.facebook .appId('AAAA') .appSecret('BBBB') .entryPath('/login/facebook') .callbackPath('/callback/facebook') .mobile(true); // mobile! app.use(everyauth.middleware()); everyauth.helpExpress(app); app.listen(8000); Here's the problem: Both mobile and non-mobile clients will connect to my server, and I don't know which is connecting until the connection is made. Even worse, I need to support multiple Facebook app IDs (and, again, I don't know which one I will want to use until the client connects and I partially parse the input). Because everyauth is a singleton which in configured once, I cannot see how to make these changes to the configuration based upon the request that is made. What it seems like is that I need to create some sort of middleware which acts before the everyauth middleware to configure the everyauth object, such that everyauth subsequently uses the correct appId/appSecret/mobile parameters. I have no clue how to go about this... Suggestions? Here's the best idea I have so far, though it seems terrible: Create an everyauth object for every possible configuration using a different entryPath for each...

• Change Address/Port of WSDL EndPointAddress at runtime?

  So I currently have 3 WSDLs added as Service References in my solution. They look like this in my app.config file (I removed the "bindings" field, because it's uninteresting): <system.serviceModel> <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:8080/query-service/jse" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="QueryBinding" contract="QueryService.Query" name="QueryPort" /> <endpoint address="http://localhost:8080/platetype-service/jse" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="PlateTypeBinding" contract="PlateTypeService.PlateType" name="PlateTypePort" /> <endpoint address="http://localhost:8080/dataimport-service/jse" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="DataImportBinding" contract="DataImportService.DataImport" name="DataImportPort" /> </client> </system.serviceModel> When I utilize a WSDL, it looks something like this: using (DataService.DataClient dClient = new DataService.DataClient()) { DataService.importTask impt = new DataService.importTask(); impt.String_1 = "someData"; DataService.importResponse imptr = dClient.importTask(impt); } In the "using" statement, when instantiating the DataClient object, I have 5 constructors available to me. In this scenario, I use the default constructor: new DataService.DataClient() which uses the built-in Endpoint Address string, which is fine and good. But I want the user of the application to have the option to change this value. 1) What's the best/easiest way of programatically obtaining this string? 2) Then, once I've allowed the user to edit and test the value, where should I store it? I'd prefer having it be stored in a place (like app.config or equivalent) so that there is no need for checking whether the value exists or not and whether I should be using an alternate constructor. (Looking to keep my code tight, ya know?) Any ideas? Suggestions?

  Hello, I'm new to C++, and I'm trying to write a short C++ program that reads lines of text from a file, with each line containing one integer key and one alphanumeric string value (no embedded whitespace). The number of lines is not known in advance, (i.e., keep reading lines until end of file is reached). The program needs to use the 'std::map' data structure to store integers and strings read from input (and to associate integers with strings). The program then needs to output string values (but not integer values) to standard output, 1 per line, sorted by integer key values (smallest to largest).   I'm having a problem with optional function parameter in C++ What I'm trying to do is to write function with optional parameter which is passed by reference, so that I can use it in two ways (1) and (2), but on (2) I don't really care what is the value of mFoobar. • http_access.log on WebSphere 6.1.0.29

  I am running WebSphere 6.1.0.29 and I need to track the requests being made to an Enterprise Application. Previously I did this by routing the requests through a proxy server, but I need to repeat the exercise and I figure there must be a simpler way. Does anyone know how to enable HTTP access logging? I have been through the console an thought I had enabled http_access.log and http_error.log via: Application servers server1 HTTP error and NCSA access logging (where 'server1' is the application server) I've enabled the service at startup, and ticked the boxes to enable access logging and error logging - however... nothing has happened. I have restarted the server, restarted the Enterprise apps and even did a "find . -name" for the log files - but they don't seem to be anywhere on the system. I saw on a JavaRanch thread someone suggested writing a custom filter for requests in an application, but this seems like wild overkill - plus I am doing the logs to test a pre-built binary, so I don't want to mess with the code. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Help! :-)

• How to easily map c++ enums to strings

  I have a bunch of enum types in some library header files that I'm using, and I want to have a way of converting enum values to user strings - and vice-versa. RTTI won't do it for me, because the 'user strings' need to be a bit more readable than the enumerations. A brute force solution would be a bunch of functions like this, but I feel that's a bit too C-like. enum MyEnum {VAL1, VAL2,VAL3}; String getStringFromEnum(MyEnum e) { switch e { case VAL1: return "Value 1"; case VAL2: return "Value 2"; case VAL1: return "Value 3"; default: throw Exception("Bad MyEnum"); } } I have a gut feeling that there's an elegant solution using templates, but I can't quite get my head round it yet. UPDATE: Thanks for suggestions - I should have made clear that the enums are defined in a third-party library header, so I don't want to have to change the definition of them. • QSqlQuery UPDATE/INSERT DateTime with server's time (eg CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)

  I am using QSqlQuery to insert data into a MySQL database. Currently all I care about is getting this to work with MySQL, but ideally I'd like to keep this as platform-independent as possible. What I'm after, in the context of MySQL, is to end up with code that effectively executes something like the following query: UPDATE table SET time_field=CURRENT_TIMESTAMP() WHERE id='5' The following code is what I have attempted, but it fails: QSqlQuery query; query.prepare("INSERT INTO table SET time_field=? WHERE id=?"); query.addBindValue("CURRENT_TIMESTAMP()"); query.addBindValue(5); query.exec(); The error I get is: Incorrect datetime value: 'CURRENT_TIMESTAMP()' for column 'time_field' at row 1 QMYSQL3: Unable to execute statement. I am not surprised as I assume Qt is doing some type checking when it binds values. I have dug through the Qt documentation as well as I know how, but I can't find anything in the API designed specifically for supporting MySQL's CURRENT_TIMESTAMP() function, or that of any other DBMS. Any suggestions?

• Intermittent Issue Writing to Google Appengine Datastore

  Hi, I have a functioning app and recently have had intermittent problems writing to the datastore. I did not make any relevant code changes, however in the last few days my attempts to write to the datastore sometimes work and sometimes don't. I am trying to save an object that is in a many to one relationship with an existing persisted parent. So, the logic works like this: 1) Parent pulled from the datastore 2) Child created / instantiated using constructor 3) Parent.addSingleChild(child); // the "addSingleChild" method just adds the object argument to the collection of children 4) child.setParent(Parent); // sets the Parent object to the parent field I am using transactions as explained in the documentation ending with "finally {if (tx.isActive()) {tx.rollback(); } }" When the servlet is called, the parent is called from the datastore and the child object is created and added to the many to one mapping to the pre-existing parent. The child should automatically be persisted, since the parent is already persistent, and the child is added to the collection of children that map to the parent. And it worked this way in the past. However, to be sure, i did add a pm.makePersistent(child). Doesn't seem to help, still have the intermittent problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated, and if you need to see the actual code I can post. Thanks

• Load images into separate movie clips from a XML, Flash, Actionscript 3.0

  I have an xml image bank, pretty standard, and I have a loader, along with movie clips that I want the images loaded into, the problem that I am running into is I want the images to load into separate movie clips, so I’m using a case statement to specify where they go. However, I can only get them to load into a single movie clip, I assume they are loading ontop of each other and I don’t know how to get them to separate out. I’ll post my code. It doesn’t make any sense to me but if you have any suggestions that would be real great. • MySQL get point in time totals from related tables

  Hi everyone We have an order book and invoicing system and I've been tasked with trying to output monthly rolling totals from these tables. But I don't know really where to start with this. I think there's some SQL syntax that I don't even know about yet. I'm familiar with INNER/LEFT/JOINS and GROUP BY etc but grouping by date is confusing since I don't know how to limit the data to only the current date that's being grouped by at that point. I think this will involve joining the tables to themselves or possibly a sub-select. I always thought it best to avoid sub-selects apart from when absolutely necessary. Basically the system has 3 tables orders: order_id, currency, order_stamp orders_lines: order_line_id, invoice_id, order_id, price invoices: invoice_id, invoice_stamp order_stamp and invoice_stamp are UTC unix timestamps stored as integers, not MySQL timestamps. I'm trying to get a listing by year/month showing the total of current unbilled orders (sum of price), at that point in time. Current orders are ones where order_stamp is less than or equal to 00:00 on the 1st of the month. Unbilled orders are ones where invoice_stamp is null or invoice_stamp is greater than 00:00 on the 1st of the month. At that point in time there may not be a related invoice yet and invoice_id might be null. Anyone got any suggestions on what I should join to what and what I need to group by? Cheers, B
