Trouble installing ubuntu server on virtualbox (osx)

Hello all, I'm trying to install lucid lynx 10.04.2 server on a virtualbox on snow leopard. I have 2 server iso files freshly downloaded one i386 and one 64bit. When I try to start the virtual machine with either one set to be the cd drive I'm getting the same error: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ub. Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_OWNER_NOT_ROOT). Unknown error creating VM (VERR_SUPLIB_OWNER_NOT_ROOT). Couldn't find anything on it on google so I'm trying to see if anyone else has dealt with this issue. Thanks much in advance! edit: just downloaded the 32bit desktop edition to same avail edit2: ran Disk Utility' replair permissions then restarted. New error VERR_SUPLIB_WORLD_WRITABLE (instead of VERR_SUPLIB_OWNER_NOT_ROOT)

Newly registered domain name still doesn't show up after 72 hours.

Seven days ago I ordered a domain name with a local (Belgian) domain name agent. I have already webspace at a shared host in the US, so I filled in their nameservers on the form. I immediately payed with my credit card. Three days ago I received an e-mail from the domain name agent, saying that my domain name was registered with the external nameservers I provided, and that the site would be visible within 24 hours. However, 72 hours after that mail I still can't see my domain name. A whois search shows indeed that my domain is registered on my name,but a ping to the domain returns unknown host and a traceroute gives the similar Name or service not known. What can have gone wrong, and which (Linux) commands can I use to find out. Or should I just be patient and will the domain name eventually be propagated?

I have an issue in Centos 6.3. I installed Squid from compressed source archives(.tar.gz), I create an /etc/init.d/squid file, that run well because I view with the command ps -aux, that is running: root 2153 0.0 0.0 8920 1536 ? Ss 13:52 0:00 /opt/squid/squid-3.2/sbin/squid squid 2155 0.0 0.0 16368 9224 ? S 13:52 0:00 (squid-1) squid 2157 0.0 0.0 3628 972 ? S 13:52 0:00 (logfile-daemon) /var/log/squidserver/access.log This service boot at start because I configurate it with chkconfig chkconfig --list|grep squid squid 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off The only issue that i have is when i run the command service--status-all status:Unknown job:squid why is not reconized?, what i missed?

My sendmail sends spam and I can't identify which script sends it

I've noticed one of my server is sending mass spam. The messages are like the one below (sending from: [email protected]). I've deleted USER_ACCOUNT but I'd like to know how can I identify the script (probably a hacked PHP script) that sends the mass mail considering this server hosts numerous websites. PHP Session when using desktop app

In this question I asked how to POST to a php file form a vb.net app: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2615335/post-to-webpage-in-vb-net-win-forms-desktop-not-asp-net So now I've logged in the user user by posting their username and password to the php file, the php file then does security/checks they exist/etc and if both username and password are correct is stores the user ID in a session variable. Now if the vb.net app tries to download data off a page which needs the user to logged in, it checks this by doing: if (!isset($_SESSION['uid'])) { header("Location: index.php"); } However after having logged correctly in the app the session variable is not set. How does session work with a vb.net app like this? When the user logs in successfully should I download the user id and keep it in the vb.net app and then post it to each page that requires authentication?

How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works. Hello, When you issue the command ls in Linux you get this sort of thing: drwxr--r-- 1 fred editors 4096 drafts -rw-r--r-- 1 fred editors 30405 file1.php -r-xr-xr-x 1 fred fred 8460 file2.php I know that the rwxrwxrwx are the read, write and execute permissions for the current user. And I think I know that 'fred' is the user who owns the file. So I assume fred can write to file1 but no one else can. But what is the extra bit 'editors' and what is the difference between file1 and file2 with respect to one having an ownership of 'fred editors' and the other 'fred fred'? Also if a web user connects to one of the files, what is their user name and where is this decided? If the server decided that user connecting from the web was going to be fred, does this mean any web user could write to file1? Any information welcomed, I am resaerching this but just getting confused. Thanks

TextMate suddenly highlighting all text dark red...?

I'm using TextMate on Snow Leopard, don't know much about how it works. After I hit an unknown keyboard shortcut, it suddenly decided to highlight almost all text in my Python files dark red - making all my Python virtually unreadable! I must have accidentally pressed a shortcut - but I've no idea what I did or how to turn it off, and can't find any relevant help in the manual or form. Even just 'turn off all highlighting' would do. Anyone know how to turn this highlighting off? Bit desperate! UPDATE: Figured it out. There's a tiny, tiny dropdown list at the very bottom of every TextMate editing window where you can set the language, so TextMate can highlight invalid syntax - I'd accidentally clicked on it and set the language to something other than Python. Will leave the question up though in case others have the same problem.

I have several hosting accounts with companies, and plan to keep them. However, I would like to try my hand at creating my own home web-server, both for fun and for the learning experience. I would like to know the expenses involved, including: electricity costs (greater than light bulb?) internet costs (will I have to upgrade my internet? Or is 3-5Mbps upload speed fine for a web server with medium amount of traffic? Would I have to get a separate internet connection?) other unknown expenses Consider that I will configure the web server myself, so that is not an expense. Also consider that I already have a computer (year-old Dell laptop, 15R) to use to be dedicated as the web server.

Must be between 1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM and 12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM." Now, I've read this post, and the parameter as sent to the class constructor is defined as global::System.Nullable<global::System.DateTime> DoB So, it looks like it should accept a Nullable obj. When does the .NET FormAuthentication ticket get checked and how do I tap into this event?

Hello everyone - We are attempting to integrate an ASP.NET MVC site with our client's SSO system using PingFederate. I would like to use the built in FormsAuthentication framework to do this. The way I've gone about it so far is: Set up my Web.config so that my FormsAuthentication LoginURL goes to my site's "BeginAuthentication" action on a "Security" controller. From this action, I set up some session variables (what URL was being accessed, for example, since Ping won't send this info back to me), and then redirect to our client's login page on an external site (www.client.com/Login for example). From here, the authentication takes place and a cookie is generated on the same domain as the one that our application is running on which contains the unique identifier of the authenticated user, I've set it up so that once this happens, the Ping server will redirect to my "EndAuthentication" action on my "Security" controller. In this action, I call my membership class's "ValidateUser" method which takes this unique identifier from the cookie and loads in the user on our application that this ID refers to. I save that logged in user in our Session (Session["LoggedInAs"], for example) and expire the cookie that contains the id of the authenticated user that the SSO system provided for me. All of this works well. The issue I'm wondering about is what happens after our user has already authenticated and manually goes back to our client's login page (www.client.com/login) and logs in as another user. If they do that, then the flow from #2 above to number 3 happens as normal - but since there already exists an authenticated user on our site, it seems as though the FormsAuthentication system doesn't bother kicking off anything so I don't get a chance to check for the cookie I'm looking for to login as this new user. What I'd like to do is, somewhere in my Global.asax file (probably FormsAuthenticate_OnAuthenticate), check to see if the cookie that the SSO system sends to me exists, and if so, sign out of the application using FormsAuthentication.SignOut(). Another issue that seems to be related is that if I let my Session expire, the FormsAuthentication still seems to think I am authenticated and it lets me access a page even though no currently logged in user exists in my Session, so the page doesn't render correctly. Should I tap into the Session_End event and do FormsAuthentication.SignOut() here as well? Basically, I want to know when the authentication ticket created by System.Web.Security.FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(..) gets checked in the flow of a request so that I can determine whether I need to SignOut() and force revalidation or not. I can't seem to find a solution for this problem :s I have a many to many relationship like this: A user has_many organizations through affiliations and vice versa. I'm using declarative organizations and I only want a user to edit a particular organization if he is affiliated and the affiliationtype attribute of affiliation is a particular value. So affiliations has 3 columns , user_id, organization_id and affiliationtype_id I can do: o = Organization.find(:first) o.affiliatons[0].user and get the user now I wish to do this: has_permission_on [:organizations], :to => :edit do if_attribute (...) end That if_attribute should see if the current user is the organization.affiliation[?].user and if the organization.affiliation[?].affiliationtype_id = "3" I hope this is syntax issue ... I really need to get this working. Thanks in advance.

Employee Monitoring software

I am looking for an employee monitoring solution, that would allow us to remotely connect to our computers to see what is happening live, and preferably having some recording capabilities such as snapshots, URLs visited, etc ... I've looked around the web and most softwares I found were from unknown companies, had crappy websites, and made me feel like their either wanted me to install a virus on my computer, or to scam me. Most also seemed to have planted "reviews" online most likely written by themselves. Basically, anyone has experience with a trustworthy company to accomplish that? Thanks

Google Chrome Version 22.0.1229.79 on OS X 10.8.2 How can I get just a plain blank page as my home page, not just a list of "Most Visited" sites or "Apps" installed, please? Use an unsigned driver in Windows 7 x64

I'm trying to use the RBC9 SpaceNavigator TEST x64 build drivers for my SpaceNavigator 3d joystick so that it can work as a normal joystick in games like Quake. Unfortunately, I get the error "This version of windows requires all drivers to have a valid digital signature" and in the "Device status" in device manager, I get "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". Is there a way to work around this issue?

Slow internet using Arch Linux

after a week or so of using Arch Linux I cant access the internet - it takes around 5 mins to load google (most of the other websites just give me a timeout), pacman's downloading speed range between 5-2Kbs, and pinging google takes around 9Kms. I'm connected using wireless network (wifi card is Intel Ultimate 6300 and router is Edimax 6524n). Every other Windows machine that's connected to the network (and even the T410 running Windows) is fine, so the problem lies in Linux. So far, i checked the resolv.conf file (my router ip address is listed), and the hosts file (pretty much default), and I disabled the ipv6 module. None of that helped. PS: i'm using NetworkManager (but the problem still occurs when connecting using wicd) running on Gnome3. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! EDIT: something really strange happens whenever I ping google: i get an unknown host 'google.com', but the bit rate from the card jumps at the exact second I ping google (so far, the bit rate jumped to 54Mb/s from 1Mb/s over the course of 4 pings).

Hi, I have a loosely coupled web app (one part uses PHP, the other uses WGSI). The WSGI/python framework shares the authentication with the PHP app, meaning that generally, the user should Log in via the PHP interface Now the user can access any of the WSGI pages [this part works if the user has logged in] What I want to do though, is if a user tries to access a WSGI page while not logged in (maybe from a previous bookmark), I would like to redirect him to the login page, and after logging in redirect him back to the orignal URL. I'm not very experienced with server-side programming, so here are my questions. How should I redirect the user back to the PHP login page? What should the HTTP status code be? Do I need to set any extra header information? What is a good way/best practice method to pass the original URL to the login page, and then after logging have it redirect the user back. Thank you!

Ok, I know that property overloading is not supported in C# - most of the references explain it by citing the single-method-different-returntype problem. However, what about setters? I'd like to directly assign a value as either a string or object, but only return as a string. Like this: public string FieldIdList { get { return fieldIdList.ToString(); } set { fieldIdList = new FieldIdList(value); } } public FieldIdList FieldIdList { set { fieldIdList = value; } } private FieldIdList fieldIdList; Why wouldn't this be allowed? I've also seen that "properties" simply create getter/setter functions on compile. Would it be possible to create my own? Something like: public void set_FieldIdList(FieldIdList value) { fieldIdList = value; } That would do the same thing. Thoughts?

Tortoise SVN Error Validating Server Certificate

I just updated the certificate on one of my sites due to the old one expiring. The new certificate verifies fine in Internet Explorer 9, Chrome, and Firefox 4 - but when trying to browse/check out the repository with TortoiseSVN, I get the following error: Error validating server certificate for https://xxx.xxx.com:443: Unknown certificate issuer. Fingerprint: 96:b3:fa:19:bd:4a:ec:c2:bc:19:33:b8:25:2a:0a:47:28:41:07:d0 Distinguished name: (c) 2009 Entrust, Inc., www.entrust.net/rpa is incorporated by reference, Entrust, Inc., US Do you want to proceed? Accept permanently | Accept once | Reject Clicking Accept permanently will work, but this is less than ideal. This problem seems to be related to TortoiseSVN and not the certificate, which checks out fine at http://sslinstallcheck.entrust.net/SIC/jsp/MainWebAddress.jsp and http://www.digicert.com/help/. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
