• Does a version control database storage engine exist?

  I was just wondering if a storage engine type existed that allowed you to do version control on row level contents. For instance, if I have a simple table with ID, name, value, and ID is the PK, I could see that row 354 started as (354, "zak", "test")v1 then was updated to be (354, "zak", "this is version 2 of the value")v2 , and could see a change history on the row with something like select history (value) where ID = 354. It's kind of an esoteric thing, but it would beat having to keep writing these separate history tables and functions every time a change is made...

• Rails 3 shows 404 error instead of index.html (nginx + unicorn)

  I have an index.html in public/ that should be loading by default but instead I get a 404 error when I try to access http://example.com/ The page you were looking for doesn't exist. You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved. This has something to do with nginx and unicorn which I am using to power Rails 3 When take unicorn out of the nginx configuration file, the problem goes away and index.html loads just fine.   Hello, I am creating a random ID using the below code: from random import * import string # The characters to make up the random password chars = string.ascii_letters + string.digits def random_password(): return "".join(choice(chars) for x in range(32)) This will output something like: 60ff612332b741508bc4432e34ec1d3e I would like the format to be in this format: 60ff6123-32b7-4150-8bc4-432e34ec1d3e I was looking at the .split() method but can't see how to do this with a random id, also the hyphen's must be at these places so splitting them by a certain amount of digits is out. I'm asking is there a way to split these random id's by 8 number's then 4 etc. Thanks

• Adding childs to list of parents with jquery /mvc2

  Hi, I have a table of products on my page, each product has zero or more colors, the colors are shown as a list beneath the product. After the colors I have a button to add a color. The button will do an ajax call with the parent product id to a controller which will return a JSON object with color information. My problem is where to store the product id in the DOM, should I put it in a hidden field and use jquery in the click event of the "add color" to get to it? What is the best way to do this? TIA, John EDIT: The page is initially rendered on the server so I don't want to use jquery to add the id's to the page.

Basically I have <ol><li> <span class="main"> <span class="test1"></span> <span class="test2"></span> <span class="test3"> <span id="test4"></span> <span id="special" class="special"> <span class="test4">TEXT</span> </span> </span> </li></ol> Basically, in IE when I try and make the id="special" have rounded corners - i get a distorted view. I think its something related to problems with referencing li elements using jQuery('#special').corner('5px'); Could anyone help :) ?

  Hey, I've tried to update jQuery to its latest version on a system I'm working and I'm having this issue: I have a file that posts data to a .php: $.post( 'ajax_Save.php', { id: [$('#service_id').val()], number: [$('#number').val()] }, function(data){ ... }); On ajax_Save.php var_dump($_POST) gives: array(26) { ["id"]=> array(1) { [0]=> string(5) "18204" } ["number"]=> array(1) { [0]=> string(5) "18250" }... With jQuery version 1.2.2 the result is: array(26) { ["id"]=> string(5) "18204" ["order_number"]=> string(5) "18250" Which is OK. Any clues? Thx

I now need to extend that so that if a user answers Yes to a question they must enter something in the Details field, otherwise the Details field can be left blank.   I have the folliwng JSON request code on an ASP.NET MVC web application: var userID = 'id=' + $('#namesList').val(); $.getJSON('/Person/GetPerson/', userID, function(data) { $('#collar').text(data.collarNumber); $('#name').text(data.Name); $('#email').text(data.EmailAddress); }); This creates a request such as: http://localhost:48610/Person/GetPerson/?id=6. Why is there a question mark in there? I get the server error The parameters dictionary contains a null entry for parameter 'id' of non-nullable type 'System.Int32'.... If I make the request manually without the question mark it works fine.

There is a quantity field(nonmodel) where the user can enter the quantity While adding a new product if the user enters: type: soda quantity: 3 Then there 3 records should be created in product model with type= soda like the following. id type 2 soda 3 soda 4 soda If user enters location: aisle4 quantity: 2 Then id location 5 ailse4 6 ailse4 Can you tell me how to pass the nonmodel field 'quantity' to the rails(model or controller) and how use it to add the products in groups as mentioned above? or should I create a column called quantity in my product table? Will the history be updated too for all these new records with after_create filter which I already have ? Is there any good tutorial or book which shows how to pass such nonmodel html/javascript fields from view to rails and then back to the view? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Checking if MySQL Database data does not exist

  I have my songs set-up in my MySQL database. Each song is is either assigned multiple locations or has no locations at all. Only the songs that either have no locations assigned in the database or have the location assigned to the ones specified below should be pulled from the database. Hopefully when you understand my query below it will make sense SELECT s.* FROM roster_songs AS s LEFT JOIN roster_songs_locations AS sl ON sl.song_id = s.id WHERE EXISTS ( SELECT sl2.* FROM roster_songs_locations AS sl2 WHERE s.id != sl2.song_id ) OR ( sl.location_id = '88fb5f94-aaa6-102c-a4fa-1f05bca0eec6' OR sl.location_id = '930555b0-a251-102c-a245-1559817ce81a' ) GROUP BY s.id The query almost works except it pulls out of the database songs that are assigned to sl.location_id's that aren't specified in the above query. I think it has something to do with my EXISTS code picking them up... Any ideas how I can get this to work?

In short, if the route definition is the first in the route table, then the parameter takes its default value. But the others below don't.
