  • Access Virtual PC Website from Host Browser

    I have Virtual PC 2007 running Windows XP. I can access a website setup on the Virtual machine from a browser in the Virtual machine. How do I setup the virtual machine so I can access the website from a browser on the host machine. The host machine is also running WinXP. Both host and virtual machine can ping each other via IP and computer name. TIA rams

  • How do I keep a server connected as a volume after sleep?

    This would be in OS X 10.6... I know I can connect a server share as a volume and do so via a script so every time I boot up it gets mapped. How can I make sure that same share is mapped after my computer comes out of sleep mode? It seems like the connection gets dropped. Can the same process map the drive for me when I boot up?

  • What kind of scaling method is it, when you add new software to a single server to handle more users? [on hold]

    I have read about scaling (in terms of terminology and methods). This got me confused about the following: On a single computer, running a web server (say apache), if the system administrator adds a front, caching, reverse-proxy such as Varnish, which in that scenario increase the amount of requests this server is able to handle. My question: Setting up such cache increases the capacity of the server to handle work, hence scales it, but without increasing neither the amount of nodes or the node's capacity. What is the name for this type of scaling?

  • Wampserver not working in Windows 8

    I recently upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 successfully. Other application are working perfectly except wampserver. When I double click on the desk top icon, it shows red on the tray bar and then the color changes but when I click Start All Services, nothing happens. Localhost does not open in webbrowser. Skype is not running on my computer, i don't know if there is other application using the same port in Win8. Please help!

  • Mouse curser gets "weird" when I move it between different monitors

    I'm using a Windows 7 64-bit machine with two monitors side by side. Sometimes when I have a fullsreen application running on my main monitor and I am moving the mouse curser between the two monitors, the curser gets corrupted. You cannot see that it is a curser anymore. To fix it I have to restart the computer. Has anyone heard about this problem before? How do I fix it without rebooting?

  • No external network on ubuntu 9.10, though dns works..

    Hi, I have a weird problem I cant solve. I have several computers, two with xubuntu 9.10 One of them, acting as a media server, has stopped to work when it comes to external network.. I can do for example: ping google.com Which gives me an ip adress back, like: name@Media:/etc$ ping google.com PING google.com (66.102.9.147) 56(84) bytes of data. That tells me it reaches the dns?, but I get no response at all... If I ping a local computer all works fine. I can also reach the computer via ssh without any problems. I have always used network manager, but now I uninstalled it and made the settings manually like this: /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.52 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 Still no luck. I have no specific settings for this one in my router, and all the other computers, including my win laptop works fine.     I have a feeling this is quite easy to do but every solution found on google has to do with adding a script to be run whenever someone logs into the machine. What I am looking for is a way to run a script when only I log into the machine. I ssh into a shared computer and need to have it load a couple modules for me and I imagined the easiest way to do this would to just run a script on login. Is there a simple way?

  • Tool to test HDD for health?

    I've had my HDD replaced, and now my computer is freezing every 1 to 5 minutes for 5 to 10 seconds. Actually, only active applications freeze (but it can be ANY application), usually when I click something, but sometimes by themselves. How can I check if this is HDD issue or software issue? I don't want to send my laptop for second HDD replacement right away, since the last service took 40 days, so I am looking for a tool that could confirm that this is a HDD issue.

  • Server access through switch port

    I am using wireshark to monitor traffic on a server - Problem is, the computer I am using is only a terminal wired through the switch. Main line comes into the server which is relayed to multi-port switch (roughly 50 connections). Right now I get a lot of server communication between my it and my terminal but shows no information for other terminals. Can wireshark be configured to monitor ALL traffic in this environment?

  • How to troubleshoot port forwarding on Windows 7 (64 Bit) with ICS enabled?

    I want to forward some ports (1666 for perforce, 8081 for Hudson) on my Internet Gateway machine. This machine is running Windows 7 (64 Bit, legal, user-account) and connected to the Internet via cable modem (it's not a router). The Windows machine is sharing its Internet Connection via ICS and that works fine on all connected computers. I can access the services via the gateway's public IP (95.x.x.x) on the given ports if they are running on the gateway machine itself. I've added the ports and destination IP address (192.168.0.18) in the Internet network adapter's Advanced Settings dialog (Sharing tab). That's the same dialog where you have a list of preconfigured services like HTTP, FTP and other incoming services. When I do that I can't connect to the services anymore. For some reason port forwarding isn't working. I have uninstalled Bitdefender because I wanted to check if the Firewall interferes. I've also disabled the Windows Firewall and Defender to no avail. I tried a freeware tool that helps to setup port forwarding but that didn't work either. The target machine is a Mac OS X computer whose Firewall is disabled. The IP is static. I can successfully connect to the services using the local IP address (192.168.0.18) from two different machines, including the gateway computer. So internally and externally it seems to me that the ports are open and not blocked, and the issue is with port forwarding itself. From what I understand it should be enough to add an entry to the Advanced Settings dialog to enable port forwarding when there are no firewalls interfering. How can I troubleshoot why port forwarding isn't working for me? What steps should I follow to alleviate the issue? PS: I gladly accept command line solutions. Other things I've tried: adding an Inbound Rule to Windows Firewall for the 1666, 8081 ports trying with Windows Firewall enabled and disabled disabling/enabling the network adapter double-checked that the IP addresses are correct mapping a different incoming port to the service's actual port followed or checked the misc tips in this article What I haven't dared trying yet (let me know if it's worth a shot): disable/enable ICS remove all network adapters (via Control Panel), then re-install and re-configure them

    I'm trying to install Windows 8 (CP) on a 2nd SSD that I have (the 1st SSD has Windows 7). I boot into the installation from a usb stick, select the SSD, and launch the installation. When the computer goes to reboot during the install process, it keeps going back into the usb stick or my Windows 7 installation. It never recognizes the installation on the 2nd SSD. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

    If I get the fully qualified computer name on a Windows server (2K3 or 2K8) using the GetComputerNameEx() API call, can I rely on that name to be unique on that particular domain? That is, can I assume that only a single active physical or virtual machine will have that fully qualified name at a given time? As a second question: is it guaranteed that all Windows machines will have such a fully-qualified name? Thanks for any help.
