• How to set up Mod_WSGI for Python on Ubuntu

  Hi, I am trying to setup MOD_WSGI on my Ubuntu box. I have found steps that said I needed to do the following steps I found at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=833766 sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-wsgi sudo a2enmod mod-wsgi sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart sudo gedit /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and update the Directory <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews ExecCGI AddHandler cgi-script .cgi AddHandler wsgi-script .wsgi AllowOverride None Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart Created test.wsgi with def application(environ, start_response): status = '200 OK' output = 'Hello World!' response_headers = [('Content-type', 'text/plain'), ('Content-Length', str(len(output)))] start_response(status, response_headers) return [output] Step 2 fails because it says it can't find mod-wsgi even though the apt-get found it. If I carry on with the steps the python app just shows as plain text in a browser. Any ideas what I have done wrong? • BIOS upgrade lowers CPU temperature

  Setup I've got a system with an Asus P8Z68-V PRO motherboard and an Intel Core i7-2600K CPU running at stock speed (no overlocking) which I cool with a Noctua NH-U12P. On the heatsink I've got the two included fans connected via the included Low-Noise Adapters (L.N.A.) 1100 RPM, 16.9 dB(A). In the BIOS settings I've set the CPU and chassis fan profile to silent. Issue Yesterday I upgraded from BIOS version 0501 to 0606. After the upgrade I checked the temperatures in the BIOS monitor and was surprised to see that the CPU temperature was slightly ~30°C. Before the upgrade the CPU temperature was ~50°C with the same BIOS settings (see the following heading for details on temperatures). How can this be? It seems a bit odd that a BIOS upgrade can lower the CPU temperature by 20°C and it also seems odd that the CPU temperature is lower than the chassis temperature. Temperatures When I've checked temperatures the room temperature has been ~23°C. I haven't changed the placement of the computer nor the hardware or cooling setup between BIOS versions. BIOS version 0501 BIOS monitor: CPU: ~50°C Chassis: ~33°C I haven't got any temperature measures from lm-sensors or the like for version 0501 because I only discovered the issue after upgrading to version 0606 and the BIOS updater utility won't let me downgrade to version 0501 (it says "outdated image" when I try to load version 0501). BIOS version 0606 BIOS monitor: CPU: ~30°C Chassis: ~33°C lm-sensors in Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop 64-bit (sudo sensors after an uptime of 4 h 52 min and a load average of 0.22, 0.18, 0.15): coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +32.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +98.0°C) coretemp-isa-0001 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 1: +35.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +98.0°C) coretemp-isa-0002 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 2: +29.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +98.0°C) coretemp-isa-0003 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 3: +36.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +98.0°C) The BIOS monitor temperatures was checked directly after the lm-sensors temperatures was checked. BIOS version 0706, 0801, 1101 and 3203 I get the same kind of temperatures both in the BIOS monitor and with lm-sensors in BIOS version 0706, 0801, 1101 and 3203 as in 0606. Information from Asus The 0606 changelog mentions nothing explicitly about CPU temperature (but item 3., as indicated by sidran32, might affect temperatures): P8Z68-V PRO 0606 BIOS with IRST 10.6.0.1002 Enable the support of Intel Rapid Storage Technology version 10.6.0.1002 Release Improve DRAM compatibility Improve System stability Improve compatibility with some Raid card model Increase IGD share memory size to 512MB However the following FAQ might give a hint: FAQs I find that the CPU temperature reading in BIOS is about 10~20 degrees centigrade hotter than the reading in OS. Is it normal? Page Tools Solution That is normal as BIOS does not send idle command to the CPU, making most of the power saving features useless. You should be getting similar reading if you disable EIST/C1E/CPU C3 Report/CPU C6 Report in BIOS.

• How do I fix VMware “Unidentified Networks” in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1?

  I have recently installed VMware Workstation 7 onto Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1 and both VMnet1 and VMnet8 appeared as "Unidentified Networks". I have tried editing HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, a tip provided by Mathews (Jul 23, 2009) but both virtual NICs still appeared as "Unidentified Networks". I will need both NICs to be listed as "Work" or "Private" and with Internet Access. What other solutions/workarounds? Thanks!

Is there any flag I can use on ipconfig to hide all virtual interfaces? Or is there some other way around this problem? Since they always say "Media disconnected" I suppose disabling could be an option, but if possible I'd rather not turn any functionality off. I just want to control what output I get from ipconfig. Also, I know these are related to IPv6 stuff. However, most of what I find on google merely states what these are, and that they're harmless - nothing about hiding/removing them.

• No TV-Out on Windows 7 with Nvidia Geforce 9400GT

  I have Windows 7 x64 and a Nvidia Geforce 9400GT video card. I have connected my TV (SANSUI LCT40SD SAKURA) to my computer/video card with S-Video. When I try to set up multiple displays in Nvidia Control Panel, I can't find the TV. I have only my normal screen "LG W1934" which is enabled. How can I fix it? Thank you.

• AIX: iscsi volumes disappear after reboot

  We have an IBM P505 AIX box, with two internal disks and a defined iSCSI volume. The iSCSI volume is defined in it's own volume group, and is connected to an IBM iSCSI DS3300 disk array via the secondary onboard ethernet port (ie, we're not using a dedicated HBA, we're using the second onboard ethernet port for iSCSI exclusively.) When we reboot the AIX box, the iSCSI volume doesn't get mounted (which is fine; I've figured out that it fails to mount because AIX tries mounting it's volumes before starting the networking stack.) The problem is, after the server has booted it fails to redetect the iSCSI target as a physical disk. This means the volume group (iscsivg) can't go online. if I run cfgmgr -v to redetect the iscsi volume it successfully detects the iscsi target volume and creates a physical volume reference, but allocates it a different volume ID to what was defined before. eg - rootvg contains hdisk 0 and 1 iscsivg was originally defined with hdisk2 as the physical iSCSI volume. after reboot and running cfgmgr -v, AIX detects physical volumes hdisk0, hdisk11 and hdisk3. As there's no hdisk2, I can't varyon the iscsivg volume group. I can't seem any existing hdisk2 definition in the ODM. I can't easily add or change the definition of the physcial disk in the iscsivg volume group as it won't "varyon". Exporting the volume group deletes it completely, recreating the volume group by "importing" it from the reallocated disk makes it available again, but surely there's a better way? Can I force a specific hdisk drive designation for an iscsi target? How do you bring online iSCSI volumes after a reboot? I assume this "just works" with a dedicated HBA instead of a generic ethernet adapter? By the way, the iSCSI volume works fine once it's mounted; we only have problems getting it working - and only with AIX. The iSCSI array works fine with our Linux and Windows servers; ie the volumes get detected and remounted after boot time without any problems, using generic ethernet adapters.   i've just solved the blue screen problem after "preparing your desktop" on windows 2008 server with your help (http://serverfault.com/questions/410570/server-2008-blue-screen-after-login-no-desktop) but unfortuneletly for me i did many things before that through gpedit.msc specifically to restrict user access to windows programs, control panel, regedit, msconfig ... but when i finally can log on even with administrator i cant open anything at all... and the message at title always came up.. please help me i cant open anything, regedit, mmc, any administrative tools ....

  Hi my problem is this: I have a 3 pc (192.168.1.2,..3,..4) and a windows 2008 server (192.168.1.100) router is 192.168.1.1. I just want that the 3 pc set like gateway 192.168.1.100, are filter by squid proxy loaded in win2008 so in win2008 I 've set in control panel the proxy 192.168.1.100:3128 and in win2008 browser work, the connection is filtered by proxy, but in 3 pc not works, so maybe I should route all incoming request into squid, but I dunno how ... thanks

I tried unplugging the battery, uninstalling the microsoft ACPI compliant Control Method, updating bios,windows. All to no avail. at first I tought it was related to windows 7 because it's a brand new laptop. But I also tested with a knoppix live cd, and there the output of acpi -V is this Battery 0: Unknown, 0% What else can I test to figure out what's going on.

• Installing drivers for switchable graphics

  I recently bought a laptop that came with Windows 7 64-bit installed. I have some older (16-bit and 32-bit) software that doesn't work with 64-bit Windows, but works just fine with 32-bit. Since I also wanted to get rid of all of the pre-installed spam, I decided to wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Windows 7 32-bit. I can't get the graphics cards working. This laptop uses switchable graphics, an Intel card and a Radeon card. I first tried installing this driver from Intel, which works for the Intel card. Of course, the Radeon card doesn't work with this driver and I need it for some of the newer games I have. I also tried this driver. Windows's device manager will recognize the Radeon card, but it will still use the Intel card. Also, even though that package says it contains the Intel driver, the Intel card still isn't properly recognized by Windows (leaving me with a nasty 800x600 resolution). On top of that, the Catalyst Control Center won't open (saying "The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter") I tried installing HP's driver then installing Intel's driver on top of it. Device manager will then recognize both graphics cards properly. However, the laptop still uses the Intel card. The CCC still won't start (saying the same thing as before) and I can't find any of 'switching' graphics cards. Before formatting, I could right-click the desktop and click "Configure Switchable Graphics" This option hasn't been in the context menu regardless of what driver(s) I've installed. After some research, I found out that this menu entry runs the command "cli.exe Start PowerXpressHybrid" I've tried manually running this command, but I get the same unsupported message from CCC. So, does anyone know how I can get this working? I would like to be able to switch between the Intel and Radeon. But, if there's some way to disable the Intel and use only the Radeon, that would be fine I dual-boot with Linux (framebuffer uses the Intel, haven't even tried getting X set up yet) Here's the output of lspci # lspci -v | grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc NI Seymour [AMD Radeon HD 6470M] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) The laptop is a HP Pavilion g6t-1d00.
