• Do I need a ssl certificate if just pointing my domain to Cloudfront?

  I have a website running on a domain (e.g site.com). I have an additional domain(e.g sitecdn.com) which basically points to Amazon Cloudfront for delivery. Amazon Cloudfront in turn basically fetches the data from the main domain (site.com). I use this setup primarily to have multiple subdomains of my sitecdn.com to point to assets via the cdn. The main website has a ssl certificate, and I intend to put all assets served from the cdn as https links only. Something like <img src="https://img.sitecdn.com/image.jpg" /> I'm a little confused whether I need a ssl for my cdn domain. In cloudfront I can set the setting to allow both https and http traffic. Do I need a ssl certificate for this ? If yes, then where do I install the ssl certificate, since I don't have a server for sitecdn.com.

• Driver problems with rerunning WIM capture

  How do I handle driver problems associated with creating a new WIM file using a previously created image as a base? I am using a custom MDT image which installs Windows 7, Office 2010, etc which was created from a previously deployed base image of Windows 7 + SP 1 + updates. When the driver injection is enabled I receive a group of messages (collected from different logs, screens, etc). If I turn the preinstall driver injection off things work as expected. If I leave it on I receive the following messages. windows cannot install required files 0x80004005 8004004 non zero return code ltiapply rc=31 Unhandled error returned by LTIApply: a device attached to the system is not functioning. (-2147024865 0x8007001F)

• Help with MySQL Query using CASE statement

  I am trying to group a number of customers together based on their "Head Office" or "Parent" location. THis works ok except for a flaw which I didn't forsee when I was developing my system... For customers that did not have a "Parent" (standalone business) I defaulted the parent_id to 0. Therefore, my data would look like this: id parent_id customer 1 0 CustName#1 2 4 CustName#2 - Melbourne 3 4 CustName#2 - Sydney 4 0 CustName#2 (Head Office) What I want to do is Group my results together so that I have one row for CustName#1 and one row for CustName#2 BUT my problem is that there is no parent record for parent_id=0 and these rows are being excluded when using an inner join. I've tried using a case statement but that is not working either (parents are still being ignored) Any help would be greatly appreciated. • Installing Sphinx on App Engine - possible?

  Following up on my last year's question on documentation, I now want to get started and try out Python-based Sphinx for putting together the developer documentation for a PHP CMS I've been working on. Instead of setting up Python locally on my workstation, I would like to run it on a publicly accessible web server from the start. All the web hosting packages I have access to run on the LAMP stack, and I'm reluctant to buy Python-based hosting. I am very interested in the Google App Engine, the free quotas they provide will do for me a hundred times over, and even if not, their pricing looks very reasonable. Now I have zero knowledge of Python - getting Sphinx to work would be my first contact with it - and very little time. As far as I understand, the platform and python libraries the App Engine provides are very compatible to a standard Python library but not identical. So my question is: Can Sphinx run on App Engine at all? Is installing Sphinx on the App Engine as straightforward as if I would install it on top of a normal Python installation? Or will the App Engine's environment require tweaking of the source code that I can't perform in reasonable time with my current level of Python? Should I be installing Sphinx on a local server and a "normal" Python stack instead first? Does anybody know any helpful How-to's, tutorials or other resources for this?

  I have an array in this format: Array ( [0] => Array ( [28th February, 2009] => 'bla' ) [1] => Array ( [19th March, 2009] => 'bla' ) [2] => Array ( [5th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [3] => Array ( [19th April, 2009] => 'bla' ) [4] => Array ( [2nd May, 2009] => 'bla' ) ) I want to sort them out in the ascending order of the dates (based on the month, day, and year). What's the best way to do that? Originally the emails are being fetched in the MySQL date format, so its possible for me to get the array in this state: Array [ ['2008-02-28']='some text', ['2008-03-06']='some text' ] Perhaps when its in this format, I can loop through them, remove all the '-' (hyphen) marks so they are left as integars, sort them using array_sort() and loop through them yet again to sort them? Would prefer if there was another way as I'd be doing 3 loops with this per user. Thanks. • Qt/MFC Migration Framework tool: properly exiting DLL?

  I'm using the Qt/MFC Migration Framework tool following this example: http://doc.qt.nokia.com/solutions/4/qtwinmigrate/winmigrate-qt-dll-example.html The dll I build is loaded by a 3rd party MFC-based application. The 3rd party app basically calls one of my exported DLL functions to startup my plugin and another function to shutdown my application. Currently I'm doing nothing in my shutdown function. When I load my DLL in the 3rd party app the startup function is called and my DLL starts successfully and I can see my message box. However if I shutdown my plugin and then try to start it again I get the following error: Debug Error! Program: <my 3rd party app> Module: 4.7.1 File: global\qglobal.cpp Line: 2262 ASSERT failure in QWidget: "Widgets must be created in the GUI thread.", file kernel\qwidget.cpp line 1233 (Press Retry to debug the application) Abort Retry Ignore This makes me think I'm not doing something to properly shutdown my plugin. What do I need to do to shut it down properly? UPDATE: http://doc.qt.nokia.com/solutions/4/qtwinmigrate/winmigrate-walkthrough.html says: The DLL also has to make sure that it can be loaded together with other Qt based DLLs in the same process (in which case a QApplication object will probably exist already), and that the DLL that creates the QApplication object remains loaded in memory to avoid other DLLs using memory that is no longer available to the process. So I wonder if there is some problem where I need to somehow keep the original DLL loaded no matter what?

• Running an existing LINQ query against a dynamic object (DataTable like)

  Hello, I am working on a generic OData provider to go against a custom data provider that we have here. Thsi is fully dynamic in that I query the data provider for the table it knows. I have a basic storage structure in place so far based on the OData sample code. My problem is: OData supports queries and expects me to hand in an IQueryable implementation. On the lowe rside, I dont have any query support. Not a joke - the provider returns tables and the WHERE clause is not supported. Performance is not an issue here - the tables are small. It is ok to sort them in the OData provider. My main problem is this. I submit a SQL statement to get out the data of a table. The result is some sort of ADO.NET data reader here. I need to expose an IQueryable implementation for this data to potentially allow later filtering. Any ide ahow to best touch that? .NET 3.5 only (no 4.0 planned for some time). I was seriously thinking of creating dynamic DTO classes for every table (emitting bytecode) so I can use standard LINQ. Right now I am using a dictionary per entry (not too efficient) but I see no real way to filter / sort based on them.

• suggestions for declarative GUI programming in Java

  I wonder if there are any suggestions for declarative GUI programming in Java. (I abhor visual-based GUI creator/editor software, but am getting a little tired of manually instantiating JPanels and Boxes and JLabels and JLists etc.) That's my overall question, but I have two specific questions for approaches I'm thinking of taking: JavaFX: is there an example somewhere of a realistic GUI display (e.g. not circles and rectangles, but listboxes and buttons and labels and the like) in JavaFX, which can interface with a Java sourcefile that accesses and updates various elements? Plain Old Swing with something to parse XUL-ish XML: has anyone invented a declarative syntax (like XUL) for XML for use with Java Swing? I suppose it wouldn't be hard to do, to create some code based on STaX which reads an XML file, instantiates a hierarchy of Swing elements, and makes the hierarchy accessible through some kind of object model. But I'd rather use something that's well-known and documented and tested than to try to invent such a thing myself. JGoodies Forms -- not exactly declarative, but kinda close & I've had good luck with JGoodies Binding. But their syntax for Form Layout seems kinda cryptic. edit: lots of great answers here! (& I added #3 above) I'd be especially grateful for hearing any experiences any of you have had with using one of these frameworks for real-world applications. p.s. I did try a few google searches ("java gui declarative"), just didn't quite know what to look for.

• Ignore case in Python strings

  What is the easiest way to compare strings in Python, ignoring case? Of course one can do (str1.lower() <= str2.lower()), etc., but this created two additional temporary strings (with the obvious alloc/g-c overheads). I guess I'm looking for an equivalent to C's stricmp(). [Some more context requested, so I'll demonstrate with a trivial example:] Suppose you want to sort a looong list of strings. You simply do theList.sort(). This is O(n * log(n)) string comparisons and no memory management (since all strings and list elements are some sort of smart pointers). You are happy. Now, you want to do the same, but ignore the case (let's simplify and say all strings are ascii, so locale issues can be ignored). You can do theList.sort(key=lambda s: s.lower()), but then you cause two new allocations per comparison, plus burden the garbage-collector with the duplicated (lowered) strings. Each such memory-management noise is orders-of-magnitude slower than simple string comparison. Now, with an in-place stricmp()-like function, you do: theList.sort(cmp=stricmp) and it is as fast and as memory-friendly as theList.sort(). You are happy again. The problem is any Python-based case-insensitive comparison involves implicit string duplications, so I was expecting to find a C-based comparisons (maybe in module string). Could not find anything like that, hence the question here. (Hope this clarifies the question).

  I am having difficulties populating a checkedlistbox (CLB) based on the selection(s) made in another. It should also be noted that I have a "Select All" checkbox at the top that checks/unchecks all of the items in the first CLB. The following code partially works until the "Select All" checkbox is clicked at which point one of two things happens: If other values have been selected before "Select All" is checked, the second CLB is filled with the correct number of corresponding values BUT only those of the most recently selected item of the first CLB instead of all of corresponding values of all of the items that were not already selected. When "Select All" is unchecked, the most recently incorrect values are removed, everything in CLB 1 is unchecked but the values in CLB 2 that were selected before "Select All" was checked remain. • Personal wiki on usb / the cloud?

  I'm looking for a personal wiki that can be installed on an usb stick and (more importantly) somewhere on the cloud (dropbox). I've looked at the Wiki Matrix, but I really don't care that much about any of the options, so I end up with a choice between ~50 wikis at the end. Tried out TiddlyWiki but there are some things that really annoy me like the fact that all pages get opened on the same page. It really looks like it'd turn into a giant mess pretty quickly. I'd like to have something that's pretty close in terms of appearance and usability to wikipedia. Hierarchical categories for organization would be really nice. And accessible storage (in case I ever want to convert it to something else).

• How can I modify a scalar reference passed to a subroutine reference

  I have a function to convert documents into different formats, which then calls another function based on the type document. It's pretty straight forward for everything aside from HTML documents which require a bit of cleaning up, and that cleaning up is different based on where it's come from.   I have the following problem. I want to make multiple Highcharts webcharts appear automatically based on the data from the database. But what I want is that there has to be a webchart per user. So instead of a single webchart with all the users in it, I want multiple charts next to each other based on the data from the database. So if there is a new user starting this month, and the new user is saved in the database, the page automatically displays the new user with the related web chart. • Anyone had any issues getting a disk to start on a Walrus storage sytem?

  Hi folks, I'm trying to get a Eucalyptus system up and running and have managed to get the cloud controller and node controller running fine, with an instance running in the cloud system, but without any persistent storage. When I try and create a volume I get euca-create-volume -s 10 -z cluster1 VOLUME vol-5F5D0659 10 creating 2010-05-31T09:10:11.408Z but when I try and see the volume I get euca-describe-volumes VOLUME vol-5F5D0659 10 cluster1 failed 2010-05-31T09:10:11.408Z VOLUME vol-5FE9065E 10 cluster1 failed 2010-05-31T09:02:56.721Z I've dug all over the place, but can't seem to turn up a reason the creation would fail or where to start looking to see what the issue might be. Anyone have any ideas where to even start looking for the answer to this? Ta Peter.

• Are there videocamera which geotag individual frames?

  I'm looking for a way to record live video with the specific requirement of having each frame georeferenced with GPS. Right now I'm using a normal video camera with a PDA+GPS that records the position, but it's difficult to sync both of these plus sometimes I've forgotten to turn the PDA+GPS or it has failed for some reason and all my video has been useless. Using google I found that about two years ago a company named Seero produced such video cameras and software, but apparently the domain doesn't exist any more and I only find references of other pages mentioning it. Does somebody know of any other product? I need to record this video in HD and have some way to export to Google Maps or other GIS software the positions of the frames in a way that I can click on the map and see what was being recorded in the video at that point. The precission of the GPS tracking is good enough as one position per second, intermediate frames of the video stream can be interpolated.

• Broadcom bluetooth driver for Windows 7 on MacBook Pro

  I have installed Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using BootCamp. Usually when turning my Bluetooth headset on and trying to pair it with Mac for the first time, Windows would fail to install drivers and open solution in Action Center, which suggests to download the driver from the Broadcom webpage. This worked before and drivers would install and work. However now, when I start driver installer, it would get stuck at "Detecting Bluetooth Device" stage. Below the steps there is also a warning with text, which says "Please plug in or turn ob your Bluetooth device". This is how the installer looks like when it's stuck: I have tried turning my headset on/off, bringing it into pairing mode, installing/uninstalling device to/from the Bluetooth Devices. None of these worked. Any ideas?

  Is there any software 'easier to use' than Skype - ie to get a video conversation going you have to turn on the computer, make sure the speakers are turned on, make sure the web cam is connected, make sure you click answer with Video... I would like to buy a 'single red button' which does all of the above. - Any recommendations? Update @Eric Koslow comment My original question title was "Is there any software/hardware 'easier to use' than Skype?" So the answer is not necessarily a computer running a program, although it might be. I realise Skype makes a good attempt at helping to ensure speakers and web cam are working and helps you to sort them out if they are not, and for a person who isnt computer phobic this should be enough. However I am interested if there is anything available that is 'easier' than this - ie I'm looking for my 'single' red button. ie the mobile phone with video call maybe the closest answer so far, but I would prefer something as 'free' as Skype is.

  Iam trying to build an Facebook Application based on PHP. The Application is running under php on my own Webhost inside an Canvas as iFrame. I have included the newest Client Library for PHP from Facebook: facebook-php-sdk-94fcb13 To Authorize the user inside my application iam trying to use Facebook Connect, like the example shipped with the Client. Everything works fine the 1st Login, but when i hit the F5 Key to reload the page, the session is lost and i have to login again. When i call my application outside of the Facebook Canvas everything is fine. Iam not sure, but i think my Browser (Chrome/FireFox - Ubuntu) is not allowing to store an cookie inside an iFrame. Does someone knows an solution for this Problem? • Possible to make mysql server both master and slave?

  I am getting ready to move a database from one server to another. In order to reduce downtime for the client, I am wondering if it would be possible for me to turn on replication and give it time to replicate fully, then just point the customer to the new server. The issue I have is that the server I'm moving to has existing, active databases for other customers. And, the server I'm moving from has other active customers who will not be moving at this time. Is this even possible? If so, how do I configure the server I am moving from and the one I am moving to?

• Extracting the layer transparency into an editable layer mask in Photoshop

  Is there any simple way to extract the "baked in" transparency in a layer and turn it into a layer mask in Photoshop? To take a simple example: Let's say that I paint a few strokes with a semi-transparent brush, or paste in a .png-file with an alpha channel. The rgb color values and the alpha value for each pixel are now all contained in the layer-image itself. I would like to be able to edit the alpha values as a layer mask, so that the layer image is solid and contains only the RGB values for each pixel. Is this possible, and in that case how? Thanks. EDIT: To clarify - I'm not really after the transparency values in themselves, but in the separation of rgb values and alpha values. That means that the layer must become a solid, opaque image with a mask.

• 'Forward-Compatible' Program Design

  The majority of my questions I've asked here so far on StackOverflow have been how to implement individual concepts and techniques towards developing a software-based NES clone via the XNA environment. The small samples that I've thrown together on my PC work relatively great and everything. Except I hit a brick wall. How do I merge all of these samples together. Having proof-of-concept is amazing, except when you need it to go beyond just that. I now have samples strewn about that I'm trying to merge, some of them incomplete. And now I'm stuck with the chicken-and-the-egg situation of where I would like to incorporate these samples together, to make sure they work, but I cannot without test data. And I don't have tools to create test data, because they'd need to be based off of the individual pieces that need to be put together. In my mind, I'm having nightmares with circular reference. For my sample data, I am hoping to save it in XML and write a specification - and then make sample data by hand - but I'm too paranoid of manually creating an XML file full of incorrect data and blaming it on my code, or vice-versa. It doesn't help that the end-result of my work is graphic-oriented, which makes it interseting how a graphic on the screen can be visualized in XML Nodes. I guess, my question is this: What design patterns and disciplines exist in the coding world that address this type of concern? I've always relied on brute-force coding and restarting a project with a whole new code base in attempts to further along my goals, but I doubt that would be the best way to do so. Within my college career, the majority of my programming was to work on simple projects that came out of a book, or with a given correct data set and a verifyable result. I don't have that, as my own design documents that I am going by could be terribly wrong.

• Windows 7 Bluetooth Configuration

  I have Bluetooth installed in my laptop. The Bluetooth is enabled according to the status light. However, I do not see Bluetooth listed in device manager or have a control panel option for it. A scan for new hardware doesn't turn up Bluetooth. Nor are any devices listed with a Yellow Exclamation Point. I do have three USB Hubs Listed as "Generic USB Hub." There is no Bluetooth icon in the notification area and Bluetooth is not listed under Devices and Printers. What am I missing?
