What is the difference between using int and uint? All the examples I have seen so far are using int for integers. Any advantage of using uint? Thanks.
I tried to look this up on MSDN, but couldn't get a straight answer.
It says:
The .NET Compact Framework for Xbox
360 implements a subset of the .NET
Compact Framework, and has been
optimized to take advantage of and
expose the power of the Xbox 360.
What exactly is the subset? Which version of the framework? 3.5? 2.0?
What advantage is there to implementing the four delegate methods:
(void)controllerWillChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller
(void)controller:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller didChangeSection:(id )sectionInfo atIndex:(NSUInteger)sectionIndex forChangeType:(NSFetchedResultsChangeType)type
(void)controller:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller didChangeObject:(id)anObject atIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath forChangeType:(NSFetchedResultsChangeType)type newIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)newIndexPath
(void)controllerDidChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller
rather than implement:
(void)controllerDidChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller
Any help appreciated // :)
There is little documentation on how to use the low level api for datastore and quite a lot on JPA and JDO and how it translates to it.
My question is: is there any advantage in coding against the JPA or JDO specs instead of accessing directly the low level api for datastore ?
From an initial look, it seems simple and straight forward but I am not sure if there are good reasons why not to do it.
Thanks

what is javafx? where we can use it? whats its advantage and disadvantage over the javascript and php? i want to make project by using the javafx where can i use it in project pls describe it. thanx
For Remote Desktop Sessions in Linux, I want to know if there something available equivalent for what Team Viewer does for windows?
The main advantage I find of Team viewer is that it can bypass firewalls, needs no NAT configurations or port forwarding rules to be setup in the router.
on reflecting how to talk with prospect customers on technologies for web applications, what are important requirements for chosing a specific technology?
I am biased towards ruby on rails, but the code base and community of PHP is larger, while the user experience of flash sites is often an advantage to the segment of higher paying customers.
how would you argue for or against the usage of a technology in general? for ruby on rails in particular?
HI,
In singleton class we are declaring constructors as private. Is it possible to give as protected.
If giving as protected is it beneficial.
Whats the advantage or disadvantage of private over protected
I was just looking into the source code of an existing project which uses nHibernate and found that there are interfaces created for each entity classes. E.g ICustomer for Customer class. I was just wondering what can be the advantage of this pattern as ICustomer contains mainly the properties and very few methods.
One of the downsides of web.config/app.config is that it's just Magic Strings everywhere, since it's just an XML file.
Interpreted languages like PHP or Ruby have the advantage that the configuration is just code that is executed. In .net, doing stuff in code requires a redeployment, which defeats the purpose.
Now, before I build my own web.config replacement based on Boo or PowerShell I wanted to know if there is an existing one?
Here's an example of the type of background image I'm talking about, the iPhone Notes app...
Clearly, there's a pattern in it. My question is, if this were an iPad app and the background image was twice the size, would there be any significant benefits to taking advantage of this pattern by tiling the image? Or would it really make no difference in terms of performance and just be easier to load the entire image into a UIImageView?
Thanks in advance for all your wisdom!
I am new to the concept of Pipeline Functions. I have some questions regarding
From Database point of view:
What actually is Pipeline function ?
What is the advantage of using Pipeline Function ?
What challenges are solved using Pipeline Function ?
Are the any optimization advantages of using Pipeline Function ?
Thanks.
Is there in the world analogues of JavaBeans or JAXB for PHP?
Is it possible to generate PHP classes from XML schema?
It's common practice to publish API's as XSD schemas. Java and C# guys can get advantage of this by generating classes right from XSD. Is there same tool for PHP?
I have a small project I started in MVC 1 and have resisted (until now) moving to MVC 2. Problem is, everything seems to be just a mishmash of MVC. So...
What significant differences are there?
What do I need to know to take advantage of what's there?
Are there breaking changes?
Where's a good place to learn all of this stuff?
I currently allocate my memory for arrays using the MS specific mm_malloc. I align the memory, as I'm doing some heavy duty math and the vectorization takes advantage of the alignment. I was wondering if anyone knows how to overload the new operator to do the same thing, as I feel dirty malloc'ing everywhere (and would eventually like to also compile on Linux)? Thanks for any help
In order to fully understand and take advantage of the new features and enhancements provided with the coming of the new .NET Framework 4.0, I would like to get an example of real-world application of the Code Contracts.
Anyone has a good example of application of this feature?
I would like to get a code sample with a brief explanation to help me get up and running with it.
Thanks! =)
I mean, won;t it be more specific and appropriate if i "only" keep "protected","internal" and "private" members (field,method,property,event) in a class which is declared as "internal" ?
I have seen this practice ( having "public" members in an "internal" class) in various code so just wanted to know is it a bad practice or does it has some benefit or advantage.

Thanks for your interest.
Is there an advantage to learning Java or .NET first?
(ie. would the transition from J2EE to .NET be significantly easier than the reverse?)
Do you think that one platform has overtaken the other in terms of industry use?
(feel free to be as biased or as objective as you like)

int, char and bool usually have different sizes. Where intcharbool, I suppose.
But does the RAM even support this?
How is it built up?
Can it take advantage of bool being only 1 byte and store it in a small "register"?
So we're required to use the following order for CSS anchor pseudo-classes
a:link { color: red }
a:visited { color: blue }
a:hover { color: yellow }
a:active { color: lime }
But my question is why bother with the a:link part? Rather, is there any advantage to the above (other than perhaps clarity) over:
a { color:red; } /* notice no :link part */
a:visited { color: blue; }
etc.,etc.

From what I understand the data will be "persisted" (physically stored, not just retrieved when i need it). Is this correct?
If so what would be the advantage of using an indexed view versus just using a table?
I'm struggling to find a tag selection UI for a rails app. Ideally it would be something like the selection here on Stackoverflow, or on Delicious or Digg.
I want users to be able to select multiple tags with a single click. We're already using jQuery, so it makes sense to use something that takes advantage of that. I've used the selection ui in jQuery and I'm not thrilled about having users need to hold down ctrl to select multiple tags.
We are using Eclipselink for ORM, but we have a need for some more lightweight database interactions that are more equivalent to JDBC. My question is whether Eclipselink supports such an idiom and whether there are any advantages of it to straight JDBC. I can see one advantage being consistency and being able to use the existing connection handling. Others?
Specifically, what I'm looking for is something equivalent to Hibernate's Native SQL Query.
