It would be nice to know how this file is structured and all its possible sections, keys, and values. Does anyone know of documentation on the file format?
I bet some of you superusers have nice home server rooms.
Show us some pictures and tell us features/specs!
Air condition? Dust free? Mounted an ATX computer on the wall with zip ties? Show us!
Hello,
I'm looking for a nice way to add / remote ips (and possibly interact with an asset inventory system to track where ips are), start / stop processes, download logs, and all around genearal system admin duties from one place.
It's okay if I require more than 1 program. That would still be better than having 50 million terminals open and trying to trace ip assignments etc on whiteboards.
I'd also like to know if anyone knows any good asset management programs.
Best Regards,
William
I'm working on building a computer (first time for me). There are several plugs that I need to connect to the motherboard (Power LED, reset switch, etc). Of the two wires, they are either:
Color and white (reset switch, power LED, HDD LED)
red and black (speaker, power switch)
The manual for the motherboard has a nice diagram of where to plug them in, but has them labeled + or -. Which colors are positive, and which are negative?
I'm using Win 7's built-in VPN client but every time I put my computer to sleep / hibernate mode and then wake it up again, the connection is lost and I need to reconnect manually. Is there any way to automate it? Wireless connections have a nice little checkbox ("automatically connect when this network is in range") but I couldn't find anything similar for VPN connections. Task scheduler maybe?
Hi
I have a single monitor, but with a wide resolution. Some times it would be helpful to have two applications running next to each other. Is there a tool to quickly tell windows to resize the two applications to fit the desktop? Perhaps even with an option to make the one application use 75% and the other 25%
I know the Windows 7 Alt+left/right arrow feature, which is nice, but still needs too many clicks.
I would like to install Good OS from USB key.
I have found a nice instructions http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-gos-install-from-windows/.
Everything is OK while USB key is being prepared. But when I am trying to boot from that USB key I get the following error:
"no bootable partition in table"
It seems like USB key is not prepared properly ...
How can I install gOS from USB key?
I upgraded to iTunes 9 today and it looks good!
The Genius Mixes feature is nice but I only have 4 genius mixes even though I have 973 songs in my library. Two of my mixes are even the same genre.
Is there any way to get iTunes to add more Genius Mixes to my 'collection'?
I'm new to keynote and as such have not figured out the correct workflow yet. While the transitions (builds) and actions are nice, how are you supposed to work with several objects if the previously edited objects are still being displayed in the original state, thus obstructing the view on new elements that I would like to display later?
Is there a way to step through the builds like in presentation mode?
I want to retrieve the cpu usage/free percentage from mpstat output. The bash cut can be used to retrieve such details but i dont know what should be the delimiter viz.
[idlecool@archbitch proc]$ mpstat | grep "all" | cut -d '$x' -f11
what should be $x so that i can skip white spaces and select value corresponding to %idle?
Output of mpstat:
[idlecool@archbitch proc]$ mpstat
Linux 2.6.36-ARCH (archbitch) 01/14/11 _i686_ (2 CPU)
19:58:53 CPU %usr %nice %sys %iowait %irq %soft %steal %guest %idle
19:58:53 all 5.51 0.01 2.96 0.84 0.00 0.01 0.00 0.00 90.66
I have seen a number of diagram software packages but most don't support real time collaboration. Google docs Drawing does the real-time collaboration, but is severely limited on features--focused on drawing rather than diagrams. I want something that supports connectors and such. Mind maps would be also be nice but would be a secondary requirement.
I'm currently an running a quad core processor on windows 7 and was wondering if there is a way to turn off unneeded cpu cores while I'm running on battery to extend battery life it would be nice to do this automatically but will also accept way to it manually if there is no way to do it automatically either in windows or through management software I've searched on the internet and haven't been able to find anything to this effect on google
Is there a programmer's text editor (line numbers, syntax highlighting) for Windows 7 that offers
Edit in Place via SCP
A non-administrator instalation/runs without instalation
Free is nice, commercial with demo is acceptable.
I'm looking for a piece of software to detect drops in my internet connection and log those drops. OS doesn't really matter since I have pretty much everything running here, although something on OSX would be nice. I also don't really care how it determines that connection has been dropped, but I think that there must be something better than a ping or at least a combination of a ping and something else.
Hi everybody,
I have to design and present the ICT-infrastructure for a startup. Does anybody know a good piece of software for making a good looking layout of the ICT-infrastructure?
Until now I have been doing this by hand, but this time I need to present it in a very nice way.
What do you use?
I prefer software that will run on Ubuntu Linux, but Windows is also fine.
Thanks...
Marcel
I'm looking for Genesis Emulator(windows would be nice but *ix would be fine) that can autoload a particular (homebrew) ROM and state on startup, any ideas?
Edit:
The homebrew application is a communication tool for a disabled child, not a game.
I have a batch file that outputs a text file. I thought it would be nice if I could zip it up too.
This will be used in an uncontrolled environment so I can't make assumptions about the presence of 3rd party software products such as 7-Zip etc. This needs to use Window's now-built-in capability to zip files.
Does anyone know of a program/script that runs on Linux that can give us a nice GUI for browsing and managing shared system folders similar in the way that windows explorer would work?
So would allow, upload, download, file modification etc. It's a way to still have access to all our files stored on the system from any location with internet access.
Thanks in advance
I have created a couple of line charts in Excel 2011 for Mac. The actual data line looks good and is antialiased in a nice way but when I then add a trendline it is jagged and ugly:
I have tried "all" options available under Format Trendline, to no avail. There is an option "Soft Edges" but it doesn't seem to work as expected: when I increase the value there the trend line gets more and more narrow until it disappears.
I've been using Bitvise Tunnelier for a good few years to get secure access to my home server. This week I've switched to OS X and can't seem to find a nice GUI-based app to allow me to connect SSH/SFTP/Remote Desktop thru an SSH tunnel. Can anyone please advise? I'm not overly keen on the command line...
Thanks for reading :-D
I've used SimpleOCR, which has a nice GUI for correcting errors. Unfortunately it makes a lot of errors! (and suffers other bugs and limitations)
Is there a free OCR program for Windows which has such a GUI and a low error rate? I want it to show the original (bitmap) word while I'm editing the OCRed word similar to what SimpleOCR does:
Free is good. Open-source is better.
I have a Samba share set up that I'd like to put a git repository on. I've tried searching google for the best way to use git on a Samba share, but it seems difficult to find anything on doing this as Samba uses git for development.
What is the best way to do this? Right now, I'm just working with Linux, but it would be nice to know how to do this in a cross-platform manner as well.
Hello.
I have a text file which was with nice linebreaks. By mistake my customer opened it in wordpad an saved it. All line breaks are now gone.
Is there a way to restore the line breaks again?
I'm looking for a good, free ticket management software that could be accessible from everywhere. The company is small (10 people) and the first goal is to have a database and to follow important incidents, even if someone is out of office. I tried OTRS, very nice but I suppose a bit complicated for some of our developers.
Thanks for your suggestions.
EDIT: I forgot to write that the platform is Windows for all users.
So something I do very frequently is writing random scripts in JS without really being part of an app. To run them I just paste them in the console of either Chrome of FF which works as a nice REPL, or if I really need more fancy debugging I just add it to my test app on localhost and browse it from the browser. Is there a way to get all the good debugging of a browser (breakpoints, locals, etc), without it being served from a server?, e.g by just copy-pasting my code into console or something?
