• Is there a way to continue a partially finished MinGW build?

  I am just trying to become familiar with MinGW (and with more complex command-line compiler tools) I have a really giant project to build, I successfully managed to generate the makefile with CMake, and started mingw. After more than an hour of hard work, and building dozens of libraries successfully, the build ended in an error. It seems I added an option in CMake which is not supported in my system. My problem is, I cannot figure out a way to just skip that library and continue with the build process. If I remove the option in CMake and start mingw again, it starts from the beginning and rebuilds everything, even those libraries which are already built.

• Windows Embedded Compact 7 in Padua

  Yesterday I did a presentation about Windows CE at the University of Padua Even if the picture seems to suggest that I just showed and empty slide, I illustrated the new features of the OS and did a quick demo of Silverlight for Windows Embedded on Windows Embedded Compact 7 (I’ve to get used to this new name), showing the new tools that provide a better integration between Expression Blend and Visual Studio for the development of Silverlight applications (I hope to be able to write more on this topic soon!). The Operating System was running on some real hardware (TI OMAP3530 evaluation board) and many people had a chance to interact with the new customizable shell. Most of the 60 people attending were still awake at the end of the one hour and a half session, and some of them even asked questions! I would like to thank all the people attending and all the people of Arrow, Fortech Embedded Labs and the University of Padua that made this event possible and provide me the tool and the time to do this presentation. • Time display and Cursor bug in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  Just installed Ubuntu 14.04. Noticed the time in seconds speeds up then slows down to normal speed. The cursor for the keyboard has a strange rhythm; it stays normal, then slowly speeds up faster and faster till it looks like it's not blinking anymore, then goes back to normal and starts the process again. It almost seems like my whole operating system speeds up then slows down again. Even the hour circle that spins when it's loading starts slowly then it picks up speed till it spins so fast it looks like it's not even spinning. It interferes with video and the whole system. I have a Dell Vostro 3750 dual video cards and dual boot with Windows 7. Windows is running fine.

  SharePoint 2010 Training: more information Greetings! I will be speaking at NNUG Kristiansand tonight (sorry for the very short notice). So I was thinking what should I demo tonight?Hmm!!!Instead of using any slides or such material, what I thought would be a tonne of fun, would be to develop a service bus based application running in Azure. This will be a good opportunity to code and talk, and run into some snafus and show off some VS2012 improvements/annoyances. • Very slow startup after update to 12.04

  My hardware: Dell Latitude D600 laptop Processor: Intel Pentium (r) 1.8 GHz Memory 1.2 GiB Graphics R200 (RV250 4C66) x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL DRI2 Disk: 37.7 gb I did an update from 11.?? using the automatic system update that pops up when you switch/log on. Ever since then when I switch on the machine it takes approximately one hour to get to the login screen. Sometimes the actual login will take time too, but sometimes within a couple of minutes I am logged in. Once I am logged in I find I can work normally, the response is not swift, but is neither too slow that I cannot work. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to speed things up. I deliberately did not do a clean install from disk, because I did not want to loose settings on the machine.

  I am new to linux and was wondering why launching applications is so slow. I've tried both Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit Computer Specs: Toshiba Satellite p755 CPU: Intel core i7-2670QM @2.20GHz Ram: 8 GB Using integrated intel hd 3000 graphics When I install the first thing I do is update, which takes about an hour or so. I would assume I'd be good after that, but when launching things like the firefox, system settings, thunderbird it takes a much much longer time than on Windows 7. Please help me.

• Ubuntu 10.10 screen goes nuts and unreadable

  Running Ubuntu 10.10 in its own partition, also have Oracle Virtualbox 4 with Windows XP. Because i previously had a problem with a dark screen when i let the laptop on and i didn't use it for a long while i had set Power settings to Never sleep, never let the Display sleep. Monitor on install set to Laptop resolution 1400 by 1050, refresh rate 60 Hz, rotation Normal. The problem was when the computer was left on and i returned after about an hour, the screen was unreadable, similar to what used to happen to graphics cards before multisync became normal. So it appears as though the graphics card was asked to use a resolution it couldn't handle and went nuts. I had to power off the system, on restart everything was fine. Thanks for any suggestions. • How to calculate production when player is offline

  What is the best way to do for example food growth based on how many food buildings you have? Lets say I have a webbased game where you can build a farm wich generates 60 food units per hour. A player has 1 farm in his possession. What is the best way to keep on producing these units even when the player is offline? Should I do the math when the player get's back online again? If so..how can I do this without having to save his last online time every 5 seconds so I can do some maths with it when he logs back in (datetime.now - lastonlinetime)? Next thing is when the player is online, should I refresh his resource count every 5 seconds or so by going to the database and back? This would seem weird to do for every logged on player. I hope you understand my question. kind regards

• How do I use Brasero to burn a movie in DVD format?

  I have to present an assessment for my Uni course in the form of a DVD movie (so it can be played on a DVD player) but so far, Brasero doesn't seem to be doing it. For example, I left it for over an hour today (as it said it was burning) and the DVD came out empty. Other times, it flat out says it cannot burn the DVD. I am running Ubuntu 10.10, I have ubuntu restricted extras installed and the Medibuntu packages that allow me to watch DVDs. Any ideas?

• Ubuntu 12.04 cannot start

  I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 64bit, and I cannot start it. I tried twice. The first time, I used a CD I burned. (The CD works for my another computer, so it is OK.) After wubi did something in Windows, it rebooted. Then the screen was stuck where there is an ubuntu logo at the center and 5 dots below. I waited for more than half hour, it was still there and nothing happened. The second time, I installed 11.10, then upgrade to 12.04 in a the newly install 11.10. BTW, the 11.10 did start. After upgrading, I rebooted the computer, it was stuck at the same place. Any one can help me on this? The computer is AMD Phenom II X4 965 + ATI RADEON HD4870. Thanks a lot!

• Get exact time of each click - AdWords

  I have an AdWords campaign running and want to get a list with all clicks and the exact time the click occured. And I want to do this without having a tracking code on my homepage. So it needs to be via the API (AdWords/Analytics). You might think know that this is not possible. But big Bid Management tools (e.g. Kenshoo) know all details of every click and they don't have tracking code of my website (only on the success page of my contact form). How is that possible? The dimensions in AdWords only let me group the clicks at the hour level.

  Am trying to install ubuntu 12.04 on a pentium 4 with a hard disk that's been totally wiped clean. Have made an iso image, burned it on a cd and it has been verified. Checked to see if separate files have been burned on cd and they have. When I boot to the disk I get the word unbuntu with some progress dots, 5 min later it goes to a red screen with the mouse arrow on screen. It has stayed in this condition for over half an hour now. Help? erich

• usb stop working

  I'm using Xubuntu 12.04 on a 64 bit Intel core duo laptop and the 3 USB 3.0 ports stopped working if I do not use the mouse. I updated the kernel to 3.9 but the bug persists. I googled too much and the few reponses I got cannot fixed this. The only solution is shuting down, unplugging and then plugging them back, then all works fine. But after half an hour or two days the bug reappears. How can I solve this? Thanks and excuse my poor english.

She seems to work 80 hour weeks whether there is an emergency or not and it is somewhat difficult to predict which part of your todo list she is going to strike next.   I am working in small development firm, our main products are ASP.NET and SQL server based. We are deploying a new version of our product and client wants 4-hour response time technical support. Some of this support time will fall outside regular business hours and our boss asked us how much should we charge for being available outside regular business hours? Is it 50% of our hourly fee, 20% ? Any suggestion is appreciated, he is pushing us to speak up and I don't have any idea. I don't want to underprice my free time. Thanks.

• Cancelling WPF Application.Shutdown

  Today I spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out what I had had done wrong. I had an application that when the user click’s “exit”, it should prompt if they want to save the last unsaved file, or cancel the exit. If the select cancel it should not exit the application. Everything seemed fine in my code, all I was doing was calling Application.Current.Shutdown(); And then capturing the Closing event and setting cancel to true.. (see SO question here) Long story short, If should not have been calling Application.Current.Shutdown() but rather Application.Current.MainWindow.Close(). grrrr… <I must read documentation properly>

• Are there any resources for motion-planning puzzle design?

  Some background: I'm poking at a set of puzzles along the lines of Rush Hour/Sokoban/etc; for want of a better description, call them 'motion planning' puzzles - the player has to figure out the correct sequence of moves to achieve a particular configuration. (It's the sort of puzzle that's generically PSPACE-complete if that actually helps anyone's mental image). While I have a few straightforward 'building blocks' that I can use for puzzle crafting and I have a few basic examples put together, I'm trying to figure out how to avoid too much sameness over a large swath of these kinds of puzzles, and I'm also trying to figure out how to make puzzles that have more of a feel of logical solution than trial-and-error. Does anyone know of good resources out there for designing instances of this sort of puzzle once the core puzzle rules are in place? Most of what I've found on puzzle design only covers creating the puzzle rules, not building interesting puzzles out of a set of rules.

My php script prepare contents of each category, according to user preference my script merge those contents for each user. so every user can get what category they want. Problem is I want to send 340+ mails per hour and dreamhost dont allow. What do you suggest? I think to a service like mailchimp but I couldnt find that scenario, do they support category & content etc. Can I use smtp in dreamhost?

• lightdm.conf content erased, now stuck in low graphics mode

  This evening I was attempting to disable the guest account and something went awry. Currently on boot Ubuntu enters low graphics mode. No specific error report. What did I do? Before this error occurred I added a line of code in lightdm.conf to disable the guest account. I think I may have accidentally erased the contents of lightdm.conf. Not entirely sure. I troubleshooted for the past hour using various suggestions from other Questions to no avail.

• Why am I missing the Ubuntu icon on the log-in screen?

  I am running Ubuntu 12.10. On the log-in screen, there is no Ubuntu icon for me to click on to change desktop environments. I know where it should be, but it is simply not there. Why is this? And how can I get it back??? I just installed Cinnamon and I would very much like to switch to this environment. I apologize if this is has been addressed elsewhere, but I honestly did try to research before asking. I found several similar questions, but nothing that has answers that helped my situation. • Does Dropbox use a cronjob to sync up?

  I was looking into lipsync on a Dropbox clone. I was looking at the diagram on how it works here. It shows that a cronjob is used to keep files in sync between client and server. Does that mean that every sec/min/hour, a cronjob runs and checks to see if there is a difference between client and server? Is that how Dropbox does it? If it does use a cronjob, what happens when you are in the middle of syncing and another cronjob runs? Does rsync (or additional libs) know how to handle this?

• How much time do you need in between large projects?

  You've launched a large project at work, something that's been in progress and taken up large chunks of your life for more than 6 months. The post-launch triage is over. Tech support isn't calling you every hour because they don't know how to troubleshoot an issue. Your hours drop from 60+/wk to whatever is normal in your organization (which is hopefully less than 60+!). How much time do you (or your team) need before the next large project begins? I was asked this question at work and I think the ideal minimum is two weeks -- one week to clear your desk and inbox + one week to clear your head and remember what it's like to have a life outside of work. I'd frankly acknowledge that just being asked this question is a huge boon to work/life balance. But I do think it's possible to go too long in between.
