  • USB connection issue

    Currently Im facing an issue when Im trying to connect any usb flash drive to my pc. ok, below is what happens to me: 1) I can connect usb keyboard and mouse without any issue. 2) however when i connect usb flash drive, there are 2 situations that are occuring randomly a) there is no usb drive mount in my computer, when device manager is checked, it shows error code 10, but is shown in disk management. b) my computer will have usb drive mounted, but when I click on it, it is empty. on right click the properties, the disk space show 0. (there are files within the usb) what i have done is: 1) run CCleaner to repair the registry, restart and try, but still not working. 2) uninstall the drive in device manager, restart and try, but still not working. 3) tried the port that connects mouse and keyboard, but does not work. anyone who experienced these problems before please guide me. any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.     I've just started using selinux in the last 6 months and am getting to grips with it. However, using sealert on a new CENTOS 6 server, Im not getting the level of detail I was with CENTOS 5. To illustrate: Running sealert -a /var/log/audit/audit.log On CENTOS 5 I get: Summary: SELinux is preventing postdrop (postfix_postdrop_t) "getattr" to /var/log/httpd/error_log (httpd_log_t).   • Host forwarding fails, server is up, domain name tests ambiguous

    I have a domain name registered with http://www.registryrocket.com/ The "main" site, which is called rudolfcode.net, is registered under godaddy, and forwards to a heroku site (rudolfcode.herokuapp.com). I have found that the main site, rudolfcode.net works, but the hostgator forwarding has stopped working (firefox simply fails when you point to http://www.rudolflabs.com, which is the domain name registered by hostgator). How can I debug this issue ? Finally, I have tried to run some DNS tests, and here are the results : Im not sure what the failures mean .... But Im pretty sure that "Conecting to WWW Home Page" failed is a pretty bad sign ! Thanks.

    I need to learn how to configure Cisco ASA/PIX boxes within my network. I have the task to impliment a new ASA 5505 into a new site we purchased. I have over 9 devices linking my sites together and with no support from the previous IT company im finding it hard to get to terms with what they can do and what they are currently doing. I know there are hundreds of guides how to configure them but into an existing environment? can anyone recommend courses within the UK that can help me? Im not much of a book reader, i would need to be able to manage my network after. also, should i seek external contracts to support these devices? as they are critical for our work. thanks

  • What could be wrong with my CD drive and how do you fix it?

    My CD drive hasn't worked in about 8 months. I was burning CDs in a hurry and pulled it out because it was taking too long (probably an average amount of time). Im running a laptop (Toshiba Satellite A505-6965) that uses a slot drive. Now my computer doesn't accept CDs. It used to pull them in but it doesn't anymore. Ive heard it make odd noises a few times but thats it. The slot is these spongey things and Ive managed to peek into the drive with a flashlight and theres nothing in the way, really. Could someone explain the mechanics of what happened and if it would be possible to fix it? If itd be possible to fix it through Linux that would be great since I keep getting the BSOD (0x0000007B) and am going to try reinstalling Windows 7. But I can't really do that since I don't have a USB drive larger than 2 GB (Windows is about 4 GB) so Im relying on Linux ATM.

    Hi i was trying to schedule one application in Windows 2008 server. and i can see that the schedeule is showing running in the task Scheduler, but nothing is happening(i mean the program that i scheduled is not working) and the schedule is not stopping also(i specificaly choose if the schedule runing more than 3 hours stop it automatically) i went through several links and im sure im scheduling it in proper way. is anybody facing this problem on Windows 2008? any resolution.   • Wireless controllers vs wireless usb hub

    For my htpc i currently only have a steerin wheel as a controller. This is wired and it looks really bad having extended usb wires from the tv to the table. However im thinking of bying some new Gamepads and now comes the question. Should i buy wireless ones or wired and connect them to a wireless usb hub? Having a wireless hub would let me manage my gamepads easily from the couch. A wireless hub also allows me to connect other things that are not input devices from the couch. However im wondering if wireless usb hubs may not be made for input devices in the way that they may not have 100% uptime and probably some delay. Am i right about this?

  • Script to Add an IMAP account to Outlook 2010

    Im looking to for a script that allows me to add an IMAP account to an already existing email profile. All of our users have an Exchange account as their main email account. We have several shared IMAP accounts that these users need access to. Rather than go to each machine and add each account they need access to over and over, Im hoping there is a script of some nature where I can plug in the needed info (username, password, server, security settings, etc) I then plan to run said script remotely on each machine using powershell. I have found a couple scripts in my searches, but nothing recent, and the majority of them revolve around creating profiles, not adding accounts to an already existing profile. Thoughts?

  • mac & windows backup solutions - Offsite Backups

    Im looking for some advice on a system Im looking to impliment within our company, but so far I have not found an adequate solution too. I need to provide my users with a way to backup there laptops whilst in the office and if possible offsite as well, we have a mixture of Windows & Mac laptops so software should ideally be multi platform. This is the first time i am attempting to-do something like this as we normally charge the users with responsibility for their backups. I have ruled out most of the services like dropbox, sugarsync (unless one exists that does this) as whilst they does exactly what I want it does not give me any control over restoring / recovering data in the event of the user being unavailable, as it requires their account password to access data.

So for now Im back on my macbook with os x, but now considering going back to Linux. Im looking for a window manager that has the following properties: 1) Supports virtual desktop (need 4 minimum) 2) Works well with multi monitors - can move an app with shortcut from one monitor to the other (on same virtual desktop) 3) Can remember window position (i.e. open vim on 2 monitor) - however must coerce everything back to first window when 2nd screen is unplugged 4) Keyboard shortcut friendly 5) Not too hard to install 6) Works well with minimum hardware such as integrated graphics Please suggest and share your experiences

  • Web Development - How to access custom host, defined in my hosts file, from another device in the same network

    Ok, I hope i'll be able to explain the issue im experiencing. I'm working on a project, that has 2 parts: one takes all requests from usual localhost, the other handles requests from myhost.local. While trying to access both addresses from my computer, it works ok. But now i need to test myhost.local on mobile devices, connected to the same network. Usually i would just run server from my computer ip in the network: python manage.py runserver 10.0.0.8:8000 And then from any device, going to 10.0.0.8:8000 would show the project im working on. However, now accessing that ip address routes me straight to localhost. So, my question is how to access myhost.local from another device in same network? I don't want to change router settings, if that can be avoided, cos sometimes i work from places where i can't access router admin. Is there any network settings on my computer, that i can change to fix the routing to myhost.local w.o losing access to localhost as well?

    Hi, our emails are being flagged as junk. I have two different webistes both with their own dedicted ip address. sitea.com = xx.xx.xx.43 siteb.com = xx.xx.xx.44 Im using hmailserver to host our emails and have the smtp bound to the ip address of xx.xx.xx.42 im aware that i can set up a spf record to state that the what servers emails can be sent from v=spf1 mx ip4:xx.xx.xx.43 mx:mail.sitea.com ip4:xx.xx.xx.42 -all Would the fact that email are not sent from the sites ip's be causing them to be flagged as junk.     I occasionally need to extract a single record from a mysqlbackup To do this, I first extract the single table I want from the backup... sed -n -e '/CREATE TABLE.*usertext/,/CREATE TABLE/p' 20120930_backup.sql > table.sql In table.sql, the records are batched using extended inserts (with maybe 100 records per insert before it creates a new line starting with INSERT INTO), so they look like... INSERT INTO usertext VALUES (1, field2 etc), (2, field2 etc), INSERT INTO usertext VALUES (101, field2 etc), (102, field2 etc), ... Im trying to extract record 239560 from this, using... sed -n -e '/(239560.*/,/)/p' table.sql > record.sql Ie.. start streaming when it finds 239560, and stop when it hits the closing bracket But this isnt working as I hoped, it just results in the full insert batch being output. Please can someone give me some pointers as to where Im going wrong? Would I be better off using awk for extracting segments of lines, and use sed for extracting lines within a file?

  • Windows PC's Intermittant Network faults.

    Hello everyone, im running into some issues with our client PC's (windows xp sp3 systems). this morning we ran into some problems with PC's not connecting to internal / external systems intermittantly. this would manifest as a problem connecting to any service, email, web, backoffice database systems etc. given a random amount of time be it a few minutes etc the problem would disapear and the pc would carry on as normal, some systems however have not been able to connect to certain sytems since the problem initally happened. im hoping for some suggestions / network diag advice really to help me locate the cause of this problem. all the clients are windows xp, connecting to a domain controller that is windows 2003 std this server also acts as a DNS server for us. we also have websense 7.0.1 installed on it to filter traffic.

    Hi everyone Im looking for an app pr line of code that could let me observe a process, save the info in a number of variable and then put the gathered info on a file. Ive been trying with variations of top but no luck. I am running several CentOS virtual servers, VM is 2gb ram 2 processor. Maybe a script that works over a specified amount of time while writing lines with the info on a text file so at the end i can have a sort of table with the data. The thing is Im going to stress test the server and I would like to have the data to make some statistics. Any comments and suggestions are most welcome.

  • Virtualbox, slow upload speed using nat

    Im running Virtualbox on a Ubuntu 12.04 server (host) and I'm running a Windows 7 as guest os. Im using the (virtual) Intel PRO/1000 MT network card. I get good network performance for download using both nat and bridged network settings but upload speed is really slow using nat. I have tied this on tow different servers, one brand new, and one a several years old, both gave the same result. If you can explain this behavior or have ideas of further test I can perform please let me know.

    I busted my keyboard on my laptop, and now my computer rarely starts since it doesnt ignore this problem when booting. So what i want to do, is to disable my keyboard from the boot menu. But I cant access the boot menu since my keyboard doesnt work. I have an addtional keybaord via USB but that one doesnt work before windows is booted.     I have an ASUS Pentium-R Dual Core CPU running at 2.20Ghz. It has 4 gb of built in ram, currently running a 64 bit Windows 7 . I just started graduate school and Im wondering whether I should go in for a new laptop or just repair the nagging battery on my current one. My requirements include - -Ability to support IDE's - I may end up running Eclipse, Visual Studio's and the like to help with my work. - Ability to run multiple VM's (not concurrently). Im currently running a Ubuntu 12 and 9 as VM's (not sure if this is overloading the system) - I'm a non gamer so I really dont care about a minor glitch caused by running a uber heavy game. -In addition I will have heavy use of Office Application Software and will be using my computer to watch movies and stream media.     Hello all Im beginner to VMWare player , im using CentOS 5.5 as the virtual OS and installed the VMWare Player in windows xp 32 bit And its working great , but when I like to start the GNUME gui to use x server its starting the GUI desktop right inside the VMWare server I like it just to start , and I will connect form out side ( for example with xming x server ) how can I do that ? Second question is how can I make the VMWare server with the GUI display to be full screen on my desktop ? Now when I resize the window its getting full screen but the Linux main window remain centered and small . and I like it to stretch full screen

    I am attempting to set a character set of IBM850 on slackware linux for a particular application (epic5). Im using rxvt-unicode and have setup LANG/LC_*=en_US. Now if I set the encoding to IBM850 in kde's konsole program im able to display certain characters correctly. I'd rather not use IBM850 for everything; is there a way to set/alias a command for a per application execution? Ive tried things like: LC_CTYPE=IBM850 epic5 LC_ALL=IBM850 epic5 No success. Any help would be appreciated
